I Ran Away After Transmigrating as a Wealthy Daughter-in-Law - Chapter 20
Jian Yue drove away from the hospital as fast as she could. Staying there for one more second would have been disrespectful to that “ribbit.”
Finally, able to relax her body, Jiang Pan laboriously straightened herself and sat on the car seat, massaging her numb leg.
She noticed that Jian Yue didn’t seem satisfied with her performance. Jiang Pan frowned in thought.
Whatever, I don’t care if she’s satisfied or not. If it weren’t for getting rid of that paparazzi, you could have killed me, and I still wouldn’t have barked like a dog.
A strange silence fell over the car. The two of them were in a mutual state of no words.
Jiang Pan didn’t know where the car was headed, but she sat quietly, thinking to herself with a carefree attitude, I’ll just get out wherever she stops.
Finally, the car stopped.
Jian Yue ordered Jiang Pan to get out in a cold voice.
Jiang Pan didn’t say anything. She just opened the door, got out, and closed the door.
Jian Yue spoke coldly, “What I said at the hospital, I hope that’s the last time I have to say it, and I hope this is the last time I run into you.” She then turned her head and glared at Jiang Pan. “Otherwise, I’ll really have to send you to the police.”
Jiang Pan looked at her expressionlessly. What was this Jian Yue doing before? When the original owner was around, she should have made the original owner know what her boundaries were.
At this moment, her fierceness and warnings made Jiang Pan, an innocent party, feel an inexpressible sense of frustration.
She felt like she had nothing to say to the person in front of her, but after thinking about it, Jiang Pan walked to Jian Yue’s car window, bent down, and with a look of two parts helplessness, seven parts frustration, and one part amusement, she said, “Miss Jian, what a coincidence. I also hope this is the last time I run into you.”
Jiang Pan’s words made Jian Yue freeze for a moment. Then she let out a cold laugh, stepped on the gas, and left a cloud of dust in Jiang Pan’s face.
Jian Yue left Jiang Pan on a muddy path in the suburbs. If she walked past a patch of overgrown wasteland, she would reach a wide, open road.
It was almost evening. The sunset in the distance was incredibly beautiful. Jiang Pan looked at the wasteland and became interested. “If I buy this, I can build a small villa here in the future. I can plant a few acres, build a small garden, and a small laboratory next to it. I can also get two dogs and a cat…”
She muttered to herself, becoming more and more like a lunatic the more she fantasized. She wasn’t paying attention to where she was going and almost tripped over something that looked like a human leg.
Jiang Pan was startled. She looked closer and saw that it was indeed a human leg.
Her heart suddenly tightened. She thought about some of the murders that had taken place in the suburbs, and her face immediately turned green with fear.
She was about to run when a strong hand grabbed her ankle. Jiang Pan let out a strange sound and almost passed out.
Five minutes later, Jiang Pan was furious and gritting her teeth as she told the person who grabbed her ankle that she had been severely frightened.
Ten minutes later, Jiang Pan was carrying the woman with the injured foot on her back. While cursing under her breath, she walked toward the main road.
Half an hour later, they finally arrived at the hospital. After running back and forth to pay and rent a wheelchair, Jiang Pan could finally sit down and rest after another hour.
“Thank you, beautiful.”
Jiang Pan’s beautiful face showed impatience. “Less talk, more money. The bill is right here. Just don’t forget to pay me.”
“When my master gets here, I’ll definitely pay you back.”
The woman introduced herself as Jin Yan. She was an orphan who was adopted by a feng shui master. She was taking a shortcut through the wasteland and accidentally sprained her ankle.
Whether it was out of kindness or something else, Jiang Pan had helped Jin Yan, but now she was starting to doubt the credibility of Jin Yan’s words.
Because Jin Yan’s foot wasn’t the only thing that was injured. She had a few other fresh wounds and some old ones that hadn’t fully healed. Most importantly, she had a phone on her but didn’t call anyone for help.
There were too many questionable points. Jiang Pan’s mind was racing. She just hoped she didn’t get into any trouble for doing a good deed.
