My Omega Is A Top Heavenly Master (GL) - Chapter 9
Mu Baicheng didn’t know why Qin Xiyao suddenly wanted her to call her “Yaoyao,” but the moment she uttered those two words, Mu Baicheng’s heart felt as if it were being squeezed by an invisible hand—tighter and tighter, until it pulsed with a numb ache.
“Yaoyao?” Mu Baicheng called out cautiously.
Qin Xiyao opened her eyes and mocked herself inwardly. She has no memories. The person from her past life would never have called her with such timid caution; that woman was gentle, aloof, and as powerful as the sun, moon, and stars.
Qin Xiyao subtly withdrew from Mu Baicheng’s embrace. What am I doing? Didn’t I decide nine hundred years ago that I wouldn’t love her anymore? Hasn’t she hurt you enough?
She swept a cold gaze over Mu Baicheng. Right now, she’s just a tool to provide mana. Why overthink it? Mu Baicheng was the one who broke the vow of eternity. Besides, once I become a Saint, there’s no such thing as ‘life after life’ anyway.
Mu Baicheng shuddered under the look. What’s wrong with this ancestor now? Is she regretting the deal? Is she going to start charging me money? Just because I didn’t say her name right? Good grief, this life is impossible.
“Study time,” Qin Xiyao said, tossing the Classic of Mountains and Seas back to Mu Baicheng. Her foundation was too shaky; she needed to read more.
Mu Baicheng held the book blankly, feeling relieved. At least the ancestor didn’t back out. She sat cross-legged on the sofa and flipped the book open.
“Can you read it out loud? My memory isn’t very good.”
Qin Xiyao picked up a copy of the I Ching and sat to the side, not giving Mu Baicheng a single glance. “Do as you wish.”
Mu Baicheng began to read and memorize aloud, as earnest as a primary school student on her first day.
Summer was prone to rain, and today was no exception. One moment the sun was blazing; the next, a torrential downpour began. Raindrops drummed against the windowsill in an irregular rhythm. The chaotic noise made it impossible for Mu Baicheng to concentrate. She walked over and shut the window tight, but just as the room went quiet, the doorbell became the new disturbance.
Just as Mu Baicheng was about to curse, Qin Xiyao set her book on the coffee table. “Keep memorizing. I’ll get the door.”
Qin Xiyao knew exactly who was outside. The only person who knew they were here was Liu Suhong. Moreover, Qin Xiyao had calculated that they and Liu Suhong would be neighbors for a while.
The door opened to reveal the young socialite, Liu Suhong, standing there in loungewear. She beamed at Qin Xiyao. “Xiyao, I’ve moved in right across from you. It’ll be more convenient from now on.”
Convenient for what? Obviously, convenient for Qin Xiyao to read her fortune.
“Doesn’t matter. I don’t work for free anyway,” Qin Xiyao replied, crossing her arms and turning around. Liu Suhong “tsk-tsked” at the cold response. Look at this heartless woman; I just sorted out their housing, and she’s still this cold.
“Sigh,” Liu Suhong lamented. Well, nothing to be done when she’s this capable. If Qin Xiyao were willing to tell her fortune, she’d let them live here for free.
Liu Suhong made herself at home in the dining area, sitting across from Qin Xiyao. Qin Xiyao read her book; Liu Suhong watched Qin Xiyao.
Qin Xiyao looked up, their gazes meeting. “Don’t you have work today?”
She remembered Liu Suhong’s business card said she was the General Manager of a tech company. She didn’t seem like the type of socialite who did absolutely nothing.
“The company doesn’t have any major projects lately. As the GM, I can do my work from home. Why bother going to the office?” Liu Suhong shrugged.
Qin Xiyao didn’t engage further. This lady talked a lot; even if no one responded, she could find a thousand topics to keep a one-sided conversation going.
Perhaps because Liu Suhong was getting a bit loud, Mu Baicheng subconsciously raised her own volume while memorizing, making the two voices sound like they were in a battle.
Liu Suhong’s lip twitched. She leaned in closer to Qin Xiyao and whispered mysteriously, “Is your Alpha preparing for a civil service exam?”
In her experience, only people taking those exams studied with such intensity and carried such a heavy “aura of death.”
Qin Xiyao blinked. She had been here long enough to know what the exams were, but she didn’t know how Liu Suhong concluded Mu Baicheng was taking one.
Liu Suhong was suddenly struck by how cute Qin Xiyao looked. Good heavens! How can such a cold face look so adorable?
“Woman, please stop projecting your charm,” Liu Suhong said, feigning seriousness.
Qin Xiyao turned her head away helplessly, wanting to continue reading, but her stomach staged a protest. After a couple of growls, she realized she hadn’t eaten breakfast. Thinking of the KJJ bucket from yesterday, she walked to the living room and pulled the book out of Mu Baicheng’s hands.
“Hungry.”
Qin Xiyao’s black pupils were round, like a cat begging for food. The contents of the Classic of Mountains and Seas got stuck in Mu Baicheng’s throat. Why do I feel like a zookeeper?
