The Anti-Alpha Protagonist is Exceptionally Biased Towards Me (GL) - Chapter 22
The auxiliary system’s alarm had long since stopped. In the dim room, only their spot was lit.
In the center of the light, the two of them were still embracing, like two small boats relying on each other on a tumultuous, rolling sea.
The omega’s body was soft. Perhaps because the window wasn’t closed properly, her exposed skin felt a little cool.
As their skin touched, Gu Yu felt her body temperature and asked, “Miss Song, are you cold?”
Song Xinran pursed her lower lip where Gu Yu couldn’t see and said, “I’m not cold.”
But the next second, a gust of wind blew in through the window that had just been opened. She couldn’t help but shiver.
—From the cold.
“…” She tried to save face. “I’m really not cold.”
But her actions were honest. She unconsciously arched her head and buried it deeper into Gu Yu’s embrace.
Perhaps because of the contrast in temperature, she felt Gu Yu’s embrace was very warm, so warm that she was reluctant to pull away.
It was strange. She actually had her jacket with her, right there in the hotel room. But she didn’t want to get it, because that would mean this embrace would end.
She was a little attached…
Gu Yu sighed in her heart, with a mix of helplessness and indulgence. She said, “Miss Song, I’m a little cold. Can I go close the window?”
The person in her arms hesitated, then slowly pulled away.
Gu Yu was worried that Song Xinran would get scared again if she walked away. She asked, “Do you want to use your phone’s flashlight? It won’t be so dark.”
Song Xinran lowered her eyes. “It’s dead.”
On the way to the hotel, because Gu Yu had been sitting next to her, she had felt a strange panic and nervousness. She could only distract herself by playing on her phone. It died not long after they got to the hotel, and she hadn’t had a chance to charge it yet.
A look of understanding crossed Gu Yu’s eyes. She had been wondering why Miss Song, if she was scared, hadn’t contacted anyone else. It turned out her phone was dead.
She put her phone into Song Xinran’s hand. “Use mine. I’ll go close the window.”
The downside of a big hotel was this: The fifth floor, as the best floor in the whole hotel, had very large, but also very empty, rooms. They were near the door, and closing the window required walking a considerable distance.
As soon as she turned around, her pant leg was grabbed.
Song Xinran held the phone in one hand and her pant leg in the other. She didn’t look at her, a little awkward. “Aren’t you afraid of the dark? Let’s go together.” She still remembered what Gu Yu had just said.
Gu Yu was stunned. She almost forgot the excuse she had just made up. She agreed to Song Xinran’s suggestion.
The two of them maintained this posture, one in front of the other. Their shadows were cast on the wall at a specific angle, looking very close, with only a finger’s width of space between them, giving the illusion of intimacy.
The alpha walking in front didn’t notice this, so Song Xinran’s heart felt warm. She inexplicably took a small step forward.
The finger’s width of distance disappeared, and their two shadows overlapped, becoming one.
After the window was closed, the wind in the room disappeared.
Song Xinran was dressed too lightly. The off-the-shoulder silk shirt looked like it was made of a very thin fabric and offered no protection against the wind. Gu Yu’s eyes scanned the room and saw a light purple casual jacket draped over a chair. She took it and placed it over Song Xinran’s shoulders.
Her body gradually warmed up. The hotel’s power still hadn’t returned. As Song Xinran wore the jacket, the alpha’s thoughtful gesture made her heart skip a beat. It took her a while to remember that she had forgotten to say “thank you.”
A faint, almost imperceptible smile appeared in Gu Yu’s eyes. “You’re welcome.”
With the little bit of light from the phone, they sat down on the bed and waited for the power to come back.
With the window closed, the sounds from outside were muffled. The empty room no longer felt so desolate with one more person in it.
Song Xinran’s tense body gradually relaxed. Perhaps the atmosphere was too quiet, so she spoke.
“Gu Yu, that cat of yours… it doesn’t have a name yet.”
Xu Ru had once asked her curiously, “You always call it ‘cat, cat, cat.’ Why don’t you give it a name, even a temporary one? It’s better than just calling it ‘cat’.”
At the time, Song Xinran didn’t tell her that because the cat belonged to Gu Yu, she had a selfish thought: She wanted Gu Yu to name it herself.
“A name?” Gu Yu was stunned for a moment. She had never thought of naming that cat. After all, she didn’t have the energy to raise a cat, and it was destined to be given away. A name would create a bond, and with a bond, she would be reluctant to let it go.
“Yes.” Song Xinran seemed to know what she was thinking. “Even a temporary one is fine. Otherwise, you’ll never know what to call it.”
Gu Yu felt a little avoidant. “I’m not good at naming things, Miss Song. You can just call it whatever you want.”
But Song Xinran didn’t say anything. Gu Yu looked at the person next to her with a hint of confusion, but she met a pair of serious eyes.
Miss Song was just looking at her. She wasn’t speaking, but it gave the feeling that she was stubbornly waiting for an answer.
Three seconds later, Gu Yu seemed to have given in. Her shoulders relaxed. “Then… let’s call it Xi Xi, the ‘xi’ from sunset.”
“Xi Xi?” Song Xinran’s eyes curved. “That’s a very nice name. Why did you choose that one?”
Gu Yu said, “Probably because I found it in the evening.”
And also because “xi” as in sunset, when combined with another character, can form the character “duo,” meaning “many.” Even though it was a cat, she didn’t want it to be like her, an extra existence from the moment she was born.
The topic came to an end, and the air returned to silence.
