I Turned Out to Be the Paranoid Villain's White Moonlight - Chapter 2
Zhan Yao didn’t have much physical strength, but her aura was fierce.
The soft little bag hitting her head didn’t hurt much, but as if intentionally cooperating with her, the woman in front of her tilted her head to the left following the force of the blow. Done this way, it really looked like she had been hit quite hard.
Soon, many people noticed what was happening.
“What’s going on? Someone’s getting hit!”
“I don’t know, they just started arguing out of nowhere.”
“Isn’t that the girl who poured wine over Xu Yingxi’s head? You should have seen it; it was intense. Xu Yingxi’s face went completely black.”
The crowd whispered and gossiped, but some sharp-eyed individuals recognized the woman’s identity: “Wait, look at her—doesn’t she look familiar?”
“Is that… Yu Wanqiao of the Yu family?”
Yu Wanqiao.
At the mention of this name, the crowd fell into a tacit silence. Tonight was the trial opening of Yunlan Bar, and those invited were all wealthy scions of the inner circle. Practically everyone was rich or noble, but if you were to name the wealthiest among them, it was undoubtedly the Yu family.
The Yu family’s Chuansheng Group has industries across the globe with assets worth hundreds of billions, spanning real estate, department stores, hotels, and technology. As a daughter of such a prestigious family, Yu Wanqiao received an elite education and was sent abroad to study at a young age. Upon returning, she quickly took over various industries under Chuansheng Group; her prospects were limitless.
But as luck would have it, at some point, she developed a “mental illness.”
Word was, she was truly abnormal!
Secret scandals of the rich are always a topic of great interest. Some said she was violent and gloomy; some rumored her methods were cruel and sadistic; others brought up her late mother, suggesting she was even responsible for her mother’s death.
Gossip is usually just for entertainment, but certain concepts had subtly taken root in people’s hearts. Simply put: crossing Yu Wanqiao would never end well.
Looking at the young girl not far away, the crowd couldn’t help but break into a cold sweat for her. However, Yu Wanqiao’s reaction shocked them all.
She slowly straightened her head and gently raised her hand to tidy her stray hairs. Then she spoke—and her first words weren’t out of anger. Instead, she asked the girl in front of her: “Does your hand hurt?”
Then, without waiting for Zhan Yao’s answer, she smiled to herself: “Your temper hasn’t changed a bit.”
“…………”
She smiled. She actually smiled.
The onlookers’ eyes widened as if they were seeing a monster: Yu Wanqiao really is insane!
Coincidentally, Zhan Yao thought so too.
Though she didn’t know the woman, she could tell from her attire that she was from no ordinary family. Coupled with a face that was peerlessly beautiful and well-maintained, it was hard to guess her age—perhaps around thirty. To be “off in the head” at such a young age was actually a bit pitiful. Zhan Yao decided to let the matter drop and stop arguing with her.
But Yu Wanqiao clearly had more to say: “You…”
Before she could finish, the bar doors were pushed open. Yu Wanqiao glanced up, the smile at the corners of her lips pressing down instantly. She changed her words to: “You should go back first, okay?”
Zhan Yao thought: If I don’t go back, am I supposed to stay for dinner?
Meeting so many strange events right after transmigrating made Zhan Yao irritable. She turned and walked away at high speed.
From start to finish, Yu Wanqiao stared at her back, her gaze not moving for a long time.
After returning to the dormitory, Zhan Yao slept until 10:30 the next morning.
The original host had no classes today, and her roommates had left early. The dorm was quiet—perfect for catching up on sleep, except the bed was too hard and the blanket wasn’t soft enough.
The first thing the pampered heiress Zhan Yao did upon waking was “knock” on the system in her mind to ask when she could go back.
The system thought: Didn’t you just say you’d “make the best of it” yesterday?
But it only dared to think it, not say it: “According to the rules, you can go back once you complete the corresponding tasks—meaning, following the original plot to help the host finish her story line…”
Zhan Yao raised an eyebrow: “You mean I have to stay with that scumbag?”
“She has a name, it’s Xu Yingxi,” the system explained weakly. “Actually… she’s not as bad as you think.”
Fearing the host didn’t know the later plot, the system plucked up the courage to explain that while Xu Yingxi’s character was vile early on, there were reasons for it. Furthermore, in the later stages, she has an awakening, makes up for her mistakes, turns over a new leaf, and dotes on the original host.
“Make up for it?” Zhan Yao interjected. “How?”
“For example, she gives the host a life she never dared to dream of, gives her many expensive gifts, and even buys a small island for the host to name…”
It was all just material compensation.
