Married the Second Generation Fox Demon with a Baby in a Flash Marriage - Chapter 31
Shen Yuexi followed Hu Mengmeng at a distance, careful not to be discovered. She saw her enter the campus supermarket and followed her in, but Hu Mengmeng’s presence vanished instantly. No matter how much Shen focused her senses, every trace of her scent and aura was gone, as if she had disappeared into thin air.
She must have a way to mask her aura, Shen thought. She waited for a while without sensing anything, but then she saw the human-form Hu Mengmeng walk out with her backpack.
Hu Mengmeng had retrieved her bag from the storage locker and suppressed her bloodline in the restroom while changing. Naturally, Shen Yuexi could sense nothing now. Since the supermarket was for students, Shen didn’t pay the girl much mind.
With her senses dulled in human form, Hu Mengmeng didn’t notice Shen Yuexi in the corner. She headed back to Ye Xinyu’s villa.
Using the passcode Ye Xinyu had given her, Hu Mengmeng entered the quiet house. She didn’t see Ye Xinyu, nor did she look for her. She went to the kitchen, took out a box of plastic-wrapped meat from the fridge, and left quietly. Like a spy, she repeated her routine: changing clothes and unsealing her bloodline before returning to Shen Yuexi.
“You’re fast. This Gnawing Rabbit meat is very fresh and the spiritual energy is abundant. It was killed recently, and this wasn’t just some low-level grunt. Not bad. I’m the one getting the better end of this deal. Take the peaches, box and all,” Shen Yuexi said, relieved to see Hu Mengmeng return and satisfied with the trade.
“Thanks, Sister Shen. I won’t stay long. I’ll come see you another day.” Hu Mengmeng was in a good mood after getting the peaches and said her goodbyes.
“Give me your contact info. I’ll reach out when my friend gets back.”
“Uh, I don’t have a phone right now. Give me your number, and I’ll call you once I get a new one.” Hu Mengmeng knew Shen already had her human social media and phone number. To contact her as a fox demon, she’d need a completely different line.
“Fine. Little Fox, don’t you dare just vanish on me. It’s not every day Sister finds someone of her own kind.”
“I won’t. I feel a real connection to you too, Sister Shen. I still have a lot to learn from you,” Hu Mengmeng said sweetly, playing the part of the innocent junior.
“Why don’t you just stay here with me? We could keep each other company,” Shen Yuexi suggested, her eyes overflowing with flirtatious charm.
“That wouldn’t be very convenient. I have a partner traveling with me. I really have to go, but I’ll contact you as soon as I get a phone,” Hu Mengmeng said. Seeing Shen Yuexi’s suggestive look and mating signals, she decided to mention she was taken. She knew about fox charm arts; she wasn’t sure if she could resist if Shen Yuexi actually used them on her.
“I see. Remember to call me,” Shen Yuexi said, sounding disappointed. She didn’t actually care if the girl had a partner; she was looking for a mate for the heat season, not a lover. A prime specimen like this little fox was bound to have a partner anyway.
Shen Yuexi watched her leave but decided to follow her one more time. Once again, she didn’t see the fox form, but instead saw the “student” Hu Mengmeng emerge from the supermarket area and walk away.
Such a coincidence? Didn’t that kid just go in? Shen Yuexi felt a flicker of suspicion, but there wasn’t a trace of fox aura on Hu Mengmeng; she seemed entirely human. Shen noted the anomaly but didn’t act on it yet.
Back at the villa, Hu Mengmeng unsealed her bloodline with a sigh of relief. She put the Crystal Spiritual Peaches in the fridge. Her clothes were far too tight, so she changed into a loose tracksuit before washing a peach to take to Ye Xinyu.
The Crystal Spiritual Peach looked like a normal peach but felt as bouncy as jelly. The flesh was translucent like crystal, with wisps of spiritual energy swirling inside. It made Hu Mengmeng’s mouth water, but she resisted, wanting to save them for Ye Xinyu and the little one.
She knocked on Ye Xinyu’s door. After a long wait, Ye Xinyu opened it.
“What is it?” Hu Mengmeng asked, noticing how pale she was.
Ye Xinyu tried to speak but suddenly covered her mouth and bolted for the bathroom. Hu Mengmeng dropped the peach and followed. She found Ye Xinyu leaning over the sink, dry-heaving. This cold, refined woman looked so wretched that it made Hu Mengmeng’s heart ache.
“Is it morning sickness?” Hu Mengmeng rubbed her back and transferred some spiritual energy to soothe the little one.
“Mm.” After rinsing her mouth, Ye Xinyu looked exhausted. Her jade-like skin was deathly pale.
