Married the Second Generation Fox Demon with a Baby in a Flash Marriage - Chapter 20
“The fluctuations from this little thing have suddenly intensified. Feel it carefully; it’s right here. Try wrapping it with your spiritual energy, and you should be able to sense it,” Shen Qingyi said, observing Ye Xinyu’s expression. She held Ye Xinyu’s wrist to check her pulse while pointing her other hand toward Ye Xinyu’s lower abdomen.
Ye Xinyu pressed her hand against her belly, cautiously probing and sensing as Shen Qingyi directed. There was indeed a pulse of spiritual energy there.
The source of her body’s energy drain had finally been found.
So it’s this little thing!
She had just mentioned terminating it—was it protesting? A sharp pang of heartache hit Ye Xinyu.
“Humans and demons walk different paths. For a demon fetus to be nurtured in a human body is an immense challenge. To even conceive is a stroke of fate; it is fragile yet tenacious,” Shen Qingyi explained. “It has been growing in you for some time now. Don’t let its small size fool you; terminating it would require significant effort. Unlike a human miscarriage, aborting a demon fetus requires specialized Taoist medical charms. If forcibly removed, your body will suffer irreparable damage. You would likely never conceive again, and your cultivation would never advance another inch. Furthermore, you would be unable to use spiritual energy for about half a year.”
“Then… what is the way to save it?” Ye Xinyu asked after a moment of silence.
“Unless you can get the demon who impregnated you to help nurture this little thing together. I don’t know the specific methods for that; demons have their own ways. However, a demon fetus differs from a human one, and the gestation period varies as well. One thing remains the same: it depends on the mother for growth, requiring sufficient energy and nutrition—even more so for a demon. Human biology and standard nutrition cannot satisfy it. Even if you refine spiritual energy for it, nutrition remains a factor. In the last hundred years, I haven’t seen a human-demon hybrid successfully born. Especially not one like this, which requires so much spiritual energy even at the embryonic stage. Even if that demon helps you, the risk is enormous. Are you certain you want to keep it?” Shen Qingyi’s expression grew grave.
“Thank you, Doctor Shen. I will consider it. Please keep this a secret; do not tell anyone,” Ye Xinyu said. If she truly needed that fox’s help, this was no longer a burden she could carry alone.
It seemed that no matter what, she had to capture that fox as soon as possible.
“The Shen family treats humans and demons equally. To us, they are all clients, and protecting client privacy is our professional ethic. You can rest assured,” Shen Qingyi said, raising an eyebrow.
“Thank you. Do you have any other suggestions?”
“I must ask first: what kind of demon is the father? It hasn’t taken shape yet, so I can’t tell,” Shen Qingyi asked.
“Of the fox clan. Likely of the Amber Red Fox lineage,” Ye Xinyu replied.
“I have some ‘Fetus-Protecting Pills’ specifically for fox demons. I’ll have someone collect them from me later. Try taking them to temporarily supplement the nutrients the fetus needs. As for spiritual energy, you’ll have to absorb that yourself. You should avoid using spells to expend energy and refrain from strenuous exercise. Cultivate your mind, stay in an environment rich in spiritual energy, and keep your spirits up. Otherwise, if you cannot sustain it and suffer a miscarriage, the damage to your body will be even worse,” Shen Qingyi warned.
After a few more instructions, the doctor departed.
Ye Xinyu lay on the hospital bed, her hand resting on her lower abdomen. Only by concentrating intensely could she feel the faint spiritual fluctuations.
Thinking of a tiny fox inside her—a little creature that would grow red fur and big amber-red eyes, a little ball of fluff—Ye Xinyu found she couldn’t bear to snuff it out. Moreover, it was already protesting as if it possessed a soul of its own.
But how could she protect it? Where was that fox now?
As she lost herself in thought, her phone rang.
“Xinyu, I saw there was quite a commotion at Binhe Avenue yesterday. Are you alright?” It was Tong Qiao’s concerned voice.
“I’m fine.”
“That’s good. Will you be returning to school soon? We’re holding a meeting for the new Martial Arts Club members. When you’re back, I’ll arrange the meeting and show you a few recruits. Their talent is quite good.”
“I’ll go tomorrow morning. You can organize it,” Ye Xinyu said.
The primary issue with her body was the little thing’s drain on her energy. As long as she rested and refined spiritual energy to supply its growth, she would only feel slightly tired; there were no other issues for now.
“So soon? Why don’t you rest more?”
“No need. I want to check the school as well,” Ye Xinyu said.
She remembered that when she first saw that fox, she was wearing a freshman military training uniform. If she hadn’t fled, could she still be inside the school? She had already scanned Fengcheng University with detection tools and found nothing. She had also looked through the freshman photos and found no one resembling her. Perhaps she had missed something. She would go to the school and see for herself.
Hu Mengmeng received the notification in the Martial Arts Club group that afternoon: a meeting would be held the next morning at 9:00 AM. When it was mentioned that President Ye Xinyu would attend, the group chat exploded with excitement.
Hu Mengmeng had heard the name “Ye Xinyu” countless times. She was the “golden child,” untouchable and superior. Hu Mengmeng didn’t feel much about meeting her; she only hoped this so-called President was competent enough to teach her some real skills.
The next morning, Hu Mengmeng had no classes. She ate breakfast, read for a bit in her apartment, and then headed to the training hall. The facility was located on the upper floor near the sports field, equipped with sandbags, protective gear, training dummies, and staves.
Hu Mengmeng arrived somewhat late. Several people were already there, including Lin Yuanya and her follower, Gu Mingzhen. Lin Yuanya was a probationary member like Hu Mengmeng, while Gu Mingzhen was auxiliary logistics. Gu Mingzhen seemed to be there only to serve Lin Yuanya, carrying her water bottle and bag while Lin Yuanya stood empty-handed.