It was late at night, and in the emergency room, only Jiang Pan and Jin Yan remained.
After a long silence, Jiang Pan asked, “When will your master get here?”
Jin Yan played with her phone and said vaguely, “He’s on his way.”
Jiang Pan lost her patience. She reached out and snatched the phone, warning in a cold voice, “Listen, you have two choices. You can either call your master on speakerphone, or I’ll call the police.”
Jin Yan panicked. “Beautiful, no, please wait a little longer…”
Jiang Pan dialed “911” on her phone and showed it to her, with her finger on the call button.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry, don’t call. I’ll tell you the truth…”
Jin Yan said she had run away because her husband was abusing her. She then said that she had been trafficked, her adoptive parents died early, and she was too young to grieve. To survive, she followed her blind grandfather and set up stalls to tell people’s fortunes.
She didn’t like to scam people with superstitious beliefs. After her grandfather died, she found a job at a factory, where she met her husband. She married him for a hamburger. She thought she had found a home, but she didn’t expect to be suffering in a different place.
After Jin Yan finished, she looked at Jiang Pan cautiously.
Jiang Pan didn’t react much after listening. It felt like she was listening to a story. She raised an eyebrow in confusion and then smiled. “It’s a shame you don’t write novels.”
Jin Yan’s face scrunched up. “You don’t believe me?”
Jiang Pan was silent. It wasn’t that she didn’t believe her, but that she had to be careful.
She stood up. “I’m going to the bathroom. You can run, but your phone and ID are with me.”
A few minutes later, Jiang Pan returned and handed Jin Yan’s phone back to her.
“When I went to register you, I already checked. You’re not married.” Jiang Pan spoke slowly. “I also checked your credit score just now and called the people on your contact list. I used your methods to get some information out of them.”
Jin Yan: “…”
At this point, Jin Yan’s face froze. She looked at Jiang Pan, who had a strong presence, and opened her mouth. “Miss Jiang, I have my reasons.”
“Huh? Miss Jiang?” Jiang Pan raised one eyebrow. “You know me?”
“Who doesn’t know Jian Yue’s scumbag ex? The gossip about you two was all over the trending searches when you first divorced,” Jin Yan said with a grin. “But, I’m a fan of your face. I’ve argued with your haters so many times because of your face…”
“Cut the crap,” Jiang Pan interrupted. She became serious. “Do you really know feng shui?” She always felt it was too much of a coincidence that someone who knew feng shui would just appear when she needed one. It was as if fate was looking out for her.
“I know a little,” Jin Yan smiled.
Jiang Pan then asked, “Once your foot is better, will you take on a job?”
Jin Yan: “?”
Jin Yan didn’t understand what Jiang Pan meant. “Take on a job?” She frowned and thought, but still didn’t get it.
Jiang Pan got straight to the point. “Come back to my hometown with me to check the feng shui there.”
Jin Yan was even more confused. “What do you mean? Go back to your hometown…”
“To check the feng shui. Is that not clear enough?” Jiang Pan frowned and confirmed again. “Do you really know how to tell fortunes and do feng shui?”
Jin Yan replied, “That’s all a scam.”
Jiang Pan continued to ask, “Aren’t you good at scamming people?”
Jin Yan smiled slightly. “Miss Jiang, when it comes to scamming, I’d say I’m a flawless scammer.”
Jiang Pan smiled back. Although it was a bit strange, there was no denying that this heaven-sent scammer, Jin Yan, could go back to the village with her and fool the villagers. Most importantly, her face was unfamiliar. Once this transaction was complete, they wouldn’t have to see each other again.
She didn’t ask any more questions. She changed the subject and got straight to the point. “How much do you charge for a scam? Name your price if you want me to hire you.”
Jin Yan was stunned. She couldn’t believe what Jiang Pan was saying, but she didn’t seem to be joking.
“What do you mean, Miss Jiang?” Jin Yan frowned. “How many people are you talking about?”
Jiang Pan looked at her and smiled slightly. “Just check the feng shui of the land in my hometown.”
Jin Yan was surprised. “Huh?”
