Inherited 100 Million - Chapter 10
In Jun Yu’s arms, Xue Yizhuo muttered, “I was just curious and came here to take a look… for no other reason.”
Jun Yu’s voice was as gentle as ever, but Xue Yizhuo felt like she was trying to hold back a laugh. “Yes, I know.”
It must be an illusion, she thought. An immortal wouldn’t mock people.
Jun Yu helped Xue Yizhuo to her feet.
Without her noticing, the crowd around them had thinned out considerably. Xue Yizhuo no longer felt the same suffocating pressure. Nothing else had been lost, but she was sad about her skirt…
Xue Yizhuo looked at the dirty footprints on the hem with a heavy heart.
Jun Yu noticed and asked, “Should I go buy you another one?”
Xue Yizhuo wanted to cover her face. You’re too nice. On the internet, a lot of people would be calling you ‘wife.’
Xue Yizhuo shook her head. “It’s fine, I have a lot of clothes.”
The number of outfits from the game that she had in her inventory was one hundred million of each style. Xue Yizhuo couldn’t understand why the programmers would add such strange and meaningless data to a test account.
Xue Yizhuo asked, “Miss Jun, why are you here?”
Jun Yu replied gently, “A disciple found residual demonic energy here. The murderer who has been harming the townspeople likely stopped here.”
Xue Yizhuo nodded. An idea suddenly occurred to her, and she said to Jun Yu, “Miss Yang is here too.”
“That Miss Yang?” Jun Yu said thoughtfully.
Xue Yizhuo was a little dejected. “But I lost track of her.”
Jun Yu said, “We’ll find her eventually.”
Xue Yizhuo was optimistic. Yangliu Alley was only so big, and it would be easier to find someone during the chaos than before. As Jun Yu said, they would find her eventually.
“I just thought of something,” Xue Yizhuo said, looking a little conflicted. “I wonder if Miss Yang knows about the murderer’s existence? After all, everyone who died had offended her. Maybe she knows about what’s happening.”
And what if the sedan chair that blocked her path was a deliberate act by Miss Yang?
If that were the case, Miss Yang would not be innocent; she would be the blood-robed person’s accomplice.
Jun Yu said, “You don’t seem very happy. Does this theory bother you?”
Xue Yizhuo thought for a moment. “The idea of only one murderer sounds better than having two.”
She had a good impression of Miss Yang. Perhaps it was because of the physical disability and the hardships she had faced that Xue Yizhuo felt a subconscious sympathy for her.
But the truth was what it was, and it wouldn’t change based on her wishes.
“Let’s go look at the body,” Xue Yizhuo said, naturally taking Jun Yu’s hand and leading her toward the scene.
Jun Yu didn’t resist at all.
••••
A mummified corpse was surrounded by a large crowd.
Some people looked terrified, while others were bold enough to examine the body. The bold ones were, of course, the people from the Shiwai Pavilion. Their method wasn’t a normal autopsy; they were examining the residual demonic energy on the body.
Seeing Jun Yu, the young girl who had been in the same room as Xue Yizhuo hurried over. She was about to say something, but her eyes widened in surprise when she saw Xue Yizhuo holding Jun Yu’s hand. She stopped short.
Jun Yu said, “Don’t hold back.”
As she spoke, Xue Yizhuo had arrived at the scene and let go of her hand.
Jun Yu felt a strange sense of loss.
“Oh, okay,” the girl nodded. She looked away from Xue Yizhuo and said to Jun Yu, “Pavilion Master, the demonic energy is the same as before. It was done by the same demon cultivator.”
She added, “And because he just killed someone, the demonic energy hasn’t had time to dissipate. We can roughly determine his location.”
Jun Yu nodded. “Just do what you think is best.”
Encouraged, the girl clenched her fists and went back to find her fellow disciples.
Xue Yizhuo asked Jun Yu in a low voice, “Don’t you need to follow them?”
Jun Yu replied softly, “Since I intend to train them, I shouldn’t be following them all the time.”
She asked, “Do you want to follow them?”
Xue Yizhuo nodded.
“Follow me,” Jun Yu said. “We’ll take another route.”
