I Snatched the Male Lead’s "Cool Novel" Script - Chapter 15
This person has gone mad again.
That was the only thought in Yan Yu’s head.
And what do you do when you encounter a madman?
Run, of course!
“The medicine is ready. Apply it yourself. I’m going to go check… if there’s anything left in my old room that hasn’t been brought over yet.”
Her fleeing figure looked as if she were being pursued by a thousand ravenous beasts.
Yin Beiqing watched with a lingering smile as the thin silhouette disappeared around the corner. In a rare fit of mercy, she didn’t force the girl to stay. Her gaze fell upon a handkerchief left on the side table.
She walked over and picked it up. The soft cloth held that medicinal fragrance Yan Yu always carried, along with the bloody scent Yin Beiqing usually loathed—yet today, she didn’t find the smell repulsive at all.
Guilian slithered out from wherever she had been hiding, her body winding around a pillar as she hissed toward Yin Beiqing.
“Get down,” Yin Beiqing said, shooting her a side-glance.
The white python nodded and slid down sheepishly, coiling obediently at her feet. In a flash of blue light, she slowly transformed into a human—a little girl who only reached Yin Beiqing’s waist, her hair tied in “Nezha” buns.
Beast soul grades were also divided into four ranks. Grade C souls possessed spiritual awareness and could talk and walk, assisting their masters with simple, basic spirit arts. Grade B souls could perform complex combination arts. Grade A souls required no coordination with their master and could cast spirit arts autonomously.
Finally, those like Guilian who had evolved to Special Grade possessed human forms.
“Master, why did you catch that arrow?” Guilian’s eyes remained the same translucent emerald as her beast form, but now set into a round, chubby face, they appeared delicate and lovely. She wrinkled her nose, looking unhappy. “I could have easily blocked a spirit art of that level.”
She had tried to block it for Yin Beiqing, but Yin Beiqing had overridden her and controlled the arrow to pierce her own shoulder.
“You’re still young. You don’t need to understand these things.”
Counting from the age she reached Special Grade, Guilian’s physical body was only ten years old. But since her consciousness coexisted with Yin Beiqing’s, she was technically nearly a hundred years old as well.
Being called “young” at nearly a hundred wasn’t exactly something to be happy about, even if the one saying it was her master.
The little girl gave a half-hearted “oh,” and with a poof, transformed back into her beast state. She flicked her tail—which was thicker than Yin Beiqing’s waist—and climbed back up her master’s arm.
“Can you tell me now?”
Yan Yu dashed all the way back to her empty, dilapidated little hut, sitting on the doorstep and panting without a shred of her usual poise.
She wiped her face, feeling a headache coming on as she saw the red smear on the back of her hand.
Given the frequency of Yin Beiqing’s fits of madness, she truly feared she wouldn’t live to see the series finale.
Never mind the finale; she hadn’t even cleared the first main quest yet.
“Master,” Guipan’s voice rang in her ear. “Come back and take a look.”
By “come back,” it meant return to the Soul Domain. This little meatball loved staying in the Soul Domain to gnaw on grass; in less than a week, the entire beast seemed to have grown a size rounder.
“What’s wrong?”
“You… just come quickly.” Its voice sounded a bit frightened.
Thinking something had happened, Yan Yu hurriedly formed a hand seal and projected her spiritual awareness into the Soul Domain.
The open space in front of the hut was now lush with the Soul-Gathering Grass and Lotus Beads she had scattered before. Yan Yu had to push through the dense foliage to see the path ahead.
“Master!” Guipan ran over the moment it saw her, bumping its big head into her arms. “Look at her…”
Yan Yu looked in the direction it was pointing. A barefoot woman in red stood not far away, glaring at her with fury.
“Idiot!” In the blink of an eye, the woman flashed in front of her, pointing at her nose and shouting.
Yan Yu looked confused.
“She’s that little butterfly,” Guipan whispered loudly in Yan Yu’s ear. “She used to come and pick my fruit to eat. I ignored her, but today she suddenly turned into a person and acted all mean.”
The red panda beast looked deeply aggrieved.
“Are you Ji Wu?”
Ji Wu didn’t answer. Instead, she demanded, “Why didn’t you dare to kill her!”
“‘Her’? You mean Yin Beiqing?”
Yan Yu recalled how her movements had suddenly become uncontrolled during the archery ritual. It seemed it was indeed the work of Ji Wu.
She asked back calmly, “And why do you want to kill her so badly?”
“She wouldn’t die from a small wound like that.” Ji Wu tilted her chin at her. “The important thing is, I enjoy the process.”
As expected of Yin Beiqing’s beast soul—with this level of insanity, even Yin Beiqing herself would probably call her a pro.
“Since you enjoy it so much, please do it yourself next time. Using a ‘rusty blade’ like me, you’ll find it unsatisfying every time.”
