Inherited 100 Million - Chapter 6
Xue Yizhuo was serious about settling down in Qingping Town. She had bought quite a few shops, though with her financial power, she would probably never have to worry about running out of money.
Hearing her words, Jiang Yuxin gave a couple of ingratiating laughs. “Miss Xue, please don’t be angry, I was just joking.”
Xue Yizhuo had no intention of holding it against him. There were many teenage boys who liked to tease young girls, and since her child-like body housed an adult soul, she wouldn’t get angry as long as they didn’t go too far. In her eyes, they were just a bunch of rowdy kids.
The boys on the wall were from respectable families. With the hot weather and no classes at the academy, they would work at shops to help their families. Xue Yizhuo recognized several of their faces.
They were just a little naughty.
“What are you guys doing here?” Xue Yizhuo asked. “Don’t tell me you don’t know what kind of place Yangliu Alley is.”
Jiang Yuxin’s already sun-reddened face turned even redder. “We… we were just curious and came to take a look…”
Xue Yizhuo knew they didn’t have the guts to do anything bad. She teased them, “And you only dared to come in the morning.”
Jiang Yuxin was a little defiant and stuck out his neck. “Didn’t you come too? You’re a young lady!”
Xue Yizhuo looked even younger than Jiang Yuxin, and he felt a flash of shame from being scolded by a girl who looked younger than him.
“I’m here for a reason,” Xue Yizhuo said, looking up at them. “Do you know a guy named Xu Liuzi?”
The boys exchanged glances.
Finally, Jiang Yuxin hesitated. “We… we know him… Why do you ask about him, Miss Xue? Xu Liuzi isn’t a good person.”
Xue Yizhuo said calmly, “I know. Not only is he not a good person, he’s also dead.”
Jiang Yuxin was surprised. “You heard about it too?”
From the look on his face, Jiang Yuxin knew a lot.
Xue Yizhuo asked, “Were you close to him?”
Jiang Yuxin quickly waved his hands. “No, no, why would I be involved with him? Xu Liuzi used to study at the academy, but he was kicked out for stealing. After that, he would come to the academy to cause trouble and bully students who were alone with a few other thugs!”
As he spoke, Jiang Yuxin and the other boys looked indignant.
“The day before he died, he came to the academy to bully people again!”
When Jiang Yuxin finished, the boy next to him raised his hand awkwardly. “That was me.”
Xue Yizhuo asked, “What did he do?”
“He didn’t get to do anything. That day we had something to do, so Yan Qing left early, but we caught up quickly. There were many of us, so he didn’t dare to do anything.”
The boy named Yan Qing said, “But a girl was bullied by him.”
Xue Yizhuo said, “I remember the boys’ and girls’ academies are separate, on different sides of the town.”
Jiang Yuxin nodded. “That girl wasn’t a student. She just happened to be passing by and was blocked by Xu Liuzi, who was looking for students to corner. Yan Qing heard Xu Liuzi say something really awful and couldn’t help but argue with him. Xu Liuzi almost hit him.”
“Who was that girl?”
“A girl from the Yang family who moved to Qingping Town about two months ago,” Jiang Yuxin said.
Two months ago… I wasn’t even here yet, Xue Yizhuo thought.
Xue Yizhuo looked at Yan Qing. “Do you remember what Xu Liuzi said? Could you tell me about it?”
Before she knew it, the sun was setting.
Xue Yizhuo looked up at the sky. The clouds were stained a brilliant red by the sunset. She had been busy for so long that she had even forgotten to eat lunch.
She had gone to four or five different places and was so busy she forgot to eat lunch. Although she hadn’t asked about every single victim, she had a guess.
But she still needed to verify a few things.
“No rush, no rush,” Xue Yizhuo whispered to herself.
Her top priority was to get something to eat. Xue Yizhuo felt like she was starving to death!
With her current power, she wouldn’t starve even if she didn’t eat or drink, but she was so used to a regular life of three meals a day that the thought of having skipped both breakfast and lunch made her panic as if she were about to die on the spot.
There were many restaurants along the street, but Xue Yizhuo walked past them with her eyes straight ahead, heading into an alley she knew well. In the hot summer, she had no appetite for steaming hot food; all she wanted was some cool, refreshing jelly. A certain quest had led her to a jelly stall with very good craftsmanship.
The stall’s owner was an old woman, and it was located right in her home. When Xue Yizhuo chatted with her, she learned that the old woman was a “self-combing girl” who had never married. When she was young, she pushed a cart through the streets to sell her jelly. As she got older and couldn’t walk as well, she hired someone to turn her front yard into a small shop.
