The Alpha Daughter-in-Law's Whitewashing Journey in a Reality Show with Her Child (GL) - Chapter 11
The file Chu Siyun sent was very comprehensive and provided detailed information on each family, which was very helpful for Qin Shiyue, who wasn’t deeply involved in the entertainment industry.
There were five families in total, and all the other children were older than Chu Xiao.
The alcohol must have made her eyes sting, and she felt sleepy. It was better to just go to sleep and read it after she printed it out tomorrow.
The next morning, Qin Shiyue printed the file in the study and then silenced her phone. She couldn’t let that family affect her mood anymore. Although she had regretted it and felt repulsed at first, she had now accepted her wife and daughter. Qin Shiyue felt that her biggest goal in life now was to raise her child well and give her a good education.
On Saturday, after visiting the elderly, Qin Shiyue took Chu Xiao to an amusement park for the entire day. The following weekdays were just as orderly and stable. Life was calm and steady. This was already pretty good.
On Thursday night, Qin Shiyue was busy with her writing. At midnight, a flood of birthday wishes came into her phone. November 18th. Her 24th birthday. Qin Shiyue finished her work before replying to everyone’s messages one by one.
On Friday morning, Qin Shiyue woke Chu Xiao up to get ready for school. Chu Xiao opened her eyes sleepily, hugged her neck, and said, “Happy birthday, Mommy.”
Qin Shiyue smiled contentedly and kissed her daughter.
At noon, she was invited out for lunch by her two college roommates who were still in the same city. Even though they had graduated and were working in different fields, they were still close. Qin Shiyue raised her glass of soda to them. “Thank you both for taking time out of your busy schedules to celebrate my birthday.”
Shi Jialing, who was pursuing a master’s degree, said, “Tsk, we’re basically family. No need to be so polite.”
Qiu Yayu, who had worked with Qin Shiyue and was now a project manager for one of her projects, said disdainfully, “You’re a grad student. Can you watch your mouth?”
Shi Jialing waved her hand. “No harm done. I’m not that kind of pompous scholar.”
Qiu Yayu was confused. “What pompous scholar? Are you drunk from the soda?”
Qin Shiyue chimed in, “She probably meant that she doesn’t have the bad habits of some intellectuals.”
Shi Jialing winked at Qin Shiyue. “Old Qin, you get me.”
Qiu Yayu shot back, “What are you doing? Old Qin is married. Can you have some self-control?”
Shi Jialing’s face suddenly lit up with gossip. “Hey, Old Qin, I heard you’re going on a show with my goddess and Xiaoxiao?”
Qin Shiyue nodded.
Shi Jialing asked bluntly, “Weren’t you two forced into marriage because of the pregnancy? Aren’t you afraid of being exposed on the show?”
Qiu Yayu put a piece of meat on her plate. “What? Is food not enough to shut your mouth? Can you talk properly?”
Qin Shiyue thought for a moment. “I have a feeling.”
The other two looked at her with question marks on their faces.
Qin Shiyue continued, “Chu Siyun and I are probably going to…” She waved her hands in front of her chest, as if she couldn’t find the right words.
Shi Jialing put her chopsticks down. “Well, spit it out! You’re killing me.”
Qin Shiyue dropped the bombshell. “We’re going to have our happy ending.” She rolled her eyes at Shi Jialing. “I couldn’t find the right word, okay?”
Qiu Yayu and Shi Jialing both frowned.
Qin Shiyue asked, “What? Something wrong?”
Qiu Yayu shook her head. “No, it’s just that in my mind, you two have a normal relationship. How did ‘happy ending’ come into this?”
Qin Shiyue picked up a shrimp and started peeling it. “Ah, it’s a long story. You all know that we were forced into marriage because of the pregnancy, so there was no real love. We were just respectful to each other out of a sense of responsibility. If I wasn’t so helpless back then and had no other options, with her bad temper, I would have had a thousand fights with her. She had a child and didn’t even care. What kind of person does that? But lately, I feel like something is wrong with her.”
Shi Jialing asked, “What’s wrong with my goddess?”
Qin Shiyue eyed her. What’s wrong? What could be wrong? Of course, she was radiating springtime energy. It wasn’t her heat cycle, and it wasn’t a sickness. Something was definitely wrong.
Qiu Yayu put another piece of meat on Shi Jialing’s plate. “Sister, can you be more discreet? Does she have to report every intimate moment to you?”
Shi Jialing looked at her with contempt. “How am I not discreet? I’m just being honest. Unlike you, with all your schemes and tricks.”
Qiu Yayu suddenly remembered a key point. “If you two are having your ‘happy ending,’ your wife can’t be the only one making it happen. You’ve fallen for her, too, haven’t you?”
Fallen for her. That word was so… embarrassing. Qin Shiyue’s face flushed. “Well, the child is so big now, and we’ve been sleeping together for a few years. We go through her heat cycles together every month. It’s inevitable. Besides, it’s better to be serious with her than to find someone else to be serious with. I know her well. There won’t be any surprises, and I don’t have the energy to mess around. Plus, my daughter is my bottom line, and the child is hers, so she won’t cross that line no matter what.”
Qiu Yayu teased, “Have you ever heard the saying, ‘an explanation is a cover-up’?”
