Saving the Pitiful Villain (GL) - Chapter 9
On the twentieth day, Yun Wu returned to class in Class Two as usual, sitting in the very last seat on the innermost side of the classroom.
The desks in the class were arranged for two students, but the seat next to Yun Wu was always empty.
Some students from Class Two had witnessed the incident at the library last night. Seeing Yun Wu walk in, many people in the class gave her a second look, but still, no one spoke a word to her.
Yun Wu lowered her eyes, her gaze fixed on her book, paying no attention to the happenings in the classroom.
Her seat was right against the wall, receiving no sunlight and having no windows, making that area look dark. It was as if an invisible barrier had been erected, isolating her from everyone else.
The homeroom teacher of Class Two, surnamed Fang and named Fang Wenli, was distributing the last monthly exam papers, reading out names and scores in order of rank.
The last person was Yun Wu.
Fang Wenli mocked her openly in front of everyone. “Some people need to wake up now. Even if a chicken struggles out of the henhouse, it can’t fly onto a branch. Why must you shamelessly hold everyone back? With such low moral character, even before entering society, we know you will be a degenerate.”
Fang Wenli had prominent cheekbones and a sharp look. When she spoke in a high-pitched, thin voice, it was very grating.
It was obvious who she was referring to.
From the weekly exams to the monthly exams, and the joint exams, Fang Wenli would ridicule Yun Wu mercilessly every time.
In her view, Yun Wu had neither a background nor a family name, and her brain was slow. She dragged the class average down in every test. If she hadn’t had the bad luck to encounter her, she wouldn’t even deign to look at her.
After speaking about Yun Wu, she immediately put on a supposedly amiable smile and began to call out and praise the students with good family backgrounds.
Even if a well-connected student had poor grades, she would still find ways to praise them excessively.
Yun Wu quietly turned the pages of her book, recalling high school knowledge points and the college entrance exam questions from that year.
In truth, her grades were excellent. It was only after transferring to East Villa, where she struggled to adapt to the newer and more advanced teaching methods, coupled with the environment, that her grades plummeted.
Starting from scratch to pick up her high school knowledge was not difficult for the current Yun Wu.
She read very quickly. By the end of the second class, she had already finished reviewing the entire high school mathematics curriculum.
Peng Huahua, who hadn’t managed to teach Yun Wu a lesson at the library, had been watching Yun Wu throughout the class.
Seeing her look like a serious, studious pupil, she found it utterly ridiculous.
During the long break, Peng Huahua walked menacingly toward Yun Wu and slapped the book out of her hands.
“You mute! Are you just mute, or are you also blind and deaf?”
“How can a useless person fantasize about achieving anything with studying? Be a good girl and call me ‘Daddy.’ I’ll consider teaching you if you do.”
Yun Wu bent down to pick up the book, calmly wiping the pages clean and smoothing out the creases. She didn’t look up the entire time.
It was complete and utter contempt.
Some people around were watching the commotion. The ignored Peng Huahua felt extremely humiliated. She subconsciously prepared to raise her hand and hit her.
Zhao Changming glanced over when he heard the noise. He only saw a side profile—beautiful features, white skin.
Zhao Changming immediately felt an itch in his heart. “Peng Huahua, why bother arguing with her? She’s completely uninteresting.”
Peng Huahua’s hand froze mid-air. She turned to look at Zhao Changming, then shifted her gaze to Xu Chacha’s face.
Xu Chacha’s gaze shifted back and forth between Zhao Changming and Yun Wu. Her expression wasn’t pleasant. A vague sense of crisis suddenly rose in her heart.
Snapping back to attention, Xu Chacha managed a forced smile.
“That’s right, Huahua. Student Yun Wu doesn’t have a mother or father. Even if it’s just to take good care of her grandfather who collects trash, she should study hard and seize the opportunity to change her fate. You shouldn’t bully her.”
It seemed understanding, but every word stabbed at Yun Wu’s painful reality.
Without family backing and with failing grades, it allowed people to imagine that Yun Wu must have used some illicit means to enter East Villa.
Listening to the soft discussions around her, Xu Chacha’s expression gradually became pleased.
Yun Wu’s expression remained calm, deaf to the surrounding commotion, and she did not show the self-conscious, ashamed look Xu Chacha expected. Looking at Zhao Changming’s reaction, he also seemed aloof.
The smile on Xu Chacha’s face instantly faded.
Ye Mei walked into the classroom at this moment. She carelessly tossed her backpack onto the last empty seat in the class.
“Hey, Yun Wu, I’m your deskmate now.”
Before Yun Wu could say anything, Ye Mei clearly saw that Peng Huahua was standing next to her. Her eyebrows immediately furrowed.
“Peng Huahua, can’t you understand me? Yun Wu is my sister. Are you trying to bully her again while I’m gone?”
“Are you developmentally delayed or completely lacking a cerebellum? Do you need me to fix you?”
This was the first time Ye Mei had attended class properly this semester.
Peng Huahua immediately felt uneasy. She glanced at Zhao Changming and Xu Chacha. They were both sitting down, paying no attention to the scene.
Her face stiffened, and Peng Huahua could only retreat sullenly to her seat, defending herself stubbornly.
“I wasn’t bullying her.”
Ye Mei snorted disdainfully. When she turned her face toward Yun Wu, she immediately put on a bright smile, taking out a key card for the East Villa community as if asking for praise.
“You will absolutely love this apartment. It’s in a good location and cheap—fifteen hundred a month, with a one-month deposit and one month’s rent upfront. I’ve already paid the first installment for you.”
The Peppa Pig tattoo on Ye Mei’s arm wobbled with her movement. Yun Wu’s expression softened slightly, and she took the key.
“Are you sure it’s in the East Villa community?”
East Villa was a coveted school district in A-City where apartments were hard to find. Yun Wu knew the general price range for rent there.
Fifteen hundred was too cheap.
“Of course! I still have some pull,”
Ye Mei chuckled, automatically omitting the fact that the apartment agency was only willing to rent it out for that price once they heard the renter’s name was Yun Wu.
Since she had asked for help finding a place, and one with a good location and price had been found, Yun Wu didn’t ask further questions.
The next class was with the math teacher, who was the strictest and wouldn’t give anyone a break.
Yun Wu looked at Ye Mei’s empty desk and the backpack that seemed to be full of miscellaneous items. She hesitated for a moment and handed over her math textbook. “Thank you for helping me find the apartment. I’ll give you the money later.”
Receiving Yun Wu’s thanks put Ye Mei in a great mood, but she genuinely couldn’t focus on math.
Less than five minutes into the class, Ye Mei started whispering to Yun Wu.
“Peng Huahua is just asking for a beating. Do you want me to beat her up for you?”
Yun Wu shook her head. “No need.”
She lowered her gaze. Her dense eyelashes perfectly concealed the bone-deep chill in her eyes.
Yun Wu looked down on and disdained these petty acts of mischief. Peng Huahua’s pride lay in her family background and her decent relationship with Zhao Changming, Xu Chacha, and their group.
Yun Wu emotionlessly wrote down the two characters for Wushan on her notebook.
Peng Family’s Wushan Dairy.
Yun Wu couldn’t yet shake colossal entities like Hengyuan or Shengyan, but Wushan Dairy was already riddled with flaws…
She wanted to take revenge herself. She wanted Peng Huahua to watch as the things she cherished most slowly crumbled before her eyes, and there was nothing she could do to stop it.
That is the kind of despair that truly torments a person.
Author’s Note:
Hehehe, can you guess whose apartment Yun Wu rented?