Since she was leading the way, it was only natural that she would take Xue Yizhuo’s hand.
Xue Yizhuo felt no strangeness and trotted a few steps to catch up. “Do we need to examine the demonic energy?”
Jun Yu said nonchalantly, “I’ve already pinpointed the demon cultivator’s location.”
Xue Yizhuo: “…”
As expected of the number one cultivator in the realm.
If everyone’s combat power were converted into a numerical value, Xue Yizhuo would definitely have the highest value in this world. She had tested it with her game inventory; the items in her slots still couldn’t exceed the one hundred million limit after she transmigrated. Xue Yizhuo reasonably guessed that one hundred million was the cultivation cap for people in this world.
The only way to break past that limit was to ascend to immortality, and the legend here was that ascension would take you to a place called the Upper Realm.
In this world, if you were to compare power levels, someone could be as strong as Xue Yizhuo, but no one could be stronger. In fact, because no one could have a cultivation level as perfectly high as Xue Yizhuo’s, she was the true number one cultivator in the realm.
But Xue Yizhuo didn’t think she could beat Jun Yu.
She couldn’t use her cultivation at all. She couldn’t even use demonic energy to find the corresponding demon cultivator.
This was… excellent!
She had not betrayed the lazy “salted fish” class!
Xue Yizhuo felt no shame and happily let Jun Yu, her cheat code, take her directly to the murderer.
Jun Yu walked slowly to accommodate her, but since they took shortcuts, they arrived at the murderer’s location very quickly.
When Xue Yizhuo saw the familiar building, she was stunned. “Is the murderer in here?”
In front of her was the Yang residence.
“I should say, he will be back here very soon,” Jun Yu said, pausing. “Be careful not to make a sound.”
“Huh?” Xue Yizhuo asked blankly.
She felt Jun Yu let go of her hand, but then, Jun Yu suddenly picked her up—
“…!”
Xue Yizhuo clamped her hand over her mouth to stop herself from gasping.
She wasn’t very heavy. Since she was a late bloomer, she was only about 70 pounds at this age. But 70 pounds was a decent amount for a woman, yet Jun Yu was holding her as if she were a cat, effortlessly floating onto the wall.
The wall of the Yang residence was very tall.
Xue Yizhuo looked down once and immediately closed her eyes.
She heard Jun Yu’s voice. “Are you afraid of heights?”
“…A little.”
Xue Yizhuo wasn’t really afraid of heights, but when Jun Yu held her, her body was suspended in the air with nothing to hold onto. Anyone would feel nervous being suspended ten feet in the air.
Jun Yu’s response was to hold her even tighter.
After steeling herself for a while, Xue Yizhuo carefully opened her eyes.
Jun Yu was walking on air.
There was nothing to step on, yet she floated forward like a gust of wind.
Jun Yu comforted her. “We’ll be there soon.”
Xue Yizhuo sat on her arm, holding onto her shoulder. The fear in her heart subsided a little.
Jun Yu carried her all the way to a two-story building. They went straight to the second floor, where Jun Yu placed Xue Yizhuo down in the open corridor.
When she felt solid ground, she felt a sense of unreality. It felt as if the wooden floor beneath her feet was made of cotton. Xue Yizhuo’s legs felt weak.
Jun Yu led her into the building. “We just have to wait for them to come back.”
“Them?” Xue Yizhuo immediately noticed the unusual plural pronoun.
“Shh.” Jun Yu placed a finger on Xue Yizhuo’s lips, motioning for her to be quiet. Then she put a hand under Xue Yizhuo’s armpit and lifted her onto a wooden beam in the ceiling.
“They’ll be back soon,” Jun Yu said.
The beam was narrow. Xue Yizhuo was a little afraid of falling, so she pressed against Jun Yu. Jun Yu also crouched down and held her protectively. Xue Yizhuo’s heart quickly calmed down, and she began to look around the room they had entered.
It was clearly a woman’s room.
A faint fragrance filled the air, and beaded curtains hung in place. From her angle, she could clearly see the dressing table, which was covered in various cosmetics in intricately carved wooden boxes.
Perhaps because of the compact layout, the room felt smaller than she had guessed it would be from the outside. But because of this, it also felt much safer.
