The Anti-Alpha Protagonist is Exceptionally Biased Towards Me (GL) - Chapter 10
“Are you okay?” Gu Yu’s voice came from above her.
Zuo Jia’s face and the tips of her ears turned a bright red. Even though there was still a bit of a distance between them, the sudden closeness made her feel flustered. She spoke with a stutter, “I’m fine, thank, thank you.”
“Good, that’s good.” Gu Yu politely took a few steps back, creating some space between them. The air seemed to flow again, and Zuo Jia secretly let out a sigh of relief.
Behind them, Song Xinran’s brows were tightly furrowed, and she “tsk’d.” Looking at the two who seemed so close, standing opposite each other, an inexplicable irritation surged in her heart, like her heart was stuffed with damp cotton. It didn’t hurt, but it felt heavy and stuffy.
The feeling was completely baseless, and even she couldn’t explain it. Annoyed, she simply turned and walked away.
Gu Yu felt something and looked in that direction, only to see a back in a purple gauze dress disappear around the corner.
On the other side, Song Xinran hadn’t gotten far when she received a call from Xu Ru. “Xinran, where are you? I went to your house to look for you, and Aunt Jiang said you went out.”
Song Xinran tightened her grip on her phone, thinking of the scene she had just witnessed. The air pressure around her grew heavier. “The film set.”
“The film set?” Xu Ru was a bit surprised. “Your aunt’s crew? Didn’t you just go there a few days ago?”
“And don’t you dislike going to places like that? The last time you went was because your sister asked you for a favor, and you ran into that N9 drug incident. I thought you would never want to go there again.”
She knew very well that because of her status, almost every time Song Xinran went to a film set, people would try to get close to her, and most of them were alphas. Over time, Song Xinran grew to loathe such places.
“So, the sun rose from the west today?”
Song Xinran also knew her behavior was unusual, nothing like her old self. She felt a surge of frustration. “Just say I had a brain fart.”
She shouldn’t have come here. It was just an umbrella. She could have just sent someone to return it. Besides, the umbrella’s original owner probably didn’t even want it back. It was a complete brain fart to come to the film set!
Xu Ru’s face was full of question marks, but she was smart enough not to press further.
She brought up the reason for her call. “Want to hang out this afternoon? We haven’t gotten together in a few days. We can go to the bar Xianxian opened.”
Xianxian’s full name was Liu Xian. She was the only daughter of the Liu family in the capital. She was a gentle and refined-looking omega on the outside, but her personality was more rebellious than anyone else’s. She opened a quiet bar as a pastime. The group of them had a good relationship and would get together from time to time.
Song Xinran didn’t say anything. After a few seconds, Xu Ru on the other end of the phone heard her say, “Let me think about it first.”
Xu Ru: “Huh?”
Although she didn’t know what there was to think about, Xu Ru still said, “Okay.”
With a feeling she couldn’t quite explain herself, Song Xinran hung up the phone.
The azure umbrella was now quietly in her crossbody bag. It was light, and Song Xinran could still remember the way the alpha had walked toward her, holding the umbrella.
Even though she was in a sunny indoor space and the temperature was not high, Song Xinran felt a subtle heat rise from her heart.
She pressed her red lips together, feeling annoyed. This kept happening lately. She even wondered if there was something wrong with her body. The checkup she had before showed nothing. It seemed she needed to find time to get Dr. Shen to re-examine her.
As for the umbrella, she would arrange for someone else to return it, and with that, their relationship would be done.
After this thought, Song Xinran was about to leave. Just then, a somewhat familiar voice rang out in her ear.
“Miss Song.”
The voice was as cool as a stone in a mountain stream, with a refreshing coolness that effortlessly extinguished the frustration in Song Xinran’s heart.
Without a doubt, the person who called her name was Gu Yu.
Song Xinran’s breath hitched. She turned around, and what met her eyes was indeed Gu Yu’s face.
The alpha stood opposite her, quietly looking at her.
Song Xinran’s fingers tightened slightly. “Aren’t you with another omega? Why did you come running over to call me?”
The moment the words left her mouth, she regretted them a little. She felt like her tone was strange.
Gu Yu didn’t notice the flash of awkwardness on Song Xinran’s face. She was stumped by the question and didn’t know how to answer.
She hadn’t expected to see Song Xinran again so soon on set, but when she saw what looked like Song Xinran’s back, she didn’t think too much and her body had already started to follow. Now, facing Song Xinran’s question, she thought for a moment and decided to tell the truth:
“I came to the set to see you.”
The difference in status between her and Song Xinran was too great. The film set was the most likely place for her to see the other person, but now that she was here, she didn’t know what to say.
The alpha’s tone was very serious, like a solemn promise. But to Song Xinran, it sounded a little ambiguous.
Her heart felt as if it had been scorched by something. Her beautiful phoenix eyes suddenly showed a hint of being flustered. “You wanted to see me?”
“Thump, thump…”
The person who had always been so proud now didn’t dare to look into Gu Yu’s eyes. She could only lower her gaze and said with annoyance, “Why is your heartbeat so loud? It’s so noisy.”
