Married the Second Generation Fox Demon with a Baby in a Flash Marriage - Chapter 25
“Hello, Auntie.” Ye Xinyu greeted Su Mingli politely. Su Mingli snapped out of her daze and hurriedly invited her to sit down.
Ye Xinyu’s sudden arrival caught Su Mingli completely off guard. She scrambled to bring out the best snacks and tea she had in the house.
“Mengmeng, let me ask you one more time. Is it really Ye Xinyu? Are you absolutely sure?!” Su Mingli pulled Hu Mengmeng into the kitchen and whispered urgently.
“Of course I’m sure. I’ve felt it myself,” Hu Mengmeng said.
“And she knows you’re a demon? She knows the baby is a little demon, and she’s still getting married to you?” Su Mingli asked.
“She knows. Mom, you need to tell me about your experience back then. My memories only cover pure demon pregnancies,” Hu Mengmeng explained.
Su Mingli looked at Hu Mengmeng—who looked so much like her but seemed so dorky and clueless about what a prize she had landed—and gave her a hard pinch on the arm.
“Ow! Mom, what are you doing?! Why did you pinch me!” Hu Mengmeng cried out, looking at her mother with wide, accusatory eyes.
“You really hit the jackpot! Hurry up and wash the fruit in the fridge. I’m taking the water out,” Su Mingli grumbled, shooting her daughter a look.
While Hu Mengmeng rubbed her reddened arm and begrudgingly washed the fruit, Su Mingli headed back out. Given Hu Mengmeng’s average grades and dorkiness, Su Mingli hadn’t set her expectations high for a future partner. Heaven only knew that Hu Mengmeng would bring home a figure like this!
In terms of looks, talent, and family background, she was top-tier. Su Mingli couldn’t help but feel like her “family pig” had successfully uprooted someone else’s prize cabbage. It felt like they were getting away with highway robbery!
In the living room, Ye Xinyu and Huo Zhilan sat down. Aunt Lan glanced around, her brow furrowing slightly. The apartment Su Mingli rented was about sixty square meters; the living room was tiny, and the furniture was old. Although it was clean, it looked undeniably humble.
Ye Xinyu, with her crisp, high-quality attire and refined, untouchable aura, stood out in stark contrast to her surroundings.
“I’m so sorry. Mengmeng only just told me you were coming, so I’m poorly prepared to host you,” Su Mingli apologized as she poured water into disposable cups.
“It’s no trouble, Auntie. I also came on short notice. I should be the one apologizing,” Ye Xinyu replied politely.
“No, no! Don’t say that. It’s Mengmeng who let you down and owes you. I’ve already scolded and hit her. Rest assured, I will treat you like my own daughter from now on. If Mengmeng ever treats you poorly, I’ll break her legs. This apartment is rented, but I have a house back in Taolin County. I’ll sell it immediately and buy a place here in Fengcheng—in your name—to serve as your marital home,” Su Mingli declared, offering the best conditions she could think of.
“Auntie, please don’t trouble yourself with that. A newly renovated house isn’t good for the baby to live in right away. I have a finished villa outside the university at Fengjing Court; we can stay there for the time being, and you can move in as well,” Ye Xinyu said.
Though Su Mingli’s style of speaking was a bit blunt, Ye Xinyu could sense her genuine sincerity, and her impression of her mother-in-law-to-be was positive.
“We don’t have to live there yet, but the house will still be bought, and it will be in your name!” Su Mingli insisted.
Hu Mengmeng walked out with the fruit just in time to hear her mother promising a whole house. Her usually stingy mother—who calculated every cent of her allowance—was being incredibly generous!
Hu Mengmeng didn’t have much concept of wealth, but if her mother wanted to give, she wouldn’t object. However, it did make her realize she needed to start making money. Raising a child—especially a little demon—was going to be expensive. Ye Xinyu’s nutritional needs alone would be a huge expense. She couldn’t expect her mother to work herself to the bone to support them both.
Hu Mengmeng noticed Ye Xinyu looking a bit pale. “Are you alright? Is your stomach bothering you again?”
“A bit of discomfort,” Ye Xinyu admitted.
