The Male Lead's Sister Reborn (GL) - Chapter 5
Sitting in her newly-bought Maserati, Shen Xiruo hung up the phone and fell into deep thought, staring at the name “Jiang Qian” displayed on her screen.
The Jiang Qian of her previous life seemed very different from the Jiang Qian of now.
In her previous life, Jiang Qian had treated Shen Xiruo as her only close friend within the Shen family, confiding many of her thoughts to her. This made Shen Xiruo gradually grow to care about Jiang Qian, developing a friendship-like affection for her and constantly trying to arrange a marriage between Jiang Qian and her brother.
But, in the end, Shen Xiruo realized that Jiang Qian would never be happy with her brother.
She had regretted it for a long, long time.
When she found herself reborn on the day she met Jiang Qian at the bar, she, on a whim, sent her brother away, preventing him from meeting Jiang Qian again.
However, what happened afterward was something Shen Xiruo herself had not expected.
Because of the experience in the hotel, the current Shen Xiruo was starting to care more and more about Jiang Qian.
She was also discovering more and more differences between Jiang Qian and the person she was before.
All in all, she felt that the current Jiang Qian was more interesting, lively, and optimistic than the one she had known before her rebirth.
Perhaps she didn’t need to do anything special; just staying by Jiang Qian’s side and helping her when the time was right would be enough to ensure she had a smooth life.
Shen Xiruo slowly let out a breath and looked at the main gate of the film academy through the car window.
Before long, a cute figure appeared at the academy gate.
It was Jiang Qian. The moment she appeared, all the students around her were subtly looking at her. Amidst the crisscrossing gazes, many boys almost ran into pillars, a testament to the campus belle’s charm.
Jiang Qian had a slender yet curvaceous figure, a fair and rosy complexion without any makeup, and a casually tied, very smooth ponytail. Paired with a simple skirt and a canvas bag, her eyes were particularly bright and full of spirit as she looked around for someone.
Shen Xiruo watched that figure, and it was a moment before she realized she was smiling.
It was a very rare feeling—her mood improved just by seeing someone’s silhouette.
She pressed her temples in surprise, then lowered the car window and waved to Jiang Qian from inside.
Jiang Qian looked over and immediately broke into a big, bright smile, as if gathering all the sunlight and morning glow around her into her smile. It was utterly adorable.
Jiang Qian quickened her pace. By the time she arrived, the driver had already opened the back door for her.
Shen Xiruo was sitting on the inner side. Jiang Qian got into the car and sat next to her.
“Hehehe, I didn’t expect you to change cars today. I didn’t even recognize you.”
Jiang Qian said with a laugh.
“You… took a shower?”
Shen Xiruo suddenly asked.
“Uh… yes. Actually, I was just running on the sports field and I was all sweaty, so I went back and took a shower before coming… Um, I really didn’t mean anything else, don’t think too much!”
Jiang Qian gestured as she spoke, becoming more flustered with each word, her face flushing.
“Hmm, I’m not thinking too much.”
Shen Xiruo nodded.
However, from Shen Xiruo’s half-smile, Jiang Qian read five words: “Not thinking too much? Yeah, right!”
The atmosphere instantly became awkward. The driver in the front seat drove silently. The luxury car sped past the long street in front of the school and quickly headed towards the pre-booked dim sum restaurant.
Shen Xiruo didn’t speak, and Jiang Qian didn’t know what to say either. She just let out two dry laughs and opened her phone.
A message from her roommate suddenly popped up on her phone; it was a link.
This was her best roommate and friend, Chi Lulu. She had indignantly sent her a link to a school forum post with the title: “Shocking! The campus belle really has more than one sugar daddy; today she got into a Maserati!”
Jiang Qian was a little surprised, thinking, “Are the netizens on these school forums all disciples of the ‘UC Shocking Title’ style?”
“It would be a shame if they didn’t become self-media creators with such great skill.”
She didn’t even click on the title. Not wanting to appear rude by playing on her phone for too long in front of Shen Xiruo, she turned it off and was about to put it away.
However, Chi Lulu’s messages kept coming, and they were all displayed directly on the lock screen.
“Aren’t they so bored? All they do is get jealous and spread rumors, saying you have several sugar daddies. Have they never seen a Maserati before? Speechless!”
Shen Xiruo just happened to glance over and accidentally caught sight of it.
Jiang Qian frantically picked up her phone, turned away, and messaged Chi Lulu: “Can’t talk right now, I’m busy,” then put her phone back in her bag.
“Got into some trouble?”
Shen Xiruo asked.
“Oh, it’s nothing, just small stuff. It won’t affect me.”
Jiang Qian said politely.
Shen Xiruo gave her a look and said nothing more.
The car arrived at its destination: an extremely magnificent Chinese-style estate building, covering a vast area. Inside were scattered small houses and pavilions, all exquisitely designed.
Jiang Qian was stunned. She had never seen such a beautiful place and couldn’t stop looking at the koi fish in the pond.
“Is this some kind of garden?”
“No, it’s just a restaurant.”
Jiang Qian: “Are rich people eating food? No! They’re eating money!”
“This atmosphere and environment… one meal here probably costs as much as my food expenses for three months. Is this the world of the powerful?”
The two of them entered a small pavilion surrounded by water on three sides. They placed their order, and before long, a waiter in a Chinese qipao served basket after basket of delicate dim sum, followed by tea expertly brewed by a professional.
In front of the garden, there was also a tea ceremony performance, creating an elegant and quiet atmosphere.
The delicate and exquisite shrimp dumplings, with the shrimp meat showing a light pink color through the crystal-clear skin.
