Married the Second Generation Fox Demon with a Baby in a Flash Marriage - Chapter 21
“Hello, President Ye!” Hu Mengmeng lowered her voice as much as possible, trying to sound well-behaved and earnest. She hunched her shoulders, looking like a naive country girl who was too shy to meet anyone’s gaze.
Ye Xinyu’s aura was overwhelming. Having witnessed several of her “ruthless” combat moments, Hu Mengmeng felt her heart trembling being this close to her.
Furthermore, the fox spirit bloodline she had wrapped in spiritual energy felt like it was being heated up; it was restless, as if trying to break through its constraints. Hu Mengmeng hurriedly poured more spiritual energy into the barrier, exerting all her mental effort to keep it contained.
She kept building psychological defenses in her mind: Right now, I’m human. My face, height, and measurements are all different from my fox form. Ye Xinyu can’t see through me. It’s impossible!
Her scent was perfectly masked, and the bloodline was safely tucked inside the spiritual sphere. Yes!
“Hello,” Ye Xinyu replied politely. Her expression remained unchanged, her gaze sweeping briefly over Hu Mengmeng’s face.
Hu Mengmeng’s discomfort didn’t escape Ye Xinyu’s notice. Fine beads of sweat had appeared on the girl’s forehead, and she looked visibly tense. Ye Xinyu had investigated her specifically before and even had people watch her for several days.
She was an ordinary kid who had recently counterattacked by losing weight. She was tall and had a fresh, clean face—nothing striking, but pleasant to look at. Ye Xinyu’s previous suspicions had mostly faded, but at this moment, they flickered back to life.
Before, Ye Xinyu had only seen her in photos, which didn’t reveal whether she possessed spiritual energy. Seeing her now, it was glaringly obvious. In her perception, Hu Mengmeng was indeed human, with not a trace of demonic aura.
However, she possessed spiritual energy, she was close with Tao Tao, and now she was acting completely unnatural. There was clearly something fishy going on—she likely had some connection to that fox.
“Mengmeng, you don’t need to be nervous. President Ye is very nice. President, Hu Mengmeng is a new member, a freshman from the Computer Science department. Her high school classmates just mentioned she was quite heavy two months ago; she’s got a lot of willpower to have thinned down like this,” Tong Qiao said to Ye Xinyu.
“Mm, not bad,” Ye Xinyu said.
Hu Mengmeng forced a small smile, secretly observing Ye Xinyu’s expression. The woman looked calm, aloof, and unapproachable; her eyes weren’t even scanning in Hu Mengmeng’s direction anymore.
Safe! She didn’t recognize me!
Hu Mengmeng let out a tiny breath. She began to “stealthily” inch away from Ye Xinyu at an imperceptible speed. With every centimeter of distance, her bloodline seemed to settle down slightly. She figured this was just a demon’s natural biological reaction to a hunter.
On Ye Xinyu’s end, she was surrounded by the other new members like an idol with her fans. Hu Mengmeng’s slow retreat didn’t draw anyone else’s attention.
“Senior Ye, I’m really sorry about last time. Are you okay?” Lin Yuanya looked at Ye Xinyu with nervous guilt.
“There’s nothing to be sorry for. I’m fine, just be careful next time. Tong Qiao, since I’m here—and since this is my final semester as an undergraduate—I’d like to choose one of the new members for personal, regular guidance,” Ye Xinyu said dismissively to Lin Yuanya before turning to Tong Qiao.
While no one else noticed Hu Mengmeng’s unease and her attempt to distance herself, Ye Xinyu saw it all. This “cowardly” behavior was different from the bold fox she had met, yet they shared a common trait: a desperate urge to get away from her.
Choosing a new member for guidance was a plan Ye Xinyu had tailor-made for Hu Mengmeng.
“Xinyu, are you serious? Do you have the time?” Tong Qiao asked in surprise.
“A little, not much,” Ye Xinyu said.
“Then who will you choose?”
Lin Yuanya looked at Ye Xinyu with eyes full of anticipation. Gu Mingzhen’s gaze dimmed, but she still patted Lin Yuanya’s shoulder to encourage her.
“Let’s draw lots. Write their names on slips of paper, and I’ll pick one,” Ye Xinyu said.
The new members were full of hope. Hu Mengmeng, however, wished she could vanish instantly. Tong Qiao had a name list; she tore off the names, crumpled them into balls, and let Ye Xinyu choose. Ye Xinyu had already memorized the positions of the names while Tong Qiao was crumpling them; she could pick whoever she wanted.
“It’s Hu Mengmeng! Mengmeng, congratulations! Your luck is amazing!” Tong Qiao announced, opening the slip for everyone to see.
Hu Mengmeng froze. Luck? This is a catastrophe! If she had known Ye Xinyu was that demon hunter, she never would have joined this club.
Lin Yuanya’s eyes filled with disappointment, and she looked at Hu Mengmeng with a flash of envy.
“What’s wrong? Stunned by joy?! You’re basically President Ye’s half-disciple now!” Tong Qiao pulled the retreating Hu Mengmeng back toward them.
“Yeah… stunned by joy. I really didn’t expect it,” Hu Mengmeng said, crying on the inside.
“Since the choice is made, let’s start today. Student Hu, come with me to the small training room over there,” Ye Xinyu said, taking a step closer.
