Married the Second Generation Fox Demon with a Baby in a Flash Marriage - Chapter 22
Being stared at by Ye Xinyu with that half-smile, Hu Mengmeng’s face turned beet red.
Several flags rotated, trapping her within a barrier of spiritual energy. The formation was constantly tugging at the energy within her body, and the orb of spiritual energy she had used to wrap and suppress her fox bloodline was on the verge of collapsing.
As Ye Xinyu drew closer, the fox spirit bloodline began to boil. With a sudden pop, it burst through the protective layers of spiritual energy and spread uncontrollably through her entire body.
Having been suppressed for so long, the bloodline flowed through her with exuberant joy. Hu Mengmeng’s dizzy head gradually became clear and sharp. Her clothes filled out at a visible speed, and her height shot up by five or six centimeters. The shape of her features shifted, transforming her into a style completely opposite of her previous self.
Ye Xinyu was startled as she watched Hu Mengmeng transform from a plain, cute girl with baby fat into a stunningly bewitching woman. She had never seen a transformation like this—a sudden, total shift from a normal human into a fox demon brimming with demonic energy.
The girl’s gaze changed from simple and naive to bright and spirited; she was a different person altogether.
The demonic scent radiating from Hu Mengmeng made Ye Xinyu’s abdomen—which had been feeling uncomfortable from the exertion of throwing the trap—feel slightly better. It was as if there were a magnetic pull; she felt an instinctive urge to be close to Hu Mengmeng.
Are we truly of the same source?
Hu Mengmeng was now essentially a fully transformed fox demon, her body filled with bloodline power and spiritual energy. Her eyes could clearly see the spiritual barrier surrounding her. She curled her hands into claws, her fingernails growing long and sharp as she tried to shred the barrier, but she only managed to leave a scratch that was instantly repaired.
“Trying to run? This ‘Trapping Array’ was prepared specifically for you. It cost quite a fortune. See if you can break it,” Ye Xinyu said, watching her.
“Ye Xinyu, what do you want?! I’m a demon, but I’ve never harmed anyone, never broken the law, and never done anything wicked! Why are you catching me!” Hu Mengmeng’s eyes turned crimson. She bared her teeth at Ye Xinyu, and in an instant, her ears and tail manifested. Her short hair lengthened into long red tresses, her eyes turned amber-red, and red tattoo-like patterns appeared on her face. This was her complete form, her strongest state.
This trapping array not only refused to break but was also continuously absorbing her spiritual energy to replenish itself. The more she struggled, the more energy it absorbed, and the sturdier it became. Unless she could shatter it in a single strike, she would only be trapped tighter and tighter.
Hu Mengmeng concentrated her spiritual energy into her hands, attempting to tear the barrier apart. She didn’t want to be caught. Her fox mother had been taken and never returned. Her mind was filled with memories of demon hunters capturing her kind—to them, demon hunters were hunters who viewed demons as “others” without a shred of sympathy.
Hu Mengmeng exerted her maximum strength, tearing a gap in the spiritual shield. As it tried to knit back together, she pulled with all her might. Seeing this, Ye Xinyu formed a hand seal, adding a second layer to the barrier.
“You say you’ve never done anything bad? Then what do you call using a bewitching illusion on me to steal my Primal Yin?” Ye Xinyu said as she reinforced the array. As soon as she used the technique, the discomfort in her abdomen returned.
Hu Mengmeng froze mid-motion upon hearing Ye Xinyu’s words.
“You were going to kill me! I was forced to use my innate skill to save my life. That was my first time using it; I didn’t know that would happen. And… it was your first time, but it was my first time too! You’re good-looking, but I’m not bad either, right?” Hu Mengmeng said, sounding a bit aggrieved.
Hearing this, a thin blush crept over Ye Xinyu’s face.
Fox demons walking the human world were notorious for using their beauty to bewitch others, often “harvesting” energy from humans and sometimes even taking lives. Hearing Hu Mengmeng’s defense, Ye Xinyu gained a slight understanding of her background. If what she said was true, this fox was a novice in society—simple and not at all the predatory creature she had imagined.
“You only had one short tail before. Now you have four and a half. That is the result of absorbing my cultivation and Primal Yin. Do you claim to be ignorant of that as well?” Ye Xinyu asked.
“I swear, I really didn’t know! I have no idea why I suddenly grew so many tails. After that night, I was terrified—I was scared every day that you’d find me and kill me. Using the Charm was wrong, but you were the one swinging a sword at people indiscriminately! You scared me into triggering my survival skill. Sister Ye, don’t look at me like this—my form just now was my true self. I’m only eighteen; among foxes, I’m still a cub. Sister Ye, surely you aren’t heartless? Sister Ye…”
Hu Mengmeng spoke while watching Ye Xinyu’s expression. Her voice became soft and pleading, her eyes shimmering like pools of water about to overflow. Her crimson pupils held a brilliant luster, and her large tails wagged as if trying to please Ye Xinyu, like a giant pet.
“I won’t hurt you. In fact, I can teach you things,” Ye Xinyu said, her heart softening. Even though the girl was quite large in this form, her pitiful expression didn’t feel out of place. It made Ye Xinyu feel she was weak, pitiable, and innocent—just like that little fox from her childhood. It made her want to reach out and pet the fur on her head and tails.
