My Psycho-Beautiful Professor Forced Me to Mark Her - Chapter 8
The streets Qi Si rode through were full of neon lights and the smell of alcohol. Teenagers in their late teens gathered on the streets, smoking, playing pool, and kicking and punching broken arcade machines.
Next to the barbecue stalls, a group of shirtless men were drinking, smashing beer bottles, and shouting vulgar jokes.
At the entrances of KTVs and foot massage parlors, women with heavy makeup to hide their age were soliciting customers. Those who had been inside knew that most of the service providers were plain-looking Beta women. Male Omegas were rare, and female Omegas were extremely hard to find.
This was a place where poor people gathered. The houses were run-down, the streetlights were broken and nobody bothered to fix them, and the accumulated garbage was not cleaned up.
Underneath a graffiti wall was a homeless person’s home. Further inside, it was desolate and quiet. A plastic bag floating on the street could startle someone.
Qi Si had gotten lost and ended up in this kind of place, but the friends of Boss Zhou were all wealthy and high-status. How could she be here?!
What did it mean for a lone Omega to be in a dark alley like this?
She counted a total of three adult male Alphas. The tall, thin one was closest to the Omega. He had his back to Qi Si, his hand on the wall, in a position that looked like he was pinning her against the wall.
The second one was tall and strong, standing sideways, watching them. The third one, with yellow hair, was the farthest away, acting as a lookout. The average height of these three was 185 cm. They were strong and gave off a strong Alpha pheromone scent, looking very aggressive.
There was no way she could win a fight against them, but she could try to scare them away.
Qi Si stopped her bike, suddenly rang the bell loudly, and yelled at the same time, “What are you doing?!”
The sound startled everyone. The yellow-haired man gasped, as if he had been hit on the head with a club. He suddenly came to his senses, turned around, and ran.
The moment he turned, Qi Si was ready for a fight, but the tall, yellow-haired guy didn’t even look at her. He tucked his tail between his legs and ran away in a panic.
Phew.
Two were left.
These two seemed to have something wrong with their heads. They remained in their previous positions and didn’t even bother to give Qi Si a look.
Qi Si decided to let them feel the power of a society ruled by law. She steadied her bike and clenched her fists, making a cracking sound. In the dark, she didn’t notice Lin Ye’s slightly disgusted look. She strode toward the two male Alphas and put one hand on the shoulder of the tall, thin male Alpha—
“Hey! I’m going to call the police if you don’t stop!”
The man had his back to Qi Si. When she touched his shoulder, he stumbled back half a step, and turned his head mechanically. His eyes seemed unfocused, and he looked a little confused.
Qi Si: “?”
In a corner she hadn’t noticed, Lin Ye threw away a syringe, grabbed Qi Si’s hand, and said, “This place is too dangerous. Leave quickly!”
The Omega’s sweet scent made her dazed for a moment. When she came to her senses, the older woman was already pulling her out of the alley.
Her strength was even greater than that of the male Alpha just now. She was so fast in her high heels that it was as if she were flying. Given the reactions of those people just now, Qi Si even had a bizarre suspicion: could it be that the ones in danger were not this woman, but those unlucky male Alphas?
That’s impossible.
When they got to a crowded area, they slowed down, but their hands were still clasped together.
Qi Si’s hand was sweaty from being pulled. Afraid of dirtying the older woman’s hand, she awkwardly pulled her hand away.
Lin Ye stopped and looked at her, asking coldly, “Why are you here?”
Qi Si looked straight ahead and said nonchalantly, “My home is around here.”
Lin Ye: “It’s not safe to live in a place like this.”
“It’s not very safe, but there’s no other way.” Qi Si thought about her family in the apartment. Jiang Mingzhu was an Omega, and her two sisters had not differentiated yet, but they were most likely Omegas, too. If someone targeted them, that place was not safe at all.
Lin Ye had no interest in the hidden helplessness in the second half of her sentence. She only cared about one thing: did this busybody idiot suspect something just now?
After they walked a little further, Qi Si didn’t ask Lin Ye a single question. She looked around warily. Only after she was sure the area was safe did she say, “Can you call a cab and go back by yourself?”
Lin Ye: “…?” What did she mean? Was this how a student spoke to a teacher?
“I left in a hurry just now. My bike is still back there. I have to go back and get it. It should be easy for you to call a cab here and go back to Shuxiangyuan. Or do you want to call a friend to pick you up?”