After saying that, she turned around and walked away without waiting for a reply, her back looking a little hurried and disheveled.
Behind her, Gu Yu’s eyes showed a hint of confusion. Was her heartbeat really that loud?
But thinking of Song Xinran’s slightly flustered look, she found it a little funny.
This original character was quite cute…
On this side, Song Xinran walked a certain distance, making sure Gu Yu couldn’t see her, before stopping.
“Came to see me…” she mumbled the words to herself. Without even realizing it, a small curve formed on the corners of her lips.
“Tch, just because she wants to see me, does that mean I have to let her?” she scoffed.
“But, I forgot to return the umbrella to her just now. I’ll do it next time I see her.” She said, and after thinking for a moment, she called Xu Ru.
“Hello, Ruru. I’m not going to the get-together this afternoon. You guys have fun.”
“Huh? Just now you said you’d think about it. Why did you change your mind so quickly?” Xu Ru asked with curiosity.
Song Xinran unconsciously picked at the hem of her dress. Her eyes curved, and she said, “Yeah, I’ve decided to stay on set this afternoon.”
Xu Ru: “???”
If she remembered correctly, her good friend had just said that she shouldn’t have come to the film set. What happened to make her change her mind so quickly?
She was truly strange.
Because Gu Yu’s filming period was long, it was not convenient to go back and forth between her rented apartment and the film set. The crew of Path of Immortals was wealthy and had rented out an entire hotel building nearby for their accommodation during the filming period. Gu Yu would naturally be staying there during this time.
Considering that she would be mostly wearing fairy clothes for the shoot, Gu Yu only brought a few everyday outfits. When Li Ruqin found out, she was unhappy. After much talking, she insisted on bringing more clothes over for Gu Yu.
As she put it, “Things are different now. Wearing the same few outfits every day, people will think we’re poor, even though we are.”
Gu Yu: “…” Okay.
So, at noon that day, Li Ruqin came to find Gu Yu with big bags in her hands.
The hotel the crew rented required a pass to enter. To protect the privacy of the artists, the management was very strict. Gu Yu had to come down to pick her up. As Li Ruqin walked, she couldn’t help but sigh with emotion, “A big production is different.”
Once inside the room, Li Ruqin put the bags on the bed. Gu Yu didn’t have a habit of letting others organize her clothes, so she took them out and tidied them herself.
Li Ruqin mumbled by her side, “Now is not the time to be like before. You have to focus on acting. Why don’t you hire an assistant? It’ll be a lot more convenient.”
Gu Yu didn’t refuse. She said, “Okay.” She also felt that having an assistant would make many things much easier.
Li Ruqin mentally scheduled finding an assistant. She looked to the side. Gu Yu was still organizing her clothes. Her dark hair made her fair skin stand out, and the black beauty mark was eye-catching. She was certainly good-looking, but…
She seemed to have finally thought of something. After hesitating for a while, she finally asked, “Gu Yu, your acting… it should be okay, right?”
Her question was hesitant. It wasn’t that she didn’t care about her cousin; it was just that the other person had never taken on such a big role before. Plus, she had been busy with other artists, and she had almost forgotten that Gu Yu wasn’t a professional acting student. Now that filming was about to start, this fatal issue came to her mind.
Hearing this, Gu Yu retracted her gaze from the window and pondered for a moment. Thinking of the high praise from her fans and the compliments on the internet in her previous life, she gave a modest three-word reply: “It should be?”
Li Ruqin heard this and felt her vision go black.
After seeing off a worried Li Ruqin, that same night, Gu Yu received the newly revised script. She got a general idea of the plot and focused on her own scenes.
She had to admit that the new version was excellent. In the original script, her character, the young immortal, was still an ascetic.
Besides that, there wasn’t much other characterization. Her scenes weren’t many and were mainly focused on a crucial supporting character exposing the Wangyue Pavilion’s secret collusion with a demonic cult. The young immortal Fu Qian didn’t believe that the sect that had raised her for decades would do such a thing and got into a fight with the other person.
In the newly revised script, based on this, a separate storyline was added for Fu Qian. The Wangyue Pavilion was one of the most prestigious sects in the immortal world, with thousands of disciples who practiced sword arts to slay demons and monsters.
When Fu Qian was young, all her relatives died at the hands of demons. She was rescued by an elder of the Wangyue Pavilion. Because of her talent, she was taken back to the sect and began to learn the sword.
The experience of her family’s tragic death in front of her seemed to have stripped her of her last bit of emotion, leaving her with nothing but the sword. She didn’t care about anything else besides the Wangyue Pavilion, the place that had taken her in.
She was indeed talented. At a young age, she had already surpassed a large number of her peers and was considered a genius.
Later, someone exposed the collusion between the elders of the Wangyue Pavilion and the demonic cult. At first, Fu Qian didn’t believe it, but as more and more evidence was presented, she had to. She also learned that the very elder she had always supported was the one who had orchestrated the death of her parents.