The perfectly steamed chicken feet, where the meat would effortlessly fall off the bone with a single touch of the lips, melting smoothly in the mouth.
The fragrant char siu bao, the chubby and cute custard buns, rice rolls with various fillings, and the rich and flavorful siu mai…
Jiang Qian was filled with regret. She regretted that she couldn’t turn into a bottomless pit at that moment to devour all this delicious food and even order more!
In the end, she couldn’t eat anymore. She slumped back in her chair and, without a care for her image, patted her belly with a look of contentment.
Shen Xiruo had been slowly sipping her tea. Seeing her like this, she let out a light laugh and said, “Full?”
Jiang Qian looked at the delicacies on the table with reluctance and nodded.
Shen Xiruo waited for her to rest for a while longer before saying, “Let’s go. You probably have a class. I’ll take you back.”
Jiang Qian stood up. Because she had eaten so much, her waist felt a little heavy, so she put her hands on her hips, her posture looking very arrogant.
Shen Xiruo looked at her and let out another giggle.
Jiang Qian looked over and saw Shen Xiruo’s slender and beautiful hand, half-clenched into a fist, pressed to her lips. In her eyes was a radiant, uncontrollable smile. Her whole person was like a palace lantern lit up by laughter, beautiful enough to be dazzling.
She was completely mesmerized, and her steps became unsteady. She accidentally stepped on an uneven stone, suddenly stumbled, and fell sideways.
“Oh!”
Jiang Qian flailed her arms, with nothing to grab onto. With the world spinning around her, she braced herself for the fall, closing her eyes and protecting the back of her head.
Then, she fell into a warm and soft embrace.
Opening her eyes, she saw Shen Xiruo’s face, filled with concern.
Jiang Qian’s mind went blank. Ambushed head-on by such beauty, and with her still in the beauty’s arms, she instantly lost her ability to think.
Shen Xiruo said gently, “Are you alright?”
Jiang Qian’s inner voice: “I was fine, but your arms are so comfortable, I kind of don’t want to get up.”
“Um… I’m fine.”
She shook off her sudden strange thought, grabbed Shen Xiruo’s arm, and used the leverage to stand up, very seriously saying that she was fine.
Shen Xiruo looked her up and down, then turned her head and reached out to hold Jiang Qian’s hand.
Jiang Qian immediately tensed up. She didn’t know why, but even though Shen Xiruo had already “done this and that” to her, she would get… very nervous as soon as they made contact.
Shen Xiruo said, “The path here is a bit tricky. Be careful, follow me.”
She held Jiang Qian’s hand and led her across the long floating bridge and onto the paved stone path.
Jiang Qian looked at the back of the person in front of her and suddenly felt quite touched.
Since coming to this world, she had actually been very uneasy, scared, and confused. She always felt that this was just a cliche novel world, everyone was a cardboard cutout, and only she was a real person.
But now, being led by Shen Xiruo and walking behind her, at this moment, Jiang Qian truly felt that these people were all real. They weren’t just cardboard cutouts from some cliche novel.
The world she was in was real, and the things she wanted to pursue, as well as the people she had connected with, were all very real and tangible.
Jiang Qian felt as if she had always been floating. Now, she was suddenly held by Shen Xiruo, her feet were on solid ground, and she felt an indescribable sense of security.
Until Shen Xiruo drove her back to school, she spent the whole way experiencing this wonderful feeling, barely speaking a few words to Shen Xiruo.
After a few classes in the morning, she had no classes in the afternoon and had to attend a script meeting for the drama.
When Jiang Qian went out to hail a taxi, she ran into Li Zheng at the school gate.
Li Zheng saw her too and let out a cold scoff. She deliberately shouted loudly in the crowded street, “Big Sister Jiang Qian! Whose Maserati did you ride in this morning?”
Gazes from all directions immediately converged on Jiang Qian, and various murmurs started.
Many people at the school weren’t on the forums every day and didn’t know about Jiang Qian’s suspected sugar daddy. Hearing this, they began to whisper among themselves, looking at Jiang Qian with strange expressions.
Li Zheng deliberately said with a smile, “Big Sister Jiang Qian, I saw you were on good terms with two CEOs that day. Are you getting a different luxury car every time?”
“I didn’t expect you to be into both men and women. That female CEO is like a tigress, so fierce, yet you can handle her. As expected, you’ve tasted the bitterness of the bitterest life, something we really can’t learn, huh!”
Li Zheng was in the middle of her excited rant when she suddenly saw Jiang Qian walking toward her.
Li Zheng crossed her arms and said, “What? Do you want to hit me?”
Then, she saw Jiang Qian walk straight past her without even a glance, waving to someone behind her.
Li Zheng looked back and was instantly terrified, shivering all over.
Shen Xiruo was standing in front of the Maserati, looking at Li Zheng with a cold gaze.
Li Zheng’s mind instantly went into a jumbled mess: “How did Shen Xiruo suddenly appear?”
“Doesn’t that mean she heard everything I just said?”
“The Shen family’s resources might be off-limits to me forever now!”
“God, why are you targeting me!”
Jiang Qian glanced at Li Zheng and then heard Shen Xiruo’s voice next to her ear: “Is she the one who’s bullying you?”
Jiang Qian felt an inexplicable sense of having a powerful backer. She said proudly, “No, not at all. How could she bully me? I’m awesome too!”
Shen Xiruo’s deep, profound eyes looked at Jiang Qian: “Hmm, you’re awesome.”
Jiang Qian: “What’s going on? Did I hear that wrong? That sounds a little off.”
“What kind of doting is this from a domineering female CEO?”
