The Alpha Daughter-in-Law's Whitewashing Journey in a Reality Show with Her Child (GL) - Chapter 12
After hearing Chu Siyun’s explanation, Xiao Chen wanted to dig a hole and bury herself in it. Why was she overthinking things? The family was happy and perfect. This was so embarrassing.
After washing their hands, Qin Shiyue and Meng Ruolan came out with a bowl of noodles each. The bowl in Meng Ruolan’s hand had a lot of ingredients and a fried egg, which she placed in front of Xiao Chen. Chu Siyun’s bowl looked a lot simpler. It was bare.
Xiao Chen said cautiously, “Thank you, Auntie.” She hoped the auntie wouldn’t get mad at her after finding out she was Chu Siyun’s work assistant.
And Miss Qin! She even went to the kitchen to help but couldn’t be bothered to put more ingredients in Chu Siyun’s bowl. Seeing the stark contrast, Xiao Chen felt awkward, and the food in her mouth didn’t taste as good anymore.
Halfway through her meal, Xiao Chen suddenly noticed that Chu Siyun’s bowl seemed to have more in it, including a fried egg. No wonder. The ingredients were just hidden underneath. Why did she always overthink things? She had judged a righteous person with her own petty mind. Miss Qin was clearly so good to her wife.
The two of them finished their noodles in about ten minutes. The nanny came to collect the bowls, and Xiao Chen thanked her again. “Thank you so much, Auntie. It was delicious.”
Meng Ruolan’s smile was kind and warm. There was no trace of her snarky side. “As long as you like it.”
The cake was brought back to the table, and the nanny thoughtfully turned off the main lights, leaving only a dim floor lamp on. Meng Ruolan meticulously put in 24 candles, and she and Chu Dongnan lit them together. Chu Xiao wore a birthday hat and watched with her face propped up in her hands, as if it were her birthday.
Chu Siyun found the other birthday hat, adjusted the size, and tiptoed behind Qin Shiyue. She suddenly put it on her head.
Qin Shiyue turned around in surprise. “What are you doing?”
Chu Siyun adjusted the crooked hat. “It’s your birthday. You need to get into the mood.”
Qin Shiyue was about to refuse. “These are for kids.”
Chu Siyun called her out. “Then why did you bring two back?”
Qin Shiyue was left speechless.
Xiao Chen quietly watched from the side, a staunch CP fan. She had been for a long time. Her couple was so sweet.
After all the candles were lit, Xiao Chen suggested, “Ms. Chu, should I take a picture of your family? For the memories.”
Chu Siyun nodded. “Yes, please!”
Everyone else cooperated. Qin Shiyue stood in the middle, holding Chu Xiao, with Chu Siyun on one side and the older couple on the other. The family of five even looked a little alike when they smiled. Xiao Chen snapped away.
After the photos, they sang the birthday song. Chu Xiao had a loud, clear voice and sang the loudest. Everyone else chimed in softly.
After the last line, Chu Xiao looked at her mommy with starry eyes. “Mommy, make a wish.”
Everyone’s eyes were on Qin Shiyue. She symbolically clasped her hands together, closed her eyes, and made a wish. After just two seconds, Qin Shiyue said, “Done.”
Chu Xiao said happily, “Blow out the candles!”
Qin Shiyue invited everyone. “Let’s do it together.”
The 24 candles were extinguished, the nanny turned on the main lights, and Qin Shiyue started cutting the cake. In honor of Qin Shiyue’s birthday, Ms. Meng didn’t nag Chu Siyun anymore. After a few years, she had accepted it, but it just felt like something was missing if she didn’t get to nag.
After they finished the cake, Chu Dongnan and Meng Ruolan didn’t stay, and the driver took Xiao Chen home. The house was left with just the family of three.
At a little past 9 p.m., it was time for Chu Xiao to sleep. Chu Siyun volunteered to put the child to sleep, telling Qin Shiyue to go take a bath first. Qin Shiyue was happy to have the free time.
She first took off her watch and put it on the nightstand, then her rings. Her plain wedding band also went on the nightstand. She didn’t have a habit of wearing jewelry, so that was all she had.
She figured they might do something tonight, so Qin Shiyue didn’t even bother to put on pajamas. After her shower, she just put on a thick bathrobe and came out. She was right. Chu Siyun had already put the child to sleep and was sitting by the bed, fiddling with something.
Seeing her come out, Chu Siyun held up a small bag and greeted her. “Birthday present.”
Qin Shiyue ran her fingers through her hair. “What is it? Can I open it?”
Chu Siyun nodded. “Of course.”
The bag held a square box.
“A watch.”
Chu Siyun explained, “It’s a mechanical watch, a sporty one. I thought it would suit your style.”
Qin Shiyue took the watch out. “It’s very nice.”
Chu Siyun took the box back. “I’m glad you like it. I saw you were wearing a smartwatch outside, so I didn’t take this out. Smartwatches are more convenient. This kind of mechanical watch is more of an accessory.”
Qin Shiyue put the watch on her wrist. She was slender but had a good frame, so she looked very elegant. Chu Siyun watched, unsure if the watch made her hand look better or if her hand made the watch look better.
Qin Shiyue said, “Thank you. I love it. You should go take a shower now.”
After Chu Siyun went into the bathroom, Qin Shiyue took the watch off and examined it closely. The time was already set. Chu Siyun was very thoughtful. It was indeed a nice watch and it suited her.
