My Omega Is A Top Heavenly Master (GL) - Chapter 8
Morning in the old residential district was far from peaceful. Police cars were parked at the entrance of the alley, and yellow caution tape was strung up to keep onlookers away.
A veteran police officer in uniform watched the forensic doctor examine the body in silence. To have such a case occur first thing in the morning… nearby, Mrs. Luo was in a state of total emotional collapse, wailing incessantly and trying to lunge toward Chen Yao’s corpse.
The veteran officer frowned and said impatiently to the intern beside him, “Make her shut up.”
“Yes, Captain Wang,” the intern replied.
He went over to lead Mrs. Luo aside to comfort her. This intern had a talent for it; he wasn’t great at investigating, but he was excellent at pacifying people.
Wang Jingsheng lit a cigarette. How long had it been since a homicide occurred in Hu City? As a veteran criminal investigator in this precinct, even he hadn’t seen a scene like this. There wasn’t a single drop of blood at the scene, yet the man had simply stopped breathing. He’d have to wait for the coroner’s word.
“Captain Wang.” The coroner packed up his tools and walked over with a heavy expression. “There isn’t a single wound on his body. I asked the mother—the deceased had no history of illness.”
“Oh?” Wang Jingsheng let out a cold snort. The ash on his cigarette grew long before being scattered by the wind. “Are you telling me this man just died for no reason? Surely you can tell me the cause of death?”
The coroner pursed his lips, seemingly debating whether to speak. Seeing this, Wang Jingsheng grew impatient. “Just say it.”
He hated how the younger generation hesitated during cases.
The coroner steeled himself. “Captain Wang, in my judgment, this man was literally scared to death.”
“Scared to death?” Wang Jingsheng looked incredulously at Chen Yao’s body. This was an Alpha, tall and sturdy. Even walking alone in a dark alley at night, how could he be scared to death?
What exactly had he encountered to meet such an end? Wang Jingsheng had a bad feeling. He ordered an officer nearby, “Secure the scene.”
Wang Jingsheng walked to the side, pulled out his phone, and dialed a landline number saved under the contact name “Master.”
“I’ve run into trouble here. I need your help.”
Barely five minutes after the call ended, a red-haired Omega carrying a makeup case walked into the alley. Initially, an officer tried to stop her.
With a flash of movement, the Omega vanished from where she stood, leaving only a white afterimage. She reappeared instantly in front of Wang Jingsheng.
Her skin was as white as snow, her narrow phoenix eyes slanted upward, and a faint, alluring smile played on her lips. Her short skirt barely reached her knees, unable to hide her straight, slender legs.
The Omega gave a light laugh. “Uncle Wang, even your people are trying to block me now?”
Her voice was like a hook laced with charm; several young Alpha officers on the team blushed on the spot. Wang Jingsheng offered a kind smile. He hadn’t expected this “little ancestor” to be the one sent.
“Jinran, stop joking. Come take a look.”
Wang Jingsheng pointed toward the deceased. Song Jinran gave a nonchalant “mm” and walked over with her case.
Song Jinran was a third-generation disciple of the Celestial Master Mansion, and the most gifted of her generation. Wang Jingsheng felt much more at ease; with this girl here, even the most difficult case could be resolved.
Song Jinran flicked her fingers in the air, and a yellow talisman paper appeared between them out of nowhere. As she chanted an incantation, the paper suddenly self-combusted.
Something’s wrong. Song Jinran narrowed her phoenix eyes. The other party’s strength was above her own. Moreover, they didn’t wish to reveal their identity. She pulled out a green talisman paper. It hovered in the air, causing the young officers to stare in awe.
Song Jinran muttered under her breath, finally condensing it into a single word: “Query.”
A silver light erupted around the green paper, erasing the original runes. Silver characters began to appear in their place.
“The laws of heaven are clear; karma comes due.” Song Jinran whispered the eight simple words. The green paper was then enveloped in silver-white flames, eventually burning into the shape of a cat.
