The Live-in Alpha Only Wants to Be a Quiet Salted Fish - Chapter 11
Less than a day after the board meeting, news of Su Mo’s secret marriage to a live-in Alpha spread like wildfire.
Lin Mu found out from a news pop-up on a messaging app. Not only did the entertainment section explode, but even the economics section dedicated significant space to it.
What good deeds had she done to deserve this!
Fortunately, her identity hadn’t been fully exposed. She had only been photographed a few times while escorting Su Mo into the company. The pictures were taken from a distance and weren’t very clear, but acquaintances might recognize her.
Despite their “sisterly bond” and the current buzz, Su Mo, who had initially wanted to kick Lin Mu out, held back. She let her continue staying at home to avoid being caught by entertainment reporters and inadvertently revealing something she shouldn’t.
Every day, people sent inquiries through messaging apps and even phone calls. Lin Mu could only respond with a bewildered expression, sifting through most of her memories to unearth a few faint impressions.
Social death? What’s that? It’s Lin Mu who’s socially dead, what does that have to do with me, Lin Erha (husky)?
Annoyed by the constant intrusion from strangers, Lin Mu simply changed all her contact information and peacefully focused on writing, living the life of a homebody. Every day was spent with everything handed to her, not even needing to clean herself. It was truly a comfortable life.
In contrast, Su Mo was much worse off. To consolidate power and deal with the mess left by the He family father and son, she was incredibly busy every day. She wouldn’t even touch her bed until after midnight. For a full week, Lin Mu and the early-to-rise, late-to-bed Su Mo didn’t even see each other once.
Time passed like this, haltingly. One day, Lin Mu uncharacteristically pulled an all-nighter. Her new novel had reached a crucial point, and she was tearing her hair out due to writer’s block.
Ever since her suspicious demise in her previous life, she had started focusing on health, developing good habits of early nights and late mornings. This was her first all-nighter since transmigrating.
Amidst her struggle, the plastic bottle by her hand emptied. The entire bottle of sparkling water was now in her stomach.
For health, sugary drinks are out, so sparkling water is the only substitute. And it’s peach-flavored! Aunt Liang thought I liked peaches and specially prepared it for me. It’s quite expensive. How thoughtful.
Just as she went to the kitchen to grab another bottle of water, she heard a muffled thud from the front door, followed by the clattering of various objects hitting the floor, a messy sound.
“Ms. Su, are you alright, Ms. Su…?”
“Ugh, no, can you help me call…”
Lin Mu quietly put down the broom she had picked up for self-defense. After a moment’s thought, she still turned towards the living room.
Sugar Daddy is back, and it sounds like things aren’t too good. As an employee, I should at least go and check in, to show how thoughtful I am.
“What’s going on here…?”
As she turned into the living room, she immediately saw the disheveled shoe cabinet, shoes scattered everywhere. The culprit lay on the sofa, her face flushed, propped up on the armrest, her head drooping. Beside her was a woman dressed in formal attire, standing quite close, seemingly listening intently to her instructions.
“How much did you drink? Do you even recognize anyone…?” Lin Mu frowned, unable to resist complaining.
The sudden voice made the secretary beside Su Mo jump. She turned around to see an Alpha emerging from the shadows, her face half-dark, half-light, terrifyingly grim. It made the secretary’s little heart skip a beat.
Remembering the news of the live-in Alpha, and then mulling over Lin Mu’s words, the secretary immediately understood.
“I’m so sorry, please don’t misunderstand. I’m just Ms. Su’s secretary. Since you’re here, I’ll take my leave now. I won’t disturb you.” The secretary bowed repeatedly, then ran out without looking back.
Lin Mu stretched out her hand like Er-Kang, bewildered, but all that was left was the “bang” of the closing door.
What’s going on? Am I that scary? I was just passing by to get some sparkling water!
The surroundings quieted down, leaving only Su Mo’s distressed groans. Lin Mu glanced at the empty living room, pouted, and resigned herself.
