Please Marry Me (GL) - Chapter 14
Jiang Yi’s expression shifted, her face turning pale then flushed with anger. She was speechless for a long time, a ball of fury churning in her chest.
Galled, she shoved at Shen Siyun. “Get off me!”
The infirmary was quiet, with only the echoes of their voices.
Shen Siyun didn’t let go. She kept her arms clamped around her, glancing at the bruised top of Jiang Yi’s foot, her eyes still cold as frost. “I hit a nerve, didn’t I?”
“Right, right, right! Everything you say is right!” Jiang Yi told herself to endure; it wasn’t worth getting worked up over this trashy woman.
She knit her brows. “You know my body better than anyone. Instead of letting it go to waste on a woman like you, I’d rather give it to someone else. Does it matter who I do it with?”
“You’re proud of that?” Shen Siyun grew more unable to recognize her, letting out a sharp, angry laugh. “Do you even remember you’re married? Weren’t you the one talking about being a virtuous wife?”
Just the other day, she was the one pushing Shen Siyun away, saying she was a married woman and telling her not to stand so close. Today, she’s playing with fire right under her nose!
“Does Song Rao know you moan that provocatively?”
Jiang Yi closed her eyes tight, her body trembling. She opened them and sneered, “What if I do? President Shen, are you just bitter because you can’t have me? Did you realize your charm can’t compare to your subordinate’s, so you’re taking a jab at me to salvage your wounded ego?”
“Jiang Yi!”
“Hey, I’m not deaf. Why are you shouting, President Shen?”
“…”
The two remained at a deadlock. Jiang Yi glanced at the clock on the wall; it was almost time for Yin Lei to get off work. She had to explain today’s situation and apologize for the trouble she’d caused.
She pulled out her phone, intending to message Yin Lei to see if she was done. She planned to ask her out for dinner—if not today, then another time. In any case, she couldn’t let such a perfect opportunity go to waste, especially since she now knew Yin Lei was in charge of the coating project.
Getting close to Yin Lei was her best move.
“Jiang Yi, your tactics are getting more sophisticated by the day. It’s only been an hour and you already have her contact info.”
Shen Siyun stared coldly at her phone screen. Seeing Yin Lei’s name, her face darkened another shade. From the moment she saw Jiang Yi arrive for the tour to this current predicament, less than an hour had passed.
Jiang Yi didn’t even look up as she typed, choosing her words carefully. “Is President Shen complimenting me? Thanks.”
Shen Siyun: “…”
【Yin Lei, does your offer still stand? Can I still hitch a ride back with you?】
No, too direct. Jiang Yi typed a line and then deleted it character by character. That would look too suspicious. Her fingers hovered over the screen for a long time until she suddenly noticed Shen Siyun bending down in front of her to pick up her high heels.
She stared in confusion. “Shen Siyun, what are you doing?”
“Taking you home.” Shen Siyun looked down at her shifting expressions, her thin lips pressed in a cold line.
“Are you… serious?” It was Jiang Yi’s turn to be bewildered. Hadn’t she just been mocking her for being provocative and unfaithful?
Her body felt light as Shen Siyun’s arms slid under her knees. The sudden bridal carry made Jiang Yi instinctively hook her arms around Shen Siyun’s neck. Looking at Shen Siyun’s sharp jawline, she swallowed the words she was about to say. The WeChat message to Yin Lei was forgotten.
Throughout the ride, Shen Siyun didn’t say a word. She leaned over to buckle Jiang Yi’s seatbelt; her soft, smooth hair fell past her shoulder and brushed against Jiang Yi’s skin—a fine, itchy sensation.
Jiang Yi stared unblinkingly at Shen Siyun’s profile so close to her. Her features were exquisite, her skin almost too pale, but in that moment, an unbidden feeling rose in Jiang Yi’s heart—a fleeting illusion that they were a couple who had been together for years.
Shen Siyun seemed to sense her gaze and looked over. Jiang Yi quickly looked away and whispered a polite “Thank you.”
