Saving the Pitiful Villain (GL) - Chapter 15
Yun Wu folded the paper containing the key information she had jotted down and tucked it into the gap along the edge of her room’s drawer.
When the bathroom door opened, Yun Wu had just walked to her door, still holding the pen in her hand.
Jiang Shangxue was wearing a wide-collared silk nightgown. Her long, damp hair was spread across her back, with one strand hanging down her neck. Water droplets seeped onto her shoulder, revealing her straight collarbone faintly.
Yun Wu’s heart instantly tightened. She quickly slipped the pen into her sleeve. The tip accidentally jabbed her palm, causing a sharp, immediate sting.
“Auntie Jiang, the living room is all cleaned up.”
Yun Wu’s voice was quiet. Jiang Shangxue curved her lips, lowering her gaze to look at Yun Wu, who refused to meet her eyes.
A trace of deep meaning flashed in her eyes. Jiang Shangxue took two steps toward Yun Wu in her slippers, stopping right in front of her. “You look very nervous.”
It was a statement, not a question.
Yun Wu darted a glance at Jiang Shangxue. Seeing her gaze shift from herself to the documents on the table, she instinctively clenched her hand into a fist.
The sharp pain in her palm flowed backward with her blood to her heart, making her entire body tense up. Her already agitated nerves instantly boiled over.
Yun Wu held her breath and remained silent. The air suddenly grew quiet.
Jiang Shangxue’s gaze then swept over the cleaned dining table. After a few seconds, her attention returned to Yun Wu.
The girl stood there stunned, her dense, curled eyelashes trembling slightly, once again looking pitifully lost and helpless.
Jiang Shangxue was slightly distracted. The Yun Wu at this stage was self-conscious, sensitive, taciturn, and isolated.
But she shouldn’t be this nervous over spilling a bowl of chicken soup. After all, through their interaction over the past few days, Jiang Shangxue had found that Yun Wu wasn’t firmly resisting her.
After deeper thought, Jiang Shangxue could only attribute the reason to East Villa High School.
Students spent the vast majority of their time at school. In the book, the discrimination and bullying Yun Wu suffered at school never ceased.
Thinking of Yun Wu’s injured finger, Jiang Shangxue became more certain of her guess. However, due to her identity, Jiang Shangxue never dared to bring it up proactively.
This was a very dark and unpleasant experience for Yun Wu. Jiang Shangxue worried that rashly mentioning it would be counterproductive.
Jiang Shangxue’s gaze lingered on her for a long time. Yun Wu’s entire body was tensed until her muscles ached. She blinked, lifted her head, and tentatively called out, “Auntie Jiang.”
“Mhm,” Jiang Shangxue suddenly snapped back, realizing she had been staring at Yun Wu for too long.
They were only inches apart. Jiang Shangxue could clearly see her own reflection in Yun Wu’s deep, clear pupils. She cleared her throat awkwardly and shifted her gaze.
“You’ve also gotten dirty. Go wash up.”
“Mhm,” Yun Wu nodded softly.
Turning to go back to the room for her clothes, Yun Wu unconsciously glanced back at Jiang Shangxue. Her clean face only held a gentle smile.
Yun Wu was momentarily distracted. After walking into the bathroom and closing the door, her emotions gradually calmed down.
A faint scent of lily-of-the-valley lingered in the bathroom. The moment Yun Wu entered, it rushed to her nostrils.
Her gaze swept over the shelf, where a bottle of lily-of-the-valley perfume was placed.
Yun Wu slowly walked over, and as if possessed, she picked up the perfume and sprayed it into the air.
It was a woody floral scent. The top, middle, and base notes were all gentle and immensely inclusive, faint lily-of-the-valley.
It was exactly like the gentle demeanor Jiang Shangxue currently displayed.
It was seductively tempting her to drop her guard and vigilance with an incredibly soft facade.
Jiang Shangxue’s face gradually appeared in her mind. Yun Wu leaned her back against the cold wall. Her clear eyes gradually sank into a confused struggle.
