I Snatched the Male Lead’s "Cool Novel" Script - Chapter 3
Yan Yu had no time to worry about Yin Beiqing’s twisted mindset. Her voice was raspy with urgency. “Then I suggest the Valley Lord listen to me once more—go to the cell where Guo Lu is held. Immediately! Right now!”
If nobody stopped him, the male lead was about to successfully break out of prison!
Yin Beiqing didn’t fully trust Yan Yu, but her naturally suspicious nature, combined with Yan Yu’s panicked look and her own desire to have the two “Goddesses” confront each other, led her to lead the way to the dungeons.
…
At the same time, the male lead, Guo Lu, was waiting in his cell, anxious for rescue.
Earlier, he had received intel from his System. Taking advantage of the few days when Yin Beiqing’s soul power was at its weakest, he had dared to sneak in to steal her Beast Soul Bead. To ensure he wouldn’t be left without backup if caught, he had left a note for his childhood friend, telling her that if he wasn’t back by 6:00 PM, he was in danger.
This childhood friend was hopelessly obsessed with him. While others might not risk Langdie Valley, he bet his life that Yan Yu would come even if she knew she’d die. By his count, she should be arriving any minute.
Sure enough, the System chimed in his head.
[System: The female supporting character has gone to assassinate the female lead for you!]
Guo Lu curled his lips into what he thought was a cool, arrogant smirk. “I knew it. This woman is madly in love with me.”
[System: Beep beep—]
“Now what?”
[System: Bad news! The female lead and the supporting character are heading this way together. Host, please complete the prison break plan immediately!]
Guo Lu: “What did you say?”
…
Yan Yu knew the male lead was about to escape, so she hurried. For every two steps she ran, she coughed three times, moving even faster than Yin Beiqing. But before they could enter, they collided with a frantic maid rushing out.
The maid was disheveled, her panic glaringly obvious among the usually composed staff. Before she could speak, Yin Beiqing sensed something was wrong and bypassed her. Her face darkened as she looked inside: Guo Lu’s cell was empty. On the floor lay a beast pet, collapsed in a pool of blood.
Like Yan Yu, Guo Lu’s own soul power was too weak to support a Beast Soul’s evolution. However, such people could still increase their combat power by taming or raising Beast Pets.
This Grade B pet, named Lu Jia, had been tamed by Yan Yu’s mother for her. It specialized in Earth-type spiritual arts. The original Yan Yu had gifted it to the male lead.
Yan Yu glanced at the deep hole in the floor. Guo Lu must have escaped thanks to this pet. The walls of Langdie Valley’s prison were reinforced; a normal person couldn’t even scratch them with a shovel in a year. The poor pet had exhausted its soul power to dig that tunnel and was now on the brink of death.
With the prisoner gone, there was no need for a confrontation. Yin Beiqing knew exactly who was telling the truth.
This was the first time someone had dared to toy with her so blatantly under her very nose.
“Pursue him. I want him found—dead or alive.”
“Don’t go yet. He isn’t trying to flee the valley,” Yan Yu interjected quickly, her hands busy tearing her skirt to bandage Lu Jia’s bleeding horn. “Don’t forget his true goal here.”
Yin Beiqing instantly realized what Yan Yu meant. Her expression shifted violently. A red blur flashed, and she vanished from the spot.
Yan Yu picked up the bandaged Lu Jia and snatched a familiar golden jade pendant from the floor—the token used to command the pet. Guo Lu must have dropped it in his panicked escape.
She turned to the white-clad maid standing behind her. “Could you please lead the way?”
The maid hesitated, then nodded. She led Yan Yu toward the Treasury.
“Faster, please,” Yan Yu urged.
The maid stopped. Seeing Yan Yu’s confusion, she suddenly bent down, grabbed Yan Yu by the arm, and hoisted her onto her shoulder. Then, she took off with light, lightning-fast steps.
The girl’s pace was steady, but Yan Yu’s soft stomach was being hammered against the maid’s shoulder. By the time they arrived, her face was three shades paler. She gasped for air, handed Lu Jia to the maid, and said, “Hold this for me.”
