My Omega Is A Top Heavenly Master (GL) - Chapter 6
“Huh?” Liu Suhong thought she had misheard. Someone in this day and age didn’t have an ID card? She asked uncertainly, “You mean an ID card? The thing we use every single day?”
Qin Xiyao tilted her head, not quite understanding why one would need to use it every day. “It’s not like you use it every second, right?”
Liu Suhong gave an awkward laugh. She went to bars frequently, and because she looked young, she was often mistaken for a minor; her ID card was practically glued to her person.
“Where are your original documents?”
Qin Xiyao said matter-of-factly, “Lost.”
“What about your household registration (Hukou)?”
“Can’t be found.”
Liu Suhong was speechless. “Then… no one can help you apply for a new one. You don’t even have a registration.” Her voice dropped significantly for the last few words. She never expected the person sitting across from her to be an “undocumented person.”
Seeing Liu Suhong’s troubled expression, Qin Xiyao knew this wouldn’t be easy. The laws of this world were strict; securing a legal identity would be difficult.
“Oh!” Liu Suhong clapped her hands. “Don’t you have an Alpha? Marry her! Get your name onto her household registration, then take the marriage certificate to apply for a replacement ID.”
Qin Xiyao’s eyes brightened. This was an excellent solution. “Thank you.”
The two chatted vibrantly in the tea house. Although it was mostly Liu Suhong talking enthusiastically and Qin Xiyao adding a few words here and there, the atmosphere between them was like old friends who hadn’t met in years.
Three hours passed. Liu Suhong’s phone rang several times. Finally, on the fifth ring, she answered with annoyance.
“Manager Fang, I’m out with a friend. This better be important.” Liu Suhong’s tone was sharp; she had already told the manager they would discuss the house another day.
The voice on the other end wasn’t Manager Fang’s, but a familiar, anxious voice: “Miss Liu, is Qin Xiyao with you?”
Liu Suhong covered her face. Crap. After “kidnapping” Qin Xiyao, she had completely lost track of time. The Alpha was panicking. Since Qin Xiyao didn’t even have an ID, not having a phone wasn’t a surprise.
“Hey, sorry about that! I ‘stole’ your wife and forgot the time while chatting. We’re at Shedi Tea House, No. 58 Chenjiazui.”
“Thank you.” Mu Baicheng’s thanks were stiff. Anyone could tell how unhappy she was.
About twenty minutes later, Mu Baicheng arrived. The usually jovial Alpha wore a grim expression. Liu Suhong mentally winced; she didn’t want to get caught in a “lovers’ spat.” To her, this was just another form of public display of affection.
Liu Suhong grabbed her bag and stood up. She told Qin Xiyao, “Talk it over with your Alpha. Here’s my card, call me anytime.”
Qin Xiyao took the business card and gave a calm nod. Until Liu Suhong left, Mu Baicheng didn’t say a single word.
Qin Xiyao handed the card to Mu Baicheng. “Let’s go.”
The two walked one after the other through the most prosperous streets of Hu City, their silent atmosphere clashing with the surrounding bustle.
Watching Qin Xiyao’s back, Mu Baicheng finally couldn’t hold back her anger. She stepped in front of her, looking down at her. “How can you just run off? Do you know how worried I was?”
Qin Xiyao had no ID and no phone. What if she got lost? When Mu Baicheng returned to the agency and didn’t see her, she had been frantic. She had spent nearly two hours searching the surrounding area before learning from Manager Fang that she had left with Liu Suhong.
Mu Baicheng’s words stirred a ripple in Qin Xiyao’s heart. Her black eyes appeared calm, yet in the shadows, they shimmered with a sadness Mu Baicheng couldn’t understand. “If I vanished, you would look for me? You would worry?”
“Isn’t that obvious?” Mu Baicheng was exasperated. “You said you don’t know anyone here. If something happened to you, I—”
“Heh.” Qin Xiyao looked down, a cold sneer playing on her lips. Her long lashes hid the silver glint in her eyes. Mu Baicheng said she would worry, that she would look for her—and that was after only two hours. But what about before? For a thousand years, Qin Xiyao had searched for her like a madwoman, her footsteps covering the Nineteen Provinces for a century.
When you left, did you ever think about me? Qin Xiyao suppressed the emotions in her heart, brushed past Mu Baicheng, and walked ahead. Memories of that agonizing period in her past life flooded back.
After a century of fruitless searching, she had used cultivation to numb herself. The Saint-tier Tribulation had allowed her to see Mu Baicheng again. The moment she appeared, Qin Xiyao knew she had never forgotten her—but now, there was more hatred and resentment than anything else.
Mu Baicheng looked at her back in confusion. Wait, I’m the one who’s angry, why is she the one walking away upset?
As a beautiful Omega in a busy district, men with ill intentions often approached her. Mu Baicheng gritted her teeth. I guess I owe this ancestor. Convincing herself, she hurried to catch up.
Qin Xiyao had no interest in wandering the city. With her powerful divine sense, she easily found the way back to the apartment. Mu Baicheng followed; as an Alpha, her stamina was surprisingly poor, and she struggled just to keep pace.
Finally at their door, Qin Xiyao leaned against the wood with her arms crossed, waiting. Mu Baicheng had the keys.
Mu Baicheng panted as she looked at her. This Omega was always so aloof, yet sometimes she was almost cute. Mu Baicheng sighed; though she didn’t know why the other was upset, they had to live together, and this atmosphere couldn’t continue.
She stepped forward, cleared her throat, and said cautiously, “Don’t be angry anymore.”