Before Xue Yizhuo could examine all the furnishings, she heard footsteps from outside.
Xue Yizhuo instinctively held her breath.
The door opened, revealing Miss Yang’s face.
The beam was quite high. Without looking up, she couldn’t see Xue Yizhuo and Jun Yu. Miss Yang, like any normal person, didn’t look up at the ceiling for no reason after entering the room.
She walked over to the dressing table.
Xue Yizhuo frowned.
She caught a faint, barely-there whiff of blood, hidden beneath the scent of cosmetics… She thought she smelled it, but a moment later, she wasn’t so sure. Xue Yizhuo even wondered if it was just a psychological illusion.
Miss Yang sat down in front of the dressing table. She didn’t remove the hairpins in her hair. Instead, she took off her outer robe.
Xue Yizhuo’s eyes widened.
When she saw the scene in front of her, she momentarily forgot to breathe.
Behind Miss Yang, there was another person!
Xue Yizhuo was stunned. The face was so familiar. He was growing out of Miss Yang’s back, his upper body emerging from hers. It was the face of the blood-robed person!
Beneath Miss Yang’s outer robe was a blood-colored tunic.
The fragrance of cosmetics had hidden the smell of blood, but up close, the scent couldn’t be completely concealed, especially after the outer robe was taken off.
Miss Yang was the blood-robed person.
The blood-robed person was Miss Yang.
It wasn’t a secret admirer; they were one and the same. When Miss Yang appeared, the blood-robed person would hunch over and hide inside the tunic, making it look as if Miss Yang was a hunchback. When the blood-robed person appeared, he would wear a hood, hiding Miss Yang behind him.
After a brief moment of shock, Xue Yizhuo quickly thought of a word.
Conjoined twins.
The head belonging to the blood-robed person turned its neck, as if it had been cramped for too long. Its eyes darted around until they stopped on the beam in the ceiling.
Xue Yizhuo’s eyes met the blood-robed person’s.
Miss Yang’s hand, which was about to remove a hairpin, froze. The blood-robed person suddenly opened his mouth, and a jet of blood shot directly toward Xue Yizhuo’s face—
Jun Yu had already raised her hand.
But Xue Yizhuo, who was still dazed, moved even faster. Before she could even process what had happened, her body had already reacted.
Her round fan lightly moved, passing by Jun Yu’s hand to block the attack.
The silk fan easily stopped the jet of blood.
Xue Yizhuo came back to her senses with only one thought in her head.
…I’m done for.
She heard a soft sigh from behind her. “So, you’re a cultivator too, Miss Xue.”
Xue Yizhuo opened her mouth, but she couldn’t find a word to refute it.
She hadn’t wanted to cause any extra trouble and had been pretending to be a normal person in front of Jun Yu, but her cover was blown in a matter of days.
Xue Yizhuo didn’t dare to look behind her. Then, a sword light suddenly flared up beside her.
It was like a ray of moonlight—serene yet ruthless.
The blood-robed person let out a pained shriek. He saw the sword, but to his horror, he found there was no way to escape. The not-so-fast sword had blocked all his escape routes.
The white jade sword, like bone, pierced the blood-robed person’s chest.
Miss Yang lowered her head, watching as the tip of the sword emerged from her lower abdomen.
Blood dripped down the blade.
Xue Yizhuo jumped down from the beam.
There was no point in hiding now. Although it was still a bit unnatural, going up and down beams was no difficult task for her. She could even walk on air like Jun Yu, as she had done before.
It was just that she had been a normal person for so many years that her mindset hadn’t changed yet, and she was still a little afraid to do such things.
Jun Yu held the sword in one hand. Even with a faint smile on her lips, the blood-stained blade sent a chill down everyone’s spine.
Xue Yizhuo had a feeling that Jun Yu was going to stab her with that sword as well.
“I’m sorry…”
“No need to apologize,” Jun Yu interrupted her softly. “You had your reasons, and I understand.”
She added, “If anything, I was the one who was too forward in inviting you to join my sect.”
The more gentle Jun Yu was, the more guilty Xue Yizhuo felt.
