The Sickly Girl Becomes a Scum Alpha - Chapter 15
Chu Ci led Cao Xi upstairs. Glancing around, she spotted Jian Sui sitting in the corner. Thinking about the gift she had sent earlier, she subtly hid behind Cao Xi when Jian Sui’s eyes glanced their way.
“Be generous. If we aren’t embarrassed, the embarrassment belongs to everyone else,” Cao Xi nudged Chu Ci with her elbow, pulling her along with her head held high.
“Miss Jian, we meet again.”
Cao Xi raised her hand in a greeting, then practically shoved Chu Ci into the seat next to Jian Sui. She then sat next to Zhao Rong, extending her hand as if in surprise. “And this must be Miss Zhao? It’s better to meet a person than just hear about them. What a pleasure, my name is Cao Xi.”
Zhao Rong shot a glance at Cao Xi, moved slightly away, and politely reached out to barely touch Cao Xi’s fingertips before quickly pulling her hand back. “Miss Cao, I believe this isn’t our first meeting.”
“Oh? Is that so? What a great coincidence, though I regret we didn’t get a chance to exchange contact information last time…” Cao Xi clearly didn’t remember when they had met, but she didn’t mind Zhao Rong’s coldness and immediately tried to charm her.
“I was there when you brought people to blockade Jian Sui’s company.”
Cao Xi: “…”
Jian Sui & Chu Ci: “…”
Chu Ci had a general idea of the situation. In the novel, after the original host met Jian Sui once, she bragged to her friends that she would definitely win over this unreachable beauty. And the way those second-generation heirs pursued someone was always the same: as loud and public as possible, completely disregarding the feelings of the person they were chasing.
Once Chu Ci made that statement, her group of friends, led by Cao Xi, immediately jumped into action. They drove a fleet of sports cars to Jian Sui’s company, blocking the entrance and preventing people from leaving. The whole stunt was so sensational it made the social news the very next day.
Bringing up such an embarrassing incident now made even the thick-skinned Cao Xi cough a couple of times.
Jian Sui glanced at Chu Ci and spoke up to smooth things over. “Why don’t we order some drinks first?”
Zhao Rong pushed up her glasses, shot a look of disappointment at Jian Sui for being so soft, then looked at Chu Ci, who was sitting quietly and motionlessly. She was rather surprised.
The Chu Ci she knew would have put her feet up on the table by now. Aggressive and self-centered were always Chu Ci’s labels. How could she be so quiet?
Just as she was thinking this, she heard Jian Sui’s soft, gentle voice, as if afraid of startling Chu Ci. “What would you like to drink?”
Zhao Rong: ??? Is Chu Ci a three-year-old baby? Why the careful questioning?
Chu Ci kept her head down, missing Zhao Rong’s look. She was so embarrassed she didn’t know where to put her hands. “Anything is fine.”
“Then I’ll get you some hot milk?”
Jian Sui remembered that Chu Ci’s health wasn’t great and that she should avoid coffee.
Chu Ci nodded. This time, it wasn’t just Zhao Rong; even Cao Xi looked like she’d seen a ghost.
When their drinks arrived, Zhao Rong and Cao Xi were both holding cups of bitter coffee, watching Chu Ci quietly sip her hot milk, which even had sugar added to it. She was being incredibly docile.
“Am I seeing things?” Zhao Rong hesitantly took off her glasses and wiped them.
“I’m blind,” Cao Xi mumbled. She was truly stunned, having never expected to see this side of Chu Ci in her life.
Jian Sui, who had been quietly watching Chu Ci, gave the two a cold glance when she heard their whispers. They immediately fell silent.
Chu Ci had heard them, too. She pursed her lips, put down the milk, and looked at Cao Xi, slightly raising an eyebrow. What did I tell you to do?
Cao Xi instantly received the signal, remembering her mission. She turned to Zhao Rong.
“Miss Zhao, I’ve been studying palmistry these past two days. I don’t know how accurate I am, but would you let me have a look?”