Hu Mengmeng softened her attitude and tried to help her to the sofa, but Ye Xinyu waved her off, straightened her back, and walked out coldly on her own. Hu Mengmeng followed, pouting.
“Do you want me to help stabilize the baby?”
“I’m fine. I just need to regulate my breathing,” Ye Xinyu sat on the sofa.
“Fine. Do it yourself then,” Hu Mengmeng turned to grab the peach.
Ye Xinyu’s brow furrowed. She didn’t hear the sound of the bell. She had intentionally let Hu Mengmeng keep it as a safety measure. If Hu Mengmeng had any ill intentions, Ye Xinyu could complete the seal and force her into a contract. Yesterday, she might have finished the half-completed contract if she hadn’t been so physically weak and “charmed.”
The warning that Hu Mengmeng shouldn’t force her hand wasn’t a joke. Now that the bell was silent, where had it gone?
“These are Crystal Spiritual Peaches I bought. They help with appetite and nutrition. I traded some Gnawing Rabbit meat for them,” Hu Mengmeng said, presenting the peach like a treasure.
Ye Xinyu looked at the translucent fruit but didn’t reach for it. She had eaten the rabbit meat because it was specially prepared by Hu and Su, and she endured the “demon meat” for the baby’s sake. But after this morning’s sickness, the thought of eating a savage creature made her want to gag.
She had tried these peaches before; she couldn’t digest them well and they had given her an upset stomach. Even as a cultivator, her stomach wasn’t as advanced as a demon’s. In the human world, the Alchemy Sect specialized in processing such plants for human consumption. Raw, they were a burden. To have Hu Mengmeng help her absorb them would mean repeating yesterday’s “embarrassing” intimacy.
Just having Hu Mengmeng sit next to her made her feel weak. Her mind projected coldness, but her body shamefully wanted to lean closer.
“Wait a moment,” Ye Xinyu closed her eyes and sat cross-legged to regulate her breathing. Hu Mengmeng didn’t disturb her, instead using her spiritual energy to prevent the peach’s energy from dissipating.
After a while, Ye Xinyu opened her eyes. Hu Mengmeng immediately held out the peach.
“Hu Mengmeng… you took the bell back at the river that night, didn’t you?” Ye Xinyu asked casually.
She had softened toward Hu Mengmeng because of their childhood bond and her own irresistible love for fluffy things. But what did Hu Mengmeng think of her? Without the bell, she lacked a crucial defensive measure. If Hu Mengmeng acted up like she did yesterday, Ye Xinyu would be defenseless.
“The bell was mine to begin with. I wore it for over ten years,” Hu Mengmeng said, confused by the sudden question.
“Then why aren’t you wearing it now?” Ye Xinyu asked, smelling the peach’s fragrance. Hearing she had worn it for ten years moved her slightly; it meant she still held their past in some regard.
“I threw it away! I’m not a pet, why should I wear a bell?” Hu Mengmeng scoffed, her expression turning cynical and cold.
She had loved that bell, but it was tied to a person who had just utterly disappointed her. After the confrontation with Lin Yuanya, Hu Mengmeng felt only a piercing betrayal. She had repaid that debt, and she was done with Lin Yuanya.
“Threw it away? Wasn’t it given to you by someone important?” Ye Xinyu looked down.
“Important? Heh, don’t misunderstand. I don’t even remember who gave it to me. I was just stupid to wear it for ten years. Now that my bloodline is unsealed, I finally understand. Anyway, why talk about that? Eat it before the energy dissipates!”
“I’m not eating it!” Ye Xinyu’s face turned icy as she shoved the peach back.
“What’s wrong? You think I poisoned it? A human stomach can’t handle this fruit, so I have to help you absorb it. The little one in you is a demon; it wants what a demon wants to eat.”
“Your ‘method’ is useless, and I don’t like it!” Ye Xinyu snapped. She’d rather find a way to contact the Alchemists.
“You don’t trust me? I told you, I’m just helping you! Or are you afraid you can’t resist me?!” Hu Mengmeng’s voice was flirtatious, but her tone was cold with anger. She had rushed back, skipping the fruit herself to give it to Ye Xinyu, only to be met with this attitude.
“I want to rest. Get out.”
“Ye Xinyu, what is wrong with you now?” Hu Mengmeng was truly angry.
“Out!” Ye Xinyu’s eyes were like ice. If Hu Mengmeng had her bloodline sealed, she would have been terrified, but right now she just felt hurt.
“Fine!” Hu Mengmeng glared at her for a second, grabbed the peach, and stormed out.
She doesn’t trust me! She doesn’t want me to touch her! Hu Mengmeng felt like she was going to explode with rage.
