Married the Second Generation Fox Demon with a Baby in a Flash Marriage - Chapter 19
Hu Mengmeng gritted her teeth and paddled through the river water with all her strength, quickly reaching the shore. Carrying Ye Xinyu, she leaped over the embankment railing. Her breathing was heavy; the heart-pounding events of the last few minutes still had her pulse racing.
She stopped and reached out to check Ye Xinyu’s breath. She was still breathing, but her skin felt slick and deathly cold to the touch. With her eyes closed, she was clearly unconscious, curled into a ball in Hu Mengmeng’s arms. At this moment, she didn’t look like the sharp-eyed, ruthless demon hunter from before; she looked pitiable.
Hu Mengmeng shook her head and scanned the surroundings. She had intentionally chosen a deserted spot. Given Ye Xinyu’s current state, she didn’t know what might happen if she left her alone. She decided to carry her toward a hospital or a more populated area while keeping her own demonic aura suppressed.
She had only run a short distance when the drone of the helicopter returned, moving toward her position. There were police sirens, shouting voices, and the barking of dogs. The helicopter above and the boats below… if they have that thermal imaging gear they mentioned, they’ve probably spotted me!
Thinking fast, she ran under a streetlight and set Ye Xinyu down. Just as she was about to bolt, she noticed a silver bell on Ye Xinyu’s wrist. It looked exactly like the one she had lost—no metal ball inside to make it ring, just the shape of a bell with unique patterns. Only the cord was different.
Recalling their night at the villa, she realized Ye Xinyu must have picked it up. Hu Mengmeng had only ever seen one bell with those specific patterns: her own.
Hearing the voices getting closer, Hu Mengmeng hurriedly untied the cord from Ye Xinyu’s wrist, grabbed the bell, and leaped into a nearby tree.
A group of uniformed men arrived, looking like official personnel, carrying flashlights and accompanied by police dogs. Hu Mengmeng held her breath and suppressed her aura, watching as they placed Ye Xinyu on a stretcher and moved her into a vehicle. Hu Mengmeng then slipped back into the river, diving deep and swimming several dozen meters to evade the thermal search. After confirming her direction, she swam toward the spot where she had parked her electric scooter.
Once ashore, she peeked around the corner. Her scooter was still parked safely under the tree. She quickly suppressed her bloodline, hopped on, and sped toward home.
When she opened the front door, Su Mingli was pacing the living room. The moment she saw Hu Mengmeng, she launched into a tirade.
“I called you a dozen times! Why didn’t you answer?! Didn’t I tell you to be home by eight?!” Su Mingli’s hands were still shaking from anxiety.
Mentioning the phone, Hu Mengmeng quickly unzipped her jacket and pulled it out. The screen was black and wouldn’t respond. It had been submerged in the river for far too long; even her own fingers were wrinkled from the water. Since the phone wasn’t waterproof, it was clearly dead.
“You brat! We just bought that phone! How did you end up like this? Did you fall in the water? Don’t tell me you ran into a demon hunter again!” Su Mingli barked. Hu Mengmeng’s outer clothes had mostly dried in the wind during the ride, but her undergarments were still soaked.
“Mom… well, I did run into one. But I’m fine, see? Mom, don’t be mad, ah—!” Hu Mengmeng cried out as Su Mingli swatted her shoulder.
“I told you to be careful, but you just don’t listen!” Su Mingli’s voice wavered with fear.
Hu Mengmeng stepped forward and hugged her mother. “Mom, doesn’t your hand hurt from hitting me? This time it really was an accident. I ran into Xiaoya, and a demon in the water tried to grab her. I couldn’t just stand by, could I? Mom, please don’t be mad. It’s my fault. I promise I won’t let you worry next time.”
“You… sigh. Go take a shower and change! It’s not summer anymore!” Hearing that it involved Lin Yuanya, Su Mingli could only sigh and pat her daughter’s back.
While Hu Mengmeng showered, Ye Xinyu was admitted to a private hospital. After being bathed and changed into clean clothes, she lay on a soft bed. Her face was deathly pale; she hadn’t yet recovered from her total exhaustion.