Regaining her composure, Cao Xi leaned back slightly on the sofa and brought out her time-tested trick.
Zhao Rong didn’t want to give her the time of day, but she didn’t want to make a scene either. She extended her hand, thinking, Fine, let her look. I bet the first thing she says is that I’m prone to romance. I’ve seen through these cheap tricks before.
However, Cao Xi clearly wasn’t going to follow the script.
Without trying to take advantage, Cao Xi cupped Zhao Rong’s fingers with the back of her hand and looked at her palm with a genuinely serious expression. “Miss Zhao comes from a privileged, harmonious family, and her career has been smooth. The first half of your life has been easy. But recently, a change is coming. There is a shift in affection within your family.”
Zhao Rong, who had been dismissive, changed her expression drastically when she heard the last sentence. “What does that mean?”
“Miss Zhao’s parents…”
This time, when Cao Xi spoke, Zhao Rong listened intently. The two went back and forth, completely forgetting the couple across from them.
But Chu Ci and Jian Sui weren’t paying much attention to them either.
Chu Ci tapped her finger lightly on her milk cup, carefully glancing at Jian Sui. Jian Sui was quietly drinking her coffee and didn’t look angry at all.
Chu Ci tentatively leaned closer to Jian Sui. She hesitated, but she couldn’t hold it in any longer. She whispered, “Are you very angry?”
“Huh?” Jian Sui looked at Chu Ci, confused.
Chu Ci tensed up, immediately sitting upright, her fingers gripping the cup until they were white. “I’m sorry. I made a mistake with that gift.”
Jian Sui frowned when she heard this. “It wasn’t meant for me?”
Then who was it for?!
Jian Sui felt a surge of anger now and asked, suppressing her frustration.
“No, no,” Chu Ci quickly shook her head. “It’s for you… no, it shouldn’t have been sent now. That’s not right either…”
Chu Ci felt like everything she said was wrong. She lowered her head in defeat. “I just thought it was too forward. I didn’t mean to imply anything.”
Jian Sui discreetly let out a sigh of relief. Her anger vanished as quickly as it had come, and she felt a belated warmth creeping onto her face.
“It’s fine.”
Chu Ci’s ears twitched. Did she forgive me?
Finally daring to look Jian Sui in the eye, Chu Ci reaffirmed the novel’s description of Jian Sui as kind, gentle, tolerant, and resilient. To forgive that? She must be an angel.
“That’s bullshit!”
Just as Chu Ci and Jian Sui were having their “deeply meaningful stare,” Zhao Rong slapped the table, making all four cups jump.
Chu Ci flinched and quickly looked over. Zhao Rong was furious, and Cao Xi looked stubborn.
“Miss Zhao, why are you getting angry at me? This is your own palm reading. It clearly says that your father is having an affair, that you will meet a bad match at a club this year, and that this emotional crisis will change the fate of your entire family, it will…”
“Shut up!”
Zhao Rong stood up. Her heart was pounding because Cao Xi had hit on a secret, and she could only use her loud voice to cover her anxiety.
Jian Sui also frowned. “Miss Cao…”
“I’m not finished,” Cao Xi cut Jian Sui off. “Although Miss Zhao is facing a major change in her fate this year, she is destined to have a noble person help her. As long as she finds this person and gets through this ordeal, she will have a smooth path to success, followed by prosperity and longevity.”
Zhao Rong sat back down, half-believing her.
Chu Ci looked at Cao Xi. This woman truly had some tricks up her sleeve. No wonder she had been so successful in her dating life without ever crashing and burning. With just a few words, she had completely hooked Zhao Rong.
Chu Ci shot Cao Xi a warning look, telling her to stop while she was ahead.
Cao Xi saw that things were safe between Jian Sui and Chu Ci. She cleared her throat and quickly changed the subject. “I hear a new mall just opened nearby. How about we go for a walk?”
