Raising Birds and a Son with a Tycoon - Chapter 2
Du Xiaomian raised an eyebrow at Xu Yang’s silence. “Even so, you still like me? Still want to stay with me?”
“I… I…” Xu Yang stammered, but before he could finish, Du Xiaomian cut him off. “Even if you’re willing, will your family agree?”
“…”
Xu Yang was completely stunned into silence.
Du Xiaomian slowly exhaled a puff of smoke—as if breathing out a pent-up resentment that had been trapped in her chest for years, finally released and dissolving into her blood. Her whole body relaxed, and she even felt a hint of vengeful pleasure.
Even if this “revenge” wasn’t about love or hate—but, it was about saving face.
She delivered one last blow: “So, young man, before you truly understand yourself and the other person, don’t keep saying ‘I like you’ all the time. It will hurt others and yourself, understand? I’m hanging up. Don’t call again.”
If even Xu Yang who swore he liked her so much was scared away by her family, then who else in this world would dare to approach her?
Du Xiaomian, who was initially blinded by love, was so infatuated with Xu Yang that she questioned her life and everything after their breakup…
It was almost time to leave. Du Xiaomian crushed her cigarette, blocked Xu Yang’s number, and headed to the ticket gate. But as she turned around, she spotted someone sitting on the staircase leading upstairs—a lean young man with sharp, handsome features.
He was probably there to smoke too, and had been sitting for quite a while. Several cigarette butts lay scattered by his feet.
He looked at Du Xiaomian with a half-smile, as if he had thoroughly enjoyed the show she just put on.
Du Xiaomian was speechless. She crossed her arms, wanting to say something to him, but she couldn’t find a reason to—she had been too focused on getting rid of Xu Yang to notice a grown man behind her.
But the other person’s smile was far too infuriating. If she didn’t say something, she couldn’t swallow her anger. So, adopting the tone of a seasoned auntie, she “kindly reminded” him:
“Young man, smoking is bad for your health. If you smoke too much, you’ll reek of it and you won’t be able to find a wife.”
With that, she spun around and walked away.
When she said it, she completely forgot that she herself had also been smoking just now—while having a baby face. Her turn was so graceful that even her ponytail swung. Combined with the backpack on her shoulders, she looked exactly like a rebellious high-schooler who had just escaped school to cause trouble.
It was the first time Li Suchuan had been lectured by a precocious young girl like her. He found it fresh—and a little amusing. He stood up as well, patted the dust off his clothes, and strolled toward the waiting hall leisurely.
He followed Du Xiaomian within a not too close not too far distance—keeping a few meters behind her.
Du Xiaomian wasn’t tall, just a little over 160 cm with a petite frame, but fortunately her proportions were excellent with a well balanced upper and lower body. Thus, no matter what she wore, she could pull off the illusion of long legs. Like now—she wore a cropped green padded jacket, straight-cut jeans, and sneakers with a four-to-five-centimeter platform. It not only made her legs look long, but also made her whole silhouette look taller and slender, creating a pleasing look to the eye.
Of course, she had no idea someone was watching her.
As the New Year is around the corner, most of the passengers on the train are migrant workers carrying large bags and small packages and children, heading home for the New Year. When Du Xiaomian found her seat, a middle-aged woman was already sitting there, holding a few months old baby in her arms. The baby was probably hungry, and they were crying loudly with snot bubbles coming out of their nose. The crying was heart-wrenching and earth-shattering, making Du Xiaomian dizzy.
The woman soothed her child while apologizing to Du Xiaomian, saying that she was borrowing her seat for a while and would take the child to the upper bunk soon.
Du Xiaomian couldn’t imagine how a woman could climb up to the top bunk with a few months old baby, so she offered to switch and go up to the top bunk herself. The woman thanked her gratefully a few times, then turned around and comforted the baby, saying, “Don’t cry, baby. Your dad went to get some hot water and will make you milk soon.”
Then, the child’s father came back with a baby bottle and sat on the opposite seat of the lower bunk, shouting, “Here it comes, here it comes, the milk is here, stop crying, you’re making my head hurts.”
The baby quickly stopped crying and started sucking on the bottle with loud smacking sounds. Du Xiaomian secretly breathed a sigh of relief, sat down, closed her eyes, rubbed her temples, and drifted off into thought.
Children are truly terrifying creatures.
Back then, the third and fourth child in her family were like a pair of high-pitched trumpets, one singing and the other inevitably singing along, their voices rising and falling, neither willing to admit defeat. For more than two years, Du Xiaomian never had a good night’s sleep at home, and the shadow in her heart still lingered to this day.
Therefore, Du Xiaomian disliked children, was afraid of children, and was even less willing to have children. Even after getting married, she remained childless. So when she was forty, her husband, fearing that there would be no one to carry on the family line, found another woman to have a child.
When she got divorced, none of her parents, in-laws, aunts, uncles, or cousins sided with her. They all said that she was born into a life of privilege but didn’t know it, that she was selfish and deserved what she got.
Which woman gets married and only cares about eating, drinking, and having fun without having children? If there are no children, who will inherit the family’s multi-million dollar company?
Even after dying and coming back to life, Du Xiaomian still felt she had done nothing wrong. Her original intention in getting married was to find a partner with similar family values to rely on and spend the rest of her life with. When her partner changed his mind halfway through, she didn’t make a fuss or cause a scene. Instead, she showed great compassion and made way for their family of three. She can be described as very gentle and virtuous.
If we have to say where she was wrong, that would be she shouldn’t have even gotten married.
So in this life, she learned her lesson and decided not to have children or get married, living a free and unrestrained life, with no one able to control her.
“Young man, is this your seat? Excuse me, please let me sit for a while.”
The child’s father’s voice pulled Du Xiaomian back from her daze. She opened her eyes and her gaze was filled with two straight and slender legs wrapped in worn denim jeans. Looking up, she realized that the owner of those long legs was no other than the guy from the hallway earlier.
Du Xiaomian hadn’t noticed it before because the light was too dim, but now that she looked closely, she realized that the boy had wheat-colored skin, very three-dimensional and distinct features, and a pair of bright, piercing eyes under his dark brow bone. He was the kind of handsome man with an extremely masculine look.
She had to admit, she was quite amazed.
”It’s alright, please sit down,” Li Suchuan replied casually, and sat down himself.