“When you found me, was I alone?” Ye Xinyu took a sip of hot water, her long lashes trembling as she looked at Huo Zhilan.
Her spiritual energy had been depleted faster than she could replenish it, leaving her in a state of extreme discomfort. While she appeared unconscious, she had been vaguely aware of her surroundings. That fox had been there; she had saved her, held her… and strangely, Ye Xinyu hadn’t felt a shred of revulsion toward her touch. Instead, it had felt warm, comfortable…
But she woke up alone. The fox was gone. Ye Xinyu wondered if she had been dreaming.
“The people on the helicopter said they saw someone bring you ashore, but the person vanished before they could reach you. Do you know who it was? Human or demon?” Aunt Lan asked.
Ye Xinyu’s slender fingers rubbed her pale wrist. Her eyes narrowed. It was the fox. But she had run away again!
“A demon,” Ye Xinyu said softly, looking at her bare wrist. The bell was gone.
After seeing that the fox still carried the bell she had given her as a child, Ye Xinyu had asked Aunt Lan to bring another bell from the Ye estate to use for a “Contract Seal.” She had hoped to complete the seal the next time they met and make the fox her contracted demon. Now that it was gone, she would have to prepare another. Fortunately, her mother had left several behind.
That fox hadn’t run far; she was somewhere nearby. Ye Xinyu didn’t believe she couldn’t find her.
“Xinyu, that was too dangerous. You need to step back from these supernatural cases for a while,” Aunt Lan said, looking worried. “That creature they hauled out of the river today was enormous and terrifying. I don’t know where these things are coming from. You need to recover. Your check-up showed no physical injuries, but you are extremely weak.”
“I’ll take a break from commissions, Aunt Lan. The water demon wasn’t particularly strong; the environment just made it difficult. I’ll focus on recovery.”
“You must. Since the hospital doctors can’t find the cause of your weakness, I’ve asked the Shen family to come look at you. They handled your grandfather’s illness, so they have skill in Taoist medicine. I’ve made an appointment for tomorrow.”
Ye Xinyu nodded. She had initially thought her weakness was simply due to losing her Primal Yin. But it was becoming clear that it was more complicated. Her mother had remained a demon hunter after giving birth to her, and she had never heard of such issues.
Now, not only was her energy failing to replenish, but whenever she used spiritual power, she felt a sharp, cramping pain in her abdomen. It had been particularly vivid in the river. The Shen family—practitioners of Taoist medicine—might be able to find the root cause.
The next day, a woman entered the hospital room. She appeared to be in her twenties, strikingly beautiful but with a rigid, professional expression. She wore a tailored business suit that emphasized her height and long legs. This was Shen Qingyi, the head of the Shen Group and the most skilled Taoist physician in her family.
Ye Xinyu was surprised to see her personally. Before the examination, she asked Aunt Lan and her assistant to step out.
“Ye Xinyu, you are pregnant,” Shen Qingyi said without preamble, her tone flat and clinical.
“What? Are you certain?” Ye Xinyu froze.
“You are carrying a little demon,” Shen Qingyi continued. “The spiritual energy your Ye family cultivates is specifically designed to suppress demons. It’s a miracle the fetus has survived this long—likely because it has half-human blood. This little thing is quite remarkable; it’s developing fast and requires a massive amount of energy and nutrients. This is only the beginning. With your current level of cultivation, even if you stop suppressed demons and focus entirely on the child, it will drain you dry before it is even born. Neither of you will survive. Furthermore, its presence will limit your ability to use Taoist arts. I suggest you terminate the pregnancy as soon as possible. Your body won’t be able to support the energy it needs.”
Ye Xinyu was stunned. Shen Qingyi’s words perfectly explained her recent physical anomalies. She never imagined that a single night with that fox would result in this.
She clenched her fingers, her brow furrowed in deep thought. After a moment, she looked up.
“What is the cost of terminating it?”
The moment the words left her mouth, she felt a sharp, twinge of pain in her lower abdomen.
