Married the Second Generation Fox Demon with a Baby in a Flash Marriage - Chapter 23
“Do you feel a bit more comfortable now? I’m helping you stabilize the fetus,” Hu Mengmeng whispered into Ye Xinyu’s ear.
Hu Mengmeng noticed that even Ye Xinyu’s ears had turned red, and her body was emitting a faint, sweet fragrance. Her own throat felt dry; she had a sudden, inexplicable urge to take a bite of that crystal-red earlobe. She licked her lips and had to tear her gaze away to maintain control.
“I’m not comfortable! What kind of ‘stabilization’ is this?!” Ye Xinyu snapped, sounding annoyed. Yet, as she checked her internal sensations, her abdomen did indeed feel better.
But the process itself was… deeply embarrassing.
“This is the fox clan’s method of protecting the fetus,” Hu Mengmeng explained.
Beneath the supple, slightly cool skin of the abdomen and layers of tissue sat a tiny, developing life—weak yet tenaciously absorbing spiritual energy and nutrients. From the moment Hu Mengmeng’s hand touched the spot, she felt it: a little thing connected to her by blood, radiating a profound sense of kinship.
The fox spirit bloodline in her body practically leaped with joy, a primal instinct of affection and closeness.
Hu Mengmeng knew Ye Xinyu wasn’t lying. They truly had a child together.
The little thing became excited upon sensing Hu Mengmeng’s aura, and its fluctuations grew intense. Hu Mengmeng used her spiritual energy to soothe it. It was indeed a specialized technique of the fox clan.
However, Ye Xinyu seemed poorly adapted to this method. She appeared overly sensitive; in just a few moments, her face was flushed and her breathing had grown heavy.
“Stop!” Ye Xinyu managed to say, her voice strained as she tried to remain steady.
Hu Mengmeng pulled her hand away. The moment she did, the little thing fluctuated again, and Ye Xinyu let out a muffled groan of discomfort.
“Do you still not believe me?” Hu Mengmeng asked, watching Ye Xinyu’s expression turn to one of pain as she covered the spot again.
“Are you really an eighteen-year-old cub, or a battle-hardened old fox?” Ye Xinyu asked with a frown. Knowing such specific stabilization methods… was this fox really only eighteen?
“The method is in my memories. It’s instinct,” Hu Mengmeng replied.
“Then… how do we nurture this thing? Do you know?” Ye Xinyu asked.
“I know a little. During pregnancy, using this method to stabilize the fetus and providing the spiritual energy it needs is the absolute basic. If its energy demands become too great, we’ll need the fox clan’s ‘Dual Cultivation’ methods to supplement it. At the same time, you’ll need to consume nutrients specific to the fox race to ensure the cub develops normally. Basically, until it’s born, we have to stay together and cooperate for its sake. Are you certain you want to keep it?” Hu Mengmeng looked directly at Ye Xinyu.
“If I were willing to get rid of it, I wouldn’t have waited until now and gone through the trouble of finding you. It’s in my belly; it’s my own flesh and blood. The question is: do you want to keep it?” Ye Xinyu frowned, her face flushing again. If it was as Hu Mengmeng said, they were essentially tied together.
What kind of bizarre gestation method is this?
“As long as you don’t terminate it, I will help you nurture it. I will take responsibility for both of you. But,” Hu Mengmeng said firmly, “the prerequisite is that I will absolutely NOT sign any contracts with you!”
Just as Ye Xinyu was about to respond, both of their expressions froze.
“Someone’s coming!” they said almost in unison.
“What’s going on with the people inside? Class is about to start and the door is locked! I’m going to get the key to see who’s in there!” Someone outside pounded on the door, grumbling loudly enough for both of them to hear.
“I’ll take you out, or we’ll get caught!” Hu Mengmeng said to Ye Xinyu.
“Retract your ears and tail!” Ye Xinyu commanded. The tails were far too conspicuous.
“Then shouldn’t you retract your talismans?” Hu Mengmeng countered.
“My talismans and your tails go away at the same time. For the sake of the little thing… don’t run,” Ye Xinyu said, looking at her.
“I won’t run. For the sake of the cub and your body, you’d better not try anything either,” Hu Mengmeng replied. Ye Xinyu’s pregnancy had significantly lowered Hu Mengmeng’s guard and previous hostility.
The fact that this demon hunter hadn’t immediately terminated a demon fetus upon discovery, but was willing to pay a high price to save it, moved Hu Mengmeng—assuming Ye Xinyu was being sincere.
The two retracted their respective powers simultaneously. Hu Mengmeng returned to her transformed fox-spirit form (without the ears/tails), masked her aura, opened the window, and leaped out while holding Ye Xinyu.
Ye Xinyu was capable of high-level acrobatics herself, but being carried like a princess while jumping out of a building felt incredibly awkward.
Hu Mengmeng, currently taller than Ye Xinyu in this form, landed in the garden below first to buffer the impact. Ye Xinyu’s feet touched the ground a second later, and they separated.
Ye Xinyu steadied herself and glanced at Hu Mengmeng. This fox truly did care about her cub.
“We need to discuss what comes next. I have a place near the school. Shall we go there?” Ye Xinyu asked.
“I’m not walking into a trap. If we go anywhere, we go to my place. It’s also near the school,” Hu Mengmeng said.
“Then let’s just find somewhere on campus,” Ye Xinyu said coldly, seeing that Hu Mengmeng was still guarded.