Not only that, the elders had committed countless evil deeds over the years, causing many families to be ruined. In a short time, the Wangyue Pavilion went from a righteous sect to a despised group of villains.
The elders of the Wangyue Pavilion were killed by a coalition of other sects. Fu Qian, as the head of the Wangyue Pavilion’s first disciple, was spared because she had not participated in those evil deeds. But to prevent her from seeking revenge for the sect, they destroyed her spiritual root, ending her path to cultivation.
However, the elders of the Wangyue Pavilion had fallen, and the revenge of the cultivators was taken. But the immense hatred of the common people had nowhere to go. Because of the sect’s greed and selfishness, they had lost their families and their property. Their eyes were all red with hatred.
The now powerless Fu Qian became the primary target for their revenge. The genius who had been praised by all lived a life of misery for the next five years. Countless people transferred their hatred for the Wangyue Pavilion onto her.
But ironically, when a few demons later invaded, it was this same useless person, who had completely lost her spiritual root, who used her flesh and blood to resist and her entire body’s blood to draw talismans, protecting the city’s inhabitants and holding out until the cultivators arrived to help.
The ascetic was stubborn. Once she made up her mind about something, she would never regret it or turn back. When she was a genius, her goal was to uphold justice and slay demons and monsters. After her spiritual root was destroyed and she was tormented, this goal never wavered. Even if it cost her life, she would not regret it.
In the end, the people in the city were saved, the invading demons were dead, and she was dead, too.
Her body had run out of blood. She had been deceived and suffered when she was alive, and she died in a pathetic state.
After reading it, Gu Yu was immersed in the story and couldn’t get out of the emotion for a while.
The author of Path of Immortals had an excellent sense of storytelling and writing. It was easy to get drawn in.
Gu Yu had acted a lot in her previous life and had developed a good eye for choosing scripts.
Experience told her that this show would be a huge hit, and the character Fu Qian would also become famous.
That night, Gu Yu spent the entire night creating a character backstory and making notes. By the time dawn broke the next day, there was a faint tiredness in her eyes, but it was within an acceptable range.
Because the new script was a last-minute change, Liu Yanxi also knew that the timing was tight. She hadn’t had high expectations for Gu Yu. The character of Fu Qian was a good match for Gu Yu’s persona. All Liu Yanxi asked for was that her acting was not too bad and was passable.
To her surprise, Gu Yu gave her a pleasant surprise. During the screen test that morning, Liu Yanxi sat on a chair, surrounded by a few crew members.
Gu Yu stood in the center, in her casual clothes. She held a dark green prop sword. Her posture was already excellent. Just standing there with the sword, her eyes lowered, she had the air of a righteous and aloof sword cultivator.
Liu Yanxi’s heart was already halfway at ease. She said, “Start.”
Gu Yu moved. The moment she looked up, her presence changed. Although her face had the same lack of expression and she was wearing the same clothes, the look in her eyes told everyone present that the person standing there was no longer Gu Yu but Fu Qian.
She looked to the side, as if someone were truly standing there talking to her. Her tone was firm. “I don’t believe it. You’re lying. My sect could never collude with demons.”
She was screen-testing the scene where the important supporting character exposes her sect’s secret collusion with the demonic cult.
Fu Qian, who had always believed in her sect, drew her sword and pointed it at the other person. The look in her eyes was cold, with a chill that seemed to penetrate the body. “If you keep lying, don’t blame me for being impolite.”
In the empty space, there was only the “shush” of a machine. It seemed like someone was flipping through something. Fu Qian’s eyes gradually changed from coldness to a blank stare. In the depths of her eyes, there was still a hint of unwilling denial.
“I don’t know where you found this so-called evidence, but my sect has always been dedicated to slaying demons and helping the world. You must be mistaken.”
“This is fake. I don’t believe it.”
From initial denial to hesitation and finally to the collapse of her belief, Gu Yu flawlessly performed the emotional transition.
Fu Qian seemed to have truly come to life from the words on the page, and the people watching couldn’t snap out of it for a long time.
Clap, clap, clap.
In the quiet atmosphere, a sudden round of applause rang out. “She acted very well.”
The sound was like a stone thrown into a calm lake, instantly creating ripples. The people finally came back to their senses and began to praise her. “Ms. Gu’s acting is really good.”
Liu Yanxi’s eyes were filled with admiration. She felt like she had found a treasure and felt more and more that adding these scenes was the right decision. “Gu Yu, you were great.”
Gu Yu, however, just felt that the very first voice was a little familiar, but she couldn’t remember where she had heard it.
The owner of the voice appeared behind Liu Yanxi, who was sitting in the center, and her body was partially blocked by her.
Before Gu Yu could recall where she had heard the voice, Liu Yanxi spoke again.
“You’re here. Gu Yu, come here. Let me introduce you. This person just joined the crew today, and you two will have a lot of scenes together. Make sure to practice more with each other.” Liu Yanxi moved to the side, revealing the person behind her.
“Ming Xin, Ms. Ming.”
