Inherited 100 Million - Chapter 8
As soon as she closed the courtyard gate, Xue Yizhuo marched up to Old Li with a stern look on her face.
Old Li was startled by her accusatory posture. “What’s wrong?” he asked blankly.
Xue Yizhuo asked him, “Do you know Miss Yang?”
Old Li scratched his head, unsure. “There are a lot of people named Yang in this town… Are you talking about the one who moved here just a month before us?”
Xue Yizhuo nodded. “Have you had any dealings with her?”
“You can’t really call it dealings,” Old Li said honestly. “One day, I was coming back from the market and saw a few hooligans blocking that Miss Yang. You know my eyes aren’t so good. From a distance, I can’t make out people, so I have to squint to see.”
“I only saw her that one time!” Old Li said, afraid that Xue Yizhuo wouldn’t believe him. He even reenacted how he had looked at Miss Yang.
Xue Yizhuo instantly understood where the problem was.
Even though Old Li didn’t have any ill intentions, the way he squinted… it couldn’t help but look a little lecherous.
Now it all made sense.
Xue Yizhuo let out a breath and lightly tapped her forehead with her fan. She reluctantly told Old Li about everything she had found out that morning.
Old Li was stunned. He never would have imagined that he had brought such a disaster upon himself for such a ridiculous reason.
“It’s said that some demon cultivators increase their power by draining the vital energy and blood of living people. It’s likely that the demon cultivator is just using Miss Yang as an excuse to cultivate,” Xue Yizhuo said, her tone not pleasant. “It’s like killing two birds with one stone.”
“We can’t afford to mess with a demon cultivator!” Old Li said, panicked. “Let’s move away right away.”
Xue Yizhuo corrected him. “You can’t mess with a demon cultivator.”
Old Li suddenly remembered the scene from yesterday when Xue Yizhuo had forced the blood-robed person to retreat. The realization hit him, and he pointed at Xue Yizhuo. “Are you a cultivator?”
Before Xue Yizhuo could answer, he muttered in disbelief, “No way. How could you be a cultivator…”
“Why couldn’t I be?” Xue Yizhuo put her hands on her hips, annoyed. There was no need to hide her abilities from Old Li. With everything now explained, Xue Yizhuo pushed Old Li toward the main room. “Alright, now you know why the blood-robed person came yesterday. Hurry up and go rest.”
Xue Yizhuo promised him confidently, “I won’t let anything happen to you.”
After nightfall, Xue Yizhuo rummaged through her inventory for a long time before finally finding an automatically-activating defensive artifact.
She tossed the artifact into Old Li’s yard and watched as a transparent light barrier, visible only to her, enveloped the small courtyard. She finally let out a sigh of relief.
She had been busy all day, and now at night, Xue Yizhuo still couldn’t rest. After ensuring Old Li’s safety, she ran out again to search for the blood-robed person.
Jun Yu had said that all sects had spells to search for demon cultivators, and Xue Yizhuo’s library of skills was extensive, but after searching for several hours, she couldn’t find a similar spell. The skills she had were all from the game. She guessed that this spell wasn’t available because it had no use for players.
But in this world she had transmigrated into, according to Jun Yu, it was a required course for cultivators.
Xue Yizhuo had no choice but to use a mortal’s clumsy method to search for him.
After asking a passerby for the location of the Yang residence, Xue Yizhuo wandered around the area. She had seen the blood-robed person’s face last night and hoped to use that to find him.
The blood-robed person seemed to have been following Miss Yang. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have known exactly which people had offended her.
She waited for a long time, but the rabbit never ran into the tree.
Xue Yizhuo was getting tired. She half-squatted on the ground, hugging her knees, sighing as she looked at the Yang residence.
The Yang family, like her, were outsiders, but the Yang residence was much more magnificent than her small courtyard. It was clearly a wealthy family. She heard that Miss Yang’s parents had died, and she had moved to Qingping Town with the large inheritance her parents had left behind. In the world of Huangquan Mirror, the situation for women was much better than in ancient China, but a frail woman moving to a foreign town would still face a lot of trouble.
