I Ran Away After Transmigrating as a Wealthy Daughter-in-Law - Chapter 17
It was that time of the month again, and Jian Yue took her extra-strength inhibitors and went to sleep.
When she woke up, she got into the large bathtub. Several yellow plastic rubber ducks were floating on the surface of the water. She reached out and picked one up, squeezing it listlessly.
She suddenly remembered that Jiang Pan had gone to see Li Ji to talk business. Her hand stopped, and a few seconds later, she quickly got up and stood under the shower, rinsing herself off. She didn’t care if the white foam was completely gone, she grabbed her bathrobe, wrapped it around herself, and hurried out of the bathroom.
“Brother Li Ji, what business did Jiang Pan want to talk to you about?” Jian Yue asked directly after dialing Li Ji’s number.
Li Ji put down the folder he was holding. “I don’t know what business. I didn’t even talk to her.”
Jian Yue was relieved. Based on her understanding of Jiang Pan, she felt that on the surface, Jiang Pan was looking for Li Ji to talk business, but in reality, she had other motives. After all, Jiang Pan had left with nothing but her ID card. Of course, Jian Yue couldn’t be sure that Jiang Pan didn’t have other bank accounts or put some money away in her hometown. After all, in all the years she was with the Jian family, it was impossible for her not to have saved some money for herself.
Thinking of this possibility, a hint of anger rose in Jian Yue’s heart. She felt that she had never treated Jiang Pan unfairly in all the years they were together, and yet she ended up being a foolish chump.
“Then why would she think of talking business with you?” Jian Yue realized that perhaps she should start being wary of Jiang Pan.
She also remembered what her father had said. That person, Jiang Pan, was ambitious, but her heart was not in the right place. Letting her go was like setting a tiger free.
When she heard those words, Jian Yue thought her father was being dramatic. Now it seemed that after a brief disappearance, Jiang Pan had reappeared in front of her as a businessperson. Perhaps her father was right after all…
Jian Yue slowly frowned.
“It was that brat, Qi Qi. She invested in some project with her and came to me, yelling about me joining in. It’s like they’re just playing house.”
Hearing this, Jian Yue asked, “What project did they invest in?”
Li Ji said, “Since I have no intention of doing business with her, I’m naturally not interested in the project.” He paused. “What, are you interested? I can help you ask Qi Qi.”
“I’m not interested at all. Besides, I wouldn’t do business with that kind of person, no matter who it is.”
Li Ji chuckled. “What can I say about you? You’re not suited for business. Haven’t you heard the saying that in business, there are no permanent enemies and no permanent friends? When money is involved, even an enemy can sit down and talk business. You have to separate your personal life from your professional life.”
Jian Yue scoffed disdainfully. “I’m asking because I know that person. I’m worried she has another motive for coming to see you. Since you’re not planning to do business with her, then I feel relieved.”
Li Ji’s smile didn’t fade. He told Jian Yue that her worry was unnecessary. “You’re overthinking it. No matter how shameless she is, she wouldn’t do anything illegal, would she? Besides, I have no grudges against her. If she dares to play any tricks on me, she’s just asking for trouble.”
Li Ji certainly had the right to say something like that. He then comforted Jian Yue, saying that a person with Jiang Pan’s family background only had the capital and connections that the Jian family gave her. Now that she had left the Jian family, she was nothing.
“Yueyue, if she dares to have any more ideas about you, tell me. I’ll teach her a lesson for you.”
Jian Yue was silent. After five or six seconds, she said, “No, she wouldn’t dare.”
After hanging up, Jian Yue sat on the sofa in a daze for a while. She never liked bothering other people with her personal matters.
Furthermore, she was only guessing about Jiang Pan’s various actions in C City. Some things should not be judged too early.
But one thing was certain: she could never be soft on that person again, no matter what or where.
Jiang Pan’s words made Li Qi give her a review. “My parents and my brother always say I’m an idiot. Now I’ve finally found someone who’s a bigger idiot than me.”