Before Hu Mengmeng could reply, her phone rang. It was her roommate, Zhao Qingqing.
“Mengmeng, where are you? Don’t forget class! The professor is taking attendance today, and a single absence is ten points off your final grade! Hurry up, don’t be late!”
“Got it, thanks! I’m on my way,” Hu Mengmeng replied and hung up.
“Is your body okay for now? I need to go to class. I have a double period,” Hu Mengmeng said, looking at Ye Xinyu. The professor for the next class was notoriously strict. Hu Mengmeng really wanted to get top marks to make Su Mingli proud at the end of the year.
“Then I’ll go to class with you. We’ll talk afterward,” Ye Xinyu said. She was afraid that if they separated now, Hu Mengmeng would vanish.
They still had a series of things to negotiate. If Hu Mengmeng refused a contract, how would they maintain a relationship? How would they raise the little thing in her belly?
“Fine,” Hu Mengmeng agreed. This actually suited her too; she was afraid Ye Xinyu would go call for backup to capture her.
Still wary of each other, they headed to class together.
Ye Xinyu put on a face mask. When she looked up, she saw that Hu Mengmeng had already suppressed her bloodline, returning to her “pure and cute” human form. Her eyes had regained that slightly dazed, innocent look.
Even though she had seen it before, Ye Xinyu was still shocked by the transition.
After suppressing her bloodline, Hu Mengmeng still remembered everything that had happened, but she no longer had the “courage of a Great Demon.” She felt like a total coward again. Looking at Ye Xinyu, she felt a chill down her spine just thinking about the fact that she had recently pinned this woman by the throat.
I was… surprisingly fierce just now!
“Why does your appearance change so much? Right now, there isn’t a single trace of demonic aura on you,” Ye Xinyu asked curiously.
“Well, I’m not a pure demon. I’m a hybrid. My moms were a human and a fox demon. What you see now is my human body—how I look when the fox bloodline is sealed. After class, I’ll probably have to see my mom. My memories only cover purely demon pregnancies; I don’t have information on hybrids. My mom gave birth to me, so she should have the experience I lack,” Hu Mengmeng said honestly. Her face was flushed, and she found it hard to look Ye Xinyu in the eye. Ye Xinyu was just too beautiful—especially her eyes.
“I see. Then we’ll go see her after class. Shall we?”
“Okay, let’s go,” Hu Mengmeng said, walking ahead. Ye Xinyu followed at her side. Hu Mengmeng felt Ye Xinyu’s gaze on her so intensely she almost forgot how to walk.
Ye Xinyu observed her from behind. This “hybrid” was fascinating. Hu Mengmeng’s human form was a pure little darling with baby fat and round eyes. She was incredibly shy. Even without knowing she was eighteen, she radiated a tender, youthful innocence.
Watching Hu Mengmeng walk with a slightly clumsy, dorky gait, a small smile touched Ye Xinyu’s lips. The drastic personality shift between having the bloodline sealed or unsealed—that was the answer to her earlier question.
When she had met her as a child, the little fox wasn’t “partially transformed”—that was just how she naturally looked.
This “clumsy” version of Hu Mengmeng was quite fun; she answered every question honestly and had no hidden schemes. It was a good opportunity to ask more questions.
They soon reached the classroom. To Hu Mengmeng’s surprise, her counselor, Shen Yuexi, was there. She usually only saw her at class meetings or in the dorms. Her presence here to check attendance meant this course was indeed highly prioritized.
Hu Mengmeng greeted her. Shen Yuexi looked hurried and distracted; after scanning the room, she turned and left. She continued searching the entire building but found nothing.
“Where did she go? Little Fox… Sister can’t wait much longer!” Shen Yuexi reached the rooftop, her eyes filled with disappointment as she whispered to herself before continuing her search.
Hu Mengmeng didn’t know what Shen Yuexi was looking for. After the counselor left, she remembered that Shen Yuexi was also a demon and wondered how Ye Xinyu would react.
“I know about her. She’s registered,” Ye Xinyu whispered, noticing Hu Mengmeng’s look.
“What do you mean?” Hu Mengmeng asked after they found isolated seats in the back row.
“Demons can obtain legal human identities after an investigation. There is a specific department for registration, and they are audited every year,” Ye Xinyu explained, taking one of Hu Mengmeng’s books and sitting beside her, keeping her voice low.
Hu Mengmeng was curious about this new information, but class was starting, so she stopped asking. It wasn’t uncommon for students from other majors to audit classes, so no one bothered Ye Xinyu. Zhao Qingqing asked a quick question, and Hu Mengmeng just said she was a friend.
Hu Mengmeng opened her book. She had already pre-studied everything, so she just listened to reinforce it. Ye Xinyu sat beside her, watching. She noticed Hu Mengmeng was a “good kid”—taking notes and listening quite seriously.
After class ended, Hu Mengmeng packed her things. Ye Xinyu made a quick call to Huo Zhilan.
“I have a proposal,” Ye Xinyu said to Hu Mengmeng once everyone else had left the room. “You have a human identity and are half-human, which means you are bound by human laws. Since you are unwilling to sign a contract with me, we can get married and register it. A human marriage with written terms. This way, when the little thing is born, it will have legal status as a legitimate child. What do you think?”
“Married?!” Hu Mengmeng’s eyes nearly bugged out of her head.