“No way, your Alpha hasn’t cooked for you?” Liu Suhong asked in shock. This socialite had countless suitors, and they all had one thing in common: they could cook. Even at home, when her mother was alive, her father did all the cooking. She grew up believing every Alpha in the world was a chef.
Mu Baicheng turned stiffly and pointed to her own nose. “I’m an Alpha—since when do I know how to cook?”
“Huh? Don’t Alphas always cook?”
Mu Baicheng… Where on earth did you get that delusion?
“Forget it. Stay home and wait for me; I’ll go buy something.” Mu Baicheng knew what she wanted. She grabbed her old umbrella at the entryway, ready to head out.
Liu Suhong looked at the black sky outside. “Where are you going? In this weather, an umbrella is useless. Are you going out to sacrifice yourself to the heavens?”
“She wants a Family Bucket,” Mu Baicheng said while changing her shoes.
Qin Xiyao added, “Specifically the original recipe chicken.”
Liu Suhong thought to herself: This has to be more than just true love. What kind of past-life debt does this Alpha have to do something this crazy?
“Can’t you just order delivery?” Liu Suhong muttered.
At the word “delivery,” Mu Baicheng’s expression turned solemn. She looked out at the rain. “In this weather, delivery apps charge extra fees.” In short: it’s not worth it.
Liu Suhong was speechless. “Fine. I have ingredients at my place. I’ll cook.”
“You can cook?” Mu Baicheng was surprised. This lady looked like she’d never touched a dishcloth in her life. Is she going to serve us ‘dark cuisine’?
Seeing her suspicion, Liu Suhong rolled her eyes. Her only two hobbies were painting and food. After high school, she went to a culinary school specifically to learn. Western, Chinese, fast food—she could do it all.
Qin Xiyao stood up and tugged at Liu Suhong’s sleeve. “I believe you. I want something spicy.”
Her physiognomy told her Liu Suhong wasn’t lying; she could cook and would eventually be a “virtuous wife and mother.” It seemed that Great Immortal was going to be quite lucky.
“Leave it to me. Xiyao, come to my place,” Liu Suhong said, pulling her out. Mu Baicheng followed them, closing the door. “Wait for me!”
Liu Suhong’s apartment was decorated simply, clearly indicating she had just moved in. However, right in the entryway hung a portrait of a semi-nude man.
Qin Xiyao thought to herself: Maybe once I recover enough, I should send a message to that Great Immortal and tell her to come manage her wife?
“Pretty good-looking, right?” Liu Suhong nudged Qin Xiyao’s shoulder, grinning mischievously. This was why she liked “little brothers”—she was obsessed with abs.
Qin Xiyao looked away. To her, the image looked greasy. “I like women.”
They reached the living room, and Qin Xiyao sat on the sofa. She was a polite guest. Liu Suhong’s place was much larger, and it was clearly laid out by a Feng Shui master—the “Five Ghosts Carrying Wealth” formation.
Mu Baicheng sat down next to Qin Xiyao, looking at her with curiosity. Qin Xiyao was a traveler from a world without ABO genders. Did she like women back then too?
“What are you looking at?” Qin Xiyao turned. “You’ve been staring for ten minutes. Is there something on my face?”
Mu Baicheng shook her head. “Did you always like women?” Female Alphas were rare in this world, much like male Omegas. Most Omegas preferred men because male Alphas were traditionally seen as more “powerful” and able to provide a sense of security.
“Why ask?” Qin Xiyao didn’t want to answer. In her 100,000-year life, she had only loved one person—it just so happened that person was a woman.
“Just curious.” Mu Baicheng leaned back into the soft sofa. “In this world, most Omegas are like Miss Liu—they like male Alphas with abs.”
“Don’t you have them too?” Qin Xiyao’s fingertips brushed against Mu Baicheng’s soft stomach. Even through the clothes, she could feel the lines of her abdominal muscles.
Mu Baicheng froze as Qin Xiyao leaned in. The Omega’s hand slid under the hem of her shirt. The cool fingertips sent shivers through her body.
It does feel nice, Qin Xiyao thought, glancing at Mu Baicheng’s face. She’s pretty, too. I was bewitched by this face in my past life.
Mu Baicheng snapped out of it and pulled Qin Xiyao’s hand out. “Can you stop with these sneak attacks?”
“Didn’t you say you’d listen to me?” Qin Xiyao leaned her head on Mu Baicheng’s shoulder. “Let me touch more.” Touching gives me mana; why did you take my hand out?
“No,” Mu Baicheng said.
“Oh?” A cold glint flashed in Qin Xiyao’s eyes. She used her strength to pin Mu Baicheng down on the sofa, straddling her waist and looking down at her.
“You don’t have a say in whether I’m allowed or not.” I want my mana now, and you dare to refuse?
Qin Xiyao’s gaze dropped to Mu Baicheng’s lips. If I kiss her, will I get even more mana? Will she… forget it. She owes me this.
Qin Xiyao leaned down. Mu Baicheng’s eyes widened as she watched the other’s face get closer. Their breaths intertwined. The Omega’s stunning face filled her vision, and her heart began to hammer uncontrollably—she couldn’t tell if it was excitement or sheer confusion…
