Married the Second Generation Fox Demon with a Baby in a Flash Marriage - Chapter 38
After the car started, Ye Xinyu buckled her seatbelt and leaned against the backrest to rest with her eyes closed. Hu Mengmeng wanted to speak to her but didn’t want to disturb her, so she simply watched from the side.
Having retracted her fox bloodline, Hu Mengmeng also retracted a portion of her coldness. Her sense of guilt and affection for Ye Xinyu grew deeper; looking at her, she felt a complex mix of emotions. She wondered when they would be able to restore the relationship they had as children. Back then, Ye Xinyu liked her very much and even said she wanted them to be together forever. But now, she had ruined it all!
Ye Xinyu still looked cold toward her. Hu Mengmeng figured this grudge wouldn’t vanish in a day or two, so she didn’t take it to heart.
The car was filled with a pleasant floral scent, making the air very fresh. However, because the car was in motion and not traveling at a perfectly constant speed, Ye Xinyu’s stomach felt unsettled; closing her eyes helped a little. After a while, however, the discomfort didn’t subside—it actually got worse, turning into nausea.
Ye Xinyu opened her eyes and reached for the box in the seat-back storage pocket. Seeing her reach out, Hu Mengmeng moved faster, handing her a water bottle. Suppressing her nausea with great effort, Ye Xinyu brushed the bottle aside and took out a reddish-brown pill, placing it in her mouth and covering her lips with her hand.
Because Ye Xinyu’s arm was raised, her sleeve slid down. Hu Mengmeng, who had been staring at her, caught sight of the scars on her forearm.
They were teeth marks—a ring of small punctures. Every scar was vivid, standing out starkly against her fair skin. Hu Mengmeng’s eyes instantly turned red. Huo Zhilan had mentioned the scars, but she hadn’t expected them to be so clear and savage after all these years. How much must it have hurt back then!
Ye Xinyu suppressed the urge to vomit and moved her hand away from her lips. She hadn’t intended to acknowledge Hu Mengmeng, but she sensed something was off. Turning her head, she saw Hu Mengmeng’s eyes welling with tears, her mouth turned down in a look of immense grievance.
Ye Xinyu’s heart softened inexplicably. She hadn’t meant to be so harsh just now. Her expression turned a bit awkward, and she opened her mouth to say something, but suddenly sensed an unusual aura.
“Demons!”
The moment the words left her mouth—BOOM! A massive impact sent the car rolling. The airbags deployed, and Hu Mengmeng’s fox bloodline unsealed simultaneously, wrapping around Ye Xinyu and Huo Zhilan to shield them.
The road they were on was flanked by a mountain on one side and a steep cliff-like slope on the other. This impact was significantly stronger than the Gnawing Rabbits from before; the car smashed through the barrier and tumbled down the slope.
“Jie-jie-jie-jie…” A sound like a beastly roar erupted. On the road, a creature manifested: a two-headed dog with upright ears, black fur, blood-red eyes, and razor-sharp teeth. It looked incredibly savage. Beside it stood three more two-headed dogs of similar appearance.
“Idiots! What’s the point if they’re dead? Get down there and catch them alive!” A black myna bird flapped its wings angrily, diving after the rolling car. The dogs followed, but after only a few steps, they saw a car door fly open mid-tumble. A streak of fiery red fur darted out with incredible speed, leaping back up toward the road.
“How can there be a Great Demon here?! Impossible!” The bird’s beady eyes widened in terror. The dogs began barking ferociously at the red blur.
This “red blur” was Hu Mengmeng.
“Gray Dogs!” Hu Mengmeng hissed through her teeth, her eyes turning a terrifying blood-red. Her tails had safely pulled Ye Xinyu and Huo Zhilan from the car. While the car would have been a death trap at the bottom of the slope, Hu Mengmeng’s protective embrace had saved them.
When they were children, a small Gray Dog had bitten Ye Xinyu because Hu Mengmeng was too small to protect her. Now, seeing these creatures trying to harm Ye Xinyu again, Hu Mengmeng’s suppressed hostility exploded. She carried the two women back to the road with lightning speed, setting them down gently.
“I’ll be right back,” Hu Mengmeng said to Ye Xinyu. She leaped down the slope, her body shifting mid-air into her full fox form. Her clothes were torn apart as her frame expanded, her aura growing significantly more powerful. Landing on all fours, she moved several times faster than before. Her fur was fiery red, except for her white belly, cheeks, and paws. Her long, bushy tails were tipped with white.
