Just Wanting to Divorce My Love Rival - Chapter 12
For some reason, being comforted only made Mu Cheng cry harder and louder.
Listening to her sobs, Zhong Yingzhi felt a wave of restlessness. She couldn’t help but wonder if her “Don’t cry” had been poorly timed or delivered incorrectly.
Zhong Yingzhi agonized over it for a long while, hesitating on how to best soothe her. Finally, she blurted out: “You’re so noisy.”
The girl, who had been crying joyfully, froze. She looked up with tear-filled eyes, and the next second, she wailed even louder, cursing between sobs, “How can you be like this? I’m crying like this, and all you do is complain that I’m noisy!”
Zhong Yingzhi’s lips parted several times, but in the end, she said nothing.
Mu Cheng choked out, “I need to blow my nose. Do you have any tissues?”
Zhong Yingzhi shook her head. “No.”
Mu Cheng pouted aggrievedly, then suddenly grabbed Zhong Yingzhi’s sleeve and, without a care in the world, wiped her tears and snot all over it.
Zhong Yingzhi watched this, her pupils dilating and her brow tightening. Several times she moved to pull her sleeve back, but for some contradictory reason, she didn’t actually follow through.
It wasn’t until she had thoroughly cleaned her face that Mu Cheng satisfiedly let go of the sleeve.
Zhong Yingzhi looked at the damp stains on her arm, her lip twitching, but she said nothing.
Mu Cheng tried to stand up, but having crouched for so long, her legs were numb. Her foot slipped, and she accidentally tumbled right into Zhong Yingzhi’s arms.
In the accident, Mu Cheng’s head ended up buried somewhere it shouldn’t have been—it was soft and smelled quite nice.
Zhong Yingzhi’s body went rigid. She was stunned.
Mu Cheng was also dazed for a moment before quickly pulling back, feeling a bit awkward. “Cough, cough… um, my legs were numb, it was an accident. They’re actually quite big.”
The moment the words left her mouth, she regretted them. What the hell does “quite big” mean? Why did I say those three words? Did I suddenly get water on the brain?
Zhong Yingzhi’s face darkened.
Mu Cheng gave a sheepish laugh. “Don’t be mad. We’re both girls, don’t be shy. When I say they’re big, I’m complimenting you, you know?”
The more she explained, the more awkward it got, so Mu Cheng simply shut up.
Zhong Yingzhi looked at her bruised and swollen face and said, “I’m taking you to the infirmary.”
Mu Cheng nodded, but as she took a step, she realized her stomach hurt terribly. Every move made her hiss in pain; after all, she had been kicked a dozen times.
Noticing her distress, Zhong Yingzhi asked, “Can you still walk?”
“It’s fine, I can walk.” Mu Cheng leaned against the alley wall, gritting her teeth to endure.
Zhong Yingzhi walked to her side. “Put your hand on my shoulder. I’ll support you.”
Mu Cheng hesitated. “Don’t you dislike being touched? Is it appropriate for you to help me?”
Zhong Yingzhi frowned, appearing somewhat irritated. She said deeply, “It’s inappropriate. Walk by yourself then.”
With that, she ignored Mu Cheng and started walking away.
Mu Cheng called out from behind, “Wait, wait! Don’t go! Good sister, dear sister, help me! It’s appropriate, very appropriate! I shouldn’t have been a smart-mouth, I was wrong!”
Zhong Yingzhi paused, her brow arching slightly, and turned back.
Mu Cheng let out a sigh of relief when she saw her return; she had almost been left behind.
Zhong Yingzhi didn’t just support her this time; she reached down and swept the girl up into a princess carry. Mu Cheng let out a startled cry and instinctively wrapped her arms around the woman’s neck.
“Supporting you is too slow,” Zhong Yingzhi explained awkwardly.
Carrying a whole person, Zhong Yingzhi’s pace remained steady and firm, as if it took no effort at all.
Mu Cheng blinked a few times, looked up at her, and suddenly said something bizarre: “If you were a guy, looking at this scene, I’d really want to marry you out of gratitude.”
The moment she said this, Zhong Yingzhi’s steady stride faltered almost imperceptibly.
