- Seducing and Flirting with Boss O While Stockpiling in the Apocalypse (GL)
- Chapter 10 - Why Did Someone Suddenly Move In?
The first thing Luo Sheng did after waking up the next day was check her phone. It seemed no one had noticed anything wrong with her group nickname, and the property management hadn’t caught on either. It was just the room number for the apartment across the hall, off by only one digit. In an ordinary apartment complex like this, why would they be so strict?
Thinking of that Wang Zhigang from yesterday, Luo Sheng couldn’t help but regret not doing some neighbor research before renting this place. Having someone like him living here would likely be a future problem.
It was a pity that she was pressed for time and simply couldn’t afford to waste any of it. She had rented the apartment as soon as she found one that was the right size and price.
However, based on the tone of the two people in the elevator yesterday, they likely already had an ongoing feud, which is why they exploded so easily. Luo Sheng recalled the group information: one lived in 0602 and the other in 0701. Given the direct up-and-down stairwell relationship, it wasn’t surprising that their temperaments clashed.
This morning, Luo Sheng didn’t go out to purchase items. Instead, she planned to take inventory of her existing supplies. After breakfast, she looked outside at the scorching sun. The temperature had reached a shocking forty-five degrees Celsius today.
Most businesses and schools had been forced to close. The streets were deserted; almost no one wanted to venture out in this weather.
Luo Sheng thought, and immediately entered the villa space. Seeing supplies everywhere on the floor, she had nowhere to step. She tip-toed to press the palm-print scanner and heard the screen announce that this was the fifteenth day of sign-in.
Inferring from the time of the last upgrade, the next expansion should be in five days, which would be after twenty consecutive days of sign-in.
Luo Sheng sat on the sofa, using her mind to control the movement of the supplies, sorting the food from the utility items. Of the three bedrooms on the second floor, one was dedicated to pasta, rice, and cooking oil. The other two were stacked with meat and vegetables, while the more spacious living room housed items like raincoats and inflatable rafts in designated areas.
Although not having to manually move the items was much faster, controlling so many heavy objects with her mind made Luo Sheng feel a bit dizzy. It seemed this ability consumed some mental energy.
Luo Sheng also had to manage her time. She tried her best to sort the supplies within two hours. The moment the time limit was up, she was immediately ejected from the space. Checking her phone, it was already past eleven o’clock.
It was just in time to prepare lunch. Luo Sheng thought about what she should eat today. She took out a piece of pork, a few green bell peppers, a cucumber, some lettuce, corn, and a few farmed shrimp from the refrigerator.
Once everything was ready, Luo Sheng washed the vegetables and shrimp, then boiled them in hot water, scooped them out, and placed them in a bowl on the side. Next, she mixed a sauce with light soy sauce, olive oil, apple cider vinegar, and black pepper. She poured it over the boiled vegetables and tossed it by hand. A simple, appetizing vegetable salad was ready.
Next, she washed and cut the green peppers, slicing them open and setting them aside. The pork was ground in a meat grinder and placed in a glass bowl. Cooking wine, oyster sauce, black pepper, and an egg white were whisked in and mixed to create the filling.
Luo Sheng meticulously squeezed the filling bit by bit into the pepper containers. After filling them, she heated the oil and pan-fried them until both sides were golden brown. She then poured the prepared sauce into the pan and reduced it over high heat before serving it on the table. The aroma was truly enticing.
Luo Sheng filled a bowl with white rice and had a few bites of the salad first. The fresh taste of the vegetables paired perfectly with the slightly savory dressing, instantly boosting her appetite.
She couldn’t wait to drizzle the sauce from the stuffed peppers onto her rice. Biting into the pepper and meat, the combination of meaty flavor and the fried aroma of the pepper was juicy and delicious, making it incredibly easy to eat.
In no time, the first bowl of rice was empty. Just as Luo Sheng brought a second bowl, a loud hammering noise suddenly erupted from next door, making her head buzz.
What is that noise?
Luo Sheng, who initially didn’t want to bother, finally couldn’t take it anymore after the noise continued for the tenth time. She put down her chopsticks and walked straight to the door, then squinted one eye to peek through the peephole to see what the apartment across the hall was up to.
Not looking wouldn’t have been a big deal, but looking almost made Luo Sheng’s eyes pop out.
She saw four or five sweaty construction workers going in and out of the apartment across the hall, 1502, carrying an extendable ladder and constantly moving bedding and furniture. Luo Sheng was astonished, practically gluing her eyeball to the peephole.
Why did someone suddenly move into the empty apartment across the hall??
Luo Sheng was speechless. The landlord had told her that because these two top-floor apartments were large and the rent was expensive, they had never been rented out, and she was the first tenant in nearly three years.
Luo Sheng had been planning to eventually take over both apartments when the apocalypse arrived since no one was living across the hall. But she hadn’t expected someone to suddenly pop up and rent it right now. Why would anyone rent it at this specific time?
With confusion, Luo Sheng opened her door. She slowly walked out, cautiously sticking her head out to observe the apartment across the way. The door of 1502 was wide open, making it easy for her to watch.
