My Omega Is A Top Heavenly Master (GL) - Chapter 1
Summer was inherently sweltering, let alone in a city as scorching as Hu City. Even in winter, people here walked around in short sleeves and shorts.
The dilapidated little car, lacking air conditioning, felt exceptionally stuffy. Mu Baicheng’s tank top was completely soaked with sweat. Even with all four windows rolled down, the oppressive heat didn’t recede.
The vehicle gradually moved from the bustling downtown area toward the old town, where high-rises were scarce. A green light began to flicker ahead. Before she could hit the gas, the timer showed only three seconds left. She slammed on the brakes, and fortunately, the car came to a halt just before the crosswalk.
“Just my luck,” Mu Baicheng muttered, wiping beads of sweat from her neck. But the sweat seemed to be working against her, trickling from her forehead down her fair jawline and into her collar. Feeling sticky all over, she tied her long hair up in a few quick motions to keep herself from looking too disheveled.
The radio, which had been playing normally, suddenly went on strike. A harsh static sound told Mu Baicheng it was quitting.
“You’ve got to be kidding me.” Mu Baicheng slapped the radio. She had just spent two hundred yuan to fix this thing—why was it acting up again?
The signal light changed. Mu Baicheng suppressed the urge to curse, mentally noting to give the radio shop owner a hard time tomorrow. She had just shifted into gear and hadn’t even fully released the brake when a white figure plummeted from the sky.
With a loud BANG, the white figure slammed straight onto Mu Baicheng’s hood. The metal crumpled under the impact, instantly declaring Mu Baicheng’s second-hand Xiali car a total loss.
Startled, Mu Baicheng threw open the car door and stared blankly at the white figure. It was a woman—more specifically… a female Omega, dressed in Hanfu.
In this world, besides the two biological sexes, there were three secondary genders: Alpha, Beta, and Omega. Alphas and Omegas were differentiated later in life; even if their primary sexes were the same, different secondary genders could produce offspring. In fact, one’s secondary gender was considered more significant than the first.
Mu Baicheng was an Alpha, but she was born with a defective gland. She couldn’t smell pheromones. Yet, at this very moment, a scent of gardenias soaked in peach blossom wine told her that the person before her was an Omega. Mu Baicheng could smell her clearly.
Mu Baicheng pinched her own arm and looked around nervously. The area was surrounded by low, old houses; there was nothing at this intersection but a few utility poles.
“What do I do?” Mu Baicheng said, biting her nails. How was she supposed to explain this to the traffic police? Was she supposed to say, “Sir, I didn’t hit her; this Omega lady just fell from the sky and smashed my car”? The cop would probably think she was insane.
Mu Baicheng swallowed hard and leaned toward the hood, gently shaking the Omega. “Miss? Miss?”
There was no movement. Mu Baicheng’s heart sank. Damn, did this celestial being stop breathing? Now it would be even harder to explain.
Girding her loins, Mu Baicheng reached out to brush the hair away from the Omega’s face. An exquisite countenance was revealed. The moment she saw the Omega’s face, Mu Baicheng froze. This Omega possessed a face that was excessively beautiful.
A line of poetry somehow drifted into her mind: “The fragrant mist dampens her clouded tresses, the clear moonlight chills her jade-like arms.” [1] Just like the poem, the Omega was slender, with jet-black hair spilling over her back like seaweed.
Mu Baicheng reached her hand toward the Omega’s nose to check for breath. Suddenly, the Omega snapped her eyes open. Those eyes were as cold and aloof as a winter moon. The moment their gaze met, Mu Baicheng felt the summer heat being forcibly driven away by that look.
“You’re awake?” Mu Baicheng asked tentatively, her heart drumming.
The Omega stared straight at her, her gaze calm and rippleless, yet carrying a faint, underlying killing intent. Seeing that the Omega didn’t speak, Mu Baicheng assumed she had hit her head. She steadied her by the shoulders and asked, “Are you okay? You’re so young, why would you…”
Mu Baicheng paused. That didn’t seem right. There were no high-rises here, yet this lady had fallen from the sky. Was it a suicide jump? Mu Baicheng asked herself, but the logic didn’t track.
She scratched her head. Although she was a “half-baked” practitioner, she was still technically a Taoist priest. This was the most bizarre thing she had encountered in her entire career.
The Omega’s sharp gaze dropped to the “claws” Mu Baicheng had placed on her shoulders. After a long silence, the Omega narrowed her eyes and looked at her own hands with a complex expression.
Her behavior was strange; after examining her own hands, she looked at Mu Baicheng’s hands.
“Are you alright?” Mu Baicheng asked with concern.
The Omega looked up and suddenly grabbed Mu Baicheng’s hand. Her hand was somewhat cold, pressing into Mu Baicheng’s sweaty palm.
Mu Baicheng tried to pull away in a panic; she had never been this close to the opposite gender before. What is she doing? Her heart hammered like a drum. The Omega suddenly leaned in close, her calm eyes gazing intensely into Mu Baicheng’s face.
The Omega tilted her head and threw her arms around Mu Baicheng’s neck. Her voice was soft, yet it possessed the chilly clarity of moonlight:
“My Alpha.”
Mu Baicheng’s body froze. She never imagined things would take such a turn. How did it end up like this?
“Miss, please don’t just call people that.” Mu Baicheng tried to pry the Omega off, but the lady wouldn’t cooperate. Instead, she hugged tighter, eventually hanging onto Mu Baicheng entirely.