Jiang Pan: “…”
After a brief moment of speechlessness, Jiang Pan took a sip of her porridge and asked slowly, “Your business-minded brother told you not to deal with me, so why didn’t you withdraw your investment?”
Jiang Pan was actually a little curious about Li Qi’s reason for not withdrawing.
This idiot wouldn’t happen to have some extraordinary business sense, would she?
After all, everyone in the Li family is a business genius.
Li Qi said with a straight face, “In my family, the three of them are ridiculously good at business, especially my brother. I’m compared to and criticized every day. I’m telling you, I have my parents’ genes, and their blood runs through my veins. I don’t believe I didn’t inherit their business sense and tactics. I’m going to do a huge deal to show them that I, Li Qi, am a business genius.”
Jiang Pan: “…”
Hmm, that’s a valid reason.
Li Qi slammed her hand on the table. “So, I’ll listen to what my brother says, but I’ll do what I want. Our investment is still on.”
Jiang Pan nodded slightly. “Thank you for not withdrawing your investment, Ms. Li.”
Li Qi grinned. “But one thing. I’ll listen to my brother and only do business that’s foolproof. So,” she said, standing up, “if we lose money, I’m dead, and you’re even more dead.”
She said that and walked away in her high heels. Jiang Pan watched her leave and then looked out the window of the breakfast shop, lost in thought.
After breakfast, Jiang Pan didn’t go back to the hotel. Instead, she went to the mall to buy some clothes for herself and her new parents.
Speaking of clothes, Jiang Pan remembered the IOU she wrote when she left the Jian family. If she were to be completely honest, the only thing she owed Jian Yue was the clothes and shoes she took with her.
But the reality was, in the eyes of Jian Yue and everyone else, she owed Jian Yue too much.
That damned scumbag original owner really set her up for a fall.
As for why Jian Yue chose not to pursue legal action, Jiang Pan had a thought she didn’t want to admit: that Jian Yue still had a shred of affection for the original owner, even though she spoke with such venom. After all, they had been in love for more than six years.
There was nothing wrong with that. The protagonist always had some extraordinary qualities.
For example, a kind heart, a pure soul, being a love-crazed idiot, being stupid, and so on.
Of course, Jiang Pan had to thank Jian Yue for this bit of affection she had for the original owner. Otherwise, her fate today would have been tragic.
Jiang Pan didn’t like shopping. Especially after she became a researcher, she had pretty much removed shopping from her life. She usually bought clothes and shoes online. Most importantly, as a single person for a thousand years, she had no reason to go shopping.
Therefore, after walking around the mall twice, she was already ready to leave without finding any clothes that caught her eye.
But since she didn’t bring any clean clothes with her, she had to buy two outfits.
Jiang Pan randomly walked into a women’s clothing store, quickly picked out two outfits, paid, and left.
As she was about to leave the mall, Jiang Pan felt like she had forgotten to buy something, but she couldn’t remember what it was, no matter how hard she tried.
But her biggest worry right now was whether Li Qi would tell Li Ji what she said today. After all, she had created a smokescreen with the purpose of using Li Qi’s mouth to get the message to Li Ji.
In order to lure Li Ji in, she, as a transmigrator, didn’t hesitate to reveal plot details, telling her about the economic development zone and the large amusement park that would be built in her hometown three years from now.
Li Qi’s brain was basically in a frozen state. Her biggest strength was that her mouth had no off switch. Jiang Pan was betting that she would go and brag to Li Ji.
However, she was starting to worry. What if that idiot, Li Qi, attributed everything to the phrase, “I’m a transmigrator”?
Jiang Pan: “…”
Uh, that’s a possibility.
Li Qi left Jiang Pan and went straight to her brother’s company.
She sat on the office sofa, crossed her legs, and said triumphantly that the investment was foolproof.
Li Ji’s voice was a little mocking. “Is that so? My sister knows how to do business now. That’s good.”