After all, Qi Si’s only asset was a second-hand bike she had bought from a senior for 80 yuan, and she had only been riding it for a week. She searched her conscience and felt that she really couldn’t abandon her new bike for a rich woman.
Lin Ye only heard the first half of her sentence: “You’re going back?”
Qi Si: “Yes.”
Lin Ye was even more confused: “You still want that piece of junk?”
Qi Si: “…”
Are you being polite, ma’am?
She had been a little too hasty in throwing away the syringe. The residual drugs in it could still be analyzed. Lin Ye was genuinely afraid that this student would go back and find something that could be used against her. She grabbed Qi Si’s hand and said, “No!”
Qi Si: “Huh.”
…Are Omegas this strong?
“My head hurts, and my heart hurts. I’m in so much pain,” Lin Ye said without changing her expression. “You take me home, and I’ll buy you a car.”
Qi Si’s eyebrows twitched—
Maybe you should reconsider what you said and how much force you used to pull me?
Qi Si pulled Lin Ye’s hand away and said stiffly, “If you’re in a lot of pain, I suggest you find someone to take you to the hospital.”
Lin Ye: “Aren’t you a person?”
“I am, but that bike is my wife, and I can’t just replace her.”
Lin Ye scoffed, “Your taste in wives is pretty random, then.”
Qi Si was speechless. She looked at the pretty woman and realized that her vocabulary was too limited. She was no match for her.
Since she couldn’t win an argument, Qi Si decided to ignore her. She sullenly turned back to look for her bike.
“Stop right there!” Lin Ye said sharply.
Qi Si felt her body freeze, standing still like a dog.
The high heels slowly tapped a few steps. Qi Si felt the Omega’s sweet scent, as if a bottle of vintage wine had been opened. The fragrance of fruit wine mixed with a rose garden, beautiful like the Garden of Eden in a myth.
Lin Ye rested her chin slightly on Qi Si’s shoulder and parted her lips to say, “I’ll go with you.”
Qi Si heard her heart beating like a drum.
She remembered that she was also an Alpha. Although she was impotent, she was still naturally attracted to the Omega’s pheromones. It was like a eunuch wanting to go to a brothel.
The two of them walked the five hundred-meter stretch back and forth. When Qi Si got her bike, even she found it disgusting, let alone the older woman.
The frame was rusty, the front brake was useless, and the back brake only worked when she squeezed it to the very end. The handlebar’s grip was peeling off, and the basket on the back seat had probably carried countless people’s youth.
The bike was bought by her senior from another senior three years ago and was then sold to Qi Si. Its quality was far worse than the shared bikes on the street. No one would even bother to steal it if she left it on the street.
Lin Ye told her to put the broken bike in the trunk of her Porsche. Qi Si wanted to find a hole to hide in, especially when the paint from the bike frame was scraped off and clattered into the clean trunk.
“I’m sorry, I… I’ll wipe it clean for you later…” Qi Si was wiping the paint and her tears at the same time.
She hadn’t cried when she left the apartment. She hadn’t cried when she was excluded and her phone was smashed. But now, as she was putting a broken bike into someone’s luxury car, Qi Si felt her dignity shatter like the broken paint of the bike, poor and pathetic.
This was hilarious to Lin Ye. She had never seen such a strange sight—it was her car that was being dirtied, and she hadn’t said anything, so why was this girl so heartbroken?
“Hey, hey, are you sick?” Lin Ye hesitated and raised a hand, seemingly wanting to comfort her, but her comforting skills were so limited that she didn’t know what to do for a long time. Finally, she pressed her hand on top of Qi Si’s head and grabbed it randomly, like Zhou Zhiruo using her “Nine Yin White Bone Claw,” which completely dazed Qi Si.
Qi Si stood still, unable to describe her feelings. Her head hurt a lot, and there were still tears on her face.
Lin Ye scoffed at her, “I told you to throw away that junk.”
Qi Si apologized pitifully, “I’m sorry.”
Lin Ye’s eyebrows raised. She was a little moved by her pitiful state. She swallowed a bunch of curses and said lightly, “Next time you’ll know to listen to me.”
Qi Si lowered her head and wiped away her tears.
Thanks to these rich older women, Qi Si got to drive a Porsche at a young age. She started the car and asked the back seat, “Ma’am, can you set the navigation?”