The Omega felt cool to the touch. Being clung to didn’t make Mu Baicheng feel hot; instead, it felt quite comfortable. Still, Mu Baicheng knew this couldn’t continue.
This lady had fallen from the sky and clearly wasn’t in her right mind. It was best to take her to the police station.
Having made up her mind, Mu Baicheng called the insurance company to tow the car and took the Omega to the station in a taxi. The fifteen-yuan taxi fare made Mu Baicheng’s heart ache the whole way—that was her food budget for the day!
“My Alpha,” the Omega repeated, burying her small face in the crook of Mu Baicheng’s neck.
I’m doing the right thing, Mu Baicheng thought, her heartache instantly vanishing. This lady was the real trouble. When she paid the driver, she didn’t miss his look.
The driver’s eyes clearly said: Are you a human trafficker? Mu Baicheng rolled her eyes at him and pointed to the glowing sign of the police station behind her. Have you ever seen a trafficker deliver their victim directly to the police?
She thought the “trafficker” misunderstanding was over, but the same look appeared when she met the local officer.
The young policewoman looked suspiciously back and forth between the two. This Alpha was good-looking—a “strong-featured” mature beauty—though she looked a bit disheveled. But this Omega was so beautiful she looked like a fairy. Most importantly, the Omega barely spoke. No matter how you looked at it… it looked like a kidnapping.
The officer was stern with Mu Baicheng but flashed a kind smile at the Omega. “What’s your name?”
The disparity in treatment made Mu Baicheng roll her eyes internally. Omegas really did have it easy in this world, even if the officer was a Beta.
“Qin Xiyao,” the Omega answered. Her tone was flat, sounding almost like a digital smart speaker.
The officer nodded, her smile vanishing as she turned to Mu Baicheng. “And you? Name? Occupation? Home address? When is your rut? Have you done anything inappropriate to Miss Qin?”
The barrage of questions made Mu Baicheng’s lip twitch. So you’re gentle with the Omega and like this with me? You really do think I’m a villain.
Mu Baicheng pursed her lips and patiently answered the questions.
“What is your relationship?”
Mu Baicheng shook her head, about to say they had no relation, when Qin Xiyao grabbed her arm and snuggled into her chest. “My Alpha.”
“Heh.” The officer let out a cold laugh, nearly snapping her pen. So you two are playing with me? It’s the middle of the night and I have to eat “dog food” (witness PDA)? Ugh, such a beautiful Omega is already taken. What about me, single all these years?
“I—I—no… we aren’t…” Mu Baicheng scrambled to explain.
Qin Xiyao reached up and covered her mouth. “You don’t want me anymore?”
Although Qin Xiyao didn’t act “pitiful,” when a beauty like her says something like that to your face, no one can remain unmoved—including Mu Baicheng.
The officer angrily slammed her notebook shut. “Fine. Don’t bring your lover’s quarrels to the station. Careful, or I’ll cite you for wasting public resources.”
The officer recorded their names and described them as a couple. Mu Baicheng had no choice but to take Qin Xiyao home.
Mu Baicheng lived in a small apartment in an old residential area. Calling it an “apartment” was generous. The kitchen was in the public corridor outside the unit door, and with a bathroom barely big enough to stand in, the whole place was less than twenty square meters.
In the cramped space, there was only a simple bed and a battered desk covered in books on Feng Shui, physiognomy, and the I Ching. Aside from that, there was only a 50-inch suitcase by the bed.
After closing the door and looking at Qin Xiyao’s Hanfu, Mu Baicheng pulled a large T-shirt from her suitcase and handed it over.
“Go take a shower first. You can pay me back once you have money.”
Qin Xiyao took the clothes, tilted her head at her, and then scanned the tiny apartment. Mu Baicheng realized she was asking how to shower.
Resigned, Mu Baicheng led her to the tiny bathroom and showed her how to operate everything. Fortunately, Qin Xiyao caught on quickly.
Mu Baicheng breathed a sigh of relief. Qin Xiyao’s comprehension was fine. She wasn’t exactly “dim-witted,” but her flat tone was strange. Perhaps she had some secret troubles?
Mu Baicheng lay on the bed, thinking about how she found Qin Xiyao. Falling from the sky… could she have traveled from another world?
Only a theory like that could satisfy Mu Baicheng. She sighed inwardly. Whatever, I’ll take it one step at a time. If she really is a traveler, she must be terrified being in a strange world.
Her thoughts were a jumble. The old fan provided a precious bit of cool air in the summer night. Mu Baicheng closed her eyes and slowly drifted off.
She didn’t sleep soundly. The old fan was weak and couldn’t satisfy an Alpha’s need for coolness in peak summer, especially since Mu Baicheng was naturally prone to running hot. That was, until a body as cool as jade slid into her arms. In her sleep, Mu Baicheng instinctively hugged the source of cooling relief.
In the darkness, Qin Xiyao’s eyes turned cold. Her black pupils instantly transformed into silver, looking at the sleeping Mu Baicheng with unabashed hatred.
Her cool, slender fingers brushed against the Alpha’s defenseless neck. Qin Xiyao’s expression was complex. Her fingers stayed at the throat for a full ten minutes.
The silver in her eyes faded, returning to black. Her fair, icy fingertips lifted the hem of the Alpha’s wide shirt, and her cool body slid underneath. In an instant, the two bodies were pressed together, inseparable…