In the silent space, a water droplet suddenly dripped from the showerhead.
Tap.
Yun Wu snapped back to full alertness. She put down the perfume bottle, her eyes unreadable.
She quickly walked to the window and opened it. A strong gust of wind rushed in. Within a few minutes, the fragrance had completely dissipated.
She closed the window again, took off her dirty clothes, threw them into the laundry basket, and prepared to take a shower.
Her hand had just touched the switch when a knock suddenly sounded on the bathroom door.
Jiang Shangxue stood outside the door. “Wu Wu, can you get the medical waterproof finger cots? Your hand can’t touch water. I forgot to give them to you earlier.”
Yun Wu’s eyelids twitched, and the calm expression on her face cracked slightly.
Finger cots?
Yun Wu had worked part-time at a lesbian bar. Although she knew the finger cots Jiang Shangxue was referring to weren’t those kinds, her face, which had just cooled down from a blush, began to heat up again. As for the earlobe Jiang Shangxue had pinched, it was scorching hot.
She felt both flustered and somewhat ashamed.
Yun Wu wrapped herself in a bath towel and opened the door a tiny crack. “Auntie Jiang, yes, of course.”
Yun Wu’s face was extremely red. Even the hand and wrist she extended were flushed with color.
Seeing that she was obviously embarrassed, Jiang Shangxue felt amused. She suppressed her laughter and handed her a box of medical finger cots.
“There are a few more boxes in the drawer under the coffee table. Keep this box in the bathroom for now.”
“Mhm, thank you, Auntie Jiang.”
The girl’s voice was soft as silk. After receiving the finger cots, she hurriedly slammed the door shut with a bang.
Jiang Shangxue stood outside the door. Her smile froze for a moment, then curved into an even more pronounced arc.
She’s still a child at heart, not fully grown up. Why is she so shy over just handing over something?
Jiang Shangxue shook her head, laughing lightly, experiencing the joy of raising a child for the first time.
In her original world, Jiang Shangxue was busy with her career and had no time for family. She didn’t have the energy to maintain a relationship, let alone have a child.
Now that she had a child out of nowhere, Jiang Shangxue felt quite good about it.
However, every gain has a loss. The good mood didn’t last long, and Jiang Shangxue began to worry about Yun Wu’s situation at East Villa High School.
The male and female leads were also at East Villa High School and in the same class as Yun Wu. Yet, Jiang Shangxue currently knew nothing about Yun Wu’s situation at school. The college entrance exam was in less than three months. Abruptly arranging a transfer seemed inappropriate.
Perhaps she could consider a class change?
Jiang Shangxue leaned back on the sofa, lost in thought. Yun Wu came out after her shower and looked up to see her.
Her expression slightly stalled. Yun Wu suddenly stopped, as if her feet were rooted to the ground. Her body was so stiff she couldn’t move.
She lowered her gaze, slightly confused, avoiding Jiang Shangxue’s eyes. Her delicate, pale pink toes compulsively curled backward.
Jiang Shangxue reigned in her smile, understanding that Yun Wu was still shy and awkward. She stood up. “It’s getting late. Rest early.”
With that, Jiang Shangxue went into her own bedroom.
A moment later, Yun Wu let out a soft sigh, looking at the empty living room. A guess flashed through her mind.
Was Jiang Shangxue waiting for her?
With tightly furrowed brows, Yun Wu raised her hand to rub her earlobe, which was still faintly hot, and slowly walked back to her room.
That night, Yun Wu tossed and turned in bed, unable to sleep.
She covered her face for a long time, then flipped over and sat up. She smoothed her hair back several times before lying down again.
She turned her head to look at the clock: two in the morning. Yun Wu self-destructively buried her head deep into the pillow, a few muffled, cold laughs escaping her lips.
Jiang Shangxue was after the Yun Group. She couldn’t allow herself to feel moved or let down her guard in the slightest.