The remains of the paper drifted to the ground and turned to dust upon touching the soil.
“How is it?” Wang Jingsheng asked hurriedly.
Song Jinran stared at the ground solemnly. This person’s Taoist methods were profound; fortunately, they harbored no ill will. Otherwise, the moment she pulled out her yellow paper to pry, she would have been attacked by those silver flames.
Furthermore, the person had made it very clear: the deceased died because of karmic retribution. According to her sect’s rules, one must not interfere with matters of karma.
Song Jinran dropped her playful facade and looked at Wang Jingsheng seriously. “Uncle Wang, the Celestial Master Mansion cannot help you with this. This man died entirely because of karma. He was burdened with too many sins; now his soul has been scattered to settle the debt.”
“Who did it?” Wang Jingsheng asked grimly. He had never heard of someone so powerful.
Song Jinran shook her head. The Celestial Master Mansion had always looked down on “rogue” Taoists, but she knew now that there was always someone better. She used to think quite highly of herself, but seeing the methods left behind today, she had to admit her own cultivation was lacking.
She looked up at the rising sun, a sense of anticipation rising in her heart. She truly hoped to meet this person.
Linmen Wangjiang was one of the few luxury residential areas in the city; it woke up later than the rest of the world.
Sunlight filtered through the thin curtains and spilled onto the sofa, gilding the two figures embracing there.
Qin Xiyao’s eyelashes fluttered. A faint silver glint flashed in her black eyes. Beneath her was a warm softness; it turned out she had fallen asleep lying on top of Mu Baicheng.
“You’re awake?” Mu Baicheng’s voice was a bit stiff.
She remembered waking up in the middle of the night and not finding Qin Xiyao. At first, she thought the “ancestor” didn’t want to sleep with her anymore. She had actually felt a bit relieved—until she saw the door to the other bedroom wide open and empty.
Recalling how Qin Xiyao had vanished without a word during the day, Mu Baicheng had panicked. She searched the entire house and then the night streets, finally finding an unconscious Qin Xiyao in that alley in the old district.
She’s such a handful. Why run out in the middle of the night? And to a place with such bad security? Doesn’t she know it’s dangerous for an Omega to be out alone at night?
Qin Xiyao looked at Mu Baicheng in a daze. A warm, wet sensation came from the back of her hand—Dudu was wagging his tail and licking her.
“You’re awake, Exalted One?”
Dudu’s voice echoed in her mind. The little guy must have been terrified when she suddenly collapsed yesterday.
Wait—Qin Xiyao scanned herself with her divine sense. Where did the century of merit I gathered last night go? She searched her body and her sea of consciousness for a long time but couldn’t find the golden bead.
How frustrating. How can merit just disappear like that?
“What were you doing running out in the middle of the night?” Seeing that Qin Xiyao didn’t seem to care, Mu Baicheng pinched her shoulders in anger.
Qin Xiyao looked up at the fuming Mu Baicheng. Is she angry? “I just went to take care of something.”
“What could possibly need taking care of at that hour?” Mu Baicheng gritted her teeth. “Don’t you know it’s dangerous for an Omega? Especially at midnight!”
Qin Xiyao’s body went limp, and she leaned into Mu Baicheng’s chest. Last night’s exertion was too great; without intimate contact with Mu Baicheng, she couldn’t recover.
Mu Baicheng swallowed hard, her lecture falling apart at the physical contact. “You… you… don’t think you can just charm your way out of this. You need to learn your lesson…”
“Can you hold me?” Qin Xiyao’s voice was weak—cold and aloof, yet carrying an undertone of acting spoiled. Mu Baicheng’s heart skipped a beat, but her arms moved of their own accord, wrapping around Qin Xiyao’s slender back.
As Qin Xiyao buried her head in Mu Baicheng’s neck, she caught a faint scent of Sandalwood (Vatican Incense). It was a very grounding scent—faint, but definitely there. She inhaled instinctively, her eyes shifting between black and silver.
