The Alpha Daughter-in-Law's Whitewashing Journey in a Reality Show with Her Child (GL) - Chapter 6
She dialed the number, and it rang until it disconnected. No one picked up. Chu Siyun didn’t give up and dialed again. Finally, after five consecutive calls, Chu Siyun gave up.
Why is that person still holding a grudge? It wasn’t entirely my fault, really.
She was grumbling in her mind, but Chu Siyun dialed again. Unsurprisingly, no one answered. Chu Siyun tossed her phone aside and grabbed the script from her bedside table.
She’s not picking up, so what? Hmph.
About half an hour later, her phone rang. As expected, she was just busy; she hadn’t been intentionally ignoring her calls. But when Chu Siyun picked up the phone, she saw it was a call from the director, inviting her to dinner.
Since she had just announced she had a wife and daughter, and the paparazzi had even caught them visiting her, everyone wanted to meet them, so they had urged the director to arrange this gathering.
After putting the child to sleep, Qin Shiyue returned to her room and picked up her phone, which she hadn’t looked at all afternoon and evening. She was stunned when she turned on the screen. Twelve missed calls. Her phone must have been on silent at some point; she hadn’t gotten a single one.
Qin Shiyue grabbed a bottle of wine from the wine cabinet while she returned the call. The other side answered instantly. Before Qin Shiyue could even speak, the other person said, “I’m sorry.”
Huh? Qin Shiyue was confused. If anyone should be apologizing, it should be her for missing their calls.
No one answered her, so Chu Siyun carefully asked, “Are you mad?”
Qin Shiyue shook the wine bottle in her hand. “No, I’m not.”
Chu Siyun was so upset she started a list of accusations. “If you’re not mad, then why didn’t you answer my calls? Not in the afternoon, not in the evening. You must be unhappy because you’re getting cursed at after I went public. It’s all because of me. It’s all my fault. I’m sorry.”
Qin Shiyue’s senses were on alert. “Are you drunk?” she asked.
Chu Siyun gave the same answer. “No, I’m not.”
No? She definitely is.
Qin Shiyue didn’t like dealing with drunk people. She didn’t want to argue with her, especially since she’d probably forget everything when she woke up. “Get some rest. We can talk about everything tomorrow.”
Chu Siyun wasn’t having it. “No.”
Qin Shiyue took a sip of wine and played along. “Then what do you want to do?”
Chu Siyun lay on the bed, thinking. Yeah, what did she want? She didn’t know. All she knew was, “I don’t want to talk about it tomorrow.”
Qin Shiyue asked again, “Then what do you want to say?”
Another question. Chu Siyun asked herself again. What was she going to say? Why did she call?
“I’m sorry.”
Everything went back to the start. Qin Shiyue poured more wine into her empty glass. “It’s fine.”
Chu Siyun’s eyes lit up. “You forgive me?”
Qin Shiyue indulged her. “Yes.”
Chu Siyun was satisfied. “Okay, good. I’m going to sleep now. You should sleep too. Goodnight.”
Yep, you have to play along with a drunk person from the start, or you’ll never get rid of them.
Qin Shiyue downed the rest of the wine in her glass and went to the kitchen to wash it. She had slept too much during the day and couldn’t sleep now.
Qin Shiyue went to her study to finish putting together the keycaps she had started yesterday. After making sure every one was in place, she put away the keyboard she had been using for a week and replaced it with the new one. Her slender fingers flew across the turquoise keyboard, a beautiful sight to behold. Five minutes later, Qin Shiyue closed the software. Her mind was too restless to write anything, so she just considered it a keyboard test. She was wide awake and had no desire to sleep.
She decided to open the game “The Sims,” which was collecting dust in the corner. She created a new map, used a cheat code to get money, and started building a house for a sim named Chu Siyun. Chu Siyun was so fussy that the three-story villa would need a pool and a bathtub, and she would also have to add some greenery, or it would look too ugly.
To be honest, she had been a little angry this afternoon. The internet was so toxic. As Chu Siyun’s wife, she knew she would be criticized, and she had accepted that when she agreed to go public. But why did people have to talk about the child? The child was innocent. Whatever mistakes were made were theirs as mothers. Why would people say such vile things?