Suppressing her emotions, Zhong Yingzhi warned, “If you don’t want to be dropped, you’d better stop talking.”
Mu Cheng nodded obediently. “Got it. My lips are sealed.”
Despite her promise, a second later, she was staring at Zhong Yingzhi’s fluttering eyelashes and remarked, “Your eyelashes are so long and pretty. By the way, does people often tell you that you look like an elf? You know, those beautiful blue-eyed elves.”
Zhong Yingzhi looked startled for a moment, then she turned her tone cold again. “So much chatter. You must really want to be dropped.”
Startled, Mu Cheng’s arms tightened around her neck. “Don’t drop me! I’m covered in injuries; if you drop me, I’ll probably fall apart.”
Because she was afraid of being dropped, Mu Cheng clung to her especially tightly. Her face was almost pressed against Zhong Yingzhi’s neck. As she spoke, her warm breath hit the skin there, feeling tingly and itchy.
Zhong Yingzhi’s throat moved as she swallowed. Her breath hitched, her body went stiff, and her heart began to drum in her chest.
“I won’t drop you. Don’t cling so tight, you’re choking my neck,” Zhong Yingzhi said.
Mu Cheng didn’t believe her at all—she had been dropped once before. Once bitten, twice shy. “I’m not letting go.”
Zhong Yingzhi repeated coldly: “Let go.”
Having been scolded, Mu Cheng reluctantly loosened her grip a tiny bit, feeling pained and terrified that an unhappy Zhong Yingzhi would actually toss her out.
With the girl no longer pressed against her, Zhong Yingzhi breathed a sigh of relief, but at the same time, she felt a sense of emptiness. She felt somewhat unhappy. Because of this strange emotion, her already cold face added a layer of gloom.
Oblivious, Mu Cheng asked bluntly, “Why is your breathing so heavy? Are you tired from carrying me so long? If you’re tired, put me down, I can still walk by myself.”
At this point, Mu Cheng added an uneasy supplement: “Put me down gently, though. Don’t just let go. Last time you just let go and my butt hurt for ages.”
She really didn’t trust this person.
Zhong Yingzhi couldn’t be bothered to respond and kept walking.
As Zhong Yingzhi carried Mu Cheng down the school’s main path, it naturally drew the stares of their classmates.
“Isn’t that Zhong Yingzhi? Who is she carrying?”
“No way, is that really her? Doesn’t she ignore everyone? What’s going on, who is that girl to her?”
“I don’t know. This is so strange and rare.”
“I know her. That’s Mu Cheng from the Chinese department. She’s in my class. I think she’s Zhong Yingzhi’s roommate.”
“Wait, I remember Mu Cheng confessed to Jiang Zhengzhi a while ago, but Jiang Zhengzhi is chasing Zhong Yingzhi… and now Zhong Yingzhi is carrying Mu Cheng?”
“This is a bit messy. A love triangle?”
“I bet Mu Cheng couldn’t get Jiang Zhengzhi, so she got mad and went after the person he likes just to get back at him.”
“…”
Mu Cheng rolled her eyes at the gossip. Why aren’t you guys screenwriters? You’re making up a whole drama.
The chatter made Mu Cheng feel a bit uncomfortable. “Um, maybe you should put me down. It’s a bit embarrassing with everyone watching. It’s bad for your reputation in public.”
Zhong Yingzhi looked down at the person in her arms. “Can you not go a single second without talking? Are you a chatterbox?”
Mu Cheng: “…”
Zhong Yingzhi scanned the crowd, and everyone who had been whispering and staring quickly looked away.
“So, who is this Jiang Zhengzhi they’re talking about?” Zhong Yingzhi asked out of the blue.
Mu Cheng didn’t want to mention him. “Just an idiot. Not important.”
“So, you’re pursuing me because of that Jiang Zhengzhi?” Zhong Yingzhi asked again, suddenly.
Mu Cheng was speechless. “No, Sister, stay calm. They’re just talking nonsense, you can’t take them seriously. Besides, I’m not pursuing you, okay? Rest easy—I have no feelings for you. I like guys.”
Zhong Yingzhi huffed. “It was just a joke.”
Mu Cheng’s lip twitched as she thought to herself, Your way of joking is pretty terrifying.