“Then how does she pay back the mental damage the host suffered?” Zhan Yao asked.
That single sentence silenced the system immediately.
“Besides, even if she has her own difficulties, she should take it out on those responsible. What’s the point of venting it all on an innocent person?” As Zhan Yao spoke, she thought of the original host’s fate. As the protagonist of an old-school “dog-blood” tragedy, she was truly miserable—frequently driven to self-doubt by Xu Yingxi, committing self-harm multiple times, being endlessly PUA’d, and having her value relentlessly belittled.
Not only was Xu Yingxi’s private life a mess, she even claimed to have “cleanliness obsessions” (both physical and emotional), deleted all the contacts in the host’s phone, and kept her like a caged canary.
Calling her “scumbag” was too kind. Zhan Yao decided to stick with “dog-scum.”
“Forget it,” Zhan Yao said. “Who made these tasks anyway?”
“Our superior,” the system said.
Zhan Yao waved her hand, frowning: “Give your superior some advice: tell him to take some time to improve his ideological awareness.”
As expected of the host—always capable of shocking words. The system remained silent for a long while, not daring to answer. It slipped away into the shadows of her mind.
Time passed quickly; three days went by in a flash.
Since the bar incident, Xu Yingxi hadn’t seen Zhan Yao. She had been busy with business troubles, which left her depressed. But what made her even more depressed was that Zhan Yao hadn’t contacted her once.
Not even a single “I’m sorry”!
Xu Yingxi was used to getting whatever she wanted. She never looked for the cause of problems within herself. Even if she hadn’t been as nice to Zhan Yao recently, and even if she had pushed her too hard that night, that was no excuse for pouring wine on her head.
She figured she had spoiled Zhan Yao too much, so she decided to give her the cold shoulder for a few days until she came to apologize. But after waiting a long time with zero movement from Zhan Yao’s side, Xu Yingxi finally felt a sense of crisis. She was afraid Zhan Yao might actually want to break up.
What a joke. She hadn’t even gotten her into bed yet; how could she let her go?
With that thought, Xu Yingxi finally softened her stance. She decided to put back on her mask of the “gentle and doting lover” and call Zhan Yao.
To her shock, she was blocked.
She tried other social media platforms, but the messages wouldn’t go through. Gritting her teeth, she searched around and finally found one surviving platform where she could still reach Zhan Yao.
However… this platform was an app developed by Chuansheng Group.
The mention of Chuansheng inevitably reminded Xu Yingxi of Yu Wanqiao—and the fact that Chuansheng had recently acquired a company Xu Yingxi had been eyeing for a long time.
The Xu family’s worth was nowhere near the Yu family’s. Things that took the Xu family immense effort to achieve, the Yu family could do with the flick of a finger. The Xu family had held a grudge against the Yu family for generations. Xu Yingxi hated it too; she hated how Yu Wanqiao, a “lunatic,” could still be better than her at everything.
Normally, she wouldn’t even touch this app. But desperate to reach Zhan Yao, she endured the humiliation and opened it. Just like when she first messaged Zhan Yao, she asked about her well-being, reminisced about the past, and ended with a barrage of sweet talk, claiming Zhan Yao was her “destiny” and her “only true love,” and that she would marry no one else.
After editing, she @mentioned Zhan Yao and went to a meeting. She didn’t get free until evening. When she opened the app, a little red dot was glowing in her notifications.
Xu Yingxi sneered. As expected, Zhan Yao still can’t let me go. Her mood improved as she clicked in.
Zhan Yao had forwarded her message with this reply:
[Thanks for the invite. The writing is okay, I’ll give it a 4/10.]
[My evaluation is: I’d rather marry Yu Wanqiao than marry you.]
Xu Yingxi stared at those two sentences as if she were learning to read for the first time. She was stunned for a long, long time.
Meanwhile, in the girls’ dormitory, Zhan Yao curled her lips into a smile. Although she hadn’t met Yu Wanqiao yet, she knew from the plot that Xu Yingxi viewed Yu Wanqiao as her lifelong nemesis. If it weren’t for Yu Wanqiao’s later “madness” and failing health, Xu Yingxi never would have stood a chance against her.
So, using Yu Wanqiao to spite Xu Yingxi was definitely the smartest choice.
Zhan Yao let out a chuckle. The sound reached the ears of the drowsy system, making its “hair” stand on end.
“W-what’s wrong?” the system asked, terrified.
“Nothing,” Zhan Yao shook her head. “Just found something fun.”
“Go back to sleep.”