Shen Siyun’s gaze lingered on the softness beneath Jiang Yi’s shirt, where the faint shadow of her cleavage was visible. Jiang Yi was petite, but her frame was slender and well-proportioned; those long, white legs could drive anyone mad.
Shen Siyun masked her expression, shut the door, and walked around to the driver’s seat. She started the engine, and soon they were on the quiet, spacious highway.
The silence was deafening. Jiang Yi felt the atmosphere was too heavy. “Don’t blame Yin Lei. She was just helping me with the medicine. As for her clothes, I accidentally tore them. It had nothing to do with her.”
Yin Lei had worked so hard to go from intern to manager; it was clear she valued her career. Shen Siyun still didn’t respond, focusing on the road. Jiang Yi bit her lip and went silent.
“We’re here.” The car stopped at Fu’an Residential Complex.
Shen Siyun carried her upstairs and set her down on the sofa. Jiang Yi felt a spark of gratitude and was about to say thanks, but before she could open her mouth, Shen Siyun had already turned back toward the door.
The sound of the door closing echoed. Shen Siyun was gone.
Jiang Yi didn’t know what to feel. Shen Siyun’s actions were like those of a stoic relative who leaves a heavy bag of gifts at your door during the holidays without saying a word—burdensome yet meaningful. She began to wonder if she had been too harsh.
But then again, no matter how harsh she was, she wasn’t as bad as the woman who had just humiliated her. Thinking of that, her gratitude vanished by half. She picked up her phone to message Yin Lei. Scouting the enemy was more important.
Jiang Yi: 【Yin Lei, are you free? I explained everything to Shen Siyun about today. I’m so sorry you got scolded. I’d like to treat you to dinner to make it up to you.】
Yin Lei replied quickly: 【It’s fine, no need.】
No, “no need” was not an option.
Jiang Yi: 【Are you busy?】
Jiang Yi: 【I feel so bad about you getting scolded. How about I help you write those 3,000 words of self-reflection?】
Jiang Yi: 【I can’t let it go.】
Yin Lei seemed to reconsider: 【Don’t worry about the reflection. Let’s do dinner another day.】
She had agreed! Things were going smoother than expected. A smile spread across Jiang Yi’s face, and she prepared to call her team leader, Lin Fei, to report the progress.
Just as the call connected, the sound of a key turning in the front door lock startled her. She nearly thought a thief was breaking in, but when she saw Shen Siyun’s striking face, she reflexively hung up the phone.
“Why are you back?” To be honest, Jiang Yi felt a bit guilty. After all, she was trying to snatch a project from Shen Siyun, and her methods weren’t exactly honorable.
Shen Siyun stepped inside and placed a bag of medicine on the coffee table. She gave Jiang Yi a distant look before turning her gaze toward the two bedrooms. Both doors were open, showing obvious signs of being lived in. This apartment had great lighting; a big reason they bought it was because Jiang Yi loved sunlight in her room.
Shen Siyun pursed her lips and walked into one of the rooms. It was clean and organized, with an enamel mug and some reference books on the desk—clearly the professor’s room.
Shen Siyun turned around and walked toward the other one. Jiang Yi realized what she was checking. She stood up to stop her but fell back onto the sofa as her foot flared with pain.
She cried out in a pained tone, “Shen Siyun, my foot hurts…”
“Then use the medicine.”
“…” Jiang Yi looked at the liniment on the table, speechless.
Out of necessity, she propped herself up against the sofa and hopped on one foot toward the bedroom, trying to find the right words. “I didn’t expect the great President Shen to be so rude as to pry into someone’s private bedroom.”
“Save it, Jiang Yi. I gave you this entire apartment,” Shen Siyun replied from inside.
“So what? Since you gave it to me, it’s mine.” Finally reaching the bedroom, Jiang Yi leaned against the doorframe.
Shen Siyun was standing in front of the open closet, looking at her with a knowing, mocking smile.
“Jiang Yi, you say you’re married. So why are your clothes the only ones in this closet? And why don’t you and your ‘wife’ sleep in the same room?”
“Just admit it. You entered a fake marriage with your best friend just to get back at me, didn’t you?”
