The Anti-Alpha Protagonist is Exceptionally Biased Towards Me (GL) - Chapter 4
[Ding—Crisis averted.]
[Insufficient energy. 087 will re-enter dormant mode.]
Two consecutive robotic voices rang out. Hearing the first one, the tension in Gu Yu’s heart eased slightly.
The palm of her hand felt warm and soft. Realizing she was still holding Song Xinran’s hand, Gu Yu instinctively let go.
Because of her habits, she rarely had such close contact with others. Now that she had let go, her hand still seemed to hold the warmth of the other person, which made her press her bottom lip together, feeling a bit awkward.
“Sorry,” she said unconsciously, not forgetting to emphasize again, “Don’t touch that. There’s something wrong with the bottle.”
The person in front of her spoke with a tone of sincerity. Two strands of her tied-up hair had fallen, the same ones that had just brushed against her cheek. The beauty mark was striking, and those dark, bright eyes were quietly watching her, making Song Xinran feel a slight heat spread through the spot where she had been held, also bringing her mind back to the present.
She remembered her—the conspicuous alpha on the set not long ago.
Their proximity was too close for her comfort, so she instinctively took a few steps back.
“Stay away from me.”
It was the same phrase as before, but this time, for some reason, it lacked its usual force.
Meanwhile, the beta on the opposite side, upon hearing Gu Yu’s words, instantly changed his expression and spoke with a hostile tone.
“Who are you? Where did you come from? Don’t make up nonsense!”
He looked very agitated and instinctively hid the water bottle he was holding behind his back.
A person’s subconscious movements couldn’t be faked. This abnormal behavior was fully noticed by Song Xinran. She was no fool and immediately understood what was happening. Her heart sank.
Facing the beta’s questioning, Gu Yu’s expression remained cold. She didn’t say much, simply standing in front of Song Xinran to ensure the other person had no chance of getting to her.
The two sides were in a temporary standoff. Protected behind Gu Yu, Song Xinran’s grip on her phone tightened. Taking advantage of the cover, she sent a few messages.
She had many questions, but now was clearly not a good time to ask them.
The beta likely wasn’t an actor from the crew. He was wearing a work uniform and had an honest-looking face, which could easily make people let down their guard. But at this moment, because he was so flustered, his features were somewhat contorted. “I was just here to deliver some water. Don’t go around slandering people.”
After saying that, he tried to get closer to the two of them.
Seeing this, Gu Yu moved a step closer to Song Xinran, preventing the person from doing anything.
The distance that had been deliberately created was now back to how it was. This time, Song Xinran caught a faint, subtle fragrance, like the scent of a flower.
She subconsciously inhaled the scent, and her gland felt a bit warm. Song Xinran suddenly realized that this was the alpha’s pheromone.
Before she could say anything, footsteps could be heard approaching from not far away.
It was Liu Yanxi, who had brought a few people with her. “I saw the message and rushed over with people right away. Are you okay?”
Her eyes were filled with anxiety and concern. Song Xinran emerged from behind Gu Yu and replied, “I’m fine.”
Seeing so many people arrive, the beta was clearly even more flustered and tried to run away. But he heard Liu Yanxi’s cold and serious voice. “Don’t make any unnecessary moves. I’ve already called the police.”
…
The beta was temporarily restrained. Liu Yanxi was waiting for her, and Song Xinran didn’t hesitate, walking toward her. As she passed by Gu Yu, she said with a complex tone, “Next time, don’t release your pheromones in front of an omega.”
She paused, then continued, “That’s harassment.”
Clearly, she thought the other person did it on purpose. After saying that, she walked away without looking back, naturally missing the flash of confusion in Gu Yu’s eyes.
Pheromones? Gu Yu thought of the gland that 087 had mentioned to her and instinctively touched the back of her neck. Because she had just run a short distance, a thin layer of sweat had formed there. Other than that, she felt nothing else.
So, what were her pheromones like?
Liu Yanxi was serious about calling the police. No matter what the reason, this matter had to be investigated thoroughly. While waiting for the police, she finally had time to ask Song Xinran, “What exactly happened?”
In front of a familiar person, Song Xinran finally revealed some of her true emotions. Her fingers holding her bag tightened. She said, “I came here to take a call. Just after I put my phone down, this person came over and offered me a bottle of water.”
“I almost took it without thinking…”
Hearing this, Liu Yanxi also felt a sense of dread. “Ranran, I’m sorry, I…” She wanted to say that she should have been more vigilant about Song Xinran’s safety.
But before she could finish, Song Xinran interrupted her. “Aunt, this isn’t your responsibility.”