“Um, Senior Ye… I… I’m feeling a bit unwell today. I shouldn’t be training or exercising,” Hu Mengmeng said, her legs feeling weak as Ye Xinyu approached. With the distance closing, her bloodline was acting up again. There was no way she was going into a small room alone with her.
“We won’t be training today. I just want to discuss a few things to prepare for the future,” Ye Xinyu said.
“I…” Hu Mengmeng was searching for another excuse when Tong Qiao chimed in.
“Mengmeng, this is a rare opportunity. Didn’t you say you wanted to learn some skills? Why are you being so stiff?” Tong Qiao patted her.
“No, I really feel sick. Sorry, I need to head back,” Hu Mengmeng said, clutching her stomach and doubling over as if in pain.
“Uh, President, it looks like… maybe another day?” Tong Qiao asked Ye Xinyu, guessing it was “that time of the month” for the girl.
“Very well. When will you have time?” Ye Xinyu asked, staring at her.
“I… I don’t know. I’m so sorry. I’ll let Senior Tong know when I’m free. I need to go now,” Hu Mengmeng said. Even at this distance, she felt she was losing her grip on the bloodline. Her head was spinning from the exertion. If she went into that small room, she felt she would snap and transform right then and there.
The other members were dumbfounded that she would reject Ye Xinyu’s first session. Even if you were sick, you should push through! Lin Yuanya was especially upset; she coveted this opportunity, yet Hu Mengmeng treated it with such disregard.
“Fine. Go and rest. Do you need someone to walk you?” Ye Xinyu asked with feigned concern.
Hu Mengmeng was clearly in a hurry to leave. Is she going to meet that fox? Ye Xinyu thought. Perfect. I’ll have someone tail her and see who she contacts.
“No! Sorry, I’m leaving!” Hu Mengmeng blurted out. Feeling like she’d been granted a royal pardon, she waved to the group and backed out the door.
The moment she left the training area, she wiped a handful of sweat from her brow and started jogging away. She planned to get home, release her bloodline, and think of a way to quit the club gracefully without making Ye Xinyu suspicious.
Inside, Ye Xinyu suddenly froze. She heard a soft “ting-ting-ting” sound.
It was the sound of a Contract Bell.
Contract bells don’t have a striker inside; they are silent. However, if a seal is active, vibrations will cause them to ring—a sound only the one who made the seal can hear. Ye Xinyu only had one active seal: the one on the bell lost by the river.
No one in the room had moved, except for Hu Mengmeng, who was running away.
Ye Xinyu had intended to call someone to tail the girl, but hearing the bell, she decided to follow her personally.
“Tong Qiao, you handle the rest. Pick a time for a group dinner, my treat. I have some business to attend to,” Ye Xinyu said before hurrying out.
Tong Qiao knew Ye Xinyu was busy and didn’t think much of it. Lin Yuanya watched her idol leave, feeling dejected that their meeting had been so brief.
Ye Xinyu focused her senses as she hurried down the stairs, listening for the bell. As long as Hu Mengmeng was within range and the bell was vibrating, she could track her.
Hu Mengmeng had run a good distance. The bloodline’s restlessness had finally subsided, allowing her to exhale in relief. She headed toward the classroom for her late-morning lecture. The room was currently empty as the previous class had ended. She found a seat and panted for breath.
Before she could catch her wind, the air changed. Her suppressed bloodline flared up again. Hu Mengmeng looked up toward the door. Ye Xinyu was walking in slowly, her eyes shimmering with a strange, eerie golden light.
Hu Mengmeng’s eyes went wide. She scrambled to stand, wanting to bolt, but before she could react, Ye Xinyu threw five small, strange flags into the air. They moved faster than she could think, circling above her head and forming a shimmering barrier of spiritual energy. Hu Mengmeng tried to move, but she hit an invisible wall in every direction.
She was trapped!
Ye Xinyu leisurely closed the classroom door and walked toward her.
“Little vixen,” Ye Xinyu said softly. “Where do you think you’re running?”
“Wh-what are you talking about? I don’t understand. I’m human. Senior Ye, don’t… don’t joke like that,” Hu Mengmeng stammered, sweat pouring down her face.
How did she slip up? The bell was hidden! Was it because she rejected the tutoring? She had used her best acting skills to fake that stomach ache!
As Ye Xinyu approached, the bloodline in Hu Mengmeng became increasingly violent. She fought to keep it down, determined to never admit she was a demon. Demon hunters weren’t allowed to harm humans—that would break the law.
“Oh? You’re human? Then why do you have fox ears? Are they fake?” Ye Xinyu asked, walking closer and looking at the top of Hu Mengmeng’s head with a puzzled tone.
Hu Mengmeng froze in shock. No way!
She hurriedly reached up to feel the sides of her head—nothing had popped out!
Ye Xinyu narrowed her eyes, a small smile playing on her lips. It was definitely her. She hadn’t been certain at first; she had used spiritual energy to check for illusions, but the person she saw was the same. Seeing Hu Mengmeng’s nervous reaction, she decided to bluff. She hadn’t expected the girl to actually reach up and check.
This fox seemed… not very bright. Just as “cute-dumb” as she had been as a child.
Seeing Ye Xinyu’s expression, Hu Mengmeng realized she had been bluffed. She was absolutely furious at her own stupidity!
