The Anti-Alpha Protagonist is Exceptionally Biased Towards Me (GL) - Chapter 23
“Gu Yu,” she had indeed called out.
The alpha not far away heard her name, turned around, and revealed that cold face, like a snow-capped mountain.
The early morning sun had risen, and a beam of light passed through the gaps in the leaves, falling right below the tear mole near her eye.
It was a stunning beauty one couldn’t bear to disturb.
A flicker of surprise flashed in Guan Licen’s eyes. Although she knew the person opposite her was a kept woman and a scammer who had conned people online, she had to admit, that face really hit all her aesthetic points.
She suddenly felt that if Gu Yu could maintain this aura, it wouldn’t hurt to pay some money to continue their ambiguous relationship.
Gu Yu, on the other hand, was completely unaware of what was going through her mind. When she heard someone call her, she subconsciously turned around and saw Guan Licen standing a few people away.
She remembered her, the Manager Guan she had met on the set a while ago. They weren’t close. Although she didn’t know why the other person would suddenly call her name, Gu Yu politely responded, “Hello, Miss Guan.”
“Hello. It’s quite a coincidence to see you here,” Guan Licen said, her smile deepening. Unlike the polite, formal smile she gave to others, this smile was like she had found a coveted prey, full of interest and scrutiny.
Guan Licen looked at her and asked, “Didn’t you sleep well last night?”
She noticed in detail that Gu Yu was wearing her casual clothes today. Up close, her face looked un-made up and had a hint of fatigue.
Last night?
As if a trigger word had been spoken, a few fragments of last night flashed uncontrollably through Gu Yu’s mind.
She had barely slept. Song Xinran had held her very tightly, and it was only in the morning that she had carefully managed to break free.
While thinking about these things, she didn’t show any emotion. She said, “I’m just not used to it. Did you arrive this morning, Miss Guan?”
“Yes, I came here to arrange for security. I’ll be going back to the capital this afternoon.”
Gu Yu responded. She and Guan Licen were not familiar at all, and by all accounts, the conversation should have ended there.
But Guan Licen didn’t follow the usual script and added, “I heard you don’t have to film this morning. Would you mind being my guide and showing me around?”
This was a clever way of blocking any chance of refusal.
A lot of people nearby were already looking over curiously. Under so many eyes, it would be inappropriate for her to refuse.
Gu Yu pursed her lips slightly, about to agree, when a clear voice suddenly sounded from behind her.
“Manager Guan, I’m so sorry. Screenwriter Zuo Jia just asked me to call Gu Yu over. There’s a slight adjustment to the scene we’re filming this afternoon.”
Ming Xin’s voice was smiling, and the look on her face was polite and sincere. But there was no hint of a smile in her apricot-shaped eyes. “How about I have my assistant show you around, Manager Guan?”
Guan Licen showed her understanding. “Oh, I see. That’s okay. Since Gu Yu doesn’t have time, it’s no trouble.”
Their attitudes were very polite, but as they looked at each other, there was a feeling of confrontation, filled with an invisible air of tension.
Guan Licen looked at Ming Xin, then suddenly shifted her gaze to Gu Yu and said, “I feel like I have a good connection with Miss Gu. How about we exchange contact information?”
The expression in her eyes was quite meaningful.
With the conversation at this point, it was hard for Gu Yu to refuse. She took out her phone. The hotel’s power had been repaired in the early morning, and her phone was now fully charged.
Guan Licen took out her own phone, displayed a QR code, and held it out to Gu Yu.
Gu Yu’s phone vibrated slightly, indicating a successful scan.
But the page that appeared made her expression freeze, and her heart sank.
After the phone successfully scanned the QR code, the button at the bottom didn’t say “Add Friend.” Instead, the four large, glaring characters “Send Message” were displayed.
The implication was obvious: She and Guan Licen were already friends.
And the name the phone’s owner had saved was “Older Sister Guan.”
This nickname was all too familiar to Gu Yu. “Older Sister Guan” was one of the original owner’s sugar mommas, who had a lot of money and spoke little. She was one of the three rich older sisters the original owner had conned online.
“Older Sister Guan” was none other than Guan Licen.
This was an unexpected discovery. Gu Yu was a little stunned. Is this world a little too small? she thought.
First Ming Xin, and now Guan Licen. Two of the people the original owner had conned online were now right by her side.
She even had a ridiculous thought: Will there be a third one?
She looked up and met Guan Licen’s eyes. The other person was still holding out her phone. From Guan Licen’s angle, she could clearly see the content on Gu Yu’s phone screen, but she didn’t show any surprise.
These signs indicated that the other person had known this and her identity for a long time.
“What’s wrong, Gu Yu? Why are you suddenly spaced out?” Ming Xin, a few steps away, asked in confusion. Seeing that the two of them were still looking at each other, as if they had taken a liking to each other, she couldn’t stand it anymore and walked toward them.
Gu Yu noticed her movement and instinctively pressed her phone, turning off the screen.
“Nothing,” she said, her expression unchanged. She put her phone away.
“Okay.” Ming Xin still looked a little suspicious. She felt that the atmosphere between Gu Yu and Manager Guan was a little strange. If she had to describe it, it felt like the air around them had solidified.
This gave her a bizarre feeling of being excluded and dissatisfied. She couldn’t help but say, “Then let’s go. Screenwriter Zuo is still waiting for us.”