One Gray Dog lunged at her, but she intercepted it, her claws snapping both of its necks in an instant. She tore through the creature, blood staining the grass.
“You… all of you deserve to die!” Hu Mengmeng growled, her eyes glowing red. Noticing one dog trying to sneak toward Ye Xinyu, she pounced, pinning the creature—which was larger than herself—to the ground.
“A fox demon… such a savage fox demon!” The myna bird was so shocked it forgot to flap its wings, dropping several meters. Realizing the fight was lost, it turned to flee.
Hu Mengmeng had already marked the bird. With a predatory glint in her eyes, she leaped onto the head of one of the dogs as a springboard and launched herself into the sky, snatching the bird out of the air.
“Hu Mengmeng, keep that bird alive!” Ye Xinyu’s voice rang out, but she was a second too late. The bird was crushed in Hu Mengmeng’s grip and tossed aside.
Ye Xinyu watched from the road, her heart racing. She hadn’t expected Hu Mengmeng to transform into a complete fox form. This state was even more powerful than her hybrid form, but the “Baleful Qi” was heavy. Compared to the Gnawing Rabbits, these two-headed dogs were an entire tier higher in strength, yet Hu Mengmeng had completely dominated them. It was a swift, brutal slaughter.
“Hu Mengmeng, that’s enough! Come up!!” Seeing Hu Mengmeng still tearing at the carcasses with her claws, Ye Xinyu shouted again. When the fox didn’t respond, she threw down a golden talisman to snap her out of her bloodlust.
Stung by the golden light, Hu Mengmeng looked up toward Ye Xinyu. The violence in her amber-red eyes flickered and then vanished as she leaped back to the road.
The slope, once green, was now drenched in blood. The red of Hu Mengmeng’s fur looked even more vivid. The overwhelming scent of blood made Ye Xinyu gag as soon as the fox approached.
“Hu Mengmeng, change back to human form!” Ye Xinyu commanded, gripping a talisman. She felt that if Hu Mengmeng decided to treat her like those dogs, even all her talismans combined might not stop her.
Hu Mengmeng’s mind had been filled with killing intent; she felt like she had infinite strength and found the sight of blood exciting rather than scary. In her full fox state, she felt cold and emotionless. Only seeing Ye Xinyu brought her back to her senses—this was the person she must never hurt, the one she had to protect.
She switched her bloodline back.
The moment she changed, a chill hit her. She realized that because she had turned into a full-sized fox, her clothes had “exploded” and were gone. She was currently standing there completely naked.
Hu Mengmeng covered herself, shivering as she turned red from her ears to her toes. “Sister… um, I don’t have any clothes left…”
“Put on my coat,” Ye Xinyu said, turning her face away as she reached for her buttons.
“It’s cold, you keep yours. I’ll just change back into a fox,” Hu Mengmeng said. She automatically reverted, but this “full fox” form was different from the one she used for combat. While the combat form was a large, sleek war machine, this one was small—slightly larger than a cat but smaller than a dog. She was round, fluffy, and chubby, with big circular eyes and puffed-out cheeks. She looked incredibly cute.
Watching this little fluff-ball crouch at her feet and look up at her with big, innocent amber eyes, Ye Xinyu froze. This form is way too… adorable!
This was her ideal pet. Those fluffy cheeks, the twitching ears, the wagging tail—she desperately wanted to pet it. Ye Xinyu had been a “furry-con” since childhood; that’s why she had been so happy when she found Hu Mengmeng back then. She still remembered how good the fur felt.
However, Hu Mengmeng was still covered in the scent of blood. Ye Xinyu took one step forward and had to cover her nose.
“Xinyu, I’ve called for help; they’ll be here soon. Wait—is this Mengmeng?” Huo Zhilan turned around and was equally stunned.
“Some Great Demons can shift their size,” Ye Xinyu said, backing away slightly. Such a trait was determined by bloodline, not just cultivation. She wondered which specific fox tribe Hu Mengmeng belonged to.
Seeing Ye Xinyu back away, Hu Mengmeng thought she was being rejected. Her eyes filled with sadness and she let out a small whimper.
“Mengmeng is truly incredible. If not for her, we would have been in real trouble. We were careless; I didn’t think they’d strike again so soon. Do they think the Ye family is defenseless?!” Huo Zhilan said.
“The Ye family is running out of people,” Ye Xinyu said softly. With Hu Mengmeng, the family finally had someone who could hold the line—but was she reliable? The “Baleful Qi” from earlier was so heavy that if she were any other demon, Ye Xinyu would have considered killing her to prevent future trouble. But this was Hu Mengmeng.