Li Qi didn’t care about his attitude. Instead, she said, “I know you’re jealous.”
Li Ji couldn’t help but look at his silly sister. “I’m jealous?”
Li Qi smiled slightly. “You’re also envious.”
Li Ji was amused and nodded. “Okay, okay, I’m jealous and envious. Wait until you make a lot of money and then come back to make me even more jealous and envious. Your brother will be waiting.”
Li Qi was confident. “Jiang Pan said that the government will develop her hometown in two years and build an economic zone and a large amusement park, and a subway, or whatever. Anyway, the money I invested will definitely come back tenfold, or even a hundredfold. Brother, just you wait.”
After hearing this, Li Ji finally showed some interest, but he was still skeptical. “How does she know the government will develop it?”
Li Qi took a sip of her coffee. “She said she’s a transmigrator and knows everything that’s going to happen in the future.”
Li Ji: “…”
What the heck.
Jiang Pan turned around and went back to the computer store on the second floor of the mall. She wanted to buy a laptop to take back to her hometown for work.
It was still early, so she went back to the clothing store. With patience, she bought clothes and shoes for her two elders and didn’t forget to buy each of them a phone.
Jiang Pan felt like she was being a little too kind, but she somehow enjoyed the feeling of buying gifts for her “family.”
She suddenly wondered, Is this the same kind of enjoyment you get when buying a gift for your ‘lover’?
Thinking of a lover, Jian Yue’s face inexplicably appeared in her mind.
Jiang Pan was a little confused. She shook her head in a struggle. “I can’t afford to mess with her…”
She got back to the hotel close to evening. Jiang Pan didn’t even stop for dinner. She opened her laptop and started working.
She wanted to write down all the research projects from her past life before she completely forgot them.
This was her life’s work. She couldn’t bear to leave it behind in her previous life.
And she could also use it here.
Unknowingly, it was late at night. Jiang Pan finally felt tired. She stretched and looked at the time. It was 1:30 a.m. She was about to take a shower and go to bed when she touched her neck. She suddenly remembered that her bi-monthly heat was coming soon.
And since she left in a hurry, she didn’t have any inhibitors with her.
She had planned to buy some today, but she forgot.
That was the one thing she couldn’t remember. There was nothing she could do. She still hadn’t completely adjusted to being an Alpha.
Jiang Pan put her clothes back on and prepared to go to the pharmacy to buy some.
Most pharmacies were closed at this hour, and the ones that were open were out of inhibitors.
The kind staff member reminded her that she could buy them at the hospital.
Jiang Pan said thank you, left the pharmacy, and looked at the time. The hospital’s outpatient pharmacy would also be closed at this hour.
If she went, she would have to go to the emergency room.
At 2 a.m., Jiang Pan thought it wouldn’t be too late to buy some in the morning.
But things didn’t go as planned. The heat was like a menstrual period. Even though it had a fixed cycle, it could come at any time, either early or late.
As soon as she got back to the hotel, she didn’t even have time to close the door. Jiang Pan felt her body get hot. She tugged at her collar, sweat was on her forehead, and her breathing became rapid. She sighed deeply.
This is on purpose. It’s definitely on purpose.
Jiang Pan, still conscious, quickly contacted the front desk. Hotels usually had inhibitors ready, but it was a dramatic coincidence that the hotel was out of them today.
Ten minutes later, Jiang Pan lay weakly in an ambulance, covering her eyes with one hand. She said to herself, “Actually, there’s no need to call 911.”
Then, she closed her eyes and lost consciousness.
At 7 a.m., Jian Yue was still asleep when Yin Li’s call came.
“Beautiful, you need to get your check-up. You’re already a week late. Are you that busy?”
Jian Yue blinked and unconsciously touched her abdomen. “She’s very well-behaved. She’s fine.”
Yin Li scoffed. “I don’t know if she’s well-behaved. I’m only responsible for whether she’s healthy or not. I’m at the clinic all day today. Don’t procrastinate. Come here now.”
