The Seventh Princess Insists on Making Me Be a Kept Woman (GL) - Chapter 15
Chapter 15: Good at Nothing But Eating
Gao Jingxi glanced at Lian Liejin but didn’t say anything.
Lian Pingyou, however, was all smiles. “Her Highness is right, one shouldn’t refuse to eat for fear of choking”.
Even if Lian Liejin was slow, she sensed that Gao Jingxi seemed to be ignoring her. Unsure why, she wisely kept her mouth shut.
On the other side, Gao Jingxi was waiting for Lian Liejin to continue questioning her, but who knew the girl would start drinking soup first?
The Princess began to sulk.
Just then, A You had the fifteen plates of Osmanthus cake served.
Plate after plate of clear, translucent crystal Osmanthus cakes emitted a unique pastry fragrance. Lian Liejin sneaked a few glances at Gao Jingxi. The Princess had once again put on a cold face, radiating an “I am unapproachabl aura”.
Each celadon plate held two cakes. Lian Liejin poured her wine, ate a bite of cake with a sip of wine, and thoroughly enjoyed herself.
However, not long after, Lian Liejin quietly tugged at Gao Jingxi’s clothes. The Seventh Princess thought Lian Liejin had finally come to her senses and was ready to confess and come clean preemptively.
Instead, Lian Liejin’s eyes were teary, pastry crumbs clung to the corner of her mouth, and she coughed as she said, “Your Highness, I’m out of wine to wash down the Osmanthus cake.”
“Can’t you just eat them dry? You’re so good at eating, anyway.”
Lian Liejin, who was almost choked to death, thought the Princess’s mind was truly difficult to guess.
In the main hall, the scholars were eating and simultaneously discussing and speculating on the topic of this year’s Poetry Conference.
However, Chen Yu and Feng Zhi both looked awkward. They repeatedly entered and exited the banquet hall, their faces pale and sallow.
Lian Liejin, who had just managed to swallow the last bite of Osmanthus cake, smirked sinisterly. Everyone has natural needs, and today, those two should get a good taste of that feeling.
Still, the dose she gave them was not strong. And she strictly controlled the frequency—only three times—so they would still have the energy to compete.
Having to constantly run to and from the latrine, even with incense to mask the odor, the two inevitably carried a faint, unpleasant smell. This prompted those around them to cover their mouths and noses, displaying looks of disgust and making a few mocking remarks.
In all her life, Chen Yu had never endured such indignity. She was about to explode but was quickly restrained by Feng Zhi. “If you cause a scene, you’ll be disrupting the event hosted by the three Imperial Princes and Princesses!”
Hearing this, Chen Yu reluctantly backed down.
But the real show began at that moment. Lian Liejin spun her chopsticks between two fingers while looking at the First Prince not far away.
The man, usually so valiant and imposing, was constantly squirming in his seat, his posture extremely undignified. It was as if a thousand needles were poking him.
With a high-pitched shriek, Gao Hu jumped up from his seat, bolted toward the center of the banquet hall, and started flailing his limbs like a drunken monkey. He then threw himself onto the floor and began rolling around, scaring the line of dancing girls away like a flock of scattered birds.
Gao Qing yelled at the people around her, “Why aren’t you grabbing First Imperial Brother!”
Several people rushed over to try and subdue the First Prince, but he was acting like a maniac and possessed boundless strength. The people who tried to grab him were nearly choked to death.
“Summon the Imperial Physician.” Gao Jingxi stood up from the main seat and walked toward the center of the hall with composure.
A patch of red rash had appeared on the First Prince Gao Hu’s face, making him look particularly terrifying. His entire face was flushed red, accompanied by low roars. He had completely lost all demeanor befitting a prince.
In the end, it was Gao Qing who used a rod to knock him unconscious. “Imperial Physician, quickly examine First Imperial Brother. Someone, carry Imperial Brother back to his seat.”
She hated him fiercely in her heart. She had intended to rely on the First Prince and use him as her shield. Unexpectedly, he had become increasingly reckless and lawless recently, already the laughingstock of all Changyong. And now he dared to openly attack Lian Liejin. He truly had pig fat filling his brain.
It was already difficult to explain to the Emperor, and now causing a scene at the Poetry Conference was an aggravated offense.
This time, he must have been targeted by someone else in the dark. Gao Qing secretly watched Gao Jingxi and Lian Liejin at the main table, not missing any flicker of expression from the two.
In fact, Gao Jingxi was also observing Lian Liejin. After all, it wouldn’t be surprising if Gao Hu had fallen into her hands once before and fell into them again.
However, Lian Liejin maintained her usual composure. A cold, nonchalant smile hung in her slender, peach-blossom eyes.
Gao Jingxi considered carefully. Even if Lian Liejin had been behind it, given her medical skills, it should be impossible to detect any foul play.
In just a few breaths, numerous thoughts raced through Gao Jingxi’s mind. She maintained a calm expression and directed everyone back to their seats.
The Imperial Physician arrived quickly. As soon as he put down his medical box, he checked the First Prince’s pulse. “His Highness the First Prince is suffering from a pollen allergy. Perhaps there were too many types of flowers in the Youlan Water Pavilion, and His Highness was exposed to them when he went to change, leading to this reaction.”
Gao Qing pretended to be distraught, tears welling in her eyes, and asked, “Is there any danger? Imperial Physician, you must ensure that Imperial Brother is safe.”
“No danger. Once your humble servant prescribes two doses of medicine, His Highness the First Prince will be fine.”
And so, Gao Hu, who had walked in upright, now had to be carried out horizontally.
Soon, the farcical incident calmed down. Everyone resumed their state of eating and drinking.
Lian Liejin, having watched the show, quietly lowered her head to eat. She chewed slowly and deliberately for half an hour, eating until she was seven-tenths full.
When she looked up, she realized Gao Jingxi had been gone for a while. Looking further, Lian Pingyou’s seat was also empty.
Because Gao Jingxi was absent, everyone else relaxed significantly, whispering among themselves amidst the music and the singing of the dancers.
When the performance ended and the next group of dancing girls entered, Lian Liejin immediately noticed something different.
This group of dancing girls was all wearing large goose-yellow skirts and uniformly wielding long swords. However, there was a slight difference in skin color between their faces and their arms.
Logically, these women were professional dancers hired from the Imperial Music Bureau. Every part of them should have been rigorously vetted. Moreover, they practiced indoors at the Bureau. How could there be a discrepancy in skin color?
Unless…
Lian Liejin took a sip of wine and observed the crowd closely. Most people were still unaware of the impending danger, engrossed in the singing and dancing. However, a startling turn of events occurred at that very moment.