Lin Ye was resting with her eyes closed in the back seat. She didn’t even lift an eyelid and said, “You don’t have a navigation system?”
Qi Si: “I don’t have a phone.”
Lin Ye’s temper flared up instantly. She thought this idiot Alpha was messing with her. She sat up straight and almost hit Qi Si’s innocent face. Lin Ye quickly rephrased her words, “Did you time-travel from ancient times? Why don’t you have a phone?”
Qi Si: “I don’t really need one.”
Lin Ye: “Idiot.”
Qi Si said politely, “Could you please give me directions?”
Lin Ye felt her idiocy-intolerance was flaring up. She rubbed her temples and impatiently unlocked her phone and threw it to her.
Besides running into a police officer checking for drunk driving in the middle, the drive was smooth. Qi Si didn’t dare to bother her again and drove the car directly into the underground garage.
Before leaving, Lin Ye called her, “Qi Si.”
Very few people could say her name correctly. Qi Si was a little surprised.
Lin Ye patted her shoulder: “What happened today, you can’t tell anyone.”
Qi Si said without a second thought, “Okay.”
She didn’t even know who she would tell this to.
During the National Day holiday, Qi Si was the only one left in her dorm. She spent her mornings in the lab as a research assistant, feeding the lab mice on time and cleaning up biological waste. In the afternoons, she tutored a middle school student. In the evenings, she self-studied in the library, and after finishing the fundamentals of computer science, she learned programming languages and practiced programming on her new MacBook.
On her way to the library, she often ran into people who would greet her. Once, a female Alpha chatted with her the entire way. The other person asked her unintentionally, “How’s your programming studies going?”
Qi Si looked at her strangely and asked tentatively, “You’re also learning programming?”
The female Alpha was confused: “I’m not. Aren’t you self-studying? We just talked about it yesterday.”
Qi Si: “Oh, you’re the one from yesterday…”
The female Alpha was speechless: “I’m Ji Min.”
Qi Si’s eyes widened slightly, and she calmed her surprise.
Holy crap, if Ji Min wasn’t with the people from dorm 601, she wouldn’t have recognized her at all.
Ji Min found out something. She said with a disgusted look, “You wouldn’t happen to have face blindness, would you?”
Qi Si: “Haha, you found me out.”
“Ugh, I knew there was something weird about you sometimes. You’re so cold and don’t even say hi to people.” Ji Min pursed her lips and looked at this highly intelligent person. “I’ve never seen anyone with this level of face blindness.”
Her weakness was determined by her genes. Qi Si couldn’t change it. She awkwardly changed the subject. “Are you not going home for the National Day holiday? Where is your home?”
Ji Min: “My hometown is in the south. No one is home, so I don’t want to go back.”
Qi Si nodded. She made a mental note of Ji Min’s characteristics. Even though she had face blindness, she was serious about making friends.
“What about you? Yixuan said you’ve been working in Su Mo Xiao’s lab recently. How is it? Is it hard?”
Qi Si: “It’s alright. They’re short on staff during the holiday, so I’m just doing odd jobs.”
“Do you know what their lab is researching?”
“I’m not sure.”
Ji Min nodded: “No wonder. You went there without knowing anything. The person in charge of their lab is Lin Ye. That’s the Lin from Lu Lin Biopharmaceuticals. Their lab is supported by A University’s medical school and collaborates with hospitals and pharmaceutical companies. I heard they’re researching a drug that makes Alpha glands lose their function. They’re close to a breakthrough. Most Alphas who hear about their research don’t dare to go into their lab, afraid of getting infected. I’m surprised you were so brave. It seems you were tricked.”
Qi Si’s mouth dropped open in surprise. “You’re so amazing. How do you know everything?”
Ji Min adjusted her glasses: “It’s all public information online. You just have to look it up.”
Qi Si nodded: “Shen Yixuan probably doesn’t know this either.”
“She’s a little slow on the uptake. She probably wouldn’t intentionally trick you,” Ji Min said like a knowledgeable senior. “You should find an excuse and resign from this assistant job as soon as possible, so you don’t get into trouble.”
Qi Si: “Okay, I’ll quit after the holiday.”
Before the holiday ended, Qi Si got her new phone and put her old SIM card in it. As soon as it turned on, she received several text messages from a debt collection agency.
The person in charge of the online loan, Shang Xin, hadn’t been able to contact her for days. The last message said he would come to her dorm at school to find her.
