Pretending To Be Affectionate [Transmigration] - Chapter 3
“Lawyer Gu, I didn’t realize you… you know Ling Yu?”
“Of course, we know each other,” Ling Yu interjected.
Hearing this, Jiang Song’s face turned even paler. He didn’t dare to speak.
Offending the pampered Ling Yu would only cost him a cash cow. But offending Gu Qing would mean he wouldn’t be able to find a suitable lawyer for his company’s case.
Jiang Song’s voice stammered as he faced Gu Qing’s intimidating gaze. He forced a smile and lowered his stance, pleading, “Look, since we all know each other, could you do me a favor and we catch up together? The case is secondary; our relationship is what’s important.”
Gu Qing’s eyes lingered on Jiang Song’s face for less than two seconds. Her cold presence pressed down on him, overwhelming him.
“A relationship?” she asked, her voice rising with a mocking tone, as if looking at an ant.
Gu Qing’s coldness was different from Ling Yu’s playful air. Perhaps it was because of her quarter-foreign bloodline; her facial structure was elegant, her features deep-set. When she stared at someone, her eyes had the sharp, predatory gaze of a wolf.
The danger was palpable. Jiang Song stumbled back, his back hitting a table corner. He winced in pain as his face contorted.
Gu Qing gave him a dismissive glance. Without a word, she turned to walk away, making the most ruthless statement about this so-called “relationship.”
As she passed Ling Yu’s shoulder, she suddenly turned her head. “Have you seen enough?”
“Ah?” Ling Yu’s smile widened, completely undisguised.
She fearlessly shook her head, tilting up her fair, delicate face and giving her a flirtatious look with her eyes. “Not yet. I could keep looking…”
Ling Yu’s skin was fair, and her small face, framed by the pure white fur of her puffer jacket hood, looked even more like flawless porcelain. At that moment, the stars in her eyes sparkled with emotion—raw and passionate.
Gu Qing looked away.
She had always disliked being stared at so directly, especially when the person was Ling Yu, who was as pure as a blank sheet of paper.
The latter was like a fearless, blazing sun trying to warm her. Cruel words had no effect on her. It was as if, if she so chose, she could easily leave an even more intense mark on Ling Yu.
Ling Yu never hid her feelings, always trying to be a pure-hearted sun that shone just for her.
But Gu Qing was used to the darkness and disliked this simple woman who kept trying to get close.
With that thought, Gu Qing’s expression soured. She pulled her arm out of Ling Yu’s grasp.
Leaning in close to her ear, she lowered her voice and asked, “Does Jiang Song like you?”
The two were very close. Gu Qing’s pleasant, cold scent wafted over Ling Yu.
It was faint, yet it lingered in her nose.
Ling Yu’s eyes narrowed.
She had been a sycophant for two months, and Gu Qing had rarely even spared her a glance. This was the first time she had actively leaned in.
Ling Yu was surprised. She raised her wet eyes. “What?”
Gu Qing gave her a long, polite stare before straightening up. She sighed softly. “Then he must have bad taste… you’re too slutty.”
Ling Yu: …
“Hahahaha. She said you’re too slutty? Too slutty! Ling Yu, I never thought I’d see the day.”
Xu Miao clutched her stomach, leaning on the table, almost choking on her laughter. They were at the Zanghai Club at 11 p.m.
On the first-floor dance floor, lights flashed and punk music blared, bringing the club’s atmosphere to a fever pitch.
Ling Yu shrugged, letting out a lazy yawn. “Right? I was wondering if a woman like Gu Qing was blind, deaf, or just ignorant. Does she think a pure-looking student like me is the real ‘slut’?”
Ling Yu picked up her colorful drink, brought it to her lips, and took a sip.
Xu Miao laughed even harder, wiping a tear from the corner of her eye. She glanced at Ling Yu, who was wearing a short, pure-white lace dress. Her long hair was down. She must have just washed it, as her waist-length black hair was still damp.
Her wet hair clung to the fabric, revealing a glimpse of her silken back as she moved.
“So, you came here tonight to prove your charm?”
Ling Yu shook her head, settling into the sofa booth. The emotions on her face faded visibly.
Seeing her cousin’s expression, Xu Miao immediately understood. She chose her words carefully and asked, “What did Yu Xin do to you this time?”