Qin Shiyue didn’t want to argue with an unreasonable person. It was like talking to a brick wall. She just felt that if she and Chu Siyun had a better relationship, it would be better for their family and their child. She was trying to explain the warmth of summer to two people who had a terminal illness.
After they finished eating and chatting, Qin Shiyue had her driver take her two friends home before going to pick up her child. On the way back, she picked up a cake. That night, Chu Dongnan and Meng Ruolan came over, and they celebrated as a family.
“Cut! Great. Congratulations, Siyun, you’re wrapped.”
The director’s assistant handed a large bouquet of flowers to Chu Siyun. Chu Siyun took photos with the director, the other leads, the supporting cast, and a big group photo. The process was long and complicated. She finished filming at 2 p.m., but it was almost 5 p.m. by the time she had her makeup removed and was ready to leave.
Xiao Chen had already packed everything and was just waiting for Chu Siyun. It was her family member’s birthday, so they had to rush back.
When she got into the car, Xiao Chen reported, “The fastest way to drive back is three and a half hours. It’s half an hour to the high-speed train station, and there’s a train in 45 minutes that’ll get us to the West Station in an hour and a half. It’s another half an hour from the West Station to home. All in all, it’s less than three hours.”
Chu Siyun rubbed her temples. “Okay, let’s take the train.”
Xiao Chen quickly bought the tickets. Thank goodness. She was able to get business class seats. It was the first time she had seen Chu Siyun so eager to get home that she would skip the wrap party. They managed to get into the station and onto the train just in time, and they didn’t get stopped by anyone. They were lucky. Once on the train, Xiao Chen contacted someone ahead of time. If they got stopped at the station exit, it would be over. It would be even worse if Chu Siyun got angry.
At a little past 7 p.m., Chu Siyun arrived at her house. Hearing the noise from the yard, Meng Ruolan stopped what she was doing. She was putting candles in a cake. “Shiyue’s friends are here?”
Qin Shiyue shook her head. “No. I ate with my friends at noon.”
Qin Shiyue got up to open the door. The person outside was reaching for the keypad to enter the password.
“Chu Siyun?”
Chu Siyun was about to say “surprise” when she saw her own mother behind Qin Shiyue. She smiled awkwardly. “Uh, I’m wrapped.”
Meng Ruolan couldn’t be bothered to even look at her. She turned back to the cake and continued putting in candles. Chu Xiao, however, heard the noise and happily ran to hug Chu Siyun. “Mommy.”
Chu Siyun saw the birthday hat on the child’s head and touched her hair. “Are you celebrating your birthday, too?”
Chu Xiao pulled her hand and led her inside. “Mommy got two birthday hats. Hehehe.”
Xiao Chen stood awkwardly by the door. What should she do? Was her boss’s relationship with her mother-in-law this bad? Was it better if she just left? And what was up with Miss Qin? Her wife and her mom were arguing, and she wasn’t helping? Chu Siyun had been so eager to get home for her birthday that she had taken different forms of transportation. Miss Qin’s approval rating was -100.
Chu Dongnan didn’t dare get involved in his wife’s and daughter’s “war” and sat quietly at the table. Chu Xiao was worried and tugged on her mommy’s hand. Qin Shiyue understood and stepped in as the mediator. “Mom, we have a guest.”
Meng Ruolan suddenly turned around and saw Xiao Chen by the door. She immediately put on a friendly smile. “Oh my, my eyes must be getting old. I’m so sorry.”
Xiao Chen couldn’t even speak. Why did this person have two faces? Was she a wolf in sheep’s clothing? Mommy, I’m scared.
Qin Shiyue helped her out. “Mom, this is Siyun’s assistant, surnamed Chen.”
Xiao Chen came back to her senses. “Haha, Auntie, you can just call me Xiao Chen.”
Meng Ruolan looked apologetic. “You must be so tired from your trip back, and we didn’t even prepare dinner for you. No, no. I’ll make you a bowl of noodles. It’s a northern-style noodle dish with gravy. Can you eat that?”
Xiao Chen nodded nervously.
Meng Ruolan turned and went to the kitchen.
The candles were in the cake but not lit yet. Qin Shiyue moved the cake to another table and cleaned up the dining table. “I’ll go help. It’ll be faster.”
Chu Xiao pulled Chu Siyun to sit down. “Mommy, did you and Grandma get into a fight?”
Chu Siyun pulled her onto her lap. “Mommy made Grandma mad before, and I haven’t been able to make her happy again.”
Chu Xiao thought for a moment. “Then I’ll help Mommy. I’ll definitely make Grandma happy.”
Chu Siyun patted her on the head again. “Okay.”
After a while, Chu Siyun put Chu Xiao down. “Mommy is going to wash her hands.”
Xiao Chen followed Chu Siyun. As they got further away, Xiao Chen lowered her voice and said bravely, “Sis, you have it rough.”
Chu Siyun was confused. “Huh?”
Xiao Chen said sympathetically, “I suddenly understand you.”
Chu Siyun was even more confused. What was she talking about? “What do you mean?”
Xiao Chen said, “No wonder your child is so cute, and your wife is so beautiful, but you still put work first and don’t care about your family. It’s because you have such a strange mother-in-law.”
Chu Siyun suddenly laughed. “What? That’s my mom. My own mom.”
