Married the Second Generation Fox Demon with a Baby in a Flash Marriage - Chapter 26
Huo Zhilan gripped the steering wheel, narrowly swerving past the concrete barrier. The violent jolt threw Ye Xinyu forward, but she was caught and buffered by Hu Mengmeng, who had reacted instantly, before the seatbelt could snap her back against the seat.
“Xinyu, are you okay?” Huo Zhilan stabilized the car’s path and asked the girl in the back.
Hu Mengmeng had already released her bloodline. She pressed her hand against Ye Xinyu’s abdomen to sense the situation; the little one’s fluctuations were slightly rapid, but it was safe for now.
“Aunt Lan, I’m fine. There are demons—more than one. They’re Gnawing Rabbits!” Ye Xinyu said, her brow furrowing.
Outside, five or six grey rabbits the size of German Shepherds, with long sharp incisors and huge ears, were ramming into the car with blood-red eyes and suicidal ferocity.
They were heading toward the Ye family’s ancestral estate, so the road was quite secluded. With no other vehicles around, the oversized rabbits continued to ram the car like they were possessed. They were incredibly fast; even as Huo Zhilan accelerated, they kept pace. One jumped onto the roof, thumping against the metal with heavy thuds, making the vehicle sway dangerously.
“Aunt Lan, stop the car! Since you won’t hunt or kill demons, I will!” Ye Xinyu said grimly. She pulled a long box from under the seat, containing the Evil-Slayer Sword. “These are mindless Gnawing Rabbits. They are faster than sports cars. If this keeps up, we’ll all die. If we stop and let them surround us to force the doors, and we don’t kill them, they’ll chew us down to the bone!”
Ye Xinyu could sense the demons outside, and Hu Mengmeng could too—beings of roiling black energy and malice. Hearing Ye Xinyu’s plan, Hu Mengmeng held her back.
How could she let a pregnant Ye Xinyu fight such vicious creatures!
She had just said she wouldn’t harm her own kind, but looking at these huge rabbits with their hollow, murderous eyes—looking ready to swallow them alive—Hu Mengmeng refused to acknowledge them as “kin.”
There was no time to worry about her earlier words.
“I’ll do it!” Hu Mengmeng said. Without another word, she kicked one of the doors open with a bang, slamming it into a rabbit that was scratching at the side.
She stepped out and shut the door behind her, dragging a rabbit down from the roof. Although it was her first time facing such savage demons, she felt no fear. On the contrary, she felt a surge of excitement, and her eyes began to glow with a red light.
Rabbits, after all, were food for foxes.
As Hu Mengmeng radiated her fox spirit aura, the Gnawing Rabbits seemed to hesitate, backing away a few steps before baring their teeth and lunging again. Hu Mengmeng’s nails lengthened into lethal claws; she leaped up, swatting one down with every strike.
These were merely low-level demons, devoid of intelligence and naturally savage. However, they had their advantages: agility, speed, and a total lack of fear. But they were facing Hu Mengmeng, a fox demon who was faster, more powerful, and possessed a much higher cultivation level. As they lunged, she dodged with fluid grace, landing a claw strike on each one without letting them touch her.
The rabbits charged back like madmen. Hu Mengmeng had no choice but to snap their necks one by one as they came. In a short while, they were all sprawled on the ground, motionless.
Inside the car, Ye Xinyu retracted the talismans she had been holding. Outside the window, the girl who had just insisted on not harming her own kind was now behaving like a natural-born hunter—precise, swift, and decisive in finishing off the minor demons.
Are demons truly born for battle? Ye Xinyu wondered.
Huo Zhilan watched, dumbfounded. Back at the apartment, Hu Mengmeng was a sweet, obedient girl, but seeing her transformed into a vixen was an entirely different story. That figure, those looks, and that combat prowess—it would be a waste if she didn’t join the Ye family. If she helped Ye Xinyu, Xinyu wouldn’t have to work so hard, and her Primal Yin wouldn’t have gone to waste.
While Aunt Lan was pondering, Hu Mengmeng finished the last one. She didn’t get back into the car; instead, she tilted her head to listen to the surroundings. After a moment, she scooped up one of the dead rabbits and hurled it toward the brush. A much larger Gnawing Rabbit suddenly bolted out and fled toward the roadside slope.
Hu Mengmeng, her predatory blood up, leaped after it. She was twice as fast as the giant rabbit. With a few bounds, she landed on its back. The rabbit, the size of a small calf, thrashed wildly, trying to shake her off while emitting beastly roars and snapping its front teeth. It was more vicious than a lion or a leopard.
Hu Mengmeng gripped its neck from behind and delivered several powerful punches to the back of its skull. It let out a few shrill cries before falling silent. Red light flashed in Hu Mengmeng’s eyes as she hauled the dead giant rabbit back up the slope.
Ye Xinyu was stunned. Even she would have been wary of that rabbit—it was strong and fast. Without the aid of formations or talismans, it surely would have escaped her.
“Why are these minor demons appearing in human territory?” Hu Mengmeng asked as she tossed the rabbit in front of the car and looked at Ye Xinyu, who had stepped out.
“I suspect it was intentional,” Ye Xinyu said, her face dark. “A coordinated attack on a specific target isn’t something mindless demons do. This large one had a trace of intelligence; it was likely the leader. They were coming for me.”