If she had met someone with a worse temper, they would probably have thought she was just toying with them.
Jun Yu said softly, “For now, let’s just handle their situation.”
Xue Yizhuo looked up at the blood-robed person and Miss Yang, who were now contained by Jun Yu’s energy. The blood-robed person’s face was filled with resentment, but when Xue Yizhuo looked at Miss Yang’s face in the mirror, she saw only a slight daze and… relief.
Miss Yang put down her blood-stained hand. With the sword piercing through her, she wondered for a moment if the blood belonged to her or him.
But since they were one body, the blood was naturally indistinguishable.
Miss Yang closed her eyes.
She said in a low voice, “My brother killed all those people for me. All the blame rests on me alone.”
The blood-robed person roared, “Zishuang!”
Miss Yang grabbed the tip of the sword. The sharp blade instantly sliced her hand open.
The sword’s energy entered her body, wreaking havoc and instantly shattering her meridians.
The blood-robed person cried out in agony, “Zishuang!”
Xue Yizhuo’s eyes widened in disbelief.
She watched as the two bodies connected to each other suddenly twisted. Their point of connection was being pulled apart—the blood-robed person was frantically trying to separate from Miss Yang’s back.
“I killed everyone!” The blood-robed person stared intently at Jun Yu. Previously, Xue Yizhuo had only seen fierce glares in his eyes, but now they were filled with pleading. He repeated over and over, “I killed everyone!”
The woman in the mirror shed tears.
Tears rolled uncontrollably down Miss Yang’s face, mixing with the blood as they fell.
“Brother.”
Miss Yang called out softly and grabbed the blood-robed person’s hand.
Time seemed to freeze. The blood-robed person’s movements stopped.
Miss Yang whispered, “We live and die together.”
She held her brother’s hand tightly, but at the same time, she shattered their hearts’ meridians.
Xue Yizhuo watched with wide eyes as the two conjoined bodies fell to the floor in front of her. A flurry of footsteps echoed from outside. Someone crashed through the door. The teenage girl from Yangliu Alley was shocked by the scene inside and shouted, “Pavilion Master.”
And then—Xue Yizhuo didn’t know what happened after that.
Her vision suddenly went black without warning. When she could see again, she found herself in a strange place.
“Where am I?”
Xue Yizhuo looked bewildered, holding out her hand to catch a withered leaf falling from a tree.
Not only were the buildings around her unfamiliar, but the season had also changed to autumn.
A gust of wind shook the branches, and the leaves that were already on the verge of falling all detached at once, rustling down like a swarm of dried butterflies.
Xue Yizhuo raised a hand to brush the dry leaves from her shoulder.
She was on a small path with walls on both sides. She decided to just walk forward. Xue Yizhuo stepped on the withered leaves on the ground, and a crisp cracking sound echoed beneath her feet.
A chilly autumn breeze blew through the path, and her hair and skirt fluttered as she walked.
At the end of the path was a courtyard.
There were three trees in the courtyard. It was late autumn, and most of the leaves had fallen from these trees, just like all the others. A young girl was sitting on the steps of the building, propping her chin on her hands and watching the leaves fall. She was quiet, watching the entire process of a single leaf being pulled by the autumn wind, detaching, twirling as it drifted down, and finally becoming part of the blanket of yellow leaves on the ground. Xue Yizhuo had a feeling that even if there was nothing else to do all day, the little girl wouldn’t get bored just watching this.
It was so quiet.
Xue Yizhuo stopped in front of the little girl and squatted down so they could look at each other.
Xue Yizhuo asked, “Who are you?”
The little girl didn’t answer.
Xue Yizhuo asked again, “Where is this place?”
The little girl still didn’t answer.
Xue Yizhuo held her hand out in front of the little girl’s face, but the little girl’s eyes didn’t even blink.
She finally gave up. The little girl couldn’t see her.
“Tsk, what in the world is this place?”
Xue Yizhuo pushed off her knees and stood up.
She was already very close to the little girl, and as she stood, she could see the little girl’s back.
Xue Yizhuo froze.
The little girl’s back was hunched high. It was clear she was a hunchback.
…No.
Xue Yizhuo frowned.
This was the Yang family girl.