Year after year of mana flowed into her. In a single breath, she recovered a century of power.
“Do you feel unwell?” Mu Baicheng asked softly. Facing an Omega like this, she didn’t know how to keep scolding. “Will you run off again?”
“I will,” Qin Xiyao answered without hesitation. She had to support Dudu now, and Dudu needed merit to stabilize his soul. She needed to accumulate merit and resolve karma to walk her Path.
The “Way of the Heart Query” was built on resolving worldly karma. Only by doing so could she have enough power to face the next Saint-tier Tribulation. Of course, reclaiming her mana was also vital.
“Why are you so disobedient?” Mu Baicheng was at a loss for words.
Qin Xiyao sighed. “Chen Yao is dead.”
“What?” Mu Baicheng froze. Chen Yao is dead? Her throat bobbed. Could it be that Qin Xiyao did it?
“It wasn’t me.” Qin Xiyao could no longer smell the pheromones. Having regained her strength, she sat up and told Mu Baicheng everything that happened the previous night.
Mu Baicheng hadn’t expected Qin Xiyao to be this powerful. Her lip twitched as she looked at Dudu wagging his tail. This little guy is a ‘Heavenly Soul’? The purest soul in the world?
Good heavens. Compared to Qin Xiyao, Mu Baicheng felt that calling herself “half-baked” was a compliment. She was basically useless.
“Any more questions?” Qin Xiyao didn’t plan to hide things. To get more mana from Mu Baicheng in the future, she needed her trust.
As it turned out, her skills were the best tool to draw Mu Baicheng closer. Indeed, the look in Mu Baicheng’s eyes was becoming increasingly one of worship.
Mu Baicheng hesitated, her hand behind her back picking at the sofa cover. “Um… that… can you teach me?”
“Like drawing talismans and stuff. My master died early… so… he didn’t teach me.” Her voice grew smaller. In the world of Taoism, teaching techniques was a guarded secret. She wasn’t sure if Qin Xiyao would agree, and she wouldn’t blame her if she didn’t.
But Mu Baicheng didn’t want to be a failure anymore. She wanted to actually learn.
“Sure.”
“If you’re not willing, it’s—Wait, what did you say?”
Mu Baicheng thought she had misheard. She looked at Qin Xiyao with an expression that shifted from shock to pure ecstasy. “Really? Then I should formally bow to you as my Master—”
“No need.” Qin Xiyao waved her hand. Given their relationship as Taoist partners, a Master-Disciple bond would be a complete mess.
Mu Baicheng jumped off the sofa happily. To think such a good thing actually existed! Then, a thought occurred, and she spoke cautiously: “Um, is the tuition expensive? You know I…”
“I don’t want your money.” A shallow smile appeared in Qin Xiyao’s cool eyes. She really is a money-grubber.
Mu Baicheng relaxed. As long as it didn’t involve money, everything was fine. But then she remembered what was said earlier. “Marriage is a big deal. Let’s just spend some time together first…”
“No rush. Just listen to me from now on.”
Mu Baicheng looked into Qin Xiyao’s eyes and steeled her heart. She’s an Omega; it’s not like I’m the one who’s going to lose out, right?
“Fine. I’ll listen to you. But we’ve got a deal—no charging money!”
Qin Xiyao watched the conflicted woman before her. That familiar name from the previous night echoed in her mind. Just like a thousand years ago, she was always so gentle.
“I have a request right now.”
Qin Xiyao stood barefoot in front of Mu Baicheng. Her eyes were rippleless, yet Mu Baicheng saw a deep, intense sorrow within them.
“What is it?” Mu Baicheng asked, dazed.
Qin Xiyao pressed her cheek against Mu Baicheng’s heart and closed her eyes.
“Call me Yaoyao.”
You have your memories, don’t you? You haven’t forgotten me… why did you leave me, Sister Mu?
