Summary
Synopsis:
He Xiu was unlucky enough to transmigrate into the body of a hostage prince being sent to an enemy kingdom. Exposed to wind and sun, starving and suffering, she was already on the verge of death when she met the living bodhisattva Zhuo Mingke.
And so, He Xiu was able to stay in Zhuo Mingke’s residence, where she studied literature and etiquette. She respected Zhuo Mingke as both teacher and elder sister, as family and friend, and was endlessly grateful to her.
Even though, in the eyes of outsiders, the beautiful, captivating, and fabulously wealthy Zhuo Mingke was actually obsessive by nature and had many strange little quirks, He Xiu still obeyed her in everything.
Later on, even though Zhuo Mingke clearly knew He Xiu was a woman, she still insisted that He Xiu marry her. He Xiu did exactly as she was told and helped her block all those rotten romantic prospects.
However, by accident, He Xiu learned that she was nothing more than a bargaining chip in Zhuo Mingke’s high-stakes gamble—a rare commodity worth investing in. If Zhuo Mingke won, He Xiu lived. If she lost, He Xiu died.
It turned out that Zhuo Mingke only wanted to become an empress with supreme power in her hands. That was why she needed to support a hostage prince stranded in an enemy kingdom, so she could seize the opportunity to enter and take control of the dynasty.
He Xiu wanted to run, but she did not even make it out of the gates of the Zhuo residence before she was immediately rewarded with a little black room.
Only then did He Xiu remember that Zhuo Mingke’s contrast between beautiful saint and lunatic felt very much like the unhinged, ambitious villain Empress Zhuo from a terrible unfinished novel she had once read.
That unhinged villain Empress Zhuo loved using all kinds of brutal punishments. In particular, the scene where she personally turned her hostage emperor into a “human swine” had left a deep impression on He Xiu.
But no matter how hard He Xiu thought about it, she never could have imagined that the living bodhisattva Zhuo Mingke and that lunatic Empress Zhuo were actually the same person!
Help! Must she really become emperor? He Xiu only wants to have a sweet, sugary romance. She does not want to become a human swine!
A sweet wives’ romance between a devastatingly beautiful, ambitious, obsessive maniac and a silly, pure-hearted little white rabbit.
