I Turned Out to Be the Paranoid Villain's White Moonlight - Chapter 7
Unlike those rich kids who only knew how to eat, drink, and have fun, Zhan Yao was more than happy to learn new things to elevate her personal refinement.
For example, whenever she was bored in her past life, she frequented theater and stage plays. Over time, she had actually picked up some personal insights into the art of acting.
Yu Wanqiao was standing right behind her. Zhan Yao turned her head to look at her, her beautiful almond eyes hiding three parts grievance, six parts terror, and one part perfectly measured dependence. She nailed the role of a “pitiful and helpless victim” flawlessly.
In an instant, Yu Wanqiao was at her side.
Zhan Yao glanced at her sideways, leaning against her with a “boneless” frailty, her right hand clutching her left arm as she lodged her complaint: “They hit me. It hurts so much.”
Zhan Yao’s parents: “…”
The assistants witnessing the whole scene: “…”
A drama queen couldn’t outact her.
Yet, Yu Wanqiao actually bought it. She immediately cradled Zhan Yao’s left arm, gently rubbing it with a tender motion: “Are you okay?”
“A little better,” Zhan Yao nodded, looking piteous. “But it still hurts. Maybe the bone is damaged.”
“Yaoyao, don’t talk nonsense!” After a few seconds, Zhan Yao’s father and mother finally snapped out of it and hurriedly defended themselves. “When did we ever hit you?”
“Besides, aren’t you lying through your teeth? We are your parents!” the mother said, nearly fuming at Zhan Yao’s behavior. “You recognized us just a moment ago; how can you suddenly not remember?!”
“I was forced to say that by you,” Zhan Yao countered. Given Yu Wanqiao’s capabilities, it would be child’s play for her to find out the relationship between these two and herself. Yu Wanqiao had likely investigated her eighteen generations of ancestors the moment they signed the contract. But since she hadn’t exposed the lie, Zhan Yao was happy to keep performing. “After all, you kept threatening me. I was terrified, how could I not cooperate?”
“If you don’t believe me, ask these two,” she added, looking up at the two assistants. “Didn’t I say at the very beginning that I didn’t know them?”
The atmosphere fell silent for a few seconds. Finally, the two assistants gave a slight nod: “…Yes, she did say that.”
Satisfied, Zhan Yao curled her lips like a proud little peacock, then turned her focus back to Yu Wanqiao: “Wanqiao…”
She looked incredibly cute like this.
Yu Wanqiao looked down at her, her heart seemingly softening at the tone of the girl’s voice. Even though she knew perfectly well that Zhan Yao hadn’t suffered a single blow, she was willing to follow her lead: “Kick them out of the school.”
“Yes.” The assistants nodded, each grabbing one parent to drag them away.
Seeing this, the mother refused to give up. Although the woman in front of her looked dangerous and her words made her feel uneasy, she couldn’t leave without achieving her goal.
Thinking this, she immediately began to wail, attempting to use moral kidnapping against her daughter: “Zhan Yao, you god-forsaken brat! Now that you’re living well, you won’t even recognize your parents? You only care about your own pleasure! Have you forgotten how we raised you? Forgotten how hard we worked to support you? Do you have a single ounce of conscience left, you bastard!”
The insults were quite nasty.
Zhan Yao merely shrugged. She felt their level of verbal abuse was far too low to take to heart; she treated it like a comedy show. However…
She caught a glimpse of Yu Wanqiao’s expression. The woman’s face had darkened.
Uh oh.
Sure enough, Yu Wanqiao waved her hand for the assistants to stop. She stepped forward, looking down at the woman with a cold, towering gaze.
“Your son is named Zhan Fan, correct?” she asked, her voice dangerously light.
The mother was stunned. “H-how do you know my son’s name?”
“I also know that a year ago, Zhan Fan extorted a male classmate over a trivial matter and beat him so severely he was hospitalized with serious injuries,” Yu Wanqiao continued, ignoring her question. “But because that boy’s family was poor—his parents away working and only an elderly person at home—you bullied the weak and settled the matter with a few hundred dollars.”
“Who knew that this year, Zhan Fan wouldn’t change his ways. The same thing happened again. Only this time, the victim is a hard nut to crack and refuses to back down. You’re afraid he’ll face criminal charges, so you came here in a panic for help.”
“Unfortunately, you’ve looked for the wrong person,” Yu Wanqiao said. “This time, he will go exactly where he belongs.”
At these words, the faces of both parents turned ashen.
Yu Wanqiao didn’t spare them another glance. She returned to Zhan Yao’s side. When she spoke again, her tone was significantly softer: “I’ll have someone notify the school to strengthen security. These two will never show up on campus again.”
Zhan Yao nodded, feeling quite refreshed. “Great.”
The incident was just a small interlude. Whether or not it affected Yu Wanqiao was unknown, but it certainly didn’t bother Zhan Yao.
