The Sickly Girl Becomes a Scum Alpha - Chapter 10
After taking care of everything, Chu Ci returned to the Chu family mansion just as Jian Sui had finished setting the table. Having only had IV drips all day, Chu Ci felt an incredible warmth toward the food.
Jian Sui didn’t ask what Chu Ci had been doing; she simply placed a bowl and chopsticks in front of her.
Just as Chu Ci was about to pick up her chopsticks, her phone, lying next to her, chimed with a new message.
[Cao Xi: Are you free to go to Platinum tonight? Your stuff has arrived.]
Chu Ci gave a puzzled look. She was about to ask what “stuff” it was but then realized that the original host must have ordered it. Asking would give her away.
[Chu Ci: Okay.]
She replied, then casually placed her phone face down on the table. As she ate, she thought about her plans for the night. She would just get a hotel somewhere. Other than pretending to be asleep, she couldn’t think of any other excuse to avoid Jian Sui.
“I’m going to Platinum Club later. I won’t be back tonight.”
She still felt she should tell Jian Sui where she was going. Chu Ci thought for a moment. “You can also go back to your parents’ place so Zhao Zhu and the others don’t bother you.”
Jian Sui’s chopsticks paused mid-air. What was Chu Ci trying to say? Had she become so indifferent? What kind of newlywed tells their spouse they’re going to a club and that they should just go back home?
The food was now impossible to swallow. Jian Sui put down her chopsticks. Just when she thought Chu Ci was different from the rumors, she was giving her another big surprise. She went to a club on her wedding night, and on her “day of return” after the wedding, she was still busy with the club, despite her health. This is just great.
“Okay.”
No matter what, Jian Sui told herself she wasn’t the clingy type and agreed, her nails digging into her palm.
Jian Sui’s tone was so calm that Chu Ci, who was busy eating, didn’t notice anything was wrong.
After lunch, the company documents Chu Xiong had sent over arrived, and Chu Ci dove into the study.
In her previous life, Chu Ci was always in and out of the hospital or a sanatorium because of her poor health. She couldn’t attend school, but her studies never fell behind. With a one-on-one tutor, the results were even better than going to school.
Since her health prevented her from going out or even using most electronic devices, reading became her favorite pastime. She read a little of everything and didn’t have any specific preferences when she grew up. She chose finance because her parents were in business, but unfortunately, her health worsened, making it difficult for her to keep up.
Luckily, she had learned most of what she needed to know and was just missing the hands-on experience, which she could now get here.
She stretched her fingers and began to study the state of the Chu Corporation.
To become a top-tier wealthy family, the Chu family’s structure was extremely complex. It still operated as a family-run business, with Chu Xiong’s branch as the core. Other family members worked in the company or managed other business ventures, complementing one another to consolidate and strengthen their foundation for future glory.
Of course, this kind of cooperation, which was tied together by blood, was very stable, but it couldn’t stand up to personal greed. Having read the novel, Chu Ci knew how untrustworthy the Chu family members were. They were all determined to replace Chu Xiong, but his methods were strong enough to keep them in check, preventing them from showing their true intentions.
The reason they hadn’t given up was that Chu Xiong had few children. He only had one daughter, Chu Ci. There were even rumors that Chu You wasn’t his child. So the others were all doing their best to raise their own heirs, hoping to one day replace Chu Ci.
Such wolves in sheep’s clothing. Chu Ci also knew that later on, they would team up with Zhao Zhu to try and “accidentally” kill the original host and then have Chu Xiong adopt one of their children. Unfortunately for them, the original host was by then an experienced and ruthless person, so they stood no chance. In the end, the original host even consolidated all of the Chu family’s businesses, becoming the sole authority and kicking the others out completely. She then broke the company down into smaller pieces, running it with a more modern business model.
It had to be said that the original host’s decision was the right one and very farsighted. It would have been even better if she hadn’t done it just to get better at crime.