“Sister Ye, do you really promise not to hurt me?” Hu Mengmeng blinked her large eyes.
“As long as you are well-behaved, I won’t. In the future, become my Contracted Demon and stay with me, alright?”
Hu Mengmeng smiled, looking harmless. But suddenly, those “adorable” crimson eyes narrowed. She lunged with explosive force, tearing through the spiritual barrier. She thrust an arm and two tails through the gap; her hand grabbed the nearby Ye Xinyu while her tails snagged the rotating flags above, shattering the array instantly.
“You think I’d believe you? None of you demon hunters are any good! Being your Contracted Demon means being your slave—risking my life to kill my own kind for you!” Hu Mengmeng sneered, her sharp claws pressing against Ye Xinyu’s throat.
“There are many types of contracts. Do you only know of the master-servant kind?” Ye Xinyu asked, staring back at her.
“I won’t trust the word of a demon hunter!”
“Then you mean to kill me?” Ye Xinyu narrowed her eyes.
Despite being pinned by the throat, Ye Xinyu’s body—especially her abdomen—felt exceptionally comfortable due to the proximity. Earlier, she had been somewhat charmed by Hu Mengmeng’s words, but since she didn’t fully trust her, she had remained on guard. Even so, seeing the “pitiable cub” transform into a fierce demon was a slight shock. They say fox demons are cunning, and she certainly knew how to act.
But what about her behavior at the training hall? The lack of acting skills, the awkwardness, and the “stupidly cute” way she was exposed… what did all that mean? Ye Xinyu couldn’t figure it out yet.
“I don’t kill without reason. But if you’re relentless and insist on catching me, I won’t be polite! I hope we can end this here—we’re even! I’ll spare you once, so don’t come looking for me again!” Hu Mengmeng squinted.
“You vixen, are you trying to run again? ‘Even’?” As Hu Mengmeng let go of her, Ye Xinyu whispered, a talisman already in position in her hand. If Hu Mengmeng tried to bolt, she would throw it and catch her again. “You got me pregnant. Aren’t you going to take responsibility?”
“What? What did you say?” Hu Mengmeng was about to make a cool escape out the window, but Ye Xinyu’s words made her stumble. She wasn’t sure if she had heard correctly. Pregnant? What does ‘pregnant’ mean in this context?!
“Right here… is your little fox cub. Did you really think you didn’t leave anything behind that night?” Ye Xinyu said gloomily.
Hu Mengmeng turned back, her eyes wide. That night was truly her first time, and she was in a total daze—how was she supposed to know anything! She thought about how she had a fox mother who had conceived her with Su Mingli; it seemed that ability was hereditary. But how exactly a fox cub was made… she had no clue! She had only been a “half-baked” fox spirit for two months!
“Feel it for yourself and see if I’m lying. In the river, after I killed the water demon, I was extremely weak because of this little thing. Otherwise, a water demon that hadn’t even transformed wouldn’t have drained me like that. If you don’t believe me, then leave. I can’t nurture this little thing alone. I’ll have to terminate it.”
Ye Xinyu frowned as she spoke. The little thing seemed to sense her words; every time she mentioned termination, it reacted. Ye Xinyu truly didn’t want to get rid of it now; it felt as if it were already part of her own flesh and blood.
But the cost of nurturing it was too high. She had said all this to Hu Mengmeng to test the fox’s character and background. If she were like other fox demons—unscrupulous and full of hatred for hunters—Ye Xinyu might have simply forced her into a master-servant contract to help sustain the child. But so far, this fox remained a mystery.
Hu Mengmeng saw that Ye Xinyu didn’t appear to be lying. At eighteen, she had no readiness to be a “parent,” but she did have a sense of human responsibility. Human-demon hybrids were indeed difficult to gestate, and the odds of conception were low to begin with. As a female fox spirit, the chance of impregnating another female was likely a once-in-a-lifetime occurrence.
Hu Mengmeng paused, then leaped to Ye Xinyu’s side. Her tails suddenly flared out, wrapping around both of them like a giant red cocoon. She held Ye Xinyu’s wrist—the one holding the talisman—and looked her in the eye.
“You demon hunters… every one of you is so cunning!” Hu Mengmeng said, while her other hand pressed against Ye Xinyu’s lower abdomen.
“And you fox demons? Are you not deceitful and treacherous? Ah…” Ye Xinyu started to argue angrily, but then she felt a wave of spiritual energy from her abdomen. It was warm and comfortable, causing her to let out an involuntary moan.
“What are you doing?!” Ye Xinyu frowned, a blush covering her face.
“Didn’t you tell me to feel for myself?” Hu Mengmeng said. Looking at Ye Xinyu at such close range, she was struck by her beauty. The scent was wonderful, and her features were clearer than ever. Her skin was as smooth as jade, and the blush made her cold, distant face look more “human.” The corners of her eyes and brows were tinged with red—it was incredibly beautiful.
“Don’t do anything reckless! Otherwise, I won’t be polite!” Ye Xinyu knit her brows. She felt a surge of spiritual energy winding around her like a snake, bringing with it a sensation that was difficult to describe.
