The Sickly Girl Becomes a Scum Alpha - Chapter 11
When Chu Ci got back to the Chu family mansion, Jian Sui wasn’t there. She had a servant bring the gift into the bedroom and looked it over. Cao Xi had completely ruined the original bow packaging. Would it look too perfunctory to send it like this?
After a moment of thought, Chu Ci tore off a sticky note and put it on the box.
[For Jian Sui]
It still felt like something was missing. She opened the box and saw a large bow inside. It was massive, though the ribbons were a bit of a mess. Chu Ci didn’t worry about it; she just draped it on the box, and it immediately looked much more presentable.
She dusted her hands, feeling satisfied, and went to sleep.
While Chu Ci was in the study, Jian Sui chose to go home for the Day of Return alone. She parked her car in front of the detached villa, her hands gripping the steering wheel until her knuckles turned white. If she had a choice, she never would have come back to this house.
A corpulent woman walked out of the villa, and when she saw Jian Sui’s car, her eyes, which were usually squeezed into slits by fat, widened.
Since she had been seen, Jian Sui grabbed the things she’d bought from the passenger seat and got out of the car.
The woman craned her neck to look behind Jian Sui. “Miss Chu? Did you come back alone?”
“She didn’t have time.”
Jian Sui put the gifts down and turned to leave.
“You stop right there!”
The woman quickly stepped forward and grabbed Jian Sui’s arm, poking her shoulder with a finger. “Did you make Miss Chu angry? Didn’t you serve her well? Let me tell you, it’s a blessing you accumulated over eight lifetimes that Miss Chu even looked at you!”
Always the same routine!
Jian Sui frowned and forcefully pulled her arm back. “I don’t need you to tell me what to do.”
Just then, a skinny man who had heard the commotion walked out of the villa. He nestled up to the stout woman, pointing a limp wrist at Jian Sui. “What did you say? Is that how you talk to your mother? I think you’ve gotten too full of yourself. Do you really think marrying into the Chu family makes you a phoenix flying up a branch? Miss Chu is so good to you, helping your company and buying us villas and luxury cars. You good-for-nothing girl, what did you buy us?”
“She only buys worthless trash! We shouldn’t have picked her up! We should have left her on the side of the road to freeze to death! To starve! To be eaten by stray dogs!” The woman’s expression was vicious, and her words were mean and spiteful. “I’m telling you, if you come back, you better bring back something valuable! Otherwise, stay at the Chu family’s and serve Miss Chu properly! Maybe she’ll be happy enough to buy us a house! This is the first time I’ve ever lived in such a nice house! Did you hear me?!”
Jian Sui clenched the car keys in her hand, the sharp edges cutting into her skin. She walked out quickly and sped away amidst their shouts and curses.
These were Jian Sui’s adoptive parents, two Betas. They had picked her up from the side of the road and raised her as though they were feeding a stray dog, giving her only scraps of food. Jian Sui had to work part-time jobs to earn the money for middle school and university herself; they didn’t want to spend a single extra cent on her.
Despite this, they demanded that Jian Sui provide for them, requiring her to send them two thousand yuan every month when she was in university. Even working two jobs, Jian Sui had to live on steamed buns. She finally managed to get startup funds from her university with Zhao Rong, started a business in secret, and was slowly gaining momentum. But they discovered it recently.
They became greedy, wanting to squeeze every last drop of blood from Jian Sui. If she didn’t give them money, they would show up at her company and cause a scene, tearing it apart.
She barely managed to keep it going with financial help from Zhao Rong’s family, but recently, she couldn’t hold out any longer and was cornered by her competitors.
She had even considered declaring bankruptcy, but she couldn’t betray Zhao Rong, who had invested so much. Gritting her teeth, she accepted Chu Ci’s pursuit.
But Chu Ci was exactly as everyone said: she lost interest once she got what she wanted. She picked a random, nearby “lucky day” and married her into the Chu family.
If it weren’t for the Omega Protection Act, Chu Ci’s goal would probably have been just to possess her, not to actually marry her.
However, the Chu Ci she knew after the wedding was even harder to understand.
She didn’t touch her, yet she protected her. But she also didn’t treat her like a wife; it was as if she were a… guest staying at her place.
That was the exact feeling.
With that sudden realization, Jian Sui felt a growing sense of unease. If that was the case, it made sense: she only saw her as a guest, not a wife.
That’s why she was politely and frankly informing her of her plans to go to the club and stay out all night, and why she didn’t forget to remind her to avoid Zhao Zhu’s bullying.
But why?
Jian Sui was completely baffled. She needed an outsider to analyze Chu Ci’s mind, so she called Zhao Rong to meet up for a drink.
Sitting in the quiet bar, Zhao Rong looked at the frowning Jian Sui, who was equally puzzled. “Isn’t this a great thing? You don’t get harassed, you can leverage the Chu family’s power, and you don’t have to fulfill any marital duties. My god, that’s a windfall!”
After hearing Jian Sui’s description, Zhao Rong suddenly wondered if the formerly hateful Chu Ci was actually an angel sent from heaven. She was solving her problems for free and giving her money without asking for anything in return. Even an angel wouldn’t be that kind.
Jian Sui didn’t agree. “Be serious. It’s not logical. What does Chu Ci get out of it?”
“Hmm…”
Zhao Rong also fell into thought. “A nominal wife?”
“…”
She didn’t even believe it herself, but there was genuinely nothing else. Was she after Jian Sui’s pittance of a company that wasn’t even worth her allowance? Was she after having a beautiful woman nearby to look at but not touch, thus extending her life?
They looked at each other, speechless. They clinked glasses and started drinking.
While drinking, Jian Sui recalled what had happened when she returned home and couldn’t help but tell Zhao Rong about it. Zhao Rong knew how difficult Jian Sui’s life had been and racked her brain to try and comfort her, but in the end, she could only silently drink with Jian Sui, glass after glass.
“Tell me, is there a possibility…” After a few drinks, Zhao Rong was clearly tipsy. She slurred as she looked at Jian Sui. “That Chu Ci is impotent?!”
Jian Sui: “!!!”
The shock almost sobered her up. The glass in her hand shook, spilling a few drops. Jian Sui figured Zhao Rong was truly drunk.
She called a designated driver and went through the trouble of taking Zhao Rong home. When the driver asked for the next destination, Jian Sui rubbed her temples, which were throbbing from the alcohol. She thought of Chu Ci still at the Platinum Club, smiled self-mockingly, and gave the address of the Chu family mansion.
So what if I’m sleeping alone? That big bed is comfortable enough for just one person.
With that thought, the car pulled up to the Chu family’s gates. Jian Sui paid the fare and watched the driver leave. Immediately, a Chu family servant came over to park the car.
She staggered into the house. At this hour, Chu Xiong and Zhao Zhu were long asleep. The entire Chu house was quiet, with no sound at all.
She unconsciously softened her footsteps as she went upstairs to the room. When she saw the dark bedroom, she wasn’t surprised. Since Chu Ci had said she wasn’t coming back, she certainly wouldn’t be.
She didn’t turn on the light. Under the influence of alcohol, Jian Sui used the last of her self-control to close the door, quickly took off her clothes, and threw herself onto the soft, large bed.
A muffled groan sounded. Jian Sui’s sluggish brain struggled to process the information. Could a bed groan?
She chuckled at the thought, shifting her body to fully press against and firmly pin down the “bed.”
Chu Ci, who had been suddenly crushed in her sleep, was immediately enveloped by Jian Sui’s fruity wine scent. It wasn’t unpleasant, carrying a distinct fruit aroma.
