The Live-in Alpha Only Wants to Be a Quiet Salted Fish - Chapter 13
At the banquet, lights blurred, and glasses clinked.
Today was the 60th birthday of Shen Bai, a renowned director in the industry. The attendees were all celebrities and executives from the entertainment world, dressed impeccably.
Su Mo entered with Lin Mu. After only a few steps, a crowd gathered to greet them. Lin Mu could only stand by like a wooden figure, her face stiff from smiling at all the ambiguous glances.
After finally dealing with another wave of people and getting a moment to themselves, Lin Mu leaned towards Su Mo’s ear and quietly muttered:
“I feel like I’m quite redundant at these banquets. How about you overcome the difficulty and come alone next time?”
Logically, what business did she, an outsider, have at a director’s birthday banquet? She scanned the room and saw several married celebrities that matched her original body’s memories, and none of them had brought their families along.
“Shut up. Do you think I want to bring you? Just don’t talk too much later, and quietly accompany me for a round.”
What do you mean “overcome the difficulty”? I think you are the difficulty!
Su Mo glared at her fiercely, pulling her towards the center of the hall.
Old Master Shen was her mentor. Her current achievements were almost entirely due to his direct guidance. So, for this birthday banquet, both emotionally and rationally, she had to come. As for why she brought Lin Mu…
“Director Shen, long time no see…” Su Mo greeted him with a beaming smile, a string of felicitations flowing smoothly from her lips.
During the well-wishes, she didn’t miss the intense gaze on her. She could only suppress the disgust in her heart and held Lin Mu’s arm tighter.
There are always some flies that can’t read the room and are simply annoying.
Although the old man was past fifty, he was in good spirits. It was just that he had developed leg problems from constantly traveling and filming in his youth, so he was currently in a wheelchair, being pushed by a young female Alpha.
“You little girl, you finally came. If it weren’t my birthday, it would be truly hard to see you, oh…”
Seeing her approach, the old man’s eyes crinkled in a smile. He playfully chided her, but it was clearly teasing, showing their genuinely good relationship.
“Please don’t scold me. I’ve been quite busy lately. When I have free time, I’ll definitely come to have tea and a meal with you.” Su Mo quickly pleaded, showing a rare glimpse of girlish charm.
That gaze intensified, even Lin Mu sensed something. She subtly shifted her body to block it, facing the female Alpha behind the wheelchair.
The female Alpha wasn’t very old, perhaps in her twenties. She had a stern, unsmiling face. Her features were seventy percent similar to the old man’s, clearly his biological daughter. But her gaze towards Lin Mu wasn’t very friendly…
Lin Mu vaguely understood Su Mo’s purpose in bringing her to the banquet.
Apparently, she’s just a human shield, needed wherever there’s trouble.
“Momo, long time no see.” The female Alpha couldn’t sit still. She came around, completely ignoring Lin Mu, and extended her hand.
The smile on Su Mo’s face faded slightly. She didn’t want to embarrass her host in public, so she placed her jade-like hand on the outstretched one.
“Long time no see, Shen Mo.”
Shen Mo chuckled softly, provocatively glancing at the stunned Lin Mu, and slowly bent down.
Just as her hand was about to touch Su Mo’s…
“Bang!”
A hand forcefully intervened, slapping hard onto Su Mo’s hand, leaving her no time to dodge. It landed squarely.
Both the one reaching and the one being reached for felt a chill run through them. Lin Mu got goosebumps. She barely resisted the urge to smack the female Alpha away.
“You… bleh…” Shen Mo suddenly straightened up, covering her mouth, uncontrollably gagging.
Clearly trying to take advantage. How could I let you succeed?
Lin Mu twitched her lips. Although it hurt both parties, it was satisfying. She retracted her hand and vigorously wiped it on her pant leg.
“Apologies, but that’s not quite appropriate. We don’t do that in our country.”
After speaking, her gaze bypassed the discomfited female Alpha and met Su Mo, who was watching with a sly smile. Lin Mu blinked, seeking praise, pathetically raising her reddened, rubbed hand.
Look at how much I sacrificed for you. I’m soiled, soiled!
As she raised her hand, a faint scent drifted over, reaching Lin Mu’s nose. It made her frown, and she couldn’t resist the urge to grumble quietly.
“What’s that smell? Does this person have bad breath or something?!”
“Pfft…” This comment naturally reached Su Mo’s ears, making her burst out laughing.
“Sorry, my Alpha is a bit old-fashioned and prone to jealousy. But, since I’m already married, it’s probably best to avoid such gestures in the future.”
She said, pulling out a wet wipe from her bag, an alcohol wipe at that, and leisurely cleaned Lin Mu’s hand.
Hmm, she had prepared this for herself. Never thought Lin Mu would use it.
Events unfolded so quickly that people didn’t immediately react. With Su Mo’s explanation, the awkward situation finally eased.
“My fault, my fault. This girl, after returning from abroad, didn’t learn much in terms of ability, but she did pick up a lot of messy bad habits.”
The old man glared at his daughter, disappointed. He gave a hearty laugh. This matter was clearly something he had tacitly approved of. He had been trying to set the two up for a while, but unfortunately, some unknown wild Alpha had stolen the show. He still hadn’t gotten over his frustration, which was why he hadn’t even given Lin Mu a proper look when Su Mo arrived with her, treating her as if she were air.
“In the blink of an eye, you’re actually married. It’s just my lousy daughter’s bad luck. Come, introduce her to me, old man. I promised your mother I’d look after you. You can’t just be snatched away by any wild Alpha.”
Director Shen and Su Mo’s mother were old acquaintances, or rather, Su Yue was the unattainable “white moonlight” in Director Shen’s heart. That’s why he cared so much for Su Mo. And with the white moonlight gone, his youthful regrets, he could only hope to fulfill in the next generation. Unfortunately, it still came to nothing.
“Director Shen, please don’t tease me. This is my Alpha, Lin Mu. She’s not just some wild Alpha. If you keep saying that, I’ll get angry.”
Su Mo knew the old man’s intentions and felt tired. She pulled Lin Mu, feigning anger, and changed the subject.
“Hello, Director Shen. Happy Birthday.” Lin Mu greeted him obediently.
The old man nodded, his expression unreadable. The female Alpha beside him, however, had recovered. She adjusted her clothes, suppressing the hatred in her eyes.
“Miss Lin, I presume. May I ask where you are employed?”
News of Su Mo having a live-in Alpha had long spread far and wide. Anyone with any sense wouldn’t ask such a question. This question was clearly meant to humiliate Lin Mu.
Su Mo frowned slightly. Just as she was about to speak to mediate, she heard Lin Mu’s reply.
“Oh, I work at the Su family mansion.” Lin Mu replied casually, very earnestly.
“The Su family mansion?” Her words were light and earnest, leaving Shen Mo a bit unsure.
Lin Mu pointed confidently. “Well, my wife’s home!”