The hooligans probably bothered Miss Yang because they thought she was alone and helpless.
They just didn’t expect that she had a protector hidden nearby… The blood-robed person appeared after Miss Yang moved to Qingping Town, so he likely came here with her from another place.
As Xue Yizhuo was lost in thought, the side door of the Yang residence suddenly opened.
A small sedan chair emerged from the residence.
This sedan chair…
Xue Yizhuo immediately stood up.
Wasn’t this the same sedan chair she saw last night?
The one that caused her to lose track of the blood-robed person.
Xue Yizhuo frowned and cautiously followed it.
The sedan chair initially stayed on the main roads, but after two streets, it turned into a small alley. The alley was narrow, so Xue Yizhuo used an invisibility spell to continue following. The alleys in Qingping Town were a complex labyrinth. After following for a short while, Xue Yizhuo had no idea where she was. The memory of the path they took made her feel dizzy.
Xue Yizhuo only knew one thing: they hadn’t strayed too far from the main roads.
In other words, it seemed like their destination could have been reached by the main road, and it would have been much easier. But the sedan chair insisted on taking the small alleys… as if they were trying to do something in secret.
From ahead, she could faintly hear the sounds of music.
Xue Yizhuo was momentarily stunned. Even a person with no musical sense like her wouldn’t think this was elegant music. It was more like suggestive, decadent melodies.
After walking out of a small alley and turning a corner, the area suddenly lit up.
Xue Yizhuo held out her hand. The candlelight, filtered through thin red silk, fell upon her hand. The light was dim, and everything was hazy in the night.
A woman leaned against a door, giving a light laugh. Her red lips were slightly curled, and there was a hint of crimson at the corner of her eyes. Her eyes shimmered, reflecting the deep night and the seductive red glow.
Xue Yizhuo’s face flushed. She covered her face with her fan and scurried through the back door into the courtyard, following the sedan chair.
She pulled out her mini-map and, as expected, saw the three words: Yangliu Alley.
This kind of place, this kind of place… How could Miss Yang come here?
Places like this might have complex, winding paths to protect the privacy of their guests. With the dim candlelight, it was easy to lose track of someone. The sedan chair had been a large target, so Xue Yizhuo had followed it easily. But as soon as Miss Yang got out, Xue Yizhuo lost her almost immediately.
Miss Yang, who got out of the sedan chair, was wearing a simple, clean dress that seemed out of place in her surroundings. Xue Yizhuo caught a glimpse of a gentle and beautiful profile. It wasn’t as exaggerated as the rumored “devastating beauty,” but she was indeed a pretty woman.
The only unfortunate thing was her back.
Miss Yang was a hunchback. Her back was hunched high, making the clothes behind her bulge up. This ruined her beautiful figure and was a great pity.
Perhaps because of her back, Miss Yang’s walking style was also slightly different from others. An older, elegantly dressed woman led her deeper into the courtyard. Because of Miss Yang, they weren’t walking fast, so she shouldn’t have lost them. But by a strange coincidence, a drunk customer staggered right in front of Xue Yizhuo and almost bumped into her.
The overpowering smell of alcohol filled the air. Xue Yizhuo quickly stepped back to avoid him.
She had only taken her eyes off Miss Yang for that brief moment, and Miss Yang was gone.
Xue Yizhuo stood glumly by the wall. No matter how hard she looked, she couldn’t find them.
She had overheard a few sentences between Miss Yang and the older woman. It seemed the Yang family was in the cosmetics business, and Miss Yang had come to Yangliu Alley to discuss a business deal with the madam of the house.
She didn’t know when their meeting would end, or if something unexpected would happen afterward.
The chance of being offended in a place like Yangliu Alley was much higher than anywhere else.
Xue Yizhuo did not want to miss anything and have another mummified corpse appear in Yangliu Alley.