As Yan Yu spoke, she patted the little tubby in her arms that was busy making faces, preventing it from actually provoking Ji Wu into a fight. “You too, settle down.”
“Pan! I’m being super good!”
“You think I don’t want to?” Ji Wu grew angry at the mention of this. “It’s all because you trapped me in this godforsaken place! Otherwise, I would have been out long ago.”
“I trapped you?” Yan Yu thought to herself—did she really have the ability to trap a Special Grade beast soul?
“Isn’t it your beast soul?” Ji Wu pointed at Guipan, who was currently sticking its tongue out at her. “Ask it what ‘good deed’ it did.”
“Hmm?”
The little tubby immediately curled into a ball in Yan Yu’s arms. “I did it to protect Master! Your body couldn’t handle it if I didn’t lock her in the Soul Domain.”
Ji Wu’s soul power was incredibly domineering; even Yin Beiqing struggled to endure it, let alone Yan Yu’s “leaky pot” of a body. Thus, Guipan had forged a defensive barrier in the Soul Domain to keep Ji Wu contained.
Forging such a barrier consumed massive amounts of soul power, but this was Yan Yu’s Soul Domain. As her subordinate beast soul, it possessed the same privileges she did—within this domain, it was the absolute controller with inexhaustible soul power, second only to Yan Yu herself.
“See! It admitted it!” Ji Wu gnashed her teeth in rage, but she had already suffered at its hands and knew she couldn’t beat the fat panda here.
Guipan shrank into an even smaller ball, playing the victim. “Master, look, she’s being so mean.”
“What are you pretending for?”
“It only just gained spiritual awareness; it’s natural for it to be a bit timid. Don’t scare it.” Yan Yu patted Guipan’s back, smoothing its fur. “How about this: as long as you promise me that you will voluntarily return to the Soul Domain every time we come back, I’ll have it let you out.”
The original book stated that Ji Wu was a very special beast soul. She was far more aggressive than ordinary ones, like a walking soul-stealing device that instinctively absorbed surrounding soul power to strengthen herself. She was selfish enough to show no mercy even to her own master.
However, this wasn’t something she could control, and it was precisely this trait that gave her such formidable offensive power. If one disregarded combat technique and defense, Ji Wu’s raw destructive power was likely the strongest in the Kingdom of Jin.
“I suppose that’s acceptable…”
“What? You’re talking too quietly, we can’t hear you.” Guipan poked its head out, placing a claw behind its ear with an expression that was undeniably cheeky.
Having to bow her head while under someone else’s roof, Ji Wu clenched her fists in fury. “I said! I promise!”
“She’s out,” Yin Beiqing said inside the room, holding her tea and speaking out of nowhere.
Hanging on the pillar to stay cool, Guilian wagged her tail. “What’s out?”
Yin Beiqing pointed her finger forward. “The brat.”
As soon as she spoke, a red figure flew rapidly toward them from the direction she pointed. Without hesitation, the figure smashed through the expensive rockery Yin Beiqing had commissioned, charging toward her in the shortest straight line possible.
Seeing the mess, Yin Beiqing frowned. “Guilian, bite her.”
At the command, the python lunged. Before Ji Wu could crash into Yin Beiqing, Guilian bit her arm to halt her progress. Ji Wu countered with a palm strike to the snake’s head, and the two beasts quickly spiraled into a chaotic tangle in the air.
A panting Yan Yu arrived a moment later. She looked up, unable to even see the shadows of the two souls as they fought at blinding speeds.
Though both were Special Grade, Ji Wu clearly had the upper hand. Just as Guilian was about to be defeated, an ice spike the thickness of an arm suddenly flew from the room. With a thwack, it pierced into Ji Wu’s back. Her entire body was sent flying backward like a broken kite until her slender frame was pinned against the wall.
Guilian didn’t fight battles she couldn’t win fairly; seeing Yin Beiqing intervene, she stopped her assault and retreated to the side.
Yin Beiqing didn’t care about such niceties. She raised her hand and sent several more ice spikes whistling over. Though they all avoided vital spots, the display was terrifying.
Yan Yu hadn’t expected someone could be so ruthless toward their own beast soul.
“Scared?” Yin Beiqing brushed non-existent dust from her hands and walked over to the stunned Yan Yu. She let out a soft, mocking laugh at the bedraggled Ji Wu. “The brat has a bad temper. I’m educating her.”
One shouldn’t interfere in others’ private business, but still…
“Are you sure she won’t die?”
“She’s thick-skinned,” Yin Beiqing replied nonchalantly. She looked down and patiently wiped her fingers one by one with a wet cloth. “I’m doing this for her own good. With a temper like hers, she’ll suffer if she goes out into the world later.”
“…” You’re one to talk about other people.