Since it was still early and Yu Wanqiao didn’t seem ready to leave, Zhan Yao took her for a stroll around the campus to change the mood. After walking for a bit, Zhan Yao actually felt hungry.
Yu Wanqiao’s voice came just in time: “Yaoyao, want to go grab something to eat?”
Zhan Yao found Yu Wanqiao much more pleasing to the eye after that suggestion. “Sure.”
“Any specific cuisine you want?” Yu Wanqiao asked. “How about Sichuan food?”
Sichuan food—exactly what she liked.
Zhan Yao had intended to play it cool for a second, but since Yu Wanqiao was so observant, she dropped the act entirely and beamed. “Okay. When do we leave?”
“Now,” Yu Wanqiao said, stepping forward to open the car door for her.
Yu Wanqiao had switched to yet another luxury car today.
As Zhan Yao sat inside, she realized that even back when she was a wealthy heiress, she wasn’t this extravagant. This car existed in the real world too—it was one Zhan Yao had coveted for a long time. She hadn’t expected to sit in one today.
She instinctively felt the seat and looked over the interior, wanting to criticize Yu Wanqiao to the System: “Yu Wanqiao really knows how to enjoy herself. Wicked capitalism! I really…”
Before she could finish, Yu Wanqiao interrupted: “Do you know how to drive?”
“I do,” Zhan Yao replied reflexively.
“Then I’ll give this car to you,” Yu Wanqiao said. “Since you won’t be living in the dorms, you’ll need a proper way to get around.”
Zhan Yao fell silent.
The System waited for her to finish her sentence. “Go on, ‘I really…’ what?”
“Nothing,” Zhan Yao nodded in approval. “I really… love this.”
System: “…”
The car moved swiftly and arrived at their destination. Zhan Yao followed Yu Wanqiao into a VIP room on the top floor and sat down. Yu Wanqiao handed her the menu, mentioning she didn’t eat much in the evenings and that Zhan Yao should order whatever she liked.
“Okay.” Zhan Yao didn’t stand on ceremony. She ordered several dishes and handed the menu back to the waiter.
“Tomorrow is the weekend. I have some business to handle and might not be able to get away, so I’ll send someone to help you move,” Yu Wanqiao said after the order was placed. “Once I’m free in a few days, we’ll go register the marriage.”
“Okay.” Zhan Yao nodded. Even though they were a fake couple in a contract marriage, Yu Wanqiao didn’t skip a single detail. It was hard not to feel well-disposed toward her. Zhan Yao thought for a moment and decided she should show some reciprocal care.
She spoke softly: “Then remember to eat on time and come back early.”
She was speaking to her in the tone of a wife.
A different kind of emotion seemed to flash in Yu Wanqiao’s eyes. She paused for a few seconds before replying, “Mhm, I will.”
The service was fast. Soon, the table was filled with the dishes Zhan Yao had ordered. Today, she was in a great mood and finally got to taste the delicious food she had been craving. Her beautiful almond eyes narrowed slightly with a clear curve at the corners of her lips.
She looked stunning. She drew all of Yu Wanqiao’s gaze and attention.
After the meal, the assistant drove them back. When they reached the school gate, Yu Wanqiao didn’t let them follow, choosing to walk the remaining distance with Zhan Yao alone.
The moon was bright and beautiful tonight. Zhan Yao walked along, enjoying the breeze. Seeing some foxtail grass growing by the river, she instinctively plucked a few stalks to play with.
“What are you weaving?” Yu Wanqiao asked softly.
Zhan Yao replied: “A ring.”
Yu Wanqiao fell silent, watching her fiddle with the grass. By the time they reached the dormitory, the ring was finished. Since they were about to part ways, Zhan Yao thought for a second and decided to give her “masterpiece” to Yu Wanqiao as a parting gift.
Yu Wanqiao was actually very cooperative, lowering her eyes as she let Zhan Yao put it on.
“Pretty,” Zhan Yao admired her work with satisfaction. She turned and waved. “Goodnight.”
Yu Wanqiao nodded, just like that night: “Yaoyao, goodnight.”
Half an hour later, Yu Wanqiao was back in the car. She had left in a hurry today and still had much work to finish. Her assistant, knowing she wasn’t one to procrastinate, began to speak to go over the upcoming schedule.
But before she could speak, her gaze was caught by something.
President Yu had returned with something new on her hand—a ring woven from foxtail grass. While it was well-made and lifelike, it looked incredibly out of place on President Yu.
Furthermore, it was a cricket ring.
If not for her professional training, she would have burst out laughing at the sight of those two cricket antennae swaying back and forth with Yu Wanqiao’s movements.
“President Yu, this…”
Sensing her gaze, Yu Wanqiao looked down. She gently removed the ring and handed it over.
The assistant let out a sigh of relief. “Shall I throw it away for you?”
“No,” Yu Wanqiao said, shaking her head slowly. “Go back and find the most beautiful jewelry stand. Hang it up.”
“…”