Chu Ci tapped her fingers on the desk. She knew she was just a transient in this world. Whether the plot mission succeeded or failed, and whether the system’s claims were true or false, she wouldn’t be staying here for long. But Jian Sui was different.
In the novel, Jian Sui died with the original host, who had later built a massive criminal syndicate. Since she was here now, she couldn’t let Jian Sui have that ending.
Considering the current situation, even if the “Chu Ci” who died with Jian Sui died early, as long as the Chu Corporation existed, Jian Sui’s life wouldn’t be easy.
So, either the Chu Corporation had to disappear, or Jian Sui had to become powerful.
Perhaps the two plans could be combined.
With that thought, Chu Ci felt she had a new purpose. She put the Chu Corporation documents aside for a moment and looked up information on Jian Sui’s company.
“A few… tens of millions?”
Rubbing her eyes, Chu Ci confirmed it again. She hadn’t misread it.
It wasn’t even as much as Chu Ci’s allowance.
This… is going to be incredibly difficult.
She would stick to studying the Chu Corporation for now.
Chu Ci stayed in the study until the evening, when Cao Xi’s constant messages finally made her leave. She didn’t see Jian Sui and assumed she had gone back to her parents’ house. She didn’t think much of it and got into Cao Xi’s car.
Cao Xi glanced at Chu Ci, who was casually dressed and wearing only a pair of glasses with no makeup on. “Didn’t you tell me you were pulling an all-nighter at Platinum? You look so plain. Are you going on a cleanse?”
“I’m also a Buddhist. Stop with the nonsense. By all-nighter, I meant I’m going to sleep all night at Platinum.”
Chu Ci folded her arms and thought to herself. If Jian Sui went back home, couldn’t I just go back and sleep there?
“Pfft, yeah right.”
Cao Xi’s face had a knowing look.
“Believe what you want.”
Chu Ci decided to get her stuff and go home to sleep. She didn’t want Cao Xi to cause any more trouble.
She wondered what the original host had ordered that was so mysterious.
When they arrived at Platinum Club, Cao Xi didn’t call anyone else. She led Chu Ci into a private room. There was no alcohol, only a large, pink box with a big ribbon on top.
Does the original host have a soft spot for girly things?
“You want me to open it for you?”
Cao Xi grinned mischievously, rubbing her hands together with a hint of excitement and perversion.
“You open it.”
Chu Ci had a bad feeling about this.
Cao Xi was more than happy to do it. She took a pair of scissors she had prepared and quickly tore off the outer packaging, revealing a leather case inside. She opened the combination lock and looked back at Chu Ci. “Want to do the final reveal?”
“You do it.”
Chu Ci refused. What if it was a prank, like a fake snake popping out of the box? It was safer to let Cao Xi do it.
“Okay, I’ll do it,” Cao Xi said, not pushing it. She was so excited that she even added sound effects. “Ta-da!”
The box opened, and the contents left Chu Ci with a million questions. The items were arranged on tiered shelves, and each slot held a strange, yet seemingly matching, set of things. At the bottom of the box was a large, fluffy object.
She reached out and poked one of the small, round, white pom-poms on a shelf, which was connected to a strangely shaped ball. “What is this?”
“Stop pretending! You personally ordered this and told me to get it for Jian Sui!”
Cao Xi looked at her as if she were crazy. “Is your memory that bad? Did you already forget?”
Ah, so it’s a gift for Jian Sui. Chu Ci cleared her throat. She had no idea what it was. “I just didn’t remember for a second. Okay, I’m going to take this and head back now.”
“No all-nighter?” Cao Xi had expected this. She closed the box. “Didn’t Jian Sui go back to her parents’ place?”
“I can give it to her tomorrow. Tomorrow is Saturday.”
Chu Ci stood up, ready to leave.
“Oh, you’re giving it to her tomorrow? Then I guess you can’t stay out all night. Fine, I’ll have someone drive you.”
Cao Xi had that mischievous look on her face again, which made Chu Ci wonder if she was having a facial spasm. But she didn’t pay it any mind.