She hadn’t heard anything about Chu Siyun coming back today, so it was a pleasant surprise. She wondered if she had finished all her work. Did she rush back on purpose, or was she just coming home? It must have been on purpose. She had a gift prepared.
This was their fourth birthday together, and it was the first gift Qin Shiyue had ever received from Chu Siyun. After their first birthday, they got married the next day. They couldn’t stand the sight of each other. Forget about gifts; it was a good day if they didn’t fight. Chu Siyun hadn’t been home for the next two birthdays.
Speaking of which, Qin Shiyue suddenly realized that tomorrow was their wedding anniversary. Chu Siyun had already given her a gift. Would it be bad if she continued to ignore all their anniversaries? Before, they had a silent agreement that they were just living together, and they would leave all this complicated stuff to whoever cared. But now it was different. It seemed necessary to celebrate.
Qin Shiyue found her college dorm group chat. There were only three of them in the dorm, all alphas.
Qin Shiyue: [Ding ding. Tomorrow is our wedding anniversary. What should I get my wife?]
Shi Jialing: [What do you usually get my goddess?]
Qin Shiyue was embarrassed. Could she tell them she had never gotten her a gift before? No way. There was a Chu Siyun fan in the group. She would get roasted.
Qiu Yayu: [You’re something else, sis. It’s your wedding anniversary tomorrow, and you’re just thinking about a gift now. I’m so impressed.]
Qin Shiyue forced the conversation back on track. [Ahem, we’re here to solve problems, not create more. So, what should I get my wife?]
Qiu Yayu: [Flowers? Clothes? Jewelry? What girl wouldn’t like those?]
Shi Jialing: [Good point. And you should get all of them. For a goddess like her, just one thing would look cheap.]
Qin Shiyue frowned in thought. Flowers? What kind of flowers? Roses? That felt too cheesy and sudden. Chu Siyun would laugh at her. Clothes? Did Chu Siyun look like she needed clothes? Besides, she wasn’t good at picking them out. It would be a waste of money if she made a mistake. Jewelry? That could work.
Two minutes later, Qin Shiyue ditched her two roommates who were still giving her ideas and opened a jewelry company’s website. It was better to buy something new than old. She would get the latest set. That would definitely not be a mistake.
She estimated the time. Chu Siyun should be out soon. Qin Shiyue quietly went outside to make a phone call. After placing the order and paying the deposit, she came back inside with a glass of water, trying to act casual.
Sure enough, Chu Siyun was out. Seeing the water in her hand, she just said, “You went to get water.”
Qin Shiyue took a sip and put the rest on the nightstand. “Yeah.”
Chu Siyun opened her suitcase. It was still early, so she started putting things away. Qin Shiyue leaned on the bed, looking at her phone. Other than the sound of Chu Siyun putting things away, the room was silent. The atmosphere was a little strange. It wasn’t surprising, though. The two of them had rarely been in this room alone. Chu Siyun had been so busy before that she had no time to come home. Even during the New Year, their family would go to her parents’ place.
Qin Shiyue tried to find a topic to talk about.
“Do you want to get hot pot tomorrow?”
“What are your plans for tomorrow?”
The two voices spoke at the same time. Chu Siyun reacted quickly. “Sure. It might be a little inconvenient, though. We’ll have to book a private room in advance.”
Qin Shiyue said, “That’s a small thing.”
After she started the conversation, it was easier to keep it going.
“We’ll eat lunch there. In the afternoon, we can go to those stores and get some clothes for Chu Xiao. Kids grow up so fast.”
“Okay. Anything else besides clothes?”
Qin Shiyue thought carefully. “If we have time, we can get a few more cars.”
Chu Siyun stopped what she was doing and turned to look at her. “Cars?”
Qin Shiyue explained, “Models. Xiaoxiao loves them.”
“Oh.” Chu Siyun continued tidying up. “Do you want a car? I can get you one.”
What?! She was just talking about the child. How did the topic suddenly shift to this? Chu Siyun was so generous. She was talking about giving away a car so easily. What a corrupt capitalist.
Qin Shiyue was too embarrassed to accept. “I don’t need one.”
Chu Siyun seemed to have gone deaf. “What kind do you like?”
Qin Shiyue didn’t want to talk.
Luckily, Chu Siyun didn’t keep pressing. Chu Siyun finished putting her clothes away and took out a few colorful books from her suitcase. “I bought a set of storybooks, too.”
Qin Shiyue took them and casually flipped through them. “Good. We can put them in her room tomorrow.”
The atmosphere today was pretty good. They seemed like a normal couple, discussing how to spend the weekend and talking about their child. Before 11 p.m., Chu Siyun finished putting things away and got into bed.
Qin Shiyue turned off the lights and said softly, “Sleep well. Good night.”
A few minutes later, Qin Shiyue felt the person next to her move. She heard the sound of something being torn. The person leaned in and whispered in her ear, “Are we just going to sleep?”
Qin Shiyue ignored her.
Chu Siyun was persistent and moved closer, almost pressed against her ear. “Seriously? Are you even a normal alpha?”
The scent of lemons entered her nose, but it was the skin on her neck that felt the stimulation. Qin Shiyue rolled over and pinned her down, tearing off her own inhibitor patch with her free hand.
“Then let’s not sleep.”