“Who?” Hu Mengmeng asked.
“The Ye family has many enemies, both human and demon. I can’t say for sure. I don’t know if anyone has sensed my pregnancy, but people certainly know I was injured. They’re trying to strike while I’m vulnerable. Thank you for today.”
Hu Mengmeng’s expression turned grim. She had to protect Ye Xinyu and the baby. If demons or bad people came, how could she not protect them?
“Xinyu, I’ve called people to collect these rabbits. They’re too big to be seen by the public,” Huo Zhilan said, stepping out of the car.
“Yes, get them cleared quickly. Six of them—quite a significant move,” Ye Xinyu noted.
“Why are you taking the rabbits?” Hu Mengmeng asked.
“One goes to the Ye family research institute, one to the government, and the rest will be sold to the Talisman or Tool Sects. Demon hide and blood are useful to them,” Huo Zhilan explained.
“Keep the big one,” Hu Mengmeng said. “It’s full of spiritual energy. It can help nourish Ye Xinyu’s body.”
“What?! Eat the rabbit?” Ye Xinyu looked at Hu Mengmeng in disbelief.
“Eat the meat, drink the bone broth. It’s good for the fetus,” Hu Mengmeng insisted.
“I don’t eat demons!” Ye Xinyu waved her hand. She had killed countless demons, but she had never eaten one.
“Why not? Are you a vegetarian?” Hu Mengmeng asked.
“No, but demons eat humans; humans don’t eat demons. Once spiritual energy is processed by a demon, it becomes chaotic—it’s not pure energy anymore and does little good for the human body. Besides, only raw meat has much energy; once cooked, it’s mostly gone. Demon meat is usually very gamey; it’s better to just eat normal animal meat,” Ye Xinyu argued. The idea of eating a demon felt repulsive.
“Don’t worry, I know how to cook it. My mom probably does too; she ate this kind of thing when she was pregnant with me. For a fox cub in your belly, this kind of rodent-like demon meat is a high-grade tonic. It’s a gift delivered to our door. My stabilization only handles the spiritual energy supply, but it can’t guarantee nutritional intake. If you don’t eat, the little one might be malnourished. Certain nutrients can’t be found in ordinary animals.”
“…” Ye Xinyu wanted to refuse, but thinking of the child, she opened her mouth and then closed it, silent.
“People are coming. Pile the rabbits by the car to hide them, and let’s get inside,” Ye Xinyu said, noticing headlights in the distance.
Hu Mengmeng dragged the rabbits over and hopped back into the car. She smelled of blood, and her clothes were stained. Once inside the confined space, Ye Xinyu covered her mouth, looking like she might be sick.
“I’ll go out,” Hu Mengmeng said.
“No, I’ll go. My people will be here soon. Take off your clothes and wear mine for now,” Ye Xinyu said, handing her a spare set of sportswear before stepping back out.
“Xinyu, what do you plan to do?” Huo Zhilan asked outside.
“Keep the largest one and send it to the villa at Fengjing Court. Let’s see how she handles it,” Ye Xinyu frowned. The thought of eating a Gnawing Rabbit felt like eating a monkey or a pig’s brain—she couldn’t stomach the thought. But if the little one needed it, what else could she do?
The cleanup crew arrived ten minutes later. They calmly loaded the rabbits into a pickup truck, covered them with a tarp, and left.
Back in the car, Hu Mengmeng had changed into the sportswear. Since her bloodline was still released, the clothes fit her quite snugly.
“Aunt Lan, let’s go to the Yufeng Hotel first. Hu Mengmeng needs a shower and a change of clothes,” Ye Xinyu said. If she was to meet Grandpa, she had to look presentable.
“What size are you in your human form?” Ye Xinyu asked.
“174cm tall, my measurements are…” Hu Mengmeng listed them. To meet the grandfather, she definitely had to suppress the bloodline. After hearing the numbers, Ye Xinyu pulled up her phone to pick out an outfit.
“Is this one okay?”
“Isn’t it too pink? I can just wear whatever,” Hu Mengmeng said. She liked seeing other girls in pink, but she rarely wore it herself.
“You’re meeting Grandpa. You should dress ‘softer.’ Otherwise, he’ll be very stern.”
“Uh, okay then.”
Ye Xinyu ordered the outfit. “Hu Mengmeng, send your bank details to Aunt Lan.”
“Why?”
“You just killed six demons, didn’t you?” Huo Zhilan explained from the driver’s seat. “One is for Xinyu, but the others will be sold. This was your work, so the money belongs to you.”
“How much are we talking about?”
“Six demons. If reported to the government based on their combat power, the small ones are 50,000 each, and the large one is 100,000. Selling to the sects might get you more—maybe 70,000 to 80,000 for the small ones and 150,000 for the big one.”
“That much?!” Hu Mengmeng was stunned.
“It’s not that much,” Ye Xinyu added. “These were just minor demons. Demon hunters can handle the spoils of their commissions themselves. It’s a high-risk, high-income profession. As you saw, not all demons are good. These creatures are dangerous to human society; if they hit a crowded area, many would die. Demon hunters exist to maintain peace; we don’t kill the innocent.”