Besides the installers, Luo Sheng turned her head and saw a familiar figure: a woman in a V-neck chiffon short blouse with her hair in a bun stood out. When she turned around, her beautiful, seductive face was imprinted in Luo Sheng’s sight.
Unsurprisingly, it was Nan Shuwan.
Seeing Luo Sheng standing in the corner of her doorway, the surprise in Nan Shuwan’s eyes vanished in an instant. She walked straight toward Luo Sheng, her expression changing to a gentle, beaming smile. Her lips curved up, her smile very bright. “We haven’t seen each other in two days. I didn’t expect us to become neighbors so soon.”
Luo Sheng didn’t say a word. A trace of dissatisfaction solidified in her ink-black eyes. Her expression was full of resignation. She stared at her for a long time before finally saying, “Director Nan, do you really have to waste this meaningless amount of time on me?”
Tsk, she saw right through me. How boring.
Since returning from Luo Sheng’s home that night, Nan Shuwan had been non-stop thinking of countermeasures. Over the past two days, besides dealing with some trivial matters, she spent the most time thinking about the project.
Her boss had given her a direct order: she must secure Liu Xue as a client, or she shouldn’t bother keeping the Director position. This put enormous pressure on Nan Shuwan.
Although her boss was likely just trying to scare her into working harder, it was the first time in her years at the company that she had been criticized so heavily over a project.
Time was short; she only had one week. After much deliberation, Nan Shuwan went back to sweet-talk Liu Xue these past two days. The client actually granted her an extension, saying next month was fine, but only on the condition that she still brought Luo Sheng.
Nan Shuwan couldn’t understand what kind of spell Luo Sheng had cast on President Liu to make him so persistent, but at least she had successfully secured an extra month.
So, she didn’t hesitate, decisively renting the apartment across the hall. She was determined to wear Luo Sheng down. She refused to believe it. If she couldn’t persuade her in a month, Nan Shuwan would seriously have to question her own abilities.
Nan Shuwan raised an eyebrow, pretending not to understand. “Hmm? What time am I wasting? I just rented an apartment. I can live wherever I want. I don’t think I’m bothering anyone, am I, Miss Luo?”
With that, Nan Shuwan smugly glanced toward the apartment behind her twice, as if to say, What can you do about it?
Seeing her acting helpless, Luo Sheng sighed softly, not bothering to argue further. She only emphasized, “Director Nan, this is the last time I will address you as such. Regardless of the circumstances, I will not return to the company. Don’t waste your effort.”
Leaving this cold, firm statement, Luo Sheng turned and went back into her own apartment, giving Nan Shuwan no opportunity to respond.
Rebuffed by Luo Sheng once again, Nan Shuwan’s anger flared. Her chest heaved up and down. But even though she was grinding her teeth, there was nothing she could do, so she just cursed under her breath and angrily waved her hands a few times at the air.
She looked at the tightly closed door across the way, twirling a stray strand of hair around her finger. Then she narrowed her eyes and scoffed, the lingering sound of her cold smile giving one goosebumps. “Just you wait. I have all the time in the world to wear you down slowly.”
…
Back inside, Luo Sheng sat down at the dining table to resume her meal. The food that had tasted so delicious moments ago now tasted bland. It must be that Nan Shuwan affecting my mood.
The more Luo Sheng thought about it, the more irritated she became. She quickly ate a few more mouthfuls of rice and put the leftover food in the refrigerator. She couldn’t eat anymore but planned to save it for dinner.
The supplies for food and clothing were almost fully stockpiled, but Luo Sheng still hadn’t decided on what self-defense weapons to buy. After all, if she bought a large quantity of dangerous weapons, she would likely be targeted quickly.
The items she wanted to buy were also hard to obtain. Without connections, it was practically impossible. Luo Sheng lay on her bed, thinking about these things, feeling dizzy and bloated. She decided to take a nap, but the banging from the apartment next door was so loud she couldn’t sleep.
She rubbed her temples, growing more annoyed. Just then, her phone received a gentle reminder from the property management in the group: “It is expected that the maximum temperature in most areas of our city will rise above 45°C within the next 24 hours. Residents are advised to take precautions against heatstroke and cool down. Please minimize outdoor activities during peak heat hours. If you must go out, prepare for sun protection, and bring cooling medication and drinking water…”
Luo Sheng rolled over and turned the air conditioner down a few more degrees, her expression turning serious again.
This dreadful weather was expected to last for another half a month. She remembered the day before the torrential rain, the temperature reached around fifty degrees Celsius. No one could have predicted that the temperature would suddenly plummet to just a few degrees the next day. This unexpected and drastic shift caught almost everyone off guard, and the world was subsequently plunged into a flood disaster…
Luo Sheng’s already vexed mood was made worse by the noise next door. Covering her ears with a pillow didn’t seem to help. It seemed she would have to arrange for soundproofing foam as well.
In helpless resignation, Luo Sheng locked her bedroom door, took out her earphones, and plugged them in. The noise seemed to diminish significantly.
As the soothing ASMR sounds played through the headphones, Luo Sheng closed her eyes and gradually drifted off to sleep.