No one could have predicted that something like this would happen on a film set, and besides, she had gone there herself.
Liu Yanxi could only swallow the rest of her words. She looked in Gu Yu’s direction. “That alpha…”
The alpha’s timing was too coincidental; it was hard not to be suspicious.
Song Xinran, uncharacteristically, didn’t reply. She also had questions. She had always been biased against alphas, yet she inexplicably felt that the other person wasn’t like that.
It was very strange, considering they had only met a total of two times.
She recalled the way the other person had looked at her, her lips pressed together.
Maybe it was those eyes. Although they were indifferent… they felt so pure.
The police arrived quickly and took the water bottle back to the station for testing. The results came out soon.
It was a new type of drug, N9-201. It was colorless and odorless but could be absorbed through the skin. It only worked on omegas and could make an omega fall into a estrus period, craving an alpha’s mark, just by coming into contact with it.
This type of drug was generally circulated abroad and was a banned substance in the country. Because of strict control, ordinary people couldn’t get it.
It was clear that this beta was just an ordinary person and didn’t have the means to get it. He must have been a pawn.
Omegas were already a protected class under the law due to their physical vulnerability. Given Song Xinran’s special status, the police took the matter very seriously. After questioning and investigation, the beta quickly caved under the pressure and revealed the mastermind.
Upon hearing the mastermind’s name, Liu Yanxi had a look of sudden realization. “It was him.”
The mastermind turned out to be the male fifth lead of the Path of Immortals film, an alpha.
As a director, Liu Yanxi had one foot in the entertainment industry. She knew a little about this person. He had been popular for a while, but the entertainment industry’s rate of change was too fast, and he was quickly replaced by others. His current position in the industry was awkward, neither high nor low. She heard that he had also had a contract dispute with his company recently, which didn’t end well for him.
After finishing this project, he might have to retire from the industry.
Such a person could easily become desperate and resort to extreme measures. Thus, upon seeing Song Xinran, he developed malicious intentions, hoping to change his fate by forcibly marking her.
Song Xinran listened to these words from the side, a hint of sarcasm in her smile.
The matter was clear, and the police worked quickly, immediately sending people to make an arrest.
The beta who had handed her the water was filled with regret. He wasn’t well-educated and didn’t know who Song Xinran was. He had been blinded by greed and bought off, and who knew it would lead to a situation like this?
Dr. Shen must have also heard some rumors, as she called shortly after. “Miss Song, I heard about the N9 drug. Are you okay?”
Song Xinran got up and walked to the door. “I’m fine. Someone stopped it in time, so I didn’t touch the drug.”
On the other end of the phone, Dr. Shen was audibly relieved. “Thank goodness you didn’t touch it. From what I know, N9 can be absorbed through the skin. Your gland already has issues. If it were stimulated again, even if the drug’s effect was reversed in time, it could cause irreversible damage to your gland. That would be a problem.”
Hearing this, Song Xinran’s heart also tightened. At the same time, she inexplicably thought of the alpha who had protected her. She had already left after the police confirmed the mastermind.
The detailed police investigation was enough to prove that she had nothing to do with the incident. Although she didn’t know why that person had appeared so coincidentally, it was undeniable that she had helped her in time.
The conversation with Dr. Shen didn’t last long, but she specifically told her to come in for a detailed check-up tomorrow.
After hanging up the phone, she returned to the room. The police had already taken the person away. Only Liu Yanxi was still sitting there waiting for her. Because of the incident, Liu Yanxi had temporarily handed over today’s filming to the assistant director.
Song Xinran hesitated for a moment and then stood in front of Liu Yanxi without speaking.
After about three seconds, she asked, “Aunt, what’s the name of the alpha who saved me today?”
Meanwhile, Gu Yu was completely unaware of all this. She had already changed back into her own clothes. She hadn’t had time to remove her makeup, but since it wasn’t heavy, she didn’t pay it much mind. She could remove it when she got back.
She had just gotten out of a taxi and was walking to her residence. The events of the day had been too much, and even she felt a bit tired.
It was close to dusk, and the sky was darkening. Only the last sliver of the setting sun remained on the horizon. The streetlights hadn’t turned on yet. Since it was an old residential area, some of the facilities were not well-maintained, and the alleys were a maze. It was likely dinner time, as the air was filled with the smell of food, and there weren’t many people outside.
Gu Yu kept her eyes forward, focusing on recalling the way home. But as she passed a certain alleyway, she heard a faint noise.
It sounded like the rustling of plastic, followed by a soft, weak cry: “Meow…”
Gu Yu’s steps stopped. She couldn’t help but turn toward the source of the sound.
A cat?
