Saving the Pitiful Villain (GL) - Chapter 10
The progress of the events was smoother than Jiang Shangxue had anticipated.
When the rental agent called Jiang Shangxue back, she was momentarily stunned, having not expected Yun Wu to find her apartment so quickly.
Putting down the report in her hand, Jiang Shangxue immediately decided to go to the East Villa community.
Jiang Shangxue had not been to the apartment since Uncle Li had finished furnishing it.
Meng Meng quickly tidied the documents. “CEO, Lawyer Gao Sheng is on his way. Should I immediately tell him to change the time?”
There was a moment of silence in the air.
Jiang Shangxue pondered for a moment. “Please ask Lawyer Gao Sheng to detour to the East Villa community. I will wait for him at the community gate.”
Before his death, Yun Yuandao had signed an agreement with Dacheng Law Firm, which included a confidential agreement regarding Yun Wu’s future inheritance of the Yun Group.
In the book, the entrusted lawyer originally responsible for the case, Fan Zhong—who was also the Yun Group’s appointed Chief Legal Officer—was later bought off by the male lead. He leaked and forged several confidential company documents, ultimately allowing the male lead to successfully acquire the Yun Group at a critical moment.
Yun Wu was left with nothing.
Jiang Shangxue’s policy was always to leave no room for potential threats.
Many people at the Yun Group speculated about why Jiang Shangxue was suddenly showing up at the company every day. No one expected her to resolutely target the legal department, directly removing the Chief Legal Officer appointed by the late Chairman and forcefully demanding that Dacheng Law Firm immediately send another lawyer to sign a new confirmation of engagement.
Gao Sheng was the new legal officer designated by Jiang Shangxue.
After successfully signing the new letter of engagement with Gao Sheng at the coffee shop outside the East Villa community, Meng Meng and Gao Sheng still needed to return to the company to handle the subsequent procedures.
Jiang Shangxue stood by the roadside, watching them get into the car.
She habitually checked the time: six o’clock. Half an hour had passed since the last daytime class at East Villa High School ended.
Jiang Shangxue fumbled for her key card and hurried into the community.
Not far away, Yun Wu and Ye Mei walked out from around the corner of the road only after Jiang Shangxue had left.
Ye Mei looked perplexed. “Do you have a grudge against that woman? Why did you suddenly refuse to leave when you saw her? She looked quite pretty from the back.”
“Dacheng Law Firm,” Yun Wu murmured, not answering Ye Mei’s question.
So, she was deliberately getting close to me because she knew Yun Yuandao had left another will?
The sun hung high, and the oppressive heat could not be suppressed even by the cool breeze.
Yun Wu’s pale fingertips were cold. She tugged at the corner of her mouth, took out the remaining orange candies from her bag, and decisively threw them into the trash can.
Without a key card, Ye Mei couldn’t enter the community and could only see Yun Wu off at the entrance.
Building A, 12th floor, 1201.
Yun Wu walked in and pressed the button, quietly waiting for the elevator.
It was rush hour after school, so the elevator was relatively crowded, and two five or six-year-old children were playing marbles inside.
Yun Wu, with her large backpack, stood tightly pressed against the wall.
Midway, the elevator stopped. When the door opened, Jiang Shangxue and Yun Wu stared at each other.
“Wu Wu.”
“Auntie Jiang.”
Although she knew Yun Wu had rented the apartment, Jiang Shangxue still feigned surprise.
“Wu Wu, are you living here too? Which floor?”
“The twelfth floor,” Yun Wu’s eyelashes fluttered when she heard Jiang Shangxue’s intimate address. She quickly masked her emotions and answered calmly.
At the same time, she subtly hid her injured hand behind her back.
“The twelfth floor? So you rented my apartment. What a coincidence.”
Jiang Shangxue walked into the elevator, her long hair draped over her slender back. She lowered her eyes and smiled faintly, her gaze fixed on Yun Wu’s face, composed and natural.
Because it was crowded, Jiang Shangxue and Yun Wu stood very close, close enough to clearly observe the subtle changes in each other’s expressions.