The shop was tiny, with only one table placed outside, but it was always kept sparkling clean, and the bamboo holder for the chopsticks was spotless.
When Xue Yizhuo reached the end of the alley, she was surprised to see someone already sitting there, a person she never would have expected to see in such a place.
Jun Yu.
The old woman was placing a bowl of jelly in front of Jun Yu. Jun Yu took it, thanked her, and pulled a pair of chopsticks from the bamboo holder.
Jun Yu was like a handful of unstained snow. Even though the jelly stall was clean and tidy, Xue Yizhuo felt a sense of absurdity seeing her there.
Jun Yu also noticed Xue Yizhuo and smiled. “We really are fated to meet.”
Xue Yizhuo was speechless for a long time.
She sat down blankly across from Jun Yu. By the time she came back to her senses, Jun Yu had already ordered a bowl of jelly for her.
“Do you have any dietary restrictions?” Jun Yu even asked with concern.
Xue Yizhuo shook her head dazedly.
She watched Jun Yu gently give instructions to the old woman and felt that this world was truly bizarre.
After the old woman left, Xue Yizhuo couldn’t help but ask, “It seems you are very familiar with this place, Immortal?”
“Calling me Immortal is too formal. You can just call me Jun Yu,” Jun Yu said, a hint of nostalgia in her eyes. “To be honest, before I embarked on the path of cultivation, I lived right here in Qingping Town.”
Xue Yizhuo was genuinely stunned.
The existing storyline of Huangquan Mirror had never revealed this.
“When I was a child, there was also an old woman in town who sold jelly,” Jun Yu said, looking back. “By my reckoning, this owner should be the granddaughter of that old woman.”
For cultivators, a century felt like a moment.
But looking back at the mortal world, everything had changed.
Seeing that Jun Yu had already started eating, Xue Yizhuo was silent for a moment before asking, “Does it still taste the same as it did back then?”
Jun Yu replied, “The person is not the same, and the taste is not the same.”
Xue Yizhuo propped her chin up with her hand and looked into Jun Yu’s eyes. Her eyes were like calm autumn waters, making anyone who looked into them believe that her heart was as serene as her gaze.
But Xue Yizhuo knew Jun Yu’s true identity, and she couldn’t help but see this as a sign of her profound depth.
Her question seemed simple, but it also felt like it held a hidden meaning.
Xue Yizhuo carefully answered, “It should be the ‘yu’ from ‘a life of peace and tranquility.'”
Jun Yu’s expression didn’t change. After a slight nod, she moved on from the topic.
The way Jun Yu ate was also like a celestial being. It was as if she wasn’t eating mortal food, but sipping immortal dew. Xue Yizhuo subconsciously thought she was eating very slowly, but in reality, by the time Xue Yizhuo still had half a bowl of jelly left, Jun Yu’s bowl was already empty.
Jun Yu didn’t leave. Xue Yizhuo could feel her gentle gaze on her.
Although Jun Yu had said that calling her “Immortal” was too formal, Xue Yizhuo didn’t think they were close enough to use each other’s names. So she asked, “Is there anything else, Miss Jun?”
Jun Yu’s answer was unexpected. “The town hasn’t been very peaceful lately, and it’s getting dark. I’ll walk you home.”
Xue Yizhuo hesitated. “I still have to go to the clinic to pick up someone.”
Jun Yu asked, “A relative?”
Xue Yizhuo considered her relationship with Old Li and decided it could count as a relative, so she nodded.
Jun Yu said, “That’s fine. I have nothing to do these days and plenty of free time.”
Xue Yizhuo blinked. “I thought you would be busy vanquishing demons and evil.”
“It seems you already know what’s happening in town,” Jun Yu said. “This time, I’m traveling with my disciples. It’s their first time encountering a demon cultivator. It’s a valuable opportunity, so it’s best to let them handle it themselves.”
Xue Yizhuo nodded. An idea came to her, and she asked with interest, “How do you find the murderer?”
She had tried to use her cultivator abilities to find the blood-robed person earlier but had failed, as expected. Xue Yizhuo had no idea how to use her power. If she tried, it would be like a floodgate opening, or she could just let the game system handle it in idle mode. But the system didn’t have an auto-tracking function to find the murderer.
This useless system won’t even auto-path to quest objectives, even though it did when I was playing the game outside.
Jun Yu replied, “As long as a demon cultivator uses their power, there will be residual demonic energy. Every sect has spells to detect it.”
Xue Yizhuo almost blurted out that she wanted to learn that spell.
Using a spell to find a demon cultivator seemed much more convenient than her own method.
Xue Yizhuo said with a hint of melancholy, “I did some investigating today, and I think I have a good idea of what kind of person this demon cultivator is.”