As Hu Mengmeng entered, the people inside naturally turned to look.
“Hu Mengmeng, over here!” Tong Qiao waved her over. She clearly held Hu Mengmeng in high regard.
Hu Mengmeng walked over to where Lin Yuanya and the others were standing.
“Uh… are you Hu Mengmeng? The Hu Mengmeng from Taolin County?” Gu Mingzhen asked, her eyes wide with shock.
“Yeah. Hello,” Hu Mengmeng said with a simple nod.
Hu Mengmeng now weighed under 100 pounds and stood at 170 cm. In her sportswear, she looked tall and leggy. She had transformed from a clumsy, chubby shut-in into a fresh and lovely young woman. Her old classmates were naturally stunned; after all, it had only been two months.
Hu Mengmeng glanced at Lin Yuanya, wondering how she would react. Her original motivation for losing weight was so that Lin Yuanya wouldn’t hate her. Now, though her obsession had faded, she still cared about her childhood friend.
However, Lin Yuanya didn’t even look at her. She seemed distracted and worried, showing zero interest in Hu Mengmeng’s transformation. Hu Mengmeng felt a twinge of disappointment.
“You were high school classmates?” Tong Qiao asked curiously.
“Yeah, you wouldn’t believe how fat Hu Mengmeng used to be. I can’t believe she thinned down so much over summer break,” Gu Mingzhen said.
Tong Qiao asked a few curious questions, and after some brief introductions, she called the rest of the group over.
“President Ye is here. I’m going to meet her; wait a moment,” Tong Qiao said with a smile after her phone buzzed. The new members were visibly excited.
As Tong Qiao left to meet her, Hu Mengmeng sat on a training mat and touched the bell around her neck. After taking it back from Ye Xinyu that night, she had cleaned it and re-strung it on a new red cord. She had missed this little object while it was gone.
But seeing Lin Yuanya’s attitude, Hu Mengmeng’s mood soured. Should I just return this to its owner? Is there any point in keeping it? To remember my childhood? She had spent a year bringing her breakfast and doing her chores, and she had saved her at the river. Perhaps they were truly even now.
While Hu Mengmeng was lost in thought, Lin Yuanya and Gu Mingzhen were talking. Lin Yuanya looked nervous. She had been terrified when the water demon grabbed her, and she had sustained some scrapes on her arms and legs. Normally, she wouldn’t have come to such a meeting, but she couldn’t miss a chance to see Ye Xinyu.
“Xiaoya, what’s wrong? You’ve been unhappy since we got here. Aren’t you excited to see Senior Ye?” Gu Mingzhen asked.
“Senior Ye was at the river too. I don’t know how she is, or if she’s hurt. I was so busy being scared that I failed to help save her. That girl who saved me and Senior Ye were both dragged into the river!” Lin Yuanya said, filled with guilt.
She had been saved by Hu Mengmeng and was paralyzed by fear. When her driver and Gu Mingzhen arrived, she was too panicked to think. By the time she remembered Ye Xinyu, the steps were empty. Soon, police, boats, and helicopters had surrounded the area.
“Don’t be nervous, Xiaoya. Senior Ye won’t blame you. Isn’t she fine now? She’s even coming to the meeting,” Gu Mingzhen consoled her.
“She must have a terrible impression of me now. She won’t like me,” Lin Yuanya fretted.
Hu Mengmeng was using most of her spiritual energy to suppress her bloodline, but her senses were still enhanced. In the quiet training hall, she heard every word clearly.
Lin Yuanya likes this Senior Ye?
Wait… “Senior Ye” and “fell into the river.” Those keywords sounded far too familiar. Hu Mengmeng, whose reaction time was slightly delayed by the suppression, suddenly bolted upright.
This Senior Ye couldn’t possibly be that demon hunter, could she?!
Possessing martial skill, being beautiful… if it really was her, it fit perfectly. A chill ran from the soles of Hu Mengmeng’s feet to her scalp. She had to get out of here!
She tucked the bell inside her collar and walked quickly toward the door. She hadn’t even reached it when she heard footsteps. Then, two people entered. The one in the lead was cold and beautiful, with long, straight black hair parted down the middle. She wore a long black trench coat over a loose white shirt and slim-fit jeans. She walked with an aura of power, like a supermodel on a runway. Every step seemed to land right on Hu Mengmeng’s heart.
Hu Mengmeng stared dazed for a moment, then pinched herself hard.
Holy crap, it’s true! It’s really her!
Did I just walk right into the tiger’s den?!
Her heart felt like it was going to leap out of her chest. She wanted to jump out of the window and run, but her mind and body wouldn’t coordinate.
Wait, I’m safe right now! A thought occurred to her. When she met Ye Xinyu before, she was in her transformed state. Now, her aura and bloodline were suppressed. Who could possibly recognize her?! If Ye Xinyu knew what she looked like now, she would have been caught ages ago.
Hu Mengmeng forced herself to stay calm. If she ran now, it would be a dead giveaway. In broad daylight, catching her would be much easier than at night. She turned around stiffly, trying to adjust her expression.
As Ye Xinyu walked in, Tong Qiao began introducing the new members.
“Hu Mengmeng, come over here! This is our great President Ye!” Tong Qiao called out enthusiastically. She turned to Ye Xinyu. “Xinyu, look. Isn’t she different?”
“Yes,” Ye Xinyu said, narrowing her eyes as she looked in Hu Mengmeng’s direction. “She is indeed a bit different.”
