The Anti-Alpha Protagonist is Exceptionally Biased Towards Me (GL) - Chapter 5
“Meow~” The cat’s cry came again, a weak sound that seemed to be coming from the direction of the garbage can.
Gu Yu stared in that direction for two seconds before walking toward it. It was summer, and the garbage area gave off a pungent, acrid smell.
And sure enough, there was a small cat next to the garbage can. Its fur was a mix of yellow and white and was messy. It was a very skinny little thing, its eyes half-closed, trembling under a plastic bag.
By the looks of it, it was a stray. There was a heavy rain last night, and the kitten had probably been soaked. Its condition was not good.
Perhaps sensing someone approaching, the kitten tried to move its ears, letting out a weak “meow.”
It was as if it was saying, “Human, see, I’m still alive. Can you help me?”
With a slight click, as if knowing night was about to fall, the streetlights came on. Gu Yu stood with her back to the light, a long shadow stretching out beneath her. She looked at the kitten not far away that was still meowing weakly. After a moment, she gently turned her gaze away.
She thought, this cat was unlucky. The person it met was her, of all people.
Given her current circumstances, she clearly didn’t have the extra money or ability to rescue this weak creature.
Thinking this, she withdrew her gaze, turned, and walked forward. Her back seemed to convey a sense of heartlessness and indifference.
Behind her, the kitten seemed to sense the human’s departure and let out a small “meow” again.
The air was silent. A few seconds later, footsteps approached once more. This time, it was lifted and placed into a warm embrace.
“I didn’t want to get involved, but you’re too noisy.”
It was late at night when she left the pet hospital.
The kitten had caught a cold from the rain and needed to be dewormed because it was a stray. It was being temporarily kept at the pet hospital, and Gu Yu would need to come back again the next day.
The mere one thousand yuan left in her phone’s balance was spent in a flash, leaving only a pitiful single-digit number. The payment from the film crew would take another day to arrive. Gu Yu lightly tapped on her phone, searched for the route back, and decided to just take the bus.
As for the unread notifications, a bright red 99+, she intentionally ignored them. The original character had added many people, and the messages kept coming in one batch after another.
But she had been busy all day and had no extra mental energy to deal with the original character’s hookups. The original character had used the scammed money to buy many brand-name items. She was thinking of selling them second-hand and then returning the money she had scammed.
It was already past rush hour, so the roads weren’t congested. The bus arrived on time.
She casually found a window seat in the back. Just as she sat down, the phone rang abruptly. The caller ID showed “Sister Li.”
Gu Yu’s memory was good, and she immediately remembered that this was the agent who had called her this morning. She thought for a moment, then swiped to answer.
Before she could speak, the person on the other end started talking like a machine gun. “Why didn’t you reply to my messages?”
“Never mind the messages for now.”
“Gu Yu, do you know that this afternoon, directors from several productions contacted me? Also, a variety show, specifically asking for you.”
When Sister Li said this, her tone was a bit dazed. She asked, “Tell me the truth, did you meet some benefactor? Or did someone finally have the discerning eye to discover your potential? Even as your cousin, I don’t even know what potential you have…”
“What are you going to do? I feel like I’m dreaming. Are you really going to turn your luck around?”
After she finished, she belatedly realized, “Why aren’t you talking?”
Gu Yu: “…”
She finally had a chance to speak. “What’s there to say?” The other person hadn’t given her a chance to open her mouth.
The voice from the phone was cool. It should have been a familiar voice, but Sister Li somehow found it calming, like a stream flowing through her heart, even easing some of the frustration from the summer night.
She mumbled to herself, “I never realized you had such a good voice. Maybe you could even try a singing career.”
Gu Yu chose to ignore that comment. The bus drove smoothly down the road, and the light in the car flickered between bright and dark. She was still in the same outfit she had worn when she left home during the day. As she quietly sat and listened to the phone, she gave off a sense of tranquility that made time seem to slow down.
With a soft “click,” on the other side of the bus, an omega in a school uniform took a picture of the scene and sent it to her friend group chat.
[So captivating alpha!]
The commotion didn’t get Gu Yu’s attention, only because Sister Li asked again, “You didn’t go down a wrong path, did you?”
Gu Yu: “…No. My phone’s about to die. I’m hanging up now.”
After hanging up, she thought about what Sister Li had said, feeling a bit helpless. The “wrong paths” in the entertainment industry were only a few, one of which was being a kept person in exchange for resources.
Thinking this, Song Xinran’s striking face couldn’t help but flash in her mind. She thought, putting aside the fact that Song Xinran might just be simply repaying a favor, with Miss Song’s looks, even without giving resources, countless people would probably still be willing to be with her.
On the other side, Sister Li looked at her black phone screen and almost laughed from anger.
The next day, with no work scheduled, Gu Yu simply cleaned out her closet and took photos of the original owner’s branded items to put up on a second-hand platform.