Coincidence?
Yun Wu felt a slight urge to sneer.
She had just been wondering why Jiang Shangxue wasn’t staying properly at the Yun Mansion but had run off to the East Villa community. Now everything made sense.
She is truly going to great lengths to act in front of me.
Yun Wu’s lowered gaze slowly lifted. A hint of shallow surprise appeared on her face as she met Jiang Shangxue’s eyes. “It is quite a coincidence.”
Yun Wu’s eyelashes were very long, distinct, and curled, giving her a strangely docile look from Jiang Shangxue’s angle.
Even though her current expression and tone were unexpectedly cold.
In the light, Jiang Shangxue scrutinized Yun Wu, her gaze moving from her fluttering lashes downward, pausing on her fingers, which were subtly curled up as if from nervousness.
Jiang Shangxue secretly sighed in relief.
Although Yun Wu seemed somewhat aloof, at least she didn’t show the obvious resistance that Jiang Shangxue had been worried about.
Just then, the elevator slowly stopped. The number displayed was 12.
Jiang Shangxue stepped out first, with Yun Wu following behind her.
A child who was playing marbles let go of a handful, and they scattered across the floor. As the elevator doors closed, a few bounced out.
Jiang Shangxue was about to turn and ask Yun Wu if she needed help carrying her luggage when her foot suddenly slipped on a marble. She fell abruptly sideways without warning.
Yun Wu instinctively wrapped her arms around Jiang Shangxue’s lower back, trying to steady her.
But the momentum was quite strong. Yun Wu stumbled backward a few steps, and her already injured hand slammed hard against the wall. Unable to hold back, Yun Wu let out a painful groan.
Jiang Shangxue’s breath hitched. After managing to steady herself, she immediately checked on Yun Wu.
“Wu Wu, did you hit your head?”
Jiang Shangxue had heard the dull thud when Yun Wu hit the wall; it sounded painful.
Unexpectedly, Jiang Shangxue noticed a rough bandage wrapped around Yun Wu’s right middle finger, with blood already seeping through.
Noticing Jiang Shangxue’s concerned gaze fixed on her right hand, Yun Wu quickly retracted it and hid it behind her back.
Her posture was clearly defensive. “No.”
She was like a wounded beast in the forest, extra vigilant to the slightest disturbances around her.
Jiang Shangxue nodded, smoothed the stray hairs from her forehead, and her gaze shifted to the dark green backpack on Yun Wu’s back.
She hadn’t paid attention when there were more people, but now that the space was open, Jiang Shangxue realized the backpack was enormous, pressing heavily against Yun Wu’s back like a small mountain.
After only a quick glance, Jiang Shangxue didn’t let her gaze linger on the backpack. “Let’s go check out your room.”
She took out her key, opened the door, and turned on the light.
This was also Jiang Shangxue’s first time here. She had just found the housekeeper who happened to live in the same building.
It was a three-bedroom, one-living room apartment. The living room was clean and simple, with a spacious study at the innermost side and a large balcony. The décor was very understated.
Jiang Shangxue opened the shoe cabinet, took out two pairs of prepared slippers, and motioned for Yun Wu to change into them. Then, she opened the bedroom door.
The next instant, Jiang Shangxue was dumbfounded.
This was obviously the room Uncle Li had prepared for Yun Wu.
A sea of pink flooded the eyes: a pink bed, pink pillows and comforter, a pink bookshelf, pink carpets and curtains. Most exaggerated of all, there was a pink plush toy the height of a person on the bed.
This must be an elderly person’s idea of love.
A momentary unnaturalness flashed across Jiang Shangxue’s face. She turned to look at Yun Wu, who was equally bewildered, and then calmly explained.
“Do you like pink? I quite like it, so the other room was decorated in this color. You can live in this one.”
Yun Wu pursed her lips and nodded, her expression giving no indication of whether she liked it or not.

Jiang Shangxue: Pink is nice too, huh?
Yun Wu: …