She spoke with certainty, a hint of worry in her voice.
Ling Yu smiled, trying to reassure her. “Don’t worry.”
That was her way of admitting it. Xu Miao’s expression darkened. “That bitch! She’s been doing so many nasty things to you in the dark for years, and now that you’ve moved to Yuncheng, she still won’t stop. Ling Taiguo really plays favorites, doesn’t he?”
Xu Miao spat out angrily, “Don’t just tough it out. If you really can’t handle it, I’ll go to Grandma.”
“It’s nothing big. No need to trouble the elders.” Ling Yu gave Xu Miao a look that told her to calm down. Seeing that the champagne hadn’t arrived yet, she poured Xu Miao a glass of ice water.
“Yu Xin is a low-class person. She probably just learned from Jiang Song yesterday that I like women.”
Ling Yu casually gestured to the dance floor below. “That’s Yu Xin’s distant niece down there. Ling Taiguo called me tonight and asked me to ‘take care of her.'”
Xu Miao followed Ling Yu’s hand. She only needed one look at the dance floor to get furious.
At the center of the first-floor dance floor, the night’s final dance was in full swing. The punk music was pumping. On the dimly lit stage, a woman in a barely-there chain outfit with a rose in her mouth was pole dancing.
As she moved gracefully on the pole, the chains on her body made a provocative sound.
“Ahhh, ahhhhh!”
“I love you, wife!”
“One more song!”
…
The crowd below cheered. The woman Ling Yu was pointing at was the dazzling dancer.
Xu Miao’s face hardened. She slammed her glass on the table and said angrily, “Those two scumbags have some nerve! Do they think the Xu family is all dead?”
“Miao, why get angry at animals? You know my personality. What could they possibly do to me?” Ling Yu patted her shoulder.
Yu Xin’s tactics had been dirty for a while now. The dancer downstairs had a seductive look and was clearly used to this scene.
Even Xu Miao could tell that Yu Xin had an ulterior motive. Ling Yu, of course, knew that they were so eager to set her up.
It only meant that Ling Taiguo and his wife were losing their patience and wanted to get rid of her.
Ling Yu gave a meaningful smile, calmly comforting Xu Miao. Then, her eyes suddenly narrowed.
The pole dance was nearing its end. The dancer stepped off the stage, and the crowd of men and women grew louder, craning their necks and offering their lips.
It was the first time Xu Miao had seen such a chaotic, almost pornographic scene on a stage. She tilted her head and asked Ling Yu, “Are they… fighting for the rose?”
Ling Yu’s eyes were fixed on the woman sitting on a high stool in the bar area. She blinked and looked again. It was still the woman she had been relentlessly pursuing.
Ling Yu’s lips curved in a look of disbelief. She replied absently, “They aren’t fighting. They’re asking for a kiss…”
Xu Miao didn’t notice Ling Yu’s odd behavior. She rubbed her forehead and clicked her tongue. “I have to say, Yuncheng is pretty wild… more exciting than the clubs we usually go to.”
She didn’t get to finish her praise. The next second, the pole dancer lightly touched her toes on the floor. Her lips held a smile, and she gracefully weaved through the crowd before heading to the bar.
The dancer put one hand on the bar and leaned in, pressing her body against Gu Qing’s. Gu Qing wore a long black knit dress that reached her ankles.
Her long, slender legs were pressed together at a 45-degree angle. Even while sitting in a noisy bar, she exuded an air of refined detachment.
Ling Yu watched as the dancer leaned her soft body inch by inch into Gu Qing’s arms. The latter didn’t refuse. In the flashing lights, she swirled a glass of red wine, a faint smile on her lips.
Ling Yu sneered.
“Huh?” Xu Miao also noticed Gu Qing. She nudged Ling Yu’s arm, unsure. “Xiao Yu, is that woman downstairs the one you’ve been so head over heels for?”
The bar lights flickered. Ling Yu narrowed her eyes.
“I guess so.”
She casually tossed her glass away, stood up, and arched her peach-blossom eyes into crescent moons. “I’ve been chasing her for so long without success, I thought she was asexual. Turns out, I just wasn’t ‘slutty’ enough… She should have told me sooner!”