Before the maid could refuse, Yan Yu ran inside. Lower-ranking maids weren’t allowed in the Treasury without permission, so she was forced to wait at the door, holding the bloody beast.
The Treasury was heavily guarded and trapped, but Guo Lu, a transmigrator, had his ways. He had already collected two treasures: a Cloak of Invisibility and a Mountain-Splitting Axe.
The former hid him from even Grade A Beast Masters; the latter was a relic that could cleave through any physical substance—wood, iron, or even magical barriers. However, it cost a massive amount of energy to swing. Guo Lu, physically weak, could only manage one strike. He had saved it specifically to break the box holding Yin Beiqing’s Beast Soul Bead.
The box, forged from the world’s hardest mountain gold stone, was useless against the axe. Guo Lu imagined everyone who looked down on him kneeling and begging once he obtained this Special Grade Soul Bead.
When Yan Yu burst in, the box was already split in two. She gasped and turned to look.
Guo Lu, wearing a black hood that only revealed his eyes, held the axe toward Yin Beiqing in one hand and gripped the blood-red Soul Bead in the other. “Don’t move! Or I’ll crush it and take you down with me!”
A Beast Soul Bead is one with its master. If it shatters, the master dies. Yin Beiqing had two; while she wouldn’t die instantly if one broke, it would be a catastrophic injury, especially given her current unstable state.
Yin Beiqing’s lips were a thin line. Her knuckles turned white as she gripped her bone fan. Yan Yu knew that if it weren’t for that bead, Guo Lu would already be mincemeat.
“Brother Guo Lu,” Yan Yu called out, slowly approaching. “It’s me. I’ve come to save you.”
Guo Lu turned, wary. “Xiao Yu? Why are you here?”
“I came to rescue you, of course… Cough! Cough cough…” Yan Yu looked like she might faint at any moment, but her pace didn’t slow. She closed the distance. “I saw your letter and brought reinforcements! The valley is surrounded by our people; she doesn’t dare act. Put down the weapon and come with me!”
“Reinforcements?” Guo Lu repeated, suspicious. He knew Yan Yu was a loner now. Was she lying? But in his mind, Yan Yu was so obsessed with him that she would never lie to him.
In that split second of distraction, Yin Beiqing struck.
Unlike her previous lazy state, she was fast and ruthless. Her left arm whipped up a massive cyclone, the fabric of her sleeve shredding to reveal lean, powerful muscle.
“Guilian, tear him apart!”
A translucent ice-blue mist rose from the totem on her arm, coiling into a seventy-foot-long white giant python. Its scales shimmered with a murderous purple light.
Hiss—!
The massive jaws opened. Guo Lu snapped out of his daze. Facing the oncoming serpent, his first instinct was self-preservation. He tossed the Soul Bead aside, grabbed Yan Yu, and shoved her in front of him as a human shield, closing his eyes tight.
Yin Beiqing tried to stop, but the move was fueled by ten-tenths of her killing intent. It was too late to pull back without a backlash.
Yan Yu’s breath hitched. Death was inches away. No, there must be a way!
In that microsecond, her brain flashed through the book’s mechanics. Her own Beast Soul was dormant, and her pet was unconscious. She had no soul power.
I won’t accept this!
Just as the python was about to bite off Yan Yu’s head, the Soul Bead Guo Lu had thrown suddenly reacted. It shot into the air, a red blur, and slammed into Yan Yu’s forehead.
A massive surge of energy invaded her body, spreading from her brain to her limbs like wildfire. The pain was so intense she collapsed to her knees, gasping. This was a Special Grade Soul Bead—something a terminally ill girl should never be able to handle.
The soul power rampaged inside her until it found an “opening” at her chest. The pain faded, a bit of color returned to her face, and a blood-red lotus totem appeared between her brows.
A thick, transparent barrier materialized around her. Yin Beiqing’s full-force attack hit the shield and vanished with a soft pop.
Yan Yu, her strength spent, coughed up a final mouthful of blood and collapsed.
Before she lost consciousness, one thought remained: Help… I’ve stained Yin Beiqing’s carpet twice in one day. I’m going to die so painfully.