Fine, we’re sisters after all. I can’t just leave her to die, can I?
“Are you alright?” poke.
Though drunk, Su Mo still had some wits about her. Woken by the commotion, she scrutinized Lin Mu, then couldn’t resist rolling her eyes.
Are you blind?
Receiving the message in that glance, Lin Mu twitched her lips. She could only say, as expected of the female lead. She can even make an eye-roll look alluring. What a temptress.
“Call Aunt Liang for me.” Su Mo waved her hand weakly.
Lin Mu rolled her eyes back. “Do you know what time it is? How can you still trouble an elderly person? And you, too, can’t you find someone to drink for you in such a big company? Do you have to push yourself this hard? You need to know, your body is…”
“Annoying!” The incessant nagging in her ear irritated Su Mo. She impatiently raised a hand and instinctively slapped it over Lin Mu’s mouth.
A tender palm pressed against her lips. If she focused, she could even feel the faint lines of the palm print. Lin Mu…
…was almost out of breath!
This woman was really covering her mouth! Her fingers dug into Lin Mu’s cheek, refusing to let go, almost suffocating her.
Lin Mu struggled for a long time, using great effort to pull off that wicked hand.
“Are you trying to murder me!”
“Stop arguing, my head hurts!” Su Mo rubbed her temples, her brows tightly furrowed, her voice unusually weak.
Lin Mu was affected by her tone. She looked down and saw Su Mo’s dark circles, and the exhaustion that even makeup couldn’t fully hide. Inexplicably… she felt a little heartache.
“You deserve it, you…”
She paused for a moment, then angrily pressed the sparkling water in her hand against Su Mo’s forehead.
The coolness stimulated her hazy consciousness and eased the burning sensation. Su Mo instinctively looked up at her.
?
“Cool your head for a bit. Don’t drink this. I’ll go make you some hangover tea.” Shoving the sparkling water into Su Mo’s hand, Lin Mu grumbled a command, then shuffled towards the kitchen in her slippers.
Drinking ice water when drunk isn’t good; it can irritate the stomach. An ice pack, however, can alleviate a headache. Useless knowledge collected while writing, I never thought I’d actually use it someday.
Su Mo looked at Lin Mu’s somewhat angry back, bewildered. She turned to look at the sparkling water in her hand. Her vision was blurry, so she couldn’t make out the words, but she saw the large image of a peach. Her face couldn’t help but feel a little warmer.
This silly Alpha!
The kitchen was busy for a while. Before long, Lin Mu brought out a steaming bowl of hangover soup, quickly concocted after a hurried search online. She wondered if it would even work.
Su Mo was already sprawled on the sofa, a bottle of soda water awkwardly balanced on her head.
“Get up. Drink the hangover soup while it’s hot.”
Placing the bowl on the coffee table, Lin Mu patted Su Mo’s arm.
Su Mo groaned, opened her eyes, and seeing it was Lin Mu, she propped herself up to sit, but then her weak arms gave out, and she fell back, repeating the cycle like a turtle unable to right itself.
“I swear, you’re truly a high-maintenance elder.” Lin Mu wailed, resigned to serving her.
Her arm wrapped around Su Mo’s nape, her palm resting on her shoulder. Their proximity was very close; Lin Mu’s chin rested on the crown of Su Mo’s head, and Su Mo’s head was almost buried in Lin Mu’s embrace.
In summer, clothing was thin. Her nose brushed against a rather elastic soft spot, catching a faint, subtle scent—slightly cool, almost imperceptible, and upon closer inspection, seeming to vanish altogether.
A faint throbbing pain spread through her nape. Su Mo’s eyes suddenly cleared.
Is this… pheromones?
She tried hard to lift her hand to create distance, but…
A finger first pushed against her shoulder, pushing her away.
“Ew, get away from me, why do you smell so strong!”
A certain Alpha pinched her nose, her face full of disdain.
Su Mo: You##!