After doing this, the payment from the film crew was also deposited into her account. She quickly got ready and then headed to the pet hospital.
Meanwhile, at a high-end private hospital, surrounded by precise instruments, several computer screens displayed a series of rolling data. Song Xinran lay on the slightly cold examination table, allowing the instruments to scan her body.
Next to her stood a female beta wearing a white coat and a mask. She was observing the data while writing something down with a pen. Her name tag read: Shen Xinyi.
Song Xinran was bored and used her fingers to fiddle with the hem of her dress, staring at the soft white light from the instruments above her. After a while, she asked, “Dr. Shen, how much longer?”
Dr. Shen, or Shen Xinyi, sighed helplessly. “Miss Song, please don’t be impatient. You are undergoing a comprehensive examination, so it will take a little longer.”
In response, Song Xinran glanced at her out of the corner of her eye. “But I don’t think it’s just ‘a little’ longer.”
The subtext was that she felt she had been lying there for too long.
Shen Xinyi was clearly used to this and pretended not to hear.
Song Xinran finally had the patience to finish the examination. The data showed that there were no major issues with her body, including her gland, which made Shen Xinyi breathe a sigh of relief.
As a doctor, she did not want to see her patient have problems again.
She stood up and said, “There’s nothing seriously wrong. It’s just that your pheromone concentration is low, likely due to the excessive amount of inhibitors you injected during this estrus period. Miss Song, but I must seriously remind you again, you really can’t over-inject inhibitors.”
Her voice was stern and serious. As Song Xinran’s attending physician, she had reminded her of this many times, but Song Xinran always refused to listen. Shen Xinyi had a headache over it countless times.
This time was no different. Song Xinran, instead of taking it to heart, was reminded of the few remaining inhibitors in her bedside cabinet. She said, “Oh, speaking of that, I’ve run out of my inhibitors. Please have someone send more to the Song residence later.”
Shen Xinyi: “…”
Seeing the silent expression on the other’s face, Song Xinran chuckled. She hooked her little finger around the sunglasses on the table, raised her hand, and the ends of her hair lifted slightly, giving her a carefree air. “Well, I’m leaving now.”
“I’ll walk you out,” Shen Xinyi could only say.
One of the benefits of a high-end private hospital was that not many people came in on a regular basis. The vast majority were wealthy families like the Songs, so it was generally a peaceful place. Now, with it being close to noon, Shen Xinyi planned to grab lunch outside.
Song Xinran didn’t refuse. The two walked out of the hospital side by side. It was summer, and the sunlight outside was dazzling. Song Xinran put on her sunglasses and immediately felt much better.
Her driver was already on the way and should be arriving soon. She was too lazy to move around later, so she just waited under the shade of a tree. The shaded area here was small, only barely enough to cover her body.
The ground was baking in the sun, and the surrounding air felt as if it had been put in an oven. Under these conditions, Song Xinran didn’t expect to see Gu Yu, the alpha who had helped her.
The other person was wearing a pale blue dress that cinched at the waist, giving her a clean and elegant look. She was holding a sun umbrella and walking toward her.
Gu Yu also froze for a second when she saw the striking omega standing in the shade of the tree. She was on her way to the pet hospital. The pet hospital was in a good location, and she really didn’t expect to run into Song Xinran here.
The other person clearly saw her. Whether it was out of politeness or for some other reason, Gu Yu should have gone up and greeted her. She lowered her eyelids slightly and said, “Miss Song.”
She wondered if the other person even remembered her.
The three simple words, with the last one barely a whisper, were a common enough form of address, just like what Dr. Shen used. But somehow, coming from Gu Yu’s mouth, it had a different quality. Song Xinran’s heart couldn’t help but stir, and she found herself looking into Gu Yu’s eyes.
Perhaps because of the dark color of her pupils, when she stared at someone, it gave them a sense of exclusive focus, as if her eyes could pull a person in.
Song Xinran only looked for a second before she awkwardly looked away. Thankfully, her sunglasses hid her expression so the alpha in front of her couldn’t notice her unusual reaction.
She nodded and started making small talk. “I remember you. What a coincidence. Where are you heading?”
Gu Yu answered concisely: “The pet hospital.”
“I see…”
The atmosphere fell into an awkward and strange silence again.
Her driver hadn’t arrived yet. Because of the hot weather, a light sweat had formed on Song Xinran’s neck and the tip of her nose, making her feel uncomfortable.
Seeing this, Gu Yu said nothing. She simply took a small step forward and put her umbrella over the other’s head. She was a head taller than Song Xinran, so the action was effortless.
The alpha was very mindful of boundaries. This time, she didn’t stand too close, maintaining a comfortable social distance. But her hand, holding the umbrella, crossed that appropriate social line, raising it in front of Song Xinran’s eyes, fair and well-proportioned.
“Miss Song, would you like to share the umbrella?”