“Okay.” Gu Yu glanced at Guan Licen.
Guan Licen looked back and gave a small wave with her phone in the air. “We’ll talk later.”
Her tone was very meaningful.
“…”
After the three of them were gone, the crew members around them dared to speak.
“What were Manager Guan and Teacher Gu and Teacher Ming talking about? The atmosphere seemed really tense. I was watching from the side and didn’t even dare to breathe.”
“I don’t know. I was too far away. I didn’t hear what they were talking about. I just saw Manager Guan take out her phone.”
“Me too. I couldn’t hear a thing.”
“I was closer. I heard a little. I vaguely heard a few words, like ‘Yinlu’ and ‘ad… circle’ or something.”
“‘Ad circle’?” someone said subconsciously.
The person who had just spoken immediately confirmed it. “Yes, yes, that’s it, ‘ad circle,’ and ‘Yinlu’ and ‘ad circle.’”
“‘Yinlu’? Are you sure you didn’t hear it wrong?” She remembered Yinlu was a brand of children’s diapers. It didn’t seem to have any connection to single AOs like Gu Yu and Ming Xin.
Someone’s brain started working. “Why would Manager Guan suddenly mention Yinlu, and to Teacher Gu and them?”
Someone guessed, “Maybe Manager Guan wants Teacher Gu and Teacher Ming to take on a commercial for this brand?”
“How is that possible? Can you imagine Teacher Gu’s cold face endorsing children’s diapers? I can’t, anyway. Manager Guan is a senior manager at Xingchen Entertainment. She wouldn’t arrange a brand that doesn’t match the actor’s image.”
“But I saw Manager Guan take out her phone and have Teacher Gu scan it. Weren’t they adding each other as friends and sending the relevant contract?”
That person was speechless. “…How would I know? I didn’t hear what they were saying.”
Meanwhile, Gu Yu had no idea that the scene she had just been in had been misinterpreted by a hard-of-hearing crew member and was now developing in a very ridiculous direction.
She and Ming Xin walked through the crew, and Ming Xin was talking beside her.
“Did you really add Manager Guan’s friend? I saw you scan the code. When I tried to add you last time, you changed the subject.” There was a hint of unspoken dissatisfaction in her tone. Every time Gu Yu changed the subject, she would actually be easily led astray.
Gu Yu was speechless. The last time Ming Xin wanted to add her as a friend, she had indeed changed the subject. After all, she already knew Ming Xin was one of the original owner’s sugar mommas.
As for Guan Licen, she really hadn’t expected the other person to be one of them as well. If she had known in advance, she would have handled it the same way.
“Why aren’t you talking? What are you thinking about?”
Gu Yu came back to her senses and chose to tell a small lie. “I was just thinking about what Screenwriter Zuo wants from us.”
When Song Xinran woke up, the day was already bright. Unlike the heavy rain last night, the weather today was beautiful. The sky was a clear blue, and the sun shone into the room through the uncovered windows.
She sat up, her mind still a little hazy.
The content of last night’s dream still lingered in her mind. It had been a long time since she had dreamed of the past.
She remembered being locked in the supply closet by that group of alphas. No one noticed she was missing. Her family’s driver thought she had gone with Xu Ru. After all, she didn’t like to wander around much because of her health, so there was no need to worry about her getting lost.
As for her family, there was no need to mention them. They were too busy with work and rarely came home. Her beta older sister was living a boarding school life at an elite middle school at the time.
She was locked in the supply closet for a whole night by herself. It wasn’t until the next day during class that someone found her there.
Although the kids who locked her up had pulled the surveillance plugs, their actions were full of flaws because they were so young, and they were easily found out.
Because of her identity, the homeroom teacher didn’t dare to be vague and immediately notified the parents of all the people involved.
The driver was fired, and the group of alphas was beaten half to death by their families. Then, they all sent expensive gifts as an apology, afraid of a slow reaction that would lead to retaliation from the Song family.
Facing the group’s fawning, Song Xinran only felt a sense of irony at the time.
Even those people had parents who came to school, while she could only ever get through to her assistant’s phone.
The supply closet at night in her dream was terrifying. It was so dark that she couldn’t see her own fingers, and so quiet that she could only hear her own breathing.
Every time she relived that moment in her dream, she would feel like she couldn’t breathe. But this time, it was different. In the second half of the dream, she even felt a sense of warmth, as if someone was holding her, wiping the corners of her eyes repeatedly, stroking her hair, and telling her, “Don’t be scared…”
And that voice in the dream sounded a little familiar, like Gu Yu’s voice.
Thinking of that alpha, her heart stirred. She couldn’t help but look around the room.
But she didn’t see anyone. Gu Yu must have already left.
An uncontrollable feeling of disappointment arose within her.
She casually put on the light purple jacket from last night, pushed open the hotel room door, and walked out.
The weather was great today, and she was in a pretty good mood. But the next second, she heard people talking.
“I heard that after this show, Teacher Gu and Teacher Ming are going to take on a commercial for Yinlu. That’s right, Yinlu, the children’s diaper brand.”
What?
Her good mood came to an abrupt halt. Song Xinran’s face immediately turned dark. She gritted her teeth in anger.
Good for you, Gu Yu. You turned down all those endorsements and film resources I offered you, but you’d rather go and do a commercial for children’s diapers with Ming Xin!