Qin Xiyao turned her head away, avoiding her gaze. Thinking of this person’s past “crimes,” she was full of fire.
Mu Baicheng shamelessly leaned closer. “I was wrong. I shouldn’t have been so harsh.”
The pitiful look reflected in Qin Xiyao’s eyes made her lips twitch slightly. Mu Baicheng caught the upward curve and cheered internally. It’s working! Qin Xiyao seemingly couldn’t resist her “sad puppy” act.
Mu Baicheng hunched her shoulders and looked up like a dejected Golden Retriever, her eyes watery. “Stop being mad, okay? It was my fault. I’ll take you out for burgers tonight?”
“Okay,” Qin Xiyao whispered, signaling the end of the cold war.
Mu Baicheng relaxed and pulled out the keys. “What did you talk about with Miss Liu?”
“She has a house for us to rent. And I asked her to help me with an ID card.”
Mu Baicheng’s hand paused. The lack of an ID was a major problem, and she didn’t have a good solution. The laws were strict, and background checks were rigorous. She could only imagine what would happen if Qin Xiyao’s status as a traveler was exposed.
“Mu Baicheng.”
The Omega’s voice was cool but serious. Their eyes met. For a moment, Qin Xiyao’s gaze was softer than usual. Mu Baicheng gave a dazed “Mm?”
Qin Xiyao leaned in until their noses almost touched. Mu Baicheng could hear her own heart thundering. The Omega’s warm breath carried the scent of peach wine and gardenias:
“Marry me.”
Mu Baicheng’s eyes widened, and she instinctively pulled back. “I—I—this… no.”
“Liu Suhong said marrying you would allow me to get an ID.”
The icy words brought Mu Baicheng back to reality. Oh, so that’s what she meant. Her heartbeat leveled out. “It’s not that simple. we’ve only known each other for two days.”
“Am I not pretty?”
Mu Baicheng was stunned. “Of course you are.” If Qin Xiyao wasn’t pretty, no Omega in the world would dare claim to be.
Qin Xiyao pressed closer. “Is my figure not good enough?”
Mu Baicheng’s heart skipped again as images of Qin Xiyao’s figure flashed in her mind. How could it not be good?
“Do you look down on me?” Qin Xiyao spoke again. Even without releasing pheromones, Mu Baicheng felt she was losing her footing.
“No…” What could she say? She was a defective Alpha; she should be thanking the heavens an Omega wanted to be with her. But for someone like Qin Xiyao to settle for her… Mu Baicheng felt a twinge of bitterness.
Qin Xiyao doesn’t understand. She just wants an identity. Mu Baicheng turned away. “Marriage is a big deal. You should think it over. You shouldn’t tie yourself to someone you’ve only known for two days just for an ID.”
“Two days?” Qin Xiyao let out a light laugh. I’ve known you for a thousand years. “So, you refuse, then.”
“I…”
“I won’t force you,” Qin Xiyao interrupted. Under the Jianmu tree, you said ‘eternity,’ and that was just a joke, wasn’t it? Fine. Without your memories, you refuse me directly.
“I’ll find another way for your ID,” Mu Baicheng promised.
“Why go to all that trouble? Little Mu, if you don’t want to marry this sister, my son certainly does.”
Mrs. Luo had returned. This time, Mu Baicheng was truly fed up. “Mrs. Luo, don’t you think you’re going too far?”
Mrs. Luo acted aggrieved, looking at the closed door. “I didn’t go in this time! Little Mu, houses are hard to find. Why are you being so difficult?”
“Exactly! Just hand the Omega over to me.” Chen Yao stared unblinkingly at Qin Xiyao’s profile, his Adam’s apple bobbing. So beautiful. His gaze dropped to her waist. So thin.
Mu Baicheng glared at Chen Yao with disgust, blocking his view. She turned a cold eye on Mrs. Luo. “Mrs. Luo, we are moving out today. This is your formal notice.”
She had been hesitant about Liu Suhong’s offer since Qin Xiyao had negotiated it, but now, Chen Yao’s intentions were as clear as day.
Mrs. Luo’s face fell, but she didn’t believe a pauper like Mu Baicheng could find a place so quickly. “Fine! If you aren’t out by tomorrow morning, don’t blame me for being heartless.”
As they left, Qin Xiyao watched the countless vengeful spirits following Chen Yao. The black aura of death was almost solid.
A small, white figure was perched on Chen Yao’s shoulder, trying to ward off the black aura. Qin Xiyao’s eyes darkened. A man who deserves to die, yet protected by a pure soul.
“I’m sorry, we’re going to have a long day,” Mu Baicheng sighed, checking the time.
Qin Xiyao gave a faint “Mm” and met her gaze. “Let’s move.”
They didn’t have much, so packing was fast. Qin Xiyao notified Liu Suhong, who sent a moving company. Within half an hour, they were in a van heading to their new home.
Qin Xiyao’s eyes were fixed on the rearview mirror. The white soul-body that had been on Chen Yao’s shoulder was now on the ground, watching her leave.
“Life and death are fated; the soul breaks at the Zi-Wu hour (midnight),” Qin Xiyao said softly. She looked down at her lap, where a small black kitten was sitting, emitting a black aura of death.
The kitten rubbed its head against her palm. Qin Xiyao tapped its forehead. “Be good. You can have your revenge tonight.”
Night fell. Chen Yao walked into the alleys of the old district clutching a liquor bottle. He didn’t see the tiny black figures following him silently into the darkness.
