Please Marry Me (GL) - Chapter 7
Jiang Yi moved the cardboard boxes to the trunk of her car. Shortly after, Song Rao sent over a string of numbers. She called the technician and asked him to come by and collect the “junk” in a while.
After about an hour of work, the man weighed the items downstairs in the complex. They sold for 108 yuan and 20 cents.
Jiang Yi took the money and returned to the apartment, handing the keys to Shen Siyun, whose expression hadn’t improved in the slightest. “Here.”
Shen Siyun stood tall with her arms crossed, looking down on her. She didn’t take the keys; instead, she asked with a sneer, “How much did it sell for?”
“108 yuan and 20 cents,” Jiang Yi answered honestly.
Another sneer. “Truly cheap.”
The words were pointed, but Jiang Yi didn’t want to overthink it. She replied tepidly, “It’s okay. It’s enough to buy two meals’ worth of groceries.”
Enough for her and Song Rao to eat two home-cooked meals.
Shen Siyun choked on her words, letting out a cold huff. “Suit yourself.”
After returning from the apartment, Jiang Yi planned to find a new job. The company she previously worked for had gone bankrupt a few months ago. Ever since she realized Shen Siyun had no intention of marrying her, she had lost interest in working and had simply given herself a vacation to relax.
Jiang Yi had majored in New Media at a prestigious university. Once her resume was sent out, she quickly received a response from HR inviting her for an interview. Both the interview and the written test went smoothly. A week later, Jiang Yi joined a company called Qiguang Trading as a junior staff member.
Fu’an Residential Complex.
Coming home from work, Jiang Yi had just entered the complex parking lot when she spotted a familiar license plate in the corner. Then, she saw Ding Lanqi sitting in the driver’s seat on the phone.
“Sun Zhi, don’t blame me for not warning you—don’t make any mistakes these next few days… Yes, President Shen is back from her trip. Yes, the contract was secured, but most of the details are being handled by the overseas branches. President Shen is holding remote video conferences every day to inspect progress, and she’s in a terrible mood. If you make a mistake, she’ll scold you until you’re bloodied. At least three girls were moved to tears by her today. Sun Zhi, you’re my assistant; we sink or swim together. Please, use your brain. Look at this report—the amount is wrong. Go fix it quickly. President Shen is going to see it soon; I’ll try to stall as long as I can.”
Ding Lanqi hung up and let out a heavy sigh. Suddenly, out of the corner of her eye, she caught a glimpse of a graceful figure in the rearview mirror. Her expression sharpened as she pushed the door open and got out.
“Miss Jiang, what a coincidence.” As Shen Siyun’s secretary, Ding Lanqi knew some of the inside story.
President Shen’s foul mood was largely rooted in her little lover, Jiang Yi. She’d heard she ran off with someone and got married—who wouldn’t be angry about that?
Jiang Yi nodded, her gaze calm and distant. “Mhm, it is quite a coincidence. If there’s nothing else, I’ll head upstairs.”
“Miss Jiang!” Ding Lanqi called out again, searching for a topic. “Can I ask what the housing prices are like in this complex? It looks quite nice.”
“Your President Shen gave it to me. You can ask her.”
Ding Lanqi let out a soft “ah.” Watching Jiang Yi’s back, she finally guessed why Shen Siyun had made her drive here.
The apartment President Shen gave her… her little lover is using it as a bridal home with someone else?
Aren’t they going to start a war?!
When Jiang Yi went upstairs, she saw the two women in a state of mutual hostility; a fight was indeed about to break out.
Song Rao had rarely returned early, but today of all days, she ran into Shen Siyun, who looked like she was there to settle a debt.
Shen Siyun was dressed in a white shirt and a pencil skirt—the look of a corporate power player. She had clearly just finished work. She looked tall and slender, her long curly hair partially obscuring her face. Shen Siyun had a beautiful brow bone; even from her profile, one could see her cold and aloof nature.
The only thing “off” was the sickly paleness of her skin. Others enviously called it a rare “cold-white” porcelain skin, but in all their moments of intimacy, Jiang Yi had never seen Shen Siyun flush with heat or lose her composure.
Looking back, it was likely because the feelings weren’t deep enough. Unlike herself—one beckon from Shen Siyun and she would lose her soul and give everything.
Currently, Shen Siyun stood before Song Rao, her thin lips pressed tight and her eyes unfriendly. Seeing Jiang Yi walk over, both spoke simultaneously.
“Jiang Yi, explain!” One was suppressing her rage.
“Wife, you’re home just in time.” One was calm and steady.
The moment they spoke, it felt as though a winner had been decided. Shen Siyun glanced at Song Rao, her face darkening further.
“Are you tired?” Song Rao took the bag from her hand.
Jiang Yi shook her head, her gaze shifting between Song Rao and Shen Siyun. “What happened?”
“Jiang Yi, you’re using the apartment I gave you as your marital home?”
Shen Siyun felt she had had a bad enough week, but she never expected to hear news even more outrageous. She had rushed over to confirm it and met the woman Jiang Yi had married—Song Rao. Now she realized that Jiang Yi’s best friend was not only exceptionally good-looking but also very steady.
“Have you considered my feelings at all?”
“Am I not allowed to?” Jiang Yi looked steadily into her eyes, which were as calm as still water. “Why should I consider your feelings?”
Didn’t you also fail to consider mine?
You were so resolute when you said you wouldn’t marry me. Did you consider my feelings after I whispered with you for two years, loved you for two years, and humbly pined for you for two years?
“You are testing my bottom line, Jiang Yi.” Shen Siyun’s jaw tightened. “I’m taking this apartment back.”
“Then President Shen might be disappointed.” Jiang Yi suddenly flashed her a smile. “My name is on the deed. Under the law, gifts given during a relationship are recognized as having no obligation to be returned.”
“Besides, this was my second-anniversary gift. You said back then that you liked me immensely. Why, President Shen? Is that ‘liking’ so cheap?”
She threw the words from the previous encounter right back at her.
Shen Siyun’s breath hitched. Her face turned from flushed to pale, then back again; it took her a long time to recover. Noticing the slightly heavy rising and falling of Shen Siyun’s chest, Jiang Yi felt a flicker of satisfaction.
Shen Siyun, you finally have your day!
“However, in light of your kindness in giving us ‘wives’ a home, I wonder if President Shen would deign to lower herself and have a meal with us?”
Shen Siyun stared at her snow-white cheeks. Jiang Yi’s red lips and white teeth were offering an invitation, and the beautiful images of their past flashed through her mind. She forced her gaze away and said mockingly, “Jiang Yi, does your ‘wife’ really not mind?”