Qi Si didn’t want the online loan to be known, so she quickly called her back.
As soon as the call connected, Shang Xin cursed at her, “I’m going to fuck your mother. Where the hell have you been these past few days? Your loan has been overdue for a week, and you won’t answer your phone. The bar owner said you quit. Where the hell did you go?!”
Qi Si was sweating. She apologized and explained, “I’ve been working part-time at school during the holiday. I’ll get paid soon, probably tomorrow. I’ll pay back the loan tomorrow. It’s just one day. Please be patient.”
Shang Xin: “I’m coming to your school to find you tomorrow!”
Qi Si swallowed. “I still have a part-time job to finish tomorrow. You won’t be able to find me. It’s better if I get the money and bring it to you.”
“We can find your dorm number,” Shang Xin sneered. “If I can’t find you, I’ll go to your dorm. I’ll go to your counselor. Don’t think that just because your phone is off, you’re in the clear. We can find your home address!”
Qi Si had indeed held a glimmer of hope that she could get away with it. She had been procrastinating on buying a new phone, partly because she didn’t want to deal with this. She wanted to spend this holiday in peace. She didn’t think they would show up at her door.
When she first borrowed the money, she had planned to only provide her name and phone number and a fake home address. But because they said college students could get a discount on the interest, Qi Si had used her A University student ID.
Only when the rock finally fell did Qi Si realize that running away was pointless and would only make the problem worse.
“I’ll get the money tomorrow, which will be enough to settle the bill,” Qi Si said, trying to stay calm. “You don’t need to come to the school. Ruining me won’t do anything for your repayment plan.”
The other person cursed a few more times and finally hung up.
Qi Si came out of the bathroom after the call, listening to her roommates talk about where they went for the holiday. She was distracted and on edge.
The money she earned from tutoring her boss’s friends was already paid. A portion was given to Jiang Mingzhu, and the other part was used to buy a new phone and pay back an old friend. She had about 2,000 yuan left. She planned to use the money Su Mo Xiao would pay her to make up the 5,000 yuan needed to pay off the online loan, but Su Mo Xiao hadn’t contacted her on her own, so it didn’t seem like she intended to pay her.
Qi Si clicked on Su Mo Xiao’s WeChat profile. The last message was from a year ago. When Qi Si had sent her a message, it said, “Message failed to send. You are no longer friends,” and she realized she had been blocked.
Perhaps because their friendship had been deleted, she could still see the last ten photos in Su Mo Xiao’s Moments, and she saw photos of her recent trip to Japan.
Nine photos were not enough for her to post, so each photo was a long collage. There were pictures of her posing in a white dress on the beach, wearing a princess dress at Tokyo Disneyland, soaking in a hot spring at the foot of Mount Fuji, and sightseeing in a helicopter.
Qi Si typed two words in the chat box: “Pay up.”
The message said, “Message failed to send. The other person has not added you as a friend.”
Forget it. School starts tomorrow. I’ll go ask her in person.
On the morning of October 7th, at 9 AM, Qi Si arrived at Su Mo Xiao’s lab building and pressed the doorbell, waiting to be let in.
This time, the wait was a little longer. When she entered, the hallway was crowded with students in white coats, seemingly having a meeting.
However, things were not as she had thought. The moment Qi Si appeared, the students stopped their hushed conversations and looked at her with suspicion, anger, and disgust.
Qi Si didn’t recognize faces, but she could clearly recognize people’s emotions.
Liu Peng shouted, “Oh my god, you’re finally here!”
Qi Si: “What happened?”
“And you have the nerve to ask?”
The voice that answered her was Su Mo Xiao’s. She walked out of the crowd in her high heels and threw a bag of biological waste at Qi Si’s feet. Dead mice rolled out of it.
Qi Si: “!”
“How did you do your job? Is this what you did?!” Su Mo Xiao walked up to Qi Si, and before Qi Si could ask what was going on, she cursed at her in front of everyone, “With your skill level, how did you even get into medical school? You can’t even handle this one little thing I asked you to do. Do you know that you’ve affected senior Liu Peng and everyone else’s graduation plans?! How can you take responsibility for this?”
Qi Si’s head was buzzing. She stared at the bag of corpses on the ground and said faintly, “Su Mo Xiao, you can’t dispose of biological waste like this.”
Su Mo Xiao was furious. She raised her hand to slap her—
Qi Si caught her hand in mid-air.