After a moment, Song Xinran spoke again. “I wonder when the power will come back on.”
Gu Yu: “Maybe it’ll be out for the whole night. It’s raining heavily outside, and there’s still thunder. It wouldn’t be convenient to repair the wiring even if it was struck by lightning.”
As if to prove her words, the next second, another thunderclap sounded outside. It was so loud it felt like it could shake the entire building.
Song Xinran was unprepared. She shivered violently, and her face went a little pale.
Gu Yu didn’t know what she was thinking. By the time she reacted, she had already reached out and covered Miss Song’s ears with her hands.
“…”
Both of them were stunned, and the atmosphere became awkward.
Song Xinran looked up in that position. In the faint light, she could see her wide eyes, filled with surprise and astonishment.
“W-what are you doing?” she stuttered, ungracefully.
Gu Yu pursed her lips. After the thunder passed, she took her hands away and said, “I’m sorry.”
The tips of Song Xinran’s ears, hidden by her fine hair, were burning. She felt as if Gu Yu’s palm temperature was still lingering on her ears. She was glad that the night covered them, so Gu Yu couldn’t see her flushed ears.
She said awkwardly, “…You didn’t do anything wrong. Why are you apologizing?”
Song Xinran rarely had dreams, but on this stormy night, she dreamed of her past, of when she was a child.
The scene in the dream was at the elite elementary school she attended. After school, a group of alphas from her class locked her in a supply closet with brooms. No matter how much she knocked and yelled, it was no use.
Because she was a premature baby, she had always been thinner and weaker than other children her age. After only a little while of knocking on the door, she ran out of strength.
••••
Outside, the group of people were yelling.
“Hmph, my dad said I should be friends with her, but I don’t like her at all.”
“The teacher praised her today. Why does an omega get more awards than me? There must be a conspiracy.”
“What if we lock her in here for a night? Let her know who’s boss.”
“But what if she goes back and complains? She’s from the Song family. My mom said we can’t mess with her family.”
“You’re such a coward. Are you even an alpha anymore?! If she goes back and complains, is there any proof it was us? I already had someone pull the surveillance plug, hmph.”
“I don’t care. If I don’t lock her up for a night today, I won’t be satisfied!”
After that, the group’s voices slowly faded away.
She stayed in the supply closet, crying and knocking on the door, but no one came to save her.
“No… no…” A faint murmur sounded. The omega on the bed was frowning, not sleeping peacefully.
Thunder rumbled outside. The power still hadn’t returned. In the darkness, Gu Yu opened her eyes.
She was sitting by the bed, looking at the sleeping Song Xinran. The other person was probably too tired and had unknowingly fallen asleep while they were chatting.
Her sleeve was tightly clutched in Song Xinran’s hand. As soon as she moved, the other person reacted strongly.
“Let me out…” Her lips mumbled, but the words were hard to make out.
“Miss Song?”
Because of the long use of the flashlight, Gu Yu’s phone, which already had a low battery, had died and shut off. In the darkness, she couldn’t see Song Xinran clearly, so she had to grope her way closer.
“Someone… someone help me…”
“What? Help who?” Gu Yu vaguely heard some words and leaned in to hear more clearly.
The next second, the person on the bed suddenly reached out, wrapped an arm around her neck, and pulled her down. Gu Yu was caught off guard and fell on top of Song Xinran. Her lips landed on a soft, delicate spot, and she felt a faint wetness.
It was the corner of Song Xinran’s eye.
Gu Yu’s attempt to struggle froze. Miss Song… was she crying?
While she was frozen, the other person held her tightly, like a drowning person grabbing onto a final lifeline.
“I’m scared… I’m really scared…”
“Miss Song…” Gu Yu stopped her attempt to get up. In the end, she let the person below her continue to hold her.
“It’s so dark. I’m so scared…”
She reached out and gently wiped the tears from the corner of her eye with her thumb. “Don’t be scared. Don’t be scared…”
In the thick darkness, the alpha’s voice surprisingly held a few hints of tenderness.
••••
“Last night, a bolt of lightning just happened to hit the power line, and the whole hotel lost power. Luckily, there was no fire, or it would have been dangerous,” Liu Yanxi’s voice on the set revealed her helplessness.
“I’m starting to wonder if someone put a curse on me. Why else would my luck be so bad lately?”
“It’s really a hassle for you, Miss Guan. You had to rush over from the capital to deal with my issues on your one day off.”
Across from her stood a tall, mature, and capable woman wearing a brown-and-tan ruffled silk top and a black business skirt. It was Guan Licen.
A smile was on her lips. She said, “Director Liu, you’re too polite. This is my job after all.”
“I’ve already arranged for security here. Until the troublemaker is caught, these people will stay with the crew.”
Liu Yanxi rubbed the bridge of her nose, a hint of gratitude in her voice. “You’ve worked so hard, Miss Guan.”
Guan Licen shook her head. It was still early, and she had no plans to return yet. She said, “Director Liu, do you mind if I look around?”
Liu Yanxi said, “Of course not.”
She declined Liu Yanxi’s offer to have someone show her around and began to look around on her own.
Most of the scenes here were filmed outdoors. She had to say, as a tourist spot, the environment was very nice.
Before the actors even arrived, the crew had already set up the scenes to increase efficiency. However, because of the heavy rain last night, some areas were a mess.
Passing through some of the crew members, she saw a familiar figure a few steps away. She stopped in her tracks and smiled meaningfully.
Gu Yu.
