The Live-in Alpha Only Wants to Be a Quiet Salted Fish - Chapter 21
As night fell, Lin Mu finally emerged from the study. The TV outside was off; it was quiet. Su Mo was nowhere to be seen, likely having returned to the bedroom.
The apartment had a layout of three rooms and two living areas. Of the two extra rooms, one had been converted into a study and the other into a media room. So, currently, the only available living space was the master bedroom.
Lin Mu stood at the doorway, caught between going in and staying out. The thought of sharing a room with Su Mo for three days made her skin crawl.
Luckily, her susceptible period had passed. Su Mo wouldn’t really go wild and attack her at night, would she?
Feeling uneasy, Lin Mu pushed open the bedroom door.
As the door opened, the sounds from within became clear. Warm, soft light bathed the room, making it feel somewhat cozy. In the bathroom, the hairdryer buzzed loudly, creating a bit of noise, but more significantly, a subtle intimacy crept into the air.
This was the ambiance of another person’s life.
Unlike the collective atmosphere of a dorm, where various noisy sounds were commonplace, being just the two of them gave Lin Mu a more distinct feeling. Her space had been invaded, and half of it had been forcefully taken over.
This feeling was subtle, causing her an instinctive discomfort, even a vague sense of panic.
In her daze, the bathroom door opened, and Lin Mu bumped squarely into Su Mo.
The air suddenly became quiet, both speechless.
Su Mo had just showered. Her long hair cascaded softly over her shoulders, her cheeks flushed from the heat, and her skin still had a dewy luster, like a peach plump with dew.
Thinking this, Lin Mu indeed seemed to catch a whiff of peach, her nostrils unconsciously flaring.
Her action was obvious, and Su Mo’s face immediately fell. She stepped forward and stomped hard on Lin Mu’s foot.
“Pervert!”
Lin Mu: ???
No, wait a minute, something seems off about this script.
Lin Mu was stunned, pondering deeply, unable to figure out why she deserved that stomp.
“Why did you stomp on me?!”
“Hmph, you know perfectly well yourself!” Su Mo snorted coldly, turning away haughtily, using the motion to hide the flush on her face.
What do I know?!
Her protests died on her lips because Su Mo started shuffling her slippers loudly again. Lin Mu wisely chose to shut up, lest she get inexplicably beaten again.
“Um… I’m going to shower now, okay?” She tentatively asked, not entirely sure why she felt the need to ask.
As soon as the words left her mouth, Su Mo paused her lotion application, her face flushing again.
“Go shower. Why are you asking me?!”
She just felt that the word “shower” was like some kind of hint, subtly evoking something indescribable.
“Oh.” Lin Mu rubbed her nose, obediently clutching her clothes and scurrying into the bathroom.
••••
Inside the bathroom, the steam hadn’t completely dissipated, and a faint peach scent lingered.
Lin Mu squeezed out some body wash and sniffed it. How strange, it clearly smelled of milk.
When Lin Mu emerged, smelling of milk, Su Mo had already climbed into bed, leaning against the headboard, playing on her phone, her fingertips unconsciously swiping. Lin Mu couldn’t tell what she was looking at.
Lin Mu gazed longingly at the large bed. It was clearly big enough for three people, yet there was only one blanket. Evidently, she was destined not to sleep on the bed.
“Where do I sleep?”
Su Mo didn’t even raise her eyes. She simply pointed towards the bay window.
A blanket was spread on it, and several pillows were arranged, clearly a spot for a nap or enjoying the view. Using it for sleeping naturally wasn’t a problem.
“Oh.”
Lin Mu obediently climbed onto the bay window, pulled up the blanket, and was unusually compliant, making Su Mo unable to resist glancing at her.
Their eyes met, and the air was silent for a moment. Both quickly looked away, each more awkward than the other.
Lin Mu lifted the blanket and fanned herself; it was a little warm.
Late at night, when everything was quiet, a desire to talk to someone emerged. She spoke thoughtfully.
“Hey, Su Mo, don’t you feel tired pretending like this?”
Lin Mu rarely called her by her full name, and her tone even carried a hint of seriousness.
Su Mo’s fingertips paused, curling slightly, her heart a little flustered.
“What do you mean? Pretending what?”
Lin Mu looked at the ceiling, cradling her head. “I’m talking about this fake marriage thing. Haven’t you ever thought about finding someone you actually like to accompany you on a show like this, instead of me and you putting on this fake act?”
To be honest, in the original book, around this time, the live-in Alpha had already colluded with the company elders and was preparing to forcibly mark Su Mo to seize power. There was no variety show subplot at all. Perhaps her “butterfly effect” had caused this change. She was genuinely worried that by continuing to act with Su Mo like this, she would scare away her future “puppy Alpha.”
She worried too much for this friend!
“Someone I like, huh…” Su Mo turned off her phone and placed it over her heart. “If I really had someone, would I need you? Besides, it’s not that simple.”
“By the way, what kind of person do you like? Maybe I could even introduce someone to you!” Lin Mu turned sideways, looking at her brightly, her eyes sparkling with gossip.
At that moment, the awkwardness faded, vaguely recalling the atmosphere of late-night gossip sessions in the dorm.
Su Mo tilted her head, glancing at her disdainfully. “You? You stay cooped up at home all day; what kind of people would you even know?”
“Oh, just tell me.”
Her voice stretched, sounding quite endearing. Su Mo rubbed away her goosebumps. Fine, she was used to it.
She looked at Lin Mu, pondering slightly. “First, they should preferably be assertive and responsible.”
“Mhm.”
“Second, they need to be a bit smart.”
“Mhm.”
“Finally, definitely not like you.”
“Mhm, huh??” Her tone suddenly shot up several octaves.
“What do you mean ‘definitely not like me’? I suspect you’re subtly implying something about me?”
“What subtle implication? You’re just silly.” Su Mo curled her lips, the corners of her eyes turning up.
“Alright, stop bothering me. I’m going to sleep.”
After taunting her, she immediately feigned sleep before the husky (Lin Mu) could complain, even turning off the bedside lamp, giving her no room to react.
Starlight streamed in from the window. Lin Mu stared at the back of the head that refused to talk, a belly full of anger with nowhere to vent. Finally, she indignantly pulled the blanket over her head.
So, only your little puppy Alpha is smart, huh? Why am I silly? I’m clearly very smart!
••••
The night passed without dreams. The first day of cohabitation slipped away quietly.
As dawn broke, Su Mo was awakened by her biological clock. Her eyes were still a bit blurry before she opened them, but as soon as she did, she was startled awake by the sleeping face directly opposite her.
Lin Mu’s slightly long short hair covered most of her face, obscuring her features. With the faint greenish light filtering in from outside, she wouldn’t even need makeup to play a female ghost; it was quite unsettling.
So ugly.
Su Mo mumbled a complaint in her heart, then observed Lin Mu’s sleeping posture.
She was sprawled out, the blanket kicked onto the floor, and her clothes had ridden up, revealing her toned abdomen.
Looking at it this way, this person’s waist was indeed quite slender, excessively thin.
Perhaps her gaze was too intense, subtly alerting Lin Mu. She scratched her slightly cool abdomen, groggily opened her eyes, and met a pair of burning eyes.
“Ah!! Why are you in my room?!” Lin Mu frantically clutched her chest. Her long-held anxieties had become reality, leaving her filled with grief and indignation.
“Alright, I knew you had ill intentions towards me! Give up! I won’t let you succeed!”