When Chu Siyun was pregnant, her parents had tried to persuade her to leave the industry and find a different job to take care of her small family. But from the beginning of her pregnancy until after the child was born, Chu Siyun was unmoved. As soon as she recovered, she jumped back into the “dyeing vat” of the entertainment industry without a second thought. If Chu Siyun hadn’t gone back, the child would have a more complete love, and none of this would be happening now.
Qin Shiyue couldn’t help but feel a little resentful towards Chu Siyun. Unfortunately, there were no “what-ifs.” Chu Siyun definitely loved the industry. After working so hard to reach her position, it was impossible for her to leave again for her family and child. She was unemployed and the child was still young, so they had to accommodate Chu Siyun.
She’d just have to wait. Time heals everything. People say the internet has no memory. Everything would be fine once this period passed. It was a good thing their daughter was still young and didn’t understand all the complexities. They would just pretend this negativity didn’t exist and live their lives as they had before.
The frame of the house was built, and now it was time to decorate. Qin Shiyue admired her masterpiece. Giving a house this good and this big to “Chu Siyun” to live in alone was just too much for her. The floor had to be black, the wallpaper red, the bed yellow, and the curtains dark blue. Finally, Qin Shiyue looked at the finished house and nodded with satisfaction. This was her usual style. It was perfect.
Qin Shiyue stood up and stretched. It was almost midnight. She needed to get to sleep. Tomorrow was the weekend, and she was taking the child to the hospital to see an elder. The person in the hospital was Chu Siyun’s grandmother, who had just celebrated her 80th birthday last year. Winter was coming, and old people’s immune systems were weak. It was a difficult time.
Chu Siyun sat in her makeup chair, feeling groggy, as the stylist worked on her face. Why did I drink so much at dinner last night? She wasn’t a bad drinker and wasn’t a heavy drinker either. Her head was still pounding. She had brought this on herself. From now on, she’d avoid any toasts she could. She must have been crazy to accept all of them.
Chu Siyun closed her eyes to rest. She had a full day of filming, and she couldn’t be in this half-dead state. What a mess.
Once she started working, Chu Siyun was alert. She put her heart and soul into her performance. This state was very charming. Xiao Chen watched on the side, feeling like her own understanding of the world was elevated.
Chu Siyun’s phone rang. Xiao Chen glanced at it. It was a message from her wife. She would tell her later. Xiao Chen had taken some time off yesterday morning to stock up on snacks and had even bought some small toys. But when she went to find Chu Siyun in the afternoon, she found that her wife and child had already left. It was so strange. Miss Qin usually stayed for two nights. Maybe it was because she had the child with her this time. Chu Xiao was really so cute. Even though she cried for her mommy last night, making Xiao Chen feel helpless, she still thought of Chu Xiao as a little angel.
After she finished filming, Chu Siyun took the phone Xiao Chen handed her. She drank some water while she read the message. Qin Shiyue had messaged her about a family matter.
[Grandma is in the hospital. She told us not to tell you.]
[She really misses you. It’s only a few hours’ drive back and forth, and the high-speed train is faster. Take a day to come and see her.]
There was a photo attached. An elderly woman with white hair was lying on a hospital bed in a patient gown, with many machines hooked up to her. The old woman’s face was thin, her lips pale, and she was saying something to the person sitting by her bed.
When Chu Siyun was a child, her parents were busy, so she lived at her grandmother’s house. Her grandma loved her very much. She was a great cook and could play the piano. She was a very talented person.
Chu Siyun messaged back “Okay.” Just as she was about to put her phone away, she saw a video call above the messages with a duration of 102 minutes.
What?!
Chu Siyun scrolled up and saw that the video call was preceded by many missed video call attempts. Including the one she connected to, there were sixteen in total. She remembered calling Qin Shiyue. How did it turn into a video call?
Chu Siyun checked her call history again. Yep, there were a dozen or so calls that didn’t go through, and then a three-minute call. So what was the video?
No wonder her head felt like it was going to explode this morning. Even with a hangover, after sleeping for more than ten hours, she should have recovered. The reason was she hadn’t gotten a good night’s sleep at all.
But what was she doing for those 102 minutes?