“The pregnancy is a heavy burden on her. I don’t know if you understand, but while the child is yours too, she is the one suffering the pain,” Huo Zhilan said, looking at Ye Xinyu with worry and then at Hu Mengmeng with a hint of resentment. No matter how naive the kid was, how could she have… well, this kid had certainly lucked out.
Since Ye Xinyu was willing to endure this to have the child, Aunt Lan couldn’t say much, but she intended to protect her from any further harm.
“Aunt Lan, I will take good care of her and the baby. Sister Ye, come rest in my room. I’ll help stabilize things for you,” Hu Mengmeng said, her heart aching at Ye Xinyu’s state.
She supported Ye Xinyu’s arm as they walked to her bedroom. In her human form, being this close to Ye Xinyu made Hu Mengmeng’s heart race. Ye Xinyu smelled wonderful—she couldn’t tell if it was perfume or natural. Her skin was translucent white and flawless. Her thin, curved brows were knit together in a look of stoic endurance.
Once inside, Hu Mengmeng closed the door and released her bloodline. Her blush faded, her curves shifted, and she moved with a sudden, swaying grace.
“Do you feel any better?” Hu Mengmeng asked as she began the stabilization technique.
Ye Xinyu didn’t speak; she just closed her eyes and gave a strained nod. She had no words for the fox clan’s “embarrassing” method of prenatal care. Hu Mengmeng outputted spiritual energy to soothe the restless little one. The supple feel of Ye Xinyu’s skin beneath her hands made her feel a bit restless herself.
As the flush on Ye Xinyu’s face deepened, she bit her lip—a sight that made Hu Mengmeng’s heart skip a beat. She felt a sudden impulse to kiss those lips. Her fox spirit side seemed much more “attracted to beauty” than her human side.
The agreement said no extra physical contact aside from stabilization. Don’t make a fool of yourself, she reminded herself.
“That’s enough!” Ye Xinyu said, catching Hu Mengmeng’s wrist.
“Then rest for a bit. I’ll call you when the food is ready,” Hu Mengmeng said, deciding it was best to keep her distance.
In the kitchen, Su Mingli saw the red string around Hu Mengmeng’s neck and pulled her aside.
“Mengmeng, listen to me. You’re marrying Xinyu now. Your heart should only be for her and the child. If you’re still thinking about that Lin Yuanya, I’ll break your legs! Stop wearing this bell. How would Xinyu feel if she saw it?”
“I know, Mom. I saved her at the river; we’re even now. I’ll return it to her later. We’re just classmates,” Hu Mengmeng said, her gaze darkening as she untied the bell and stuffed it into her pocket. Her devotion to Lin Yuanya had been based on childhood memories, but Lin Yuanya’s coldness at the training hall had broken the last of her obsession.
Su Mingli sighed. “A girl like Xinyu having your baby… I don’t know what good deeds you did in your past life to deserve this! Now hurry up and help me chop this chicken!”
Lunch was light and appetizing, but Ye Xinyu still had little appetite.
“This is just the early stage,” Su Mingli said after cleaning up. “Later there will be morning sickness. I remember back then, your fox mother ran hundreds of miles into the mountains to pick spiritual fruits for me. I couldn’t cultivate, so she had to transfer the energy to me herself. You should supplement her with spiritual foods—fruits, wild rabbits, bullfrogs, lizards… anything that hasn’t developed intelligence but carries spiritual energy. I’ll make a list of what I ate and some precautions. Otherwise, that little thing will wreck her health.”
“I got it, Mom,” Hu Mengmeng nodded seriously. It sounded like her fox mother had been very good to Su Mingli.
“Auntie, I’d like to take Mengmeng home this afternoon to meet my grandfather. I won’t stay longer today. My grandfather has a bit of a temper, so I’ll take her alone first and we can all gather another day,” Ye Xinyu said.
As they left, Huo Zhilan asked, “Mengmeng, since Xinyu can’t take commissions while pregnant, would you be willing to join the Ye family’s demon-hunting team?”
“No, no! I don’t know how to hunt demons!” Hu Mengmeng waved her hands frantically. In her human state, she still remembered her demon side’s hatred for hunters. She would never hunt her own kind.
Just as she spoke—BAM! Something slammed into the car, sending it swerving violently toward a concrete barrier.