Hu Mengmeng blinked and tilted her head. Ye Xinyu looked away. This fox is acting cute while smelling like a crime scene… does she want me to hold her?
The cleanup crew arrived and dealt with the carcasses while Ye Xinyu and Hu Mengmeng got into a new car.
“Aunt Lan, perfume. I can’t stand the smell,” Ye Xinyu said, covering her nose in the confined space. Hu Mengmeng finally understood why Ye Xinyu was keeping her distance. She could smell the blood too, but to her, it didn’t smell bad; in fact, it was almost pleasant.
Huo Zhilan brought perfume and a blanket. Ye Xinyu wrapped Hu Mengmeng in the blanket and sprayed her face with perfume until the metallic scent faded. Wrapped in the blanket with only her face showing, Hu Mengmeng’s large eyes were wide with a dazed expression. I’m being held by Sister Ye! The floral scent was everywhere, and it was so soft…
“Try to avoid that full form in the future,” Ye Xinyu said, her posture stiff as she held the fox. “That bird had intelligence. By killing it, you made it much harder for us to find the mastermind.”
“Sister, I know… I saw you almost get hurt and I got so angry I couldn’t control it,” Hu Mengmeng said. In this form, her voice was high and soft.
“I understand. Just remember for next time.”
They went to a Ye family hotel where Hu Mengmeng showered and changed into a new set of “soft pink” clothes prepared by Ye Xinyu. Then, they headed to the Ye estate.
“Grandpa, I’ve told Mengmeng about the family. She wants to join us. I’d like to accept her as a disciple on my mother’s behalf, so I can teach her our cultivation and techniques,” Ye Xinyu told her grandfather.
Hu Mengmeng was surprised. She wasn’t becoming Ye Xinyu’s disciple, but her mother’s—that made Ye Xinyu her Senior Sister!
“You’ve taken in many kids, but you never brought any to acknowledge your mother. Hmph, I suppose she’s lucky. Fine. One more person for the family,” the old man said, looking at the shy, human-form Hu Mengmeng.
In the ancestral hall, the ceremony was completed.
“Since the child has already established our generation gap, we can’t mess it up. You are my mother’s disciple, so call me Senior Sister. Take this manual; it contains our sect’s rules. Carry it with you and memorize it,” Ye Xinyu said formally, handing over a thread-bound book.
“Yes, Senior Sister!” Hu Mengmeng nodded eagerly. She was determined to protect Ye Xinyu and help her with commissions.
On the way back to the villa, Ye Xinyu explained the “Hidden Sects” to her. There were six major sects: the Sword Sect (Ye), Tool Sect (Ou), Talisman Sect (Gu), Array Sect (Liu), Alchemy Sect (Qi), and Mystic Sect (Gu/Ancient), plus the neutral Taoist Doctors (Shen).
“My mother is Gu Manru from the Talisman Sect. Gu Yiying is my cousin. My mother disappeared while hunting a demon when I was three. I believe she is still alive. The Ye family works with the government so we can use their resources to find her. That’s why we take government commissions even when the pay is low.”
“Sister, I’ll do my best to help find her,” Hu Mengmeng said. She felt a kinship; she also wanted to find her own fox mother.
Back at the villa, Hu Mengmeng stayed in her human form. “Sister Ye, I’ll take Tao Tao as my junior sister. We’ll all be demon hunters!”
Ye Xinyu led her upstairs. “I have a method for purifying spiritual energy. You need to be in your human form. I will guide your energy through the paths once so you can memorize it. This way, your energy will be pure and free of impurities.”
“Will it make you feel unwell to use your energy?”
“It’s just guidance, not a full technique. Pay attention, I’m only teaching you once!”
With Hu Mengmeng open and receptive, Ye Xinyu’s golden energy flowed smoothly through her body. Hu Mengmeng was talented; she entered a meditative state and began practicing the new cycle.
Meanwhile, in a private residence near the university, Gu Mingzhen was peeling grapes for Lin Yuanya.
“Xiaoya, Hu Mengmeng will definitely be expelled. There’s a crackdown right now, and with the evidence I have, she’ll be thrown in jail. She won’t be able to talk her way out of this.”
“Good. Do it quickly! I don’t want to see her at school ever again!” Lin Yuanya said, clutching a pink doll.
“Don’t worry. We’ll do it tomorrow night. By the day after, she’ll be gone!”
