Married the Second Generation Fox Demon with a Baby in a Flash Marriage - Chapter 37
In the room, Tao Tao was terrified, her body shaking uncontrollably as she sobbed. It took a long while for Hu Mengmeng and Su Mingli to comfort her and steady her emotions.
“Mengmeng, I’m sorry, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have kept feeding you to make you so fat…” Tao Tao sobbed.
“It wasn’t your fault, I was just too greedy. Stop thinking about the past; that demon no longer exists. There are good and bad demons. Your demon used to be bad, but now its evil consciousness is gone, and it’s controlled by a good person, so it’s fine. That Sister Gu is very powerful—she’s a demon hunter!” Hu Mengmeng told her.
“A demon hunter? Really?” Tao Tao’s eyes widened.
“Yes, otherwise how could she subdue it? Don’t be afraid. Now you are just yourself. It will never control you again.”
Tao Tao felt a sense of security. She knew about demon hunters; they were what the demon inside her feared most! Though she believed Hu Mengmeng, she could still feel the demon attached to her body—a cold, slimy, disgusting sensation that made her whole body uncomfortable.
“Mengmeng, since demon hunters are so powerful, can she drive this demon away? It’s on my body, it feels awful!” Tao Tao pleaded.
“Tao Tao, driving it away completely is impossible. Listen to me…” Hu Mengmeng carefully explained what Gu Yiying had told her. “We can try to confine it to one place. Let’s ask Sister Gu to help with that.”
As Hu Mengmeng spoke, Ye Xinyu and Gu Yiying finished their conversation outside and entered.
“Sister Gu, please help me, I feel so sick!” Tao Tao looked at Gu Yiying as if she were a savior, her eyes full of hope.
“I will help you. Just wait. First, I need to ask you something; answer truthfully.” Gu Yiying looked at the girl crying like a rain-drenched flower and felt she had been tricked by Ye Xinyu. Could this really be a “promising recruit”?
“Ask anything, I’ll tell the truth,” Tao Tao said.
“A parasite demon cannot latch on without a human’s permission. I want to know: why did you agree to let it in?” Gu Yiying asked. She knew people with psychological vulnerabilities were the easiest to control.
“Two years ago… Mengmeng was sick and didn’t go to school. I went alone and tripped. I couldn’t get up, and the passing students laughed at me. That’s when I met it. It looked like a dog. It said it could help me, help me stand up, heal my leg, if only… if only I touched it and let it help me. I didn’t want people to call me a cripple, and I didn’t want to keep bothering Mengmeng to take care of me…” Tao Tao lowered her head.
“Tao Tao, you were never a burden! It’s my fault for not being with you.” Hu Mengmeng felt a wave of self-reproach.
Ye Xinyu remained silent, looking down at the floor. Gu Yiying listened and understood; Tao Tao’s “flaw” was her leg, which wasn’t a character defect, just a vulnerability.
“Hu Mengmeng, you understood that silk cloth yesterday, right? I can command the demon’s body, but it’s dispersed through her. How do I retract it? Removing it isn’t an option, so the plan is to concentrate it in the leg,” Gu Yiying said.
“Okay, I’ll guide you while you do it. Tao Tao, hang in there; it might be uncomfortable,” Hu Mengmeng warned.
The parasite had used the methods on the cloth to spread its flesh; logically, the same method could be used to retract it. Hu Mengmeng explained the circulation paths and spiritual energy flow to Gu Yiying.
“I’m starting. Don’t cry, and don’t move,” Gu Yiying instructed.
While Hu Mengmeng’s fusion of fox and human blood was natural, Tao Tao’s situation was an invasive species using a distorted method. Retracting it was a painful process, like peeling flesh from bone. Tao Tao bit her lip, breaking into a cold sweat, but she stayed still and didn’t cry.
Su Mingli couldn’t bear to watch and went to prepare bath things. Ye Xinyu watched for a while before leaving to attend to her own business. After an hour, Gu Yiying finally sealed the demon entirely into Tao Tao’s leg. The leg, which had been withered to skin and bone, puffed up to a normal size, though the skin was a dark, bruised color.
“I’ve placed a spiritual barrier on your leg. It can only stay there now. The color is ugly because the demon hasn’t been purified yet. Little one, do you want to learn how to use spiritual energy and become a demon hunter? At the very least, you could turn your leg back to a normal color,” Gu Yiying said. Seeing how the girl endured the pain, she felt moved. Fine, I’ll take this “pitiable disciple.”
“I can learn?” Tao Tao asked in disbelief.
“Of course. I’m asking if you want to.”
“I do!” Tao Tao nodded vigorously. She wanted to be strong enough to never be controlled again.
“Good. From now on, call me Master,” Gu Yiying smiled.
“Master!”
Hu Mengmeng walked out and overheard Ye Xinyu and Gu Yiying talking.
“Xinyu, I took the disciple. But teaching and protecting her is a lot of trouble. Shouldn’t you give me some benefit for this?” Gu Yiying asked.
“I gave you a disciple with a high level of ready-made spiritual energy. You still want benefits?” Ye Xinyu replied flatly.
“Oh, by the way,” Ye Xinyu added as Gu Yiying was leaving. “Remember that girl who was bitten at the gala? It was her. If people come looking, you handle the aftermath.”
“What?! You’re infuriating! I should cover you in talismans!” Gu Yiying barked.
Hu Mengmeng instantly dashed out and stood in front of Ye Xinyu. “Sister Gu, if you want to stick talismans, stick them on me.”
Hu Mengmeng was moved. She realized Ye Xinyu had set everything up to help Tao Tao have a future and legal protection.
“Loyal, aren’t we? She isn’t even your contracted demon yet,” Gu Yiying teased.
“Sister Gu, helping Tao Tao is helping me. If you ever need anything, I’ll do my best to help you,” Hu Mengmeng promised.
“Why not just join the Gu family then?”
“No, I’m already a person of the Ye family,” Hu Mengmeng blurted out.
Ye Xinyu, hearing this, turned and walked back to her room. Hu Mengmeng hurried after her.
“Don’t follow me. You’re annoying,” Ye Xinyu threw over her shoulder.
“Old Ye is jealous,” Gu Yiying whispered to Hu Mengmeng. “She has a bit of a cleanliness obsession and a possessive streak. Look at how close you are with Tao Tao; in her eyes, you aren’t a ‘clean’ demon anymore. Tsk tsk.”
I’m… not clean? Hu Mengmeng was baffled, but she noted the comment.
Later that afternoon, Hu Mengmeng and Ye Xinyu headed to the Ye ancestral home for the formal apprenticeship. Hu Mengmeng returned to her human form—the “pure neighbor girl” look—feeling a bit shy.
As their car left the Fengjing Court villa area, a black myna bird took flight. It soon landed on a window on the fifth floor of a hotel and pecked at the glass.
“Master, Ye Xinyu is out. The old woman is driving. They’re heading toward the Ye estate. No demons or spiritual helpers are with them,” the bird spoke.
“Another chance. I don’t believe I can’t break you this time!” In the room, a man in a sharp suit—Ou Shixing—sneered as he dialed a number. “Move out. Black Eight will lead the way.”
